Rate this book

The perfect summer read. Continuing the light hearted, uplifting dramas around the The Dog & Duck pub and the life of its landlady Ellie Browne.

Ellie Browne has found happiness running The Dog & Duck pub in the idyllic village of Little Leyton, and her blossoming romance with tall, handsome property developer, Max Golding, is going swimmingly. With her new best friend, Digby, the black Labrador at her side, life just couldn't be sweeter.

But their peace is shattered when Max's younger sister, Katy, turns up unannounced with a whole heap of attitude. And Max's loyalties are stretched further when his glamorous ex, Sasha, re-appears with her own burgeoning secret.

With the master of the manor preoccupied with the demands of his 'other women', Ellie's forced to consider if she has any role to play in Max's life or in the village of Little Leyton.

Can Ellie get her life and relationship back on track in time for the summer charity ball at Braithwaite Manor?

4☆ Feel good, full of charm

This is the second book in the series.
I wasn't fortunate enough to have read the first book in the series, however this one most definitely can be read as a standalone.

I absolutely adore country pubs so when I came across this book I was very excited and it didn't disappoint.
The cover is simply beautiful, it captures the essence of the Dog and Duck perfectly!

The Dog and Duck is a charming pub that oozes character and charm. It really Is the social hub of the community. Many a gossip to be had within the pub.

Ellie and Max have had their fair share of ups and down, so when Max' s Ex shows up with a shocking confession. Ellie and Max's world is about to be turned upside Down.
Are they both strong enough to overcome this new hurdle.

Max is pushed to he's limits when he's sister turns up as well, bringing a whole lot of family drama and plenty of Sass.
I felt sorry for Max as he now has 3 women to try and please and do right by them all. But someone is undoubtedly going to get hurt.... I just hope he can hold it together for Ellie.

Ellie is so lovely and caring. She is a hard worker and always has time to listen. The perfect landlady. If only she made more time for herself.
I just hope she can stay strong enough to recover from Max' s Ex!

Summer at the Dog and Duck is everything you expect it to be. A fun, feel good , laugh out loud moments, shocking confessions, gossip and not to mention the adorable Digby the Lab. A pub just doesn't feel complete without a loveable dog!

I do wish I had read the first book as I would of liked to of got to know Ellie and Max more. They are a genuinely nice couple that has it's ups and downs just like any couple does.

This is the perfect summer read, I can just see myself sitting in a beer garden in the country sunshine reading this charming book.

I Most definitely recommend reading this delightful book.
Be warned it may just have you wanting to visit your local.

The perfect chick lit book, summer reads, Rom com, lovers of charming pubs.

I received this book from the Publisher in exchange for a honest and fair review via Netgalley.

I received an advanced copy from the Publisher via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

If you read the cover blurb of "Summer at the Dog and Duck", it promises a feel-good story with happy ending, meeting nice characters in a close-knit community, lovely English countryside, who-will-end-up-with-whom intrigues (without great surprises) and warm-fuzzy vibes all around.

I am happy to say that the author, Jill Steeples, delivers on all the promises: satisfaction guaranteed while reading and on finishing the book. It is an easy and entertaining read, perfect for summer holidays.

Ellie and Max are an affectionate, sympathetic couple, so you find it easy to root for them and to hope they can sort out all the obstacles coming their way. I also like the fact that they are not afraid to stand up to each other and tell the other if they have a problem (with some necessary hide & seek involved).

Ellie is a lovely character through and through: she stands by her friends & does not neglect them just because she is in a relationship; she supports Max over the troubles with his sister yet isn't afraid to take her side when she feels that's the right way to go.
It is also a welcome element that Ellie gives Max the benefit of the doubt & tries not to jump to conclusions when a situation arises that screams * obvious SETUP, but you have to fall for it & break up with boyfriend!!!*.

This was a fun, relaxing read and I will also read Book#1, Winter at the Dog & Duck to learn how Ellie & Max became a couple.

Ellie Browne swaps the hustle and bustle of London for a quiet village life in Little Leyton. But will she be able to fill the shoes of popular pub landlord Eric, her predecessor and best friend’s dad, especially with new boyfriend Max on the scene? Throw in the sudden arrival of Max’s teenage sister and his ex-girlfriend, and things really start heating up at the Dog and Duck.

I thought this was a gorgeous, heart-warming read with a real sense of community spirit. I loved the atmospheric setting (I want to go to Little Leyton!) and couldn’t wait to step into Ellie Browne’s world every night.

Jill Steeples’ natural and easy style draws you in and swallows you whole. I found the cast of characters charming, fleshy, and believable, and I absolutely adored Digby the Labrador!

I am a bit partial to stories that are full of surprises, sticky moments and humour, and this book ticked all the boxes. Last orders at the Dog and Duck? I don’t think so! Can’t wait for the next instalment.

My Rating:

4.5

Favorite Quotes:

It’s that feeling of being left behind. As if life is something that’s happening to everyone else, while I’m still waiting to even get on the bus.

He’s a bit full-on, isn’t he? He has this sort of wild energy that fills all the air in a room, and then when he leaves, it’s like you can breathe again.

‘I’m on my way,’ he said, sounding so much like a proper all-round superhero that I half expected him to fly in through the window in his cape and knickers, although that was probably just wishful thinking on my part.

For once he drove slowly and carefully. Usually he went at breakneck speed, throwing the Jeep around the bends in the lane like he was a rally driver while I hung onto the edges of the seat for grim death, but this time he was clearly mindful of Sasha and her special cargo.

My Review:

Summer at the Dog and Duck was a light, charming, and sweet British rom-com. I am new to the author and had not read the first book in the series although I did not need to as the book had strong legs and able to stand alone, although I enjoyed the writing and tale so much I would like to go back to read the origins of their story. The storyline was packed with amusing humor, colorful details, and insightful observations as well as a plethora of busy small village inhabitants and happenings. It held my attention and alternated between squeezing my heart and creasing my face with a smile. And I am happy to add a new word to my Brit vocab list that intrigued me and required Googling - “misog,” which for the uninformed like myself, was reported by Urban Dictionary to be an abbreviation for miserable old git and can be used to insult either sex. I do love learning new words, especially those of the more colorful variety.

This was the second book in the series and loved it so much didn't think it could improve from the first but it sure did. Full of romance and families and feel good factor I don't want to put the book down as just wanted to find out what happened next.
Ellie works at the village pub that max her boyfriend owns and she's helping to organise the summer fate the village hold. The problem comes when max says his ex has been in contact and he's helping her to get a house and Ellie is really worried he's getting back with her and going to dump her. Then he says he can't meet her as planned and she's worried he's going out with Sasha but in fact she feels guilty when she learns he's gone to get the sister from the airport as she's coming to stay with max. Katy the sister arrives and having a teenager around is not easy and Ellie tries to keep them both happy but can she do this and can her relationship with max continue or is she worried he's going to end. He in fact is inviting her to move in with him but she is very unsure. Ellie starts to feel a bit under the weather and passes out and then she realises she could be pregnant and how does their relationship hold up to this.
Great read with more than five stars.

When its raining and bleak outside this is definitely the type of book that you need. It absolutely brings you a bit of sunshine by the way the author brings you into the story , I could happily curl up in the armchair of the dog and duck next to the fire! Perfectly described that you can picture it as you read and you do want to be there.

The characters of Katy , Ellie and Max are incredible to read about , you really feel like you know them , there was definitely moments with Katy that I just wanted to hug her! And incredible story with many different emotions that runs throughout the book. I can't wait to get onto the next one!

Ellie is in her element at the Dog & Duck, her own village pub in Little Leyton. She's still together with the rich and handsome Max and finally everything is falling into place. Then Max's teenage sister Katy comes to stay with him. Katy's attitude makes it difficult for Max to get closer to her and find out why she's there. Maybe Ellie can help them out? Max is also spending time with his ex-girlfriend Sasha, a former city girl who wants to live in Little Leyton all of a sudden and Ellie isn't seeing much of him anymore. Max is slipping through her fingers and Ellie feels her relationship is under threat. Will they be able to patch things up or will it be a lonely summer for Ellie?

Summer at the Dog & Duck is a wonderful heartwarming story. Ellie is matter-of-fact in a crisis and is able to solve a lot of problems this way. She's also capable, kind and helpful. I loved her sweet and open character. She's there for anyone who needs to talk and if something has to be organized she always get things done, she gladly gives her time to the village fête and charity events. She makes the guests of the pub feel welcome, but she can stand up for herself as well. I admired her strong personality and think it makes her a fantastic main character.

Max has a lot on his mind and he doesn't always tell Ellie what's keeping him busy, so it's easy for misunderstandings to arise. Max is handsome, he has a good heart and he's a real gentleman. I liked that very much about him. He doesn't know how to handle Katy, they aren't close because Katy used to live in Spain and it's clear she is angry about something. I was really curious to find out what it was and it was lovely to learn more about Max's family and his background. I like books about siblings and Max and Katy have an interesting relationship. I enjoyed reading about each phase they're going through.

Jill Steeples has a great warm writing style. Her descriptions of Little Leyton and the Dog & Duck are vivid and dynamic. I could easily picture the beautiful countryside, the cozy pub and the stately manor. I enjoyed finding out more about each of these settings. I loved reading about Ellie's walks too, because of her fabulous dog and the gorgeous surroundings. Jill Steeples makes her story come to life incredibly well. I absolutely loved this second book about the Dog & Duck and the story put a big smile on my face. It's entertaining, charming and enchanting.

Warm, feel-good and inviting – loved it!

If only I could just pop down to the Dog & Duck to hang out with Ellie, Max and the regulars. Such a wonderfully cosy cast of characters and personalities to surround the wonderful love story at the heart of this tale. You can really feel Ellie’s angst as she tries to be there for the people she loves and cares about. As for Max, well, think Mr Darcy … the perfect read to curl up with and escape. So glad to see there are more in this series!

The perfect summer beach read that is sure to leave you smiling, happy and ready to head to England for your own slice of village life. Jill Steeples should be writing tourism brochures for village councils in need of new blood – every moment of this book was steeped in atmosphere. Ellie decided to move back to her hometown after a successful but unfulfilled life in London, the early exposure to a village where everyone knows your name, your history and your business is a transition not easily left behind. When her best friend’s father decided he wanted to give up landlording the town’s pub for travel, Ellie stepped in and has taken over: small changes that mark the Dog & Duck as a community gathering point. News, information, meetings, romances and even a few tiffs occur regularly, and the presence of Digby the Labrador makes for a homey atmosphere.

But, pulled twelve ways from Tuesday, it seems as if Ellie is never wanting to say ‘no’ to anyone, from welcoming her parent’s tenant, to spending time with her best friends and carving out time with her new-ish boyfriend Max, there’s rarely time for Ellie to just move forward without worrying about something. And when you add Max’s teenaged sister Katy to the mix, complete with stroppy behavior, attitude and a bone-deep sadness that he doesn’t seem to know how to handle, one more person has been added to Ellie’s to sort out list. With plans for the summer fete, concerns about her own management style for the pub with surprise inspectors prone to dropping in, her own insecurities about her relationship, the limited time they spend together and now Max’s pregnant ex-girlfriend turning up to rent one of his cottages, the constant barrage of elements continues. And yet, with good grace, only a few minor meltdowns and the communication breakdowns between Max and Ellie occurring with regularity, while I could see the possible ending coming, the actual pathway was as twisty as a maze.

But, despite the back and forth and Ellie’s occasional moments of insecurity and second guessing, the characters were real, present, flawed and likable. Secondary characters, including dogs, pensioner regulars, and the seemingly endless well of good humor that Ellie draws from to keep herself balanced, it was hard to put this story down. With a super surprise at the end that was only a surprise to Ellie (I figured it out quite early) and a wonderful sense of family, friends and community – this is a story that will make you contemplate your own relocation to a small community if only to get those welcomes. A favorite for the writing and the feel-good endorphins that have run wild for the hours since I finished the last page, I’m curious to see what the next season at the Dog & Duck will bring.

I received an eArc copy of the title from the publisher via NetGalley for purpose of honest review. I was not compensated for this review: all conclusions are my own responsibility.

This was a sweet story but it left me somewhat wanting.

I enjoyed the characters, although having reading book 2 before book 1 I do feel that this may have affected my enjoyment of the story somewhat, especially the character development. I just wanted a summer read to force away those pesky winter blues.

From the start, I didn't really connect with the characters and this was made worse when Max and Ellie had a spat over Max's sister. Max's words were beyond cruel and afterwards, there seemed to be little or no remorse, irrespective of whether Ellie's actions had been right or wrong. I can't believe they just picked their relationship back up without so much as an apology. That said, Max and Ellie are an intriguing couple but from the outset, I was left wondering if Ellie was destined to end up with Max as they felt more like an estranged couple and not in the first bloom of romance.

I did enjoy the developing bond between Ellie and Max's sister though. It was sweet and heartfelt and at a time when Katy really needed someone fighting her corner.

The side characters were also enjoyable but I would have liked more of them as well to give the storyline yet more depth.

The setting was perfect though and the author provides readers with enough substance for them to fully ingratiate themselves into village life. The focal point being, as expected, the Dog & Duck pub.

I'd quite like to read book 1 now but I fear my opinion of Max and Ellie may be a little jaded but you never know, I may be able to see them in a different and altogether more beneficial light.

What a great second book by Jill Steeples! I did really enjoy it, and it made me wish I was landlady of a pub in the country! I read the first book sometime around the end of last year and I did enjoy it, but I must say that I think I enjoyed this book more.

This book delivered a heart-warming and delightful story with good humour and lovely characters and relationships and got me excited for summer! The storyline was interesting from start to finish and even though it took me quite a while to read it, I still thought it was delightful and had a lovely happy ending.

Without giving too much away, drama arises when Ellie's boyfriend Max's ex-girlfriend Sasha (that was a long one!) arrives in the village with an unexpected surprise! Will Ellie and Max be able to get through this bump in their relationship? Or will they go their separate ways?

Overall, a fabulous book with a great story that I really loved. It's lighthearted and just what I look for in a chick lit book. If you wasn't sure on whether to pick this one up when it's released, let me tell you that you should!

Thank you to Netgalley and Aria for a chance to read this book in return of a honest review.

I read the first book in this series and really enjoyed it. Three stars because I generally enjoyed everything about this story except the main romance: running a village pub and the characters and community that surrounds Ellie.
But it turns out in book #2 that Max Golding is clingy and possessive. I think Ellie could do better; is it only because he's rich and the village pickings are slim that she sticks with this guy?

Spoiler: and she definitely shouldn't be having this guy's baby after 6 months of dating.

Summer at the Dog & Duck is a perfect read for the summery months when you want to zoom through a book pretty quickly, but still be utterly absorbed by charming characters and settings.

I loved Winter at the Dog&Duck - the first installment in this series, and our first introduction to Ellie, Max and the residents of Little Leyton. Summer follows on from a lot of things that happened at the end of Winter, and we see how Ellie is getting on. I loved Ellie's character development in the Winter and this is continued in Summer as she really comes into her own as The Dog&Duck landlady. It's great seeing her taking charge, and sometimes even giving the older male customers a telling off when they need it.

I wasn't as mad on the romance between Ellie and Max in this one, maybe because for a while things seemed a bit stagnant between them and a lot of what Max was doing was really annoying me. I loved that Ellie bonded with Max's sister though, and there were some really nice scenes.

I definitely saw the reveal near the end happening pretty early on. You read enough books and it's easy to pick up on the tell-tale signs but I still enjoyed the events leading up to the twist.

Summer is just as charming, quirky and enjoyable as Winter and I definitely recommend it for any time of the year. I just hope this isn't the last we see of Little Leyton.

If you're not aware of this already, 'Summer at the Dog & Duck' is the second book in the 'Dog & Duck' series. Ideally it would be better reading this one AFTER you have read the first book, just so that you don't end up confused as the second book picks up where the last story ended, so to speak. Also, I think that if you read the Summer book beforehand, you may end up giving yourself spoilers for the first book before you have even read it. But that's just my opinion, obviously!

We are back in Little Leyton and the infamous, The Dog & Duck, with new landlady, Ellie Browne. Poor ol' Ellie is feeling a little insecure, wondering if she is good enough to run the pub, would the punters accept a woman as their landlady instead of a man, and so forth. But, seeing as her boyfriend's ex is wanting to return to the village, I think Ellie's concerns over her landlady status could be the least of her worries, don't you?

I LOVED being back in Little Leyton! I was sad when the previous book ended, so I was so excited to return and catch up with the familiar characters I had grown to love. Last season at The Dog and Duck, we saw things getting ready to change, friendly faces deciding their next moves, and relationships starting to blossom. It was strange to come back this season and not have those characters where they were before, however, Ellie has done a magnificent job. I thought that Ellie was a little more introvert than before, she seemed to have mislaid her fiery nature and confidence where certain things were concerned. On one hand it was great to see a different side to her character, yet on the other side I missed those traits.

For me, Jill Steeples' new novel was such a quick read, as soon as I started reading it, I just couldn't put it down! The authors fabulous humour makes itself known throughout the entire storyline, I think I snlaughed (snorted & laughed at the same time) on more than one occasion. Fantastic.

As for the storyline itself, it wasn't a hard-hitting, overly intense, brain ache of a storyline. No. It was more of a light-hearted, fun-filled, spot on intensity levels, type of cosy read. I thought the careful added situation of Max's sister, Katy, was written brilliantly, and no doubt a lot of parents with teenagers will resonate! I'm not a mum to a teenager, but I remember being one! As far as I can remember, my attitude wasn't THAT bad, but then again we all say that haha. The only part of the book to irk me a tad, was how Max was reacting to Katy's actions. Don't get me wrong, I could see why he was becoming rather aggravated, BUT, I thought that he crossed the line once of twice. Obviously folk handle situations in different ways, but I could actually see the situation from Katy's point of view, and not just because I was able to read both sides ha.

Time to be severely vague; at one particular point in the storyline I became rather emotional. I didn't think that I would find myself crying at that part, but I did and it was beautiful. Now, the only way you're going to find out what part that was and why it made me cry, is by going and buying the book!

Summer at the Dog & Duck, for me, is my favourite book of the two so far. I absolutely adored the heart-felt emotion. The community spirit. The heart warming friendships and relationships. The sense of belonging and fitting in. Knowing that your extended family is around every single corner, in every shop; everywhere in Little Leyton. This book blew me away, it filled my heart with so much comfort, warmth and love, I was extremely sad to reach the end.

Personally, this novel showcases Jill Steeples' incredible talent of story telling as from the start of the book until the very end, Jill Steeples manages to make the reader believe in themselves and learn to trust their heart.
Outstanding.

Thank you Aria Fiction

I am not normally a fan of books written in first person however I found this a thoroughly enjoyable read.
Ellie runs the dog and duck pub in Little Leyton, a little countryside pub in a village full of community. She is dating a very wealthy property developer called max however she is happy with her simple ways, living above the pub with her dog digby whom she has adopted.
Max’s sister has come to stay after falling out with her mum and step dad in Spain and Ellie has to try really hard to befriend Katy. But it doesn’t take long and Max’s relationship with Katy and Ellie grow closer and closer.
When Sasha Max’s ex turns up to live in little Leyton pregnant suspicions arise which cause Ellie to doubt her relationship with max.

A lot of twists and turns arise in this book however it is so heart warming with a very happy ending. A very stereo typical feel good story which left me smiling at the end. There were a couple of times I wish the author had expanded on what happened at the end with max and Ellie having to tell their parents some very important news however there wasn’t a single time I felt bored with this story line which is why I believe it deserves 5 stars.

If you are looking for a summer time, feel good easy read then this is the book for you!

Ellie is now landlady at the Dog and Duck and trying to fit her busy life around Max's equally busy schedule so that they can get to see each other, things are always coming up to get in the way though.

She has also taken on Digby the black lab so has to find time to walk him every day but she has great friends around and brilliant staff. To make matters worse Max's younger sister Kate is sent over from Spain to stay as she has been getting into trouble over there and not getting on at all with her stepfather.....and Max has absolutely no idea how to manage a stroppy teenager!

Ellie soon starts to win Kate round but then Max's very glamorous ex, Sasha appears in the village and has decided to stay and is renting a house from Max.....Ellie definitely needs to get the bottom of that one!

Great to be back with all of the old characters and following up on the story of Ellie and Max....a lovely warm hearted book showing typical village life and exactly the sort of place I would like to live!

This is the second book in this series and although I didn't read the first, although I would have liked to I don't think it really mattered as I think it was a well written book that doesn't really require too much prior knowledge of the characters.
The characters are definately what makes this book, this is the first book I have read that doesn't have any unlikeable characters in it. Ellie is the main character and is very likeable she runs the local pub and is literally pulled from one job or good turn to another with hardly any time for boyfriend, Max the rich property developer. Add into this Max's little sister coming to stay with him from Spain full of angst, moods, rebellion and upset, makes life even harder for Ellie and Max.
The book has a feel good vibe running right through it and I thoroughly enjoyed reading it, the village was full of community spirit and there was plenty going on to keep it interesting. I can definately see another in the series being a success.
I would like to thank netgalley and aria for this ARC I received in exchange for an honest review.

Why this book should wriggle its way up your TBR?
Summer and The Dog & Duck is a fantastic and joyous summer-y read! Jill Steeples writing style is very engaging and invites you straight into the midst of the story.

I loved meeting Ellie Browne, the landlady of The Dog &Duck. Ellie is the ultimate girl next door who is proud to grow in the idyllic setting of Little Leyton and loves to make the residents of the village welcome in her pub. She is there to help her friends and doesn't shy away from hard work. Ellie Brown was a very easy character to bond with, and so were many others.

I was absolutely smitten with Katy and Max Golding who made themselves very comfortable in the countryside lifestyle soaking up the village atmosphere and becoming part of the tight-knit community.

Summer in The Dog & Duck is an utterly romantic book with a plotline that is oozing charm and warmth and make you swiftly sing into a relaxing reading session.

This is a lovely return to the Dog and Duck and the lovely landlady- Ellie Browne. I loved the first book in the series and you very quickly settle amongst familiar characters and the wonderful village community and feel like you are rejoining friends. This would be the perfect read to take on your holidays- easy to relax into and a feel good story.

Ellie and Max are a lovely couple but life throws more than a few obstacles in their path during the course of the book with his ex and his sister making an appearance.

A pub called the Dog and Duck just has to have a resident dog and black labrador Digby is an adorable character in his own right. The regulars are lovely and really make you want to live in Little Leyton with the Dog and Duck as your local.

A delightful piece of chick lit that highlights not only the romance between Ellie and Max but also = and even better in some ways- the people in the village of Little Leyton. Steeples has written a wonderful ensemble novel. You'll laugh at some of the eccentrics and, if you've lived in a small town (even if it isn't in the UK) , the annoyances that come with it. I had not read the first book but I really didn't find that a problem as this is perfectly self contained. I read it on a stinking hot day but it would be perfect anytime you'd like a light happy read. Thanks to net galley for the ARC.

I got as far as page 185. Part of me thought that as I had got that far I should finish, but a bigger part thought why bother, I have better books to read. I never made a connection with any of the characters and consequently could not care what happened to any of them. The story is dull and the writing is distinctly mediocre. This is my first and last by Jill Steeples. I guess I should have paid attention to the cover - the cheesy "one foot in the air" while cuddling, should have alerted me to the feeble nature of this limp offering.

I listened to this on audiobook.

I have thoroughly enjoyed book 2 to the Dog and Duck series. It's been a lovely story and an absolute pleasure to be reaquainted with the characters and the dogs. As well as familiar characters, some new ones were introduced as well such as Katy (Max's sister) and George (Ellie's tenant). Both characters bought interesting developments to the ongoing story.

The story is well written and very much an easy read, with a fair bit of drama and giggles throughout.

Enjoying the series so much, that I am moving on to book 3 straight away.

I really enjoyed the first book in this series and so was looking forward to reading this book. I was not disappointed.

A delightful well written romance with lovely believable characters who you instantly warm to. A gorgeous village setting with fantastic community spirit. Charming, funny with a feel good feeling throughout. A fabulous light hearted read. I loved it!

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for an honest review.

Having read the first book in this series I was hooked on the lovely village setting and the unique characters.
This second in series continues Ellie's story, covering her lovelife, her new role as landlady and her interactions with friends throughout the village.
The story is full of credible situations and reactions, providing an engaging read that is far from being just a romcom. This book has a lovely summery feel with descriptions and events.
Fully recommend the series!

Great Read.

I really enjoyed the next book in the series of the Dog and Duck.
A light hearted comical read, if only real life could be rectified like it can in a book, the whole world would be happier.
Jill has done a fantastic job with the follow on book and leaves you hungry for more, I can't wait it's not out until 2018.
Enjoy this second part of the story it's a great read.

Loved this latest book in the series with Ellie and Max, and if course Digby who had found his furever hime with Ellie.

Max's younger sister, who's 17, has come to stay, following a disagreement her Mum in Spain. Max has no clue why she's there or what to do with her.

Sasha also shows up in the village, why is she there?

Lots of questions to be answered while village life carries on all around them.

Am hoping there will be a return to the village soon.

This was my kind of read. I loved all the characters and how they interacted with each other. I fell in love with Digby who is a gorgeous black Labrador. There are a few funny moments, I haven't read any of Jill's books before and I knew this was a follow on but I really enjoyed it. I could imagine myself there in the thick of it and I could imagine myself giving lots of cuddles to Digby the dog.
