Raising cattle is hard work, but Chet Wilde’s been doing it since he was a boy. It’s the kind of grind that takes a toll on a man and reveals who he is, deep down. What kind of man is Chet? He may just be the last real cowboy. He carries himself with a quiet dignity that commands respect from everyone he meets. Lately though, Chet’s started wondering if there’s more to life than work.
Christy Harris hoped moving halfway across the country would help her escape the problems in her life. Namely, her abusive boyfriend, Mark. Not willing to let go that easy, Mark follows her west, determined to maintain control over every aspect of her life. Christy’s at her wits end, and is losing hope of ever being happy.
After a chance encounter brings them together, the chemistry between Chet and Christy is undeniable. When Chet witnesses Mark’s abusive nature, he’s not the kind of man to sit idly by.
Is Christy ready to recognize the difference between control and protection? Will Chet’s feelings for her be too much? Or, will she accept the same truth he already has? They’re meant to be together.

5/5 STARS I really enjoyed this sweet romance Taking What Is Mine. Chet and his brothers were great and their banter between each other was hilarious. I could not put this book down it was wonderful just as I knew it would be. Christy and Chet had great chemistry and I'm really happy with their HEA! I am excited about the next book and hope it is about Gabe. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.
Just not much to this. The characters get together very early and then basically nothing happens for the rest of the book. The relationship felt very surface level and I did not feel an emotional connection at all.
I was pretty disappointed with this. I recently read Abby’s book, Wounded and devoured it. I really really liked it so I was excited when I won this in a giveaway on FB. But I’m bummed that I didn’t love it!! I didn’t feel a connection between the characters at all.
I received an ARC of this book in exchange for a fair and honest review.
I really wanted to like this book. I loved the concept of a husband and wife team writing a romance novel. Unfortunately, this did not meet my expectations. The storyline had a lot of promise. However, at times I could definitely tell that a different hand was holding the pen. There were instances when descriptions of sexual acts used words that the characters had not said before or afterwards and took me out of the scene. I also could not wrap my head around the fact that brothers in their late 30s/early 40s would act in such a juvenile manner when one of them got into a relationship. I kept waiting for one of the brothers to start running around the couple, poking them in the ribs, and chanting "Chet and Christy sitting in a tree.."
Overall, great premise for a story but a presentation of it that left a lot to be desired.
This book must be on your immediate TBR list!!! I definitely want more from Abby Brooks and Will Wright. This book covers a range of emotions from low self worth, anger and hurt to happy, joy love and feeling complete. Chet Wilde has put his responsibilities to family and home before himself since his father passed. He and his brothers were raised to respect others especially women and can't abide someone who isn't. Christy Harris has moved her life from Pennsylvania to Colorado after her uncle left her his homestead and vet practice and to finally break free from her controlling and abusive boyfriend. When Chet needs a vet at his ranch due to an emergency and meets the new vet it seems the earth has tilted on it's axis and the stars align. After Chet comes to Christy's rescue when her boyfriend belittles her st a restaurant then leaves her stranded Christy knows things must change and Mark had to go, her love for him died a slow death long ago. Christy is still reeling from her blowup with Mark but can't fight what she feels for Chet. As they get to know each other Christy waits for the other shoe to drop thinking Chet will become another Mark. When Mark shows back up Christy needs time away from Chet to get her head straight because her feelings for him are barreling forward too fast. With both Chet and Christy going day to day being miserable without the other and on auto pilot someone had to step in and bring these two together before it's too late. Will Christy finally realize Chet is the real deal or continue to fight what feels wright. I loved this heartwarming second chance story and hope to see Gabe's story next. This book has his/her POV, no cheating and a great HEA, and no cliffhanger. One click this book now!! I support the authors of ARC's and purchase their books to add to my collections, and this book is definitely in my collection.
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book Thank you Abby Brooks and Will Wright for a great story
What is the percentage of having a second chance in love after a horrible relationship? Not much but this story makes the reader hope for the best. Christy is a veterinarian who has moved to Colorado after her uncle left her a homestead. She meets a handsome farmer who falls head over heels with her but Christy has a twisted relationship with Mark, a man that spends his time bullying her. Chest is fascinated by her and one day he assists an unpleasant quarrel between Christy and Mark. He faces the man and fortunately Christy gets momentarily rid of him. It seems that things start going the right way. Chest begins a courtship that melts Christy’s heart but still she is quite unsure of this new relationship due to her past and to her mother’s stormy relationship with her father. But Chest doesn’t give up and it will take all his love and patience to let Christy finally yield to their pure love. This book was so amazing. Chest is a loving and thoughtful man and Christy is sweet and caring. Even with their faults, they are perfect for one another. As I said before this book gives hope that life always gives a second chance even when things seem to go bad. I highly recommend this beautiful story.
Abby Brooks and Bill Wright have created a day dream inducing swoon worthy, emotionally torn read that tantalized my senses kept me enraptured with the hot, sweet, fun heartbreaking story that is Chet ( a.k.a Chester) and Christy. Once again Abby and Abby's counterpart-have has taken me on an emotional journey. This one included a man who didn't express much but when he did it was all smooth talkin' Cowboy- with a ladies first mannerisms ( in all things) so much alphaness it will make you dizzy and a feisty, stubborn, over thinking veterinarian who is about to get her world turned around by the Wilde Family. This fast-paced, instant all need for each other tale was a frustrating treat to watch as their relationship came to be, with the help of Chet's brothers ( whom I found funny and adorable, most of them anyway) and the Mom, who holds them all together. They work through demons of the past and ones still lingering in the present to forge a beautiful path to the future! I could not get enough of this sweet, sultry tug at my heart read! #mustread Looking forward to what this duo has in store for us next!
I received this as an ARC & the opinion expressed is my own. I loved this book! Abby Brooks & Will Wright have written a beautiful story about what it's like to find the one you're meant to be with. Chet Wilde is a natural born rancher who is the oldest of seven sons. He took over the ranch in his father's death. Christy Harris is the new bet in town who took over her uncle's practice on his death. Christy & Chet are both at crossroads in their lives & on their first meeting finding themselves attracted to each other. Problem is Christy has a boyfriend who is verbally abusive that she can't seem to get rid of. One afternoon Christy is left stranded at the supply store & when Chet brings her home the boyfriend gets physically abusive prompting Chet to physically send his on his way. Christy & Chet start dating & become intimate. The boyfriend comes back trying to rekindle the relationship with Christy & Chet get possessive prompting Christy to finally stand up for herself & send the boyfriend on his way permanently but she also asks Chet to leave. Will they be able to get past this roadblock??? To find out you'll need to read the book. You won't be disappointed.
Sometimes love comes easy, but it brings baggage. When Chet and Christy meet, the attraction is deep and immediate.
There’s something very special about Chet. He’s strong and upright and true… There’s just something about that cowboy.
And Christy is strong and confident in her profession as a veterinarian, and beautiful and sweet as a woman. A dynamic and lovely combination that pulls at Chet’s heart.
But Christy is already involved with an obsessive, abusive man. A man she’s been trying to unload for some time now… Wow, this guy just can’t take a hint. Or get a grip, apparently. And in trying to avoid harsh words and bad feelings, Christy is now caught in the quicksand of Mark’s abuse.
And, so although Chet and Christy are falling for each other, the timing seems all wrong…where do they go from here? I settle in to find out. And I am swept away on their journey. My heart goes right along with them, breaking for them and hoping for them. And believing, always believing, love will find a way.
I received an advance reader copy of this book, and this is my honest and voluntary review.
This is a second chance romance story about Chance, a rancher & Christy, a vet. From the moment they set eyes on each other, they are attracted & the chemistry fairly snaps between them. Christy is in a relationship that is turning abusive. She can't get him to leave. She isn't sure she trusts herself not to screw up another relationship. Chance hasn't been with anyone since his broken engagement. He still can't figure out what went wrong.
I like the way the writing styles seem to match up. The character development is thorough & the characters are realistic. The problem I had was more emotional. Christy seemed to jump from the abusive relationship into Chance's arms with no hesitation. If the first relationship was as rough as it sounded, I would have thought there would be some fear in trusting another man so quickly, especially one that came across as possessive as Chance did. Once I made the decision to overlook this inconsistency, the rest of the story flowed well & was enjoyable.
A true love story that grabs your attention and keeps it until the end.
I received this book as an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Chet is a man of few words that gave up love a long time ago when he had to become the head of his family after his father died. When he meets the new vet in town he knows the second he sees her that there is something different about her. He can’t stop thinking about her and wants to get to know her better. Christy has been in a relationship with Mark forever and she is not sure when things started to go downhill but it has been over for a long time. That’s why she decided to move to her uncle's farm that he left her but Mark followed along. That's when it got worse and Chet helped get Mark out of her life. Chet makes Christy feel alive but everything is happening too fast. She is not sure if she should trust her head or her heart. Will they both take a chance and find love or go their separate ways? I couldn’t put this book down once I started it. I had to find out what happened between Christy and Chet. I recommend it to anyone.
I absolutely LOVED reading about Chet & Christy! For one, the dynamic between the brothers was absolutely like most family dynamics are. SOme were closer than others, while there were some that had tumultuous relationships (cant wait to see what really happened with Leo & Chet).
Christy is dealing with her relationship with Mark and trying to navigate how to end it with him. This brought to mind a relationship in my own life and how to actually state what you want and move forward with your decisions.
Chet was settled and ready to live life alone with his family and the ranch.
But then they meet and everything they thought they knew they wanted was thrown into upheaval!
Their relationship is like what a LOT of us go through in life, whether it be in relationships or in moving forward with something in our lives...wondering if we are making the right decisions or not. It really brought home a lot of things I feel about my own particular life.
I absolutely LOVED this and cant WAIT to see what happens with the rest of the family! (I'm hoping we get to find out!).
I recieved a copy of this ARC so as to leave and honest review for Abby Brooks new book I am a first time reader of Abby Brooks and i realy like her writing style and am looking forward to reading more of her work. This book is about Chet Wilde and Christy who meat at a time when Christy is trying to move on in a new town were she takes over her uncles vet practice but she cant seem to get rid of her ex who dosen't seem to be able to take a hint and move on hes obnoxious and verbally abusive. Chet Wild is the complete opposite he runs his family ranch business alongside with the help of his 2 brothers. Chet is the quite type with a good heart who has relized his life is missing something. When these two meet in stint atraction but Christy is unsure of her feelings and Chet only wants to make her happy will these two be able to get together what dose the future hold for them and the rest of the Wild clan read the bookand take the journey you wont be disappointed.
AN ABSOLUTELY PHENOMENAL BOOK!! 💕 Bysandyon September 15, 2017 WOW! Just WOW!! This book was phenomenal!! I laughed and I cried and I swooned so hard. Chet helps to run his family farm and Christie is the new Veterinarian in town! Sparks fly the instant they meet but Christie already has a boyfriend. Mark.. (Boo). Not the greatest guy out there and Christie has been trying to get rid of him, by moving away. Only Mark decides to follow and "help" her move in. When Chet scares off Mark during a confrentation between him and Christie, they think he is gone for good!! But is he? This book is a journey of love and hope and even some heartache and I promise you, you won't want to put it down!! Wonderfully written and such a believable plot (which I absolutely love). A definite must read!! You won't regret it at all!! I absolutely fell in love with Chet and Christie and can't wait to read about the rest of the brothers!!
What an amazing read by Abby Brooks about a true gentleman cowboy, Chet & the new vet in town, Christy. This is one of those stories that made me swoon, then sigh, then swoon some more over Chet. The sparks, the attraction, the chemistry jumped off the pages, the story and all the characters especially Chet & Christy made it hard to put the book down. The steamy scenes....WOW WOW WOW....it's hard to put down what I loved the most about this book, Chet his quiet but take charge demeanor, his protectiveness, his straight shooting & not mincing words, not a man wh***, his dedication to his family, him putting Christy's happiness and her before him....I can go on & on & on....Christy, a woman who is strong & compassionate, a woman trying to get herself back after an abusive relationship by starting over & finding a man worthy of her. Highly recommended read !!!! *I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book*
3.25- Stars. This is the first book in a Series titled “Wilde Boys”. Chet Wilde is the oldest brother and his last name doesn’t describe him at all. Chet is a no-nonsense type of man that work hard, loves his mother, and is loyal. He falls for the beautiful new Vet in town, Christy, that he affectionately calls “Doc”. Sparkles fly and these two become an item. The storyline goes as expected with nothing that sets this book apart from other books with a similar theme. Doc is trying to leave behind her controlling ex-boyfriend and start a new life in a small town in Colorado. The ex doesn’t quite gasp that idea and continues to cause her trouble. Chet deals with the ex and that sends warning signs to Doc. So their relationship hits a bump before they get their HEA. Now it does seem a few of Chet’s younger brothers have more “Wild” in them than he does, so future books may be more entertaining.
Chet and Christy's story is pretty good. I enjoyed the storyline and all the characters. I read it in a day. And I look forward to reading the next book in this series. I only have one con about this book. As I read about the characters and followed them on their journey of love, it felt rushed. I wanted .....more. Chastity was a vet. Where was her office? What happened during a day of work? Who all works for her? I remember only the mention of one woman and that was only a few paragraphs. Sad really. This storyline needed a little more fleshing out and it would have been an easy 5. Don't get me wrong, I still liked it. I enjoyed it. I read it all. But if there was just a little more insight into their lives to make a more emotional connection, I believe this story could have been epic.
I truly recommend this book. Adult 18+ Read (perfectly steamy romance)
I'm an Abby Brooks fan. I believe she is a very talented writer. Which is why this book left me sort of "Meh" It's not a bad book. Three stars from me is not a bad rating. Our protagonists Chet and Christy are certainly worthy of supporting. There's no cringe worthy moments in their story. In fact I dare say that the issue that arose between them was perfectly understandable. More so than a lot of mad up issues that contemporary romance authors come up with for their characters to overcome. Based on the title and the first couple of chapters I was really expecting a little more action and suspense. I expected Christy's ex-Mark to have a bigger role. But the lack of it isn't why I finished this story feeling like the author was a bit uninspired. Especially for the first book in a series. It's just that for me nothing really stood out about it to raise it to a four or five star level. I've read Ms, Brooks at her best and this just didn't rise to that level.
I was provided an Advanced Review Copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. A romantic modern cowboy/veterinarian story that takes place in Colorado. Abby has written a lovely story with an engaging storyline that kept me turning the pages until the last word. Her writing style, humorous at times, included funny lines between brothers that seemed authentic to a large family and alien to an outsider. The characters were also well developed and unique. I could picture Chet being the older silent man and Christy as this fiery vet who must finally deal with the baggage she brought with her from PA. The antagonist, Mark, I pictured as this fish out of water, sleazy mofo who must be dealt with once and for all or there will be no HEA. The book ended leaving me feeling there maybe another story about another brother. Let's hope so. Enjoy!
Taking What Is Mine is a wonderful story of finding love again written by a husband and wife. I've read several books by Abby Brooks, and was thrilled to get this collaboration with her better half. Chet and Christy are such a sweet couple, and the way he stands up and shows up for her as she's trying to get out of an abusive relationship is absolutely endearing.
Chet shows over and over again how different he is from Christy's crazy ex, Mark, and it's not just because he's a rancher! Chet is thoughtful and pensive, and is the type of guy who only speaks when he has something important to say. So when he voices his opinion about what Christy deserves, she listens!
I can't wait to see what Brooks and Wright come up with for the rest of the men in the Wilde family! I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.
When I found out that Abby Brooks was co-writing a new book, I was really excited! I love her writing style and knew I'd enjoy this new series! I absolutely loved this book, first of all, I'm a sucker for Brothers books and there are 6 Wilde Brothers!!!!! Chet Wilde is a cowboy! Like a real cowboy! He's quiet, a gentleman and my new bbf lol Poor Christy has been through a lot! Trusting men isn't high on her priority list, that's for sure! Her Ex is a real piece of work... This story has so many feels, brought out tons of emotions, I loved the family bond aspect of it and the chemistry is amazing to read about! Well done Abby Brooks, I CANNOT wait to read about the rest of the Wilde gang! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️from me 📚😍📚
****Generously received an ARC copy of this book in exchange flor an honest review**** 3.5 stars
This is a cute, quick second chance love story. Christy the new vet in town and meets the sexy single cowboy Chet. While trying to get away from her boyfriend Mark who treats her like trash the connection between these two blossoms. Overall a very sweet romance. I would have liked a little more character development with the Wilde boys and a little more about the history about what seems to cause such a riff between Cher and Jack but I'm sure there's more to come in future books. Overall I liked both the main characters even if they are both a little stubborn and proud and get in their own way
I loved this book from the first word to the last! Abby & Will did an amazing job! I'm looking forward to more books by them.
I loved Chet! A strong silent type who is good to his family. Such a gentleman. I adored his protectiveness over Christy.
Christy has been through some rough times and moved to start fresh and take over for her uncle. I loved Christy's confidence that grew throughout the book.
I really enjoyed the secondary characters! I'm hoping that each of Chet's brothers get to tell their story!
***I received an advanced reader's copy from the author. I reviewed this book voluntarily.***
Quick and highly enjoyable Western romance. The hero, Chet, was a model boyfriend and stood out from his five(count'em five!) brothers as the man to rely on when hard times hit. His veterinarian love interest was a bit less likable but together they made a steamy couple. Gabe, one of the hero's brothers, was a joke-cracking man about town who grew on me and will doubtless get his own book. This story just flew by, probably more due to my interest in the story than the actual page length!
I received a complimentary advance copy of this book from the author. This is my voluntary and honest review.
When I heard Abby Brooks was co-writing a book I was super excited to read as I'm a huge fan! This is a heartwarming sweet read that I really enjoyed. My only little niggle was I'd thought Christy may have been a little more weary when it came starting a new relationship, especially after how her last one was. The more I thought about it though I realised there are no rules when it comes to following your heart and if I was in her position who's to say I wouldn't do the same? Overall though I loved Chet and Christy individually and as a couple, they're super hot! I really hope there's more from these two authors and we hear more from Chet's brothers! He has five of them! I can't wait!
I absolutely loved this book. I read it in one sitting because I couldn't go to sleep before finishing it. I want a friend like Chet because he's a caring, considerate, wonderful man. Christy doubts herself after her relationship with Matt becomes psychologically abusive. When Chet shows a protective side to keep her safe from Matt, Christy isn't sure if it's the start of a controlling relationship. I hope this is the start of a long series because I want to read about each of the secondary characters and learn all about them as well. This book made me want more and I can only anxiously wait and hope there is more to come.
I absolutely fell in love with Chet Wilde from the moment he walked over to the table at the diner and checked the wobble factor, in order to defuse Mark's behavior. That was also when I realized that Abby had me hooked! I received an ARC of the book for an honest review, but it was a no brainer for me. This is my first book by Abby Brooks and I'm already itching for my next one. Her characters are so rich and they just draw you into their lives and make you feel everything with them, the emotions, their fears, their happiness. I loved Chet and Christy and all that they experienced together. I'm so looking forward to reading about Chet's other brothers!
If you need a heartwarming read that renews your faith in love and men, look no further. I'm a believer.
Chet encounters Christy aka Doc when she comes to his ranch as the new vet. They intrigue each other but the timing is bad. Doc is involved with someone, unhappy, but involved.
Chet experiences first hand the uneasy life Doc leads with her boyfriend and circumstances present themselves where Chet steps in to protect her. From there, their relationship begins.
Past fears and mistakes cause the couple to doubt things. Can they overcome? Will they try to make amends or move on?
