Where the Heart Is

Rate this book
shouldn’t be in love, but baby I am
I know it’s crazy, but I don’t give a damn
shouldn’t want you near me
but you’re inside me, can you hear me
I’m praying you need me, baby say you do
I’m laying in bed, dreaming of you
cuz I remember you moving, gliding
can’t get over you, baby I’m trying
why can’t I have you, why’s it have to be so complicated
the love I feel hasn’t faded

I wrote those lyrics for Jonny after he walked away.

It was never meant to be between us; I knew it, he knew it, we talked about it.

The trouble is, love never listens to logic. And for two people who have never really had a home or known love, logic is all that keeps us be smart, survive, do what has to be done. And, in my case, take care of my son. Forget my dreams, forget love…nothing matters but making it day by day.

But then I met Jonny, and everything changed.

*   *   *

I’m a vagabond. I’ve lived my whole life out on the ocean, surviving by my wits and my knowledge of the sea. I’ve never needed anyone, never stayed in one place long enough to let something like that happen.

Christian, the only person I’ve ever really cared about, goes missing and gives me a box of letters and makes me promise to take it to his wife, Ava. Problem is, when I get to her, Ava is missing too, and their condo is ruined by the same hurricane that claimed Christian. And then I meet Delta, Ava’s sister, Christian’s sister-in-law, and she changes everything.

It wasn’t supposed to be anything. Nothing was supposed to happen. We helped dig out survivors of the hurricane together, and that was it. Only…that wasn’t it. Something happened. And now I can’t get her out of my head, or out of my heart.

Even when I walk away, I can’t escape her. Especially when I hear her voice on the radio, singing a song meant for

You walked into my life, with your dark skin and brown eyes
I tried to resist you, tried not to kiss you
you speak soft and you move slow
you’ve got strong hands and few words
but I hear it anyway, everything you don’t say
I tried to resist you, tried not to kiss you
but god, your lips, the way you moved your hips
the way you said my name
and said you felt the same
the way you took my hand
and kissed me in the sand

To be honest, I spent the entirety of this book waiting to find out about the status of Christian, our hero from the first book.

description

I had a hard time caring about Ava’s sister Delta Martin as she is the heroine of this book and Christian’s friend Jonny is the hero. Delta is a single mom who’s music career takes off in this book and sailor Jonny gives up the sea for a future with her and her son. Que in a bunch of musical lyrics, and Miranda Lambert as a character in this book.

description

Needless to say, I wanted Ava and Christian and though I tried to care about Delta’s music career and her relationship with Jonny I had to wait to the epilogue to get a smidge of what I was waiting for along with “…to be continued…”

description

Here’s hoping that book 3 comes out soon so I can get back with the couple that I fell for in book 1!

"Some loves are fated and cannot be broken, even by death...Even by the sea. Even by the sea."

This is going to be short.
It's not a secret that I avoid insta-love stories like the plague. I have convincing issues and so it's not my trope.
Where The Heart Is, was basically an insta-love tale, yet it didn't feel like a insta-love tale. Not for a single moment did the lack of realism come to my mind whilst reading it. I was totally engrossed in Delta and Jonny's story and most importantly, convinced that they were made for each other. Jasinda Wilder has a way with the words.

The last 20% of the story was so unexpected! For a moment I got to think where the hell is it going? and wow! talk about talented and creative minds. It was beatiful and stunning and gave me goose bumps.

I've read so many of her books. By now I know that she is almost a safe bet. What she writes touches my heart and as many of her other stories, this one got me tearful a few times.

If you are a fan of Jasinda, don't miss this one out!

Okay so, at the end of The Long Way Home I was left feeling all frustrated and cliff hangered by the way it ended. I thought all of those feelings were going to be soothed when I opened this book. They were, but not in the way I assumed. Confused? That’s because this is Delta and Jonny’s story.

Delta is Ava’s sister and is helping in the after care of sister after a hurricane struck her sister’s home, nearly killing her. Jonny, Christian’s best friend, is also there, fulfilling a promise he made to Christian and helping the wider community in the recovery and big clean up effort.

Once Ava is settled in a hospital, getting the treatment she needs, Delta and Jonny are left to their own devices, waiting for her health to improve. By day, Jonny is helping in the search for survivors and recovering bodies. By night, they are camping out on the beach and during this time they spend a lot of time together, getting to know each other.

Delta has been a single mum for a long time but many years ago she had dreams of being a country music singer. These got pushed aside when she realised she would be raising her child alone. Too many years have gone by now for that to dream to ever come to fruition.

There is an undeniable attraction between them and the trauma they dealing with each day leaves them both feeling quite emotional so it is inevitable that they find solace in each other’s bodies. Most evenings are spent enjoying a few camp fire sing alongs with a group of other like minded people who play different instruments, who knew that this moment in time would change Delta’s life.

Delta and Jonny definitely have a pretty amazing connection but they are at different places in their lives. He is a sailor and loves being on the ocean, it’s in his blood and he feels most at peace at sea. It won’t be long until the pull of the waves take him back to what he loves but will he be leaving a little piece of his heart behind? Will the physical distance between them be too much to bear?

‘I knew he would, I knew he had to go; I knew he couldn’t and wouldn’t stay. I knew our lives couldn’t fit together. But none of that has any bearing on the fact that… I don’t want him to go.’

There is so much more to this story that I haven’t even touched on. There is still a bit of Christian & Ava weaved through this story too and the promise of what is to come in the next book is enough to keep my impatience at bay because OMG it is going to be good!

I received a copy of this book from the author for an honest review.

I have to say - I devoured this book. Delta and Jonny were shown to us in the first book of this series The Long Way Home. I've been looking forward to reading their story to see what would transpire.

Her whole life Delta has felt unloved and unworthy. She's never made a whole lot of her life except to be a fabulous mother to her son, Alex. She always had dreams of making it as a singer/songwriter but that never came to fruition.

Johnny is a man of the sea. Do you know the song Brandy by Looking Glass? The sailor loves the barmaid named Brandy but the love of his life is the sea. Johnny's only loved the sea. Nothing has ever been captivating on land. Until he meets Delta.

Oh my gosh these two. I'm telling you. They have such a sweet story. This book is only about 15 chapters total but it's got the sweetest love story packed into this book.

I absolutely love how Delta stands by Johnny as he grieves for a family he helped pull from the wreckage of a fallen building. Just being there for him is not something most people would even do. They'd just go about their merry way.

I think their story has a lot to say about what these characters have been missing in their lives and their unknown search to complete their hearts.

There's a small part included about Ava and Christian from book one in here as well. I'm definitely looking forward to the next book to see how that situation turns out!

Anyway - definitely add Where the Heart is to your list. Delta's music may just move you in ways you'd never expect.

Where The Heart Is by Jasinda Wilder is the second book in The One Series and can easily be read as a standalone.
Where the Heart is picks up where book one, The Long Way Home ends. The Long Way Home is Ava and Christian´s story.
And Where The Heart Is features ´Delta and Jonny.
Delta Martin is Ava´s older sister, she´s a single mom and works hard to make ends meet.
Jonny Nunéz is a world traveler and Christian St.Pierre´s best friend.
Both meet in the aftermath of the horrible natural disaster at the end of book one. Ava was rescued by Jonny at the last second and Christian is still missing. Both work ´til totally exhaustion, mentally and physically.
And they grow feelings for each other. But they´re on different paths in their life.
Jonny is a floater, he has no roots, no home, a vagabond.
Ava is a single mom with responsibilities and dreams of her own.
That doesn´t work together, not at all. They separate and both are really miserable.
But what to do and how to make it work?

Favorite Quote: " Some loves are fated, and can not be broken, even by death, even by the sea. "

Jasinda Wilder did it again. She wrote a heart wrenchingly and beautiful story about life, love and had me captured at page one. I read this book in one sitting, I couldn´t put it down. I didn´t wanted the book to end but I couldn´t not know what happens to the characters.
I love the story and the writing. I love the words and the characters, I could feel their emotions in the words.
This story has it all—tension, angst, suspense and heartbreak. I´ve smiled, laughed, cried and was angry at some point. It is not often I feel so connected to the characters, but Jasinda Wilder has accomplished just that.
And now I really, truly can´t wait to read the next installment in the series. Jasinda Wilder has me hooked on this series and I love it.
I Highly, Highly recommend the book and the series, this is a Must read !!! and wish I could give more than 5 Stars. Thank you so much, Jasinda Wilder !!

My Heart Hurts. This book may have healed some of the breaks from its predecessor, but it made even more shatters. I ended this book itching for the next even more and I can't wait to get my hands on it.

No author I read writes emotional romances like Jasinda Wilder. This novel, heck, this series just bleeds the emotion out onto you while you read. You can't help but fall in love with these characters and feel their pain as you read. This novel came out soon after Irma hit and it made the novel even more impactful to read.

These couples that this series touches have become a family to me as a reader and I need for them to have their closure and their happily ever afters. The more we get into the series the more you connect with it.

Especially with this novel, I can say that this author know what they are doing with a slow burn. That would not be in the way you assume. The slow burn this novel gives you is one of healing. Our main duo was so broken that this entire series has been them finding what they needed to heal and finding a way back to each  other.

I can't wait to see where it goes. I know I won't be disappointed, because HELLO, this is Jasinda Wilder we are talking about and the endings we get are the sweetest of sweet.

Jacinda Wilder has done it again. How she manages to write these amazing love stories. That suck you in, but they never fail to leave you feeling completely sated. You instantly fall in love with characters that you really feel connected to. This is the kind of book where something so devastating happens it takes a special someone to pull you through the hard stuff to bring you out the other side.

Although this book isn't the one I was expecting to come next. I really wanted more of Ava and Christian but we got Delta and Jonny and I am more than happy with that. All good things come to those who wait. I laughed, cried, got super angry. I had all the emotions that you expect from a wonderful from the heart story.

Again I recommend this author. She seems to do no wrong (well part from keep me waiting lol). Whatever she puts her mind, pen and paper too. Just seems to be infectious and a great read.

Where The Heart Is a love story best described as a lovers lullaby. An emotional and poetic connection between a dreamer and a vagabond.

Delta Martin and Jonny Nuñez are first introduced in The Long Way Home as Ava's sister and Christian best friend. They come together when a natural disaster hits Florida and they work as team to help save a city. But as they help, they see in one another something they had once lost. Something they thought it was unobtainable... Love.

While I'm thoroughly loving this series, this book I loved so much more. Where The Heart Is will speak to you in a unique way. Words and lyrics will wrap around your romantic heart.

Love Delta and Jonny. This is a good love story and the book works as a standalone. Disappointed that we didn't get Ava and Christian's conclusion and, now have another Ava and Christian cliffhanger to add to the first Ava and Christian cliffhanger. Oh well!

Where the Heart is book two of the The One series by Jasinda Wilder.
This book picks right where the first book ended where Jonny and Delta meet for the first time. It is their story which progresses in this installment of The One series.

Jonny is a sailor and ocean is his home. It's all he has known as his skill and as his life. He considers himself to be a nomad and lives with the dark reality of running from his past.

Delta is Ava's older sister and is a single mom to Alex. She has lived a lonely life by working double shift jobs to provide for her son.

When both the characters meet, a bond is formed between two vulnerable souls. They have the spark and the chemistry but can things work for them?

Jasinda wrote an emotional and poignant story. The song lyrics were really heart touching. I read this book in one day and still wish for more. Ava makes a cameo in this book and keeps the reader intrigued about her story. The epilogue rocked me. I can't wait to read more from The One series.

I was so excited this book was out and then a little disappointed I thought it was the continuation of Christian and Ava but it was a story about Jonny and Delta. Christian's best friend and Ava's sister. Not that the story was bad, it was a quick fall in love book, just was expecting a different book. Can't wait for book 3 hopefully Christian and Ava.

I’m late posting this review and others because Hurricane Irma has impacted our power for more than a week after it hit and now we seem to go up and down with the slightest rain for some unknown reason.

Where The Heart Is , is the second novel in The One series. I like this story better than the first one because it doesn’t hit my pet peeves like The Long Way Home. Where The Heart Is picks up where The Long Way Home ends. Jonny Nunez, Christian St. Pierre’s close friend, is working with the search crew after the hurricane hit. His initial goal is to give letters to Ava, Christian’s wife. Christian entrusted them to Jonny in the event he didn’t make it through the storm. Before he could make the delivery, however, he worked with the search crew and Ava’s sister, Delta to dig her out of the rubble that was once Ava’s condo building. Working together, Jonny and Delta form an attraction that they know isn’t wise to move on because it would be temporary.

The Characters:

I like Jonny and Delta as the main characters. They both have a lot in their past that hurts, but it doesn’t get in the way of a stable and loving core. Jonny has the sea that keeps him from making strong bonds and relationships. Like many sailors, the sea calls to his wanderlust. There are challenges and excitement with each voyage. He can’t tie himself down to land because he is more afraid to lose or not live up to the needs that land-living relations might place on him. The funny thing is everyone who meets Jonny sees his heart and strength when he doesn’t.

Delta Martin is a good, strong female character. She compares herself to her sister Ava and feels a failure. Delta is working multiple jobs to keep a roof over her and Alex’s heads. She regrets not going to college, and the men in her life can’t hold a candle to the man Ava’s husband. Delta is a single mother, who is devoted to her son Alex. Alex is the product of one of her many failed relationships. His dad was a major let down for Delta.

The Story:

Where The Heart Is tells a beautiful story of two people lost and disappointed with their pasts. It is very well written and pulls at my heartstrings through most of the book. The characters are complex and entertaining. The dialog draws the reader into the story in a way that makes me more invested in the characters as the story progresses. I am easily put off if a push-pull relationship hangs on too long—that doesn’t happen here. The push-pull is realistic because of the characters’ lives. Delta is a single mom who isn’t comfortable bringing men into her child’s life only to have them disappear and Jonny is committed to the sea and won’t be around long. It works.

My big negative is the same as the one I had at the end of The Long Way Home. We are still left hanging regarding Ava and Christian. There is a hint about what happens in the next book, but we aren’t there yet. I am grateful that this book is a complete “happy-for-now” story of Jonny and Delta. However, I really hoped for Ava and Christian’s story first. The other criticism is that I couldn’t find an anticipated release date for book three. (There could be information on Jasinda’s site, but my power is so flakey after Hurricane Irma that I am offline more than on.) I’m also not sure that there will only be three books and wonder if the next one will wrap the story. There is a real possibility that Jonny and Delta’s story has more to reveal which can translate into not concluding Ava and Christian’s story too.

The criticism aside, Where The Heart Is , is a well-written, excellent and satisfying story. Jasinda Wilder is an excellent writer and knows how to weave a captivating tale. Where The Heart Is can be purchased and read as a standalone. I recommend it to anyone who craves a good love story that is packed with “feels” and holds the reader from beginning to end. Great story Jasinda Wilder!

...and it just keeps evolving into even more excellence! 4.5 Love Stars!

This book continues this compelling journey that we began from the first book, in which we met all four main characters, Christian - Ava - Delta - Jonny.

In "The Long Way Home", we learn about the relationship between Ava and Christian. We learn all the ups and downs and then we experience the very compelling climax of the story - enter: Delta & Jonny. When I was reading the first book, it was amazing how Jasinda took the main two characters and snuck in a serious chemistry between two more. When I heard about what this book was focused on, I was very happy to see that this story is continuing and is not quite finished yet. Being a huge Jasinda Wilder fan, I always feel the emotions in her books much deeper than many. She tells her stories with such soul and passion - you knew that this one wasn't finished and you know that it still isn't.

What are you doing to me? How can you make this feel so good? This is better than anything has ever felt—I want to keep going forever."

The big question: Is there a cliffhanger? Technically you may think so but!!! because she gives us two storylines, she satisfies you thoroughly in each, where you are not near a point of frustration for more but are given a sense of happiness and patience for the next book to come.

This book was fantastic and I adored it so and loved that the chemistry of Delta and Jonny from the first book was given its own book. This couple is completely different than Ava and Christian so it's as if you're getting a 2 for 1 deal in the "Love Story" department and that's always fine by me! My heart went out to Delta and what she has gone through, the sacrifices that she has made. Her unconditional love and determination to do whatever she has to do for the people she loves is so amazing to me. Her personality shines amongst all her other qualities and with that - how can Jonny not gravitate towards it. *swoon Jonny! Yes, you definitely need to find out more about this particular journey between these two people and hopefully it's on to Christian and Ava again as well.

Lyrics: "Don’t look at me, baby boy I don’t want you to know I don’t want you to see Where I go Or what I do Just to buy that toy I don’t want you to know..." - this song gutted me!

That Jasinda, (SMH with a huge smile) - she is very calculated in her writing which is why she is such a huge success. She is one of the biggest assets to the literary world today and her books are just phenomenal. She has time and time again made me feel so much because of just her words. She does it again in this story as well. Thank You Jasinda Wilder for exposing your talent to the world and giving us a part of you that has given us immense joy and for some, has turned many sad times into amazing escapes.

Sometimes life doesn’t always turn out like we planned. For Delta - a string of endless relationships leads her to a one night stand that she will never forget. As a single mother, Delta knows the strains of trying to keep a roof over your head and food on the table. An endless cycle that brings despair and loneliness in her life. The bright spot in her darkness is being a mother to the sweetest little boy! Alex makes all of the trials and tribulations worthwhile.

When tragedy strikes her sister Ava, Delta heads to Florida only to discover a town devastated by a natural disaster. That is where Delta crosses paths with Johnny. Little did she know that the person that would work so hard to help find Ava was the sailing partner of Christian (Ava’s husband). Johnny lives life wherever the wind takes him. A curiosity that draws Delta in like a moth to a flame.

In spite of all her reservations, Delta gives in to her feelings about Johnny. An epic explosion of two desperate souls that long to belong to another. What should have been a one time occurrence quickly begins to consume both lovers thoughts. As their time comes to an end, Delta and Johnny long for a reason to stay in touch with the other.

Life doesn’t stand still and neither does the obligations the two encounter. Delta finds herself at a crossroads when facing a dream that she felt died long ago. Johnny is struggling with getting his sea legs back after his time spent in Florida. Choices aren’t easy and the roads that the two travel will lead to an end that neither could have dreamed.

Where The Heart Is ….let me start by saying the second book in the series certainly had me hooked. Since the first book left me feeling ‘lost’, I wasn’t sure how I would feel about Delta and Johnny. Two people that meet under very unique circumstances. In fact, their ‘scars’ were a huge part of the beauty within their journey. A testament to finding your heart when you least expect it.

For the fans of Ava and Christian - you will get a glimpse of what is to come in the next novel. A journey that is far from over. One that is waiting to be discovered. While there is more left to uncover, I found myself enjoying the second book in the series much more than the first. What remains for the characters in this series? Only time will tell……

I loved this book!!! It was so great to read about Delta and her story as she goes to Florida to see about her sister after a hurricane hits her town. She just has no idea that she is going to find more than her sister in that Florida town. Delta has had it hard since she had her baby. Hard in the sense that she works hard to make a living for her and her son, taking any jobs that she can to make ends meet, and doing what she loves behind closed doors when she gets off of work, playing her guitar, singing and writing music.

Jonny is Christian's best friend and made him a promise that if anything happened to him that he would give this box to his wife Ava. After a fluke hurricane throws Christian overboard and has Jonny clinking to the hull of his capsized boat, he is rescued and makes his way through the torn up town to get to Christian's wife. Getting to her is an ordeal in itself, but once he arrives, it then becomes a rescue mission as their home has collapsed on her. And there the two meet. Once Ava is in the hospital, Jonny and Delta begin helping with other rescues and in any other capacity that they can. Their being together, no place to sleep except for the beach, the two become close and eventually "very close". The attraction between the two is mutual, but both know that he will leave to go back to the sea and she will return to her home.

But things are not always at they seem and no one knows what the future holds and what their true destiny is.

This is a wonderful story and a very important part of this series. I HIGHLY recommend this book!

Ugh..I so want to give more for this simply because of the author, but I can't.

After leaving Book 1 on a cliffy (totally sucked) I assumed this one would give answers and pick back up but NOPE!

New couple, new story line in a sense and as far as the history goes I would've preferred a continuation of book 1 for the closure and then the next book be what is in this one. I was so lost that I wasn't sure I could finish but I did.

Overall, I hoped for more from Book 1 cause you know cliffhanger, closure and all that and even though in a way it hints to it, I am still at a loss.

Tough break man.

Ok so book 1 left us with a huge cliffhanger. I knew this book wasn't focused on Ava and Christian, but her Sister Delta and and Christian's friend Jonny. I almost skipped this one and went straight to book 3 but I'm glad I didn't. There are things in this one that we needed to know. We needed to understand that Delta and Jonny spent time searching for Ava in the hurricane aftermath. we had to see if jonny kept his promise to deliver the box to ava. There was more of ava and Christian's story within this book and it would have been missed had i skipped this one. But I must get into book 3 cause i have to know how this ends. 3.75 stars

Another intense 'chapter' to the story. I think this series is particularly moving for me because I am both married to a sailor and live in Fort Lauderdale part time. Being married to a sailor, well, it's a different lifestyle that's for sure. And having that intense connection, is not typical either.
I was very relieved by the forward to this book, as I had realized at the end of "The Long Way Home" as hurricane 'Dorothy' was hitting, that this had been written prior to Irma and Jose', and released probably prior as well.
This was a great book and once again I find myself bereft and in need of more....I already miss them all...

Struggling to clean up after Mother's Nature's destruction these two characters form a bond but two different lives make it impossible.

Delta is a single mom whose dream was lost a long time ago. Jonny is a drifter who lives on the sea to escape.

A great read about staying afloat even when life is tossing you among its waves, trying to drown you. I devoured these words of second chances and life. Learning that anything is possible, great things can come from tragedy and love knows no bounds!

I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book for an honest review. I really am really enjoying this series and how different it is to things that I have read in the past. Book one contained emails and letters, while book 2 was song lyrics and memories written as a story. Book 2 focuses mostly on the interactions of Jonny and Delta, but Christian and Ava are present and the underlying story of all that happens. It was another emotional rollercoaster of love and loss and I can't wait to read book 3 and see what happens and if everyone gets their happily ever after.

Where the Heart is, is the second book in The One series. It’s Delta and Johnny’s story; however you do get some additional pieces about Christian and Ava from The Long Way Home.

This was a good story but I’d hoped for more about Christian and Ava than what was there. It’s a well written story and I loved the characters. It has lots of feels, romance and just enough angst to keep the story moving. I cannot wait to read more from this series.

Perfect!

Of course another awesome book by one of my faves!! What a great story for Jonny and Delta. It was emotional and quick! Of course I thought it could have been a little longer, so I can only hope that we get to revisit them in a future book. And can't wait to see how Christian and Ava fair in the next book!!

A must read

We pick up just as we left off from book 1. Will Christian find his way back? That is still a question in the end. This book finds two harden people trying not to fall in love . Sometimes you can't help it especially when you find the match to your heart. The end leaves you wanting more.

The story continues

Another cannot put down novel and cannot wait to read the next book in this series. Love Jasinda’s ability to write a novel and within it to provide you of so far two further mini stories that transport you again to another realm. Now for the next book that I expect will tie it all up and bring it back around.

I was so glad to start reading book 2 in The One series. The ending of book 1 left me hanging. Luckily I did not have to wait long. While book 1 focused on the story of Ava and Chris, book 2 focused primarily on Ava's sister Delta and Chris' friend Jonny. I really enjoyed the new couple's story, but found myself wondering when I would find out more about the cliffhanger from the first book. Jasinda did not disappoint me at all. This series is so good and I am very anxiously awaiting book 3!
