Eden Butler is a writer of contemporary, fantasy, and romantic suspense novels and the nine-times great-granddaughter of an honest-to-God English pirate. This could explain her affinity for rule breaking and rum.
When she's not writing or wondering about her possibly Jack Sparrowesque ancestor, Eden patiently waits for her Hogwarts letter, reads, and spends too much time in her garden perfecting her green thumb while waiting for the next New Orleans Saints Super Bowl win.
She is currently living under teenage rule alongside her husband in southeast Louisiana.
Don’t let the cover fool you this story ISN’T about bdsm. The hero and heroine were everything to one another as teenagers.
"…when the two of you are around each other, no one else exists.”
The story is told in past and present as we see what changed the loyal teen into rock and roll’s sexy, vulgar, bad boy.
"I’m the monster you made me.”
Iris Dane’s career is in shabbles as rockstar Dash Justice’s new song blasts her. She digs deep to try to fix the situation however, the sparks between these two are even stronger as adults. There are secrets and lies and revenge in this novel.
Even though I have read the scenario where the writer accompanies the rock star on tour this one is definitely unique and left me itching to get my hands on the conclusion for Jamie and Iris!
This is a friends to lovers romance that begins in high school, something happened and now it's ten years later. We get bits and pieces along the way with plenty of scenes in the past.
Jamie and Iris were great together, sharing a love of music, specifically a band named Hawthorne. Finally on Iris' eighteenth birthday, Jamie sings a song he wrote about his feelings for her and they begin a very intense romance.
In the present, Iris is a music journalist and Jamie - stage name Dash - is the lead singer/guitarist of an extremely popular scream rock band. They are not friends and they do not have any contact with each other, that is, until Dash writes a song with Iris' name in it basically calling her a whore.
Naturally, the song is everywhere and Iris' career is in the dumps. She manages to get to Dash and comes up with a deal - give her exclusive rights to him for an interview or she lets some juicy information out.
Next, she's on tour with the band, staying on Dash's bus and spending lots of time with him. We all know where this is going and it's excruciating wonderful!
It was so sweet reading about Jamie and Iris falling in love and he seemed to be a pretty amazing boyfriend. However, he did need some perspective knocked into him, I'm just not sure the way Iris did it was the best way.
I love the way Eden Butler writes angst although I do have to admit that Dash was a hard one to take. Some of the things he did were very unkind and what he did at the end? OMG...horrible, just horrible. I don't know how things will go from here but I do know the author will make things right.
So, the ending leaves us hanging but there is an excerpt for the next book, Beg, and it's coming out January 9, 2018. I cannot wait!
I can't begin to explain how much I loved Kneel. I devoured every page and couldn't stop reading. It's a sexy and beautifully written masterpiece that captured me from the very first page! It's a must read for any second chance romance or rocker romance fans!
Gah... Yeah, I ve said I love angsty stuff but this was just 'too much' to handle... Not cause of the angsty emotional turmoil per se BUT because of the 'mean' stupidity the main male character pulled off and now, the second book is supposed to 'redeem' his fucking assholery deed...
Nah, honestly, I dont believe he is worth it.
I dont forgive him.
Fuck you, Jamie Vega aka Dash Justice, you are a worthless fuck up!
I fell hard for these two flawed characters and CAN'T WAIT for the next book, Beg, to come out! Like, I need it YESTERDAY!!! If you love rockstar romance, second chance love, hate and love colliding on the page... this book is for you!
I went into this without reading the blurb and I am so glad I did. This has everything that I love in a great story. Childhood friends who fall in love, music, a rock star, second chance love and bucket loads of angst :-) Therefore, I was sneak reading all day as I just couldn't stop myself, I have no self control when I am enjoying a good book :) I even messaged Eden half way through the book because I was worried something was going to happen that I wouldn't like!
What is this story about? Jamie and Iris went to high school together and they bonded over their love of music. Especially live music, when others were going to prom they were driving to live shows/concerts in nearby towns and cities, discovering new bands and getting caught up in the magic of music. They danced around their attraction to each other until Iris turned 18 and gave Jamie the gift of her heart. They were inseparable until one night when Iris changed their future.
'First love doesn't always mean your last love. If you don't think he'll let you go, then you're going to have to make him. You're going to have to be stronger than he is. You're going to have to fight for him because he doesn't seem able.'
Ten years later and Iris' hard earned journalism career has just been destroyed by one moment in time. A song written and performed by rock god Dash Justice about the girl who he hates, Iris Daine. Well the feeling is mutual. He may be a rock god but underneath all the make up and persona is her first love Jamie Vega. He now owes her big time and she is back in his life to collect what he owes her, an exclusive interview to save her career.
'He watched me again; that heavy stare, the slow rake of his gaze over my skin felt like a lick, like a breeze I couldn't see but knew was there.'
This story is told in the present but also switches back to their teenage lives as we piece together what happened all those years ago that brought both of them to where they are now. Moments in time can change the course of your life, leading you in a direction you never expected and not always for the better. There is no doubt in my mind that Jamie & Iris are destined for each other but he carries so much hurt and anger, pouring it into the songs he writes and the way he is now. He is not the Jamie that Iris loved all those years ago and she is determined to bring him back into the light.
“I want the boy who made magic.” It was honest, and came out in a rush, my voice raspy. “I want Jamie.”
However, Iris also has secrets, one that will potentially destroy any trust that Jamie ever had in her. The lines begin to blur between them as hate and love collides, they can feel themselves falling once again. Then things take a dramatic turn. Actually, there is no turning bay at all, just a nice big high cliff...... seriously, after everything I went through, how could you do this to me Eden Butler?
I absolutely loved this and cannot wait for the continuation of Iris and Jamie's story :-) Oh and I need to mention the heat level, it was H.O.T as in I needed to change my knickers hot ;-)
Never read this author before. I enjoyed this book... All things considered, I have not read anything for a few weeks now.
She put out a good balance past/present while fleshing out the main characters and their relationship. The love they shared from a young age was full and passionate and I loved both main characters for NOT being cookie cutter copies of so many main characters I have been reading for the past years.
I loved his latino heat and her for knowing what she wants and doing the right thing.
There were a few silly grammatical error, but I overlooked them so I can get to the grit of the story. What can I say, the plot compelled me.
loved this one. i can never pass up some eden butler angst and this book has that along with a lot of my other book loves. we have childhood sweethearts, separation, a rockstar, drama, lies, misunderstandings, top notch heat & chemistry, strong storyline going forward. beware that it's a cliffy though and waiting 1 month for the conclusion is going to be rough.
Well holy hell. Eden Butler has certainly upped the bar with this latest of hers. She took the ordinary in a rocker story and wrote one extraordinary tale. One that is multi-layered and rich with heart-wrenching emotion. One that seared my soul from beginning and end and still has me reeling as I wait for the conclusion in Beg.
For Jamie and Iris, their lonely lives should have been complete as they fell in love in high school. But each had dreams and when they almost drowning in each other, Iris desperately did the unthinkable and ripped their hearts apart. Now ten years later and with each of them living the lives they both desired, all of their woes in a past filled with regret and pain comes to the forefront once again with Iris fighting for her professional career while Jamie is hellbent on ruining it.
What a story. Told in the present with glimpses of the past perfectly placed where needed, Kneel knocked my socks off. I didn't know who to hate and who to love. At times it was as if they were both one feeling. Iris has had her world shattered and Jamie (now the successful Dash Justice) continues to let a long-standing hurt eat away at his very being. There are so many intricacies to their romance and by all intents and purposes, they should still be together. What they had was true. But an a misconstrued act was enough to destroy both of them. And watching now as they continue to lie to one another. Continue to seek vengeance at any cost, I'm left here wondering just how much it will take to make it stop.
Eden Butler has given us not one but two very strong and determined characters in Jamie and Iris. The fact that Iris can give as good as she gets was a true turn-on for me. I have a huge girl-crush on this woman since she is out to take back what is rightfully hers no matter how decimated her heart will remain. And Jamie. I just want to smack him silly and make him see some reason. Thank goodness he has his familia around him. With Isaiah by his side and a few other devoted members of his posse, I'm hopeful he can turn this nightmare around and once again become the talented and caring Jamie Vega instead of the selfish and righteous Dash Justice he is now.
Huge kudos for a job really well done. I'm on the edge of my seat wondering how it will all turn out as a last act of hate could truly destroy them all. Kneel combines a tumultuous romance filled with wildly erotic trysts and a great love deep down that is threatened to be lost forever! With music as a driving force throughout this book, I couldn't even think about giving this book anything less than 5 stars.
Surprises, Angst, and HOT!! Just a little warning...this book is super panty-melting hot, too! I absolutely loved Kneel and can’t wait to read more of Iris and Jamie’s story.
“It’s a risk…” “Chica,” he said, grin sexy, tempting. “Life isn’t worth the ride if there aren’t risks.”
Una storia tutta da raccontare quella di Iris e Jamie.
Da bambini molte volte le richieste d’amicizia arrivano con dei bigliettini e quella che riceve Iris da ragazzina è alquanto particolare.
“Nine Inch Nails or Seether? Led Zeppelin”
I received a copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads 5 "that was flipping awesome" stars!
I've never heard of Eden Butler and have never before read a single thing by her but she sure has my number! Kneel was rock star romance perfection for me. I fell hard for Jamie (aka Dash) and felt my heart break when Iris had to leave him for his own good, so many years before he became the God of Rock. The story goes back and forth from present to past and the story of Jamie and Iris unfolds in perfect timing. Never leaving us hanging too long to know what the heck happened in the past but enough to build up the tension, making me read with fervor to find out what drove them to be the people they are now. The mistakes and the betrayal, the love, hatred and passion between the two are flawlessly written. I couldn't wait to get home to pick up my kindle where the story left off and live a little longer in their world. The ending was slightly cliff hanger-ish but not horrible and you're gonna wanna know what happens, so have it on hand! Absolutely one of my top reads for 2017.
On a small side note, this was an unedited, pre-release copy of this book and I hope that the typos, incorrect words and editing errors were corrected prior to publishing. I was able to complete the book without issue but it was noticeable.
I don’t even know where to start with this review. Kneel was nothing like I expected, but still kept me captivated until the very last word. And, seriously, that ending I need Beg ASAP because there’s going to be a whole lot of groveling going on.
But back to Kneel is not your usual second-chance romance. There’s so much history between Iris and Jamie. So much heartbreak that you wonder how they’re going to work their way back to each other.
Kneel is a smart, scintillating, sexy AF read that will keep you engrossed in Iris and Jamie’s story and sordid history. You won’t want to put it down until the end, when you’re going to want to throw your Kindle. You’ve been warned! ~ Missy, 4 stars
These are two characters that have a flawed and tragic past. Their romance was so deep yet one tragic mistake, caused their love to go sideways. Years later Jamie (aka Dash) has this horrible hate for his one time love Iris. He does everything he can to make her life miserable all because she did something to help him and has paid everyday for it. OMG this story had me all twisted. It is full of love, pain, angst, heartbreak, misunderstandings, hate and love, 2nd chance love…just chock full of all that and then some. This story flashes back and forth from the past to present, present to past in the complex 2nd chance love story, of lovers to enemies love story. Jamie and Iris knew each other at a young age. They were close but an act and choice destroys that love and changes them in ways that this story is just showing parts of. I found Jaime to be this complete jerk yet when I saw the past part of him, of when he and Iris were totally in love and everything was great, then I wanted them together. YET the present Jaime aka Dash is someone I find revolting at times. He looks for ways to knock Iris down even though Iris hasn’t done what he thought she did. Iris has and always will love Jaime, her rocker, the Rock God. There is a huge twist in the story which adds to the pressure that Iris is under. Iris is this sassy, independent, at times broken woman who doesn’t make excuses for things that have happen yet she still holds love in her heart for the man she fell in love with many years before. She is slowly seeing that maybe their love isn’t meant to be and he will go to his grave hating her. Jaime is this huge rock star with a voice that will seduce. He thinks he is this big man and can have any woman. He plans to get revenge on the one woman he couldn’t have and he takes it in the most evil way possible……yet he finds out too late revenge was something he wasn’t owed. OMG and it ends on a HUGE Cliffhanger. What happens will shock you, electrify and break your heart all at once. I'm looking forward to see him beg, I mean BEG in the next God of Rock book and to find out if there is any HEA for this couple. Eden Butler has written a story that is unique and emotional, one that will have you on the edge of your seat. I most definitely recommend this book!!
My Rating: 4.6 stars ***** “I received an advanced copy of this book from the author at no cost to me."
Ok just wow talk about a story that is going to shatter you and the ending oh my gosh the ending just tore my heart out I'm normally not a fan of cliffhangers but I knew going in that this was going to have a second book but the author really just I can't even is amazing with her endings . Eden Butler is one of my favorite authors when I start one of her stories I just know I'm in for a emotional ride that I don't want to get off on . Jamie (aka Dash) and Iris have known one another since a young age but one choice and act destroys them while changing them in ways that were shocking , we got little flashbacks of the two on some monumental moments and then when they are reunited I didn't know if I wanted them back together or not but when they have some sexy times while reminiscing I swooned on some parts but then the bad thing happened and began to get really emotional to were I seriously wanted to cause bodily harm . I really liked Iris she's sassy , selfless , determined , talented , and I'm so looking forward to see whats to come for her in Beg . Ok there is two parts of the hero I fell for Jamie when we got glimpses of the past and I hated Dash the things he would do or say to the heroine just wow even though it is understandable why he acts the way he does I really wanted to be like "dude stop " I'm looking forwarded to see him begging in the next God of Rock. The story line really had me hooked till the very end some moments shocked me , angered me , swooned , fogged up my glasses and close to tears . If you Haven't had the chance to read a book by Eden Butler she is a author you don't want to miss out on one click right away . copy provided for honest review **************************************** hero= 10 and 7 heroine= 9 secondary characters= 9 Chemistry= 10 steam= 8 romance= 7 humor= 3 darkness level= 4 action= 3 mystery= 4 enjoyment= 9 angst= 4 story line=9 Story ending=9 character development= 10 pacing= 10 cover= 10 stars= 5 author= 10 would I recommend this book=yes would I re read this book= yes would I read future books by this author= yes especially the next book in the series
I had mistaken Eden Butler for Jenna Galicki - yes, i know, the names are totally different but it was the stories (the writing style and how it flowed) that felt similar when i read the blurb and boy was i wrong. Both authors have captivating stories, but Kneel drew me in for a few reasons: the cover, the title and the blurb. I'll admit that through much of the book i wondered why the author chose the title but the more we learned about the dynamic between Iris and Jaimie, that's when it clicked.
Make no mistake - this isn't a BDSM dynamic or a D/s one either. It's the type of relationship where a woman knows exactly what she wants, unafraid to tell the man she loves how to please her, and the man more than happy to do so. It's also a story about broken hearts, redemption, second chances, secrets, betrayal and realizing how badly you've screwed up. This made it amongst some of my favorite books of 2017 and i can't wait to find out what's to happen to this couple in the next book.
~~I received a free copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads ~~
As I rated Ms Butler's Thin Love as a 5* read, I was really excited to get this book to review; and delighted that it was the first of a new series.
The book is told with flashbacks, which add an immediacy and a depth to what is unfolding in the present day. They clarify where the music started, and the relationship between Jamie and Iris. That reasons that things went so wrong, and the impact of Iris's mother's revelations, are quite shocking. I had to stop reading at points because it was too intense, and I was worried about just how the story was going to turn next. There are some wonderful details in the writing, which engage the reader and draw them into the story even more. For example - I loved the changing use of terms of affection, which we soon learned meant a lot, or a little.
The Rock Star issues are unexpected, but rather clever. I am also guessing many other book bands will be jealous of the comfortable bus and regular hotel stays!
There are a number of fascinating plots interlinking and still in need of resolution, so I am definitely looking forward to "Beg".
Well Eden Butler has certainly raised the bar with KNEEL. This book was absolutely brilliant. I was unable to put it down, so it travelled everywhere with me. It is a rockstar, second chance at love story, that will hit you with a dart right on the bullseye of your heart.
Emotional from the very beginning, Jamie and Iris's story will most certainly have you frustrated, laughing, sympathising and just shaking your head, with some of the decisions both these characters have made. Told in both current day and with flashbacks to their teen years, the reader is able to discern what events shaped their lives and affected their friendship.
Eden Butler's timing throughout the story was sheer perfection. Never once did she leave her audience wondering what happened during a certain event, or what it's outcome was. The build up of tension and passion was simply sublime - the woman certainly knows how to write, how to keep her reader's attention and how to produce characters of such a high calibre.
An absolute winner in my eyes. Now I cannot wait for BEG to come out. A highly recommended read.
Iris Daine and Jamie Vega were high school sweethearts, until Iris made a mistake that destroyed their relationship. More than ten years later, Jamie is a rock legend… and a caricature of the boy who was her best friend and her everything.
Stardom has changed him, he is the good boy gone bad, a man who has done every dirty thing imaginable . Jamie is contemptuous, dark, brooding and manipulative. He has never forgotten the hurt Iris has inflicted him and is obsessed with revenge. But she is still the topic of his songs. She still matters to him and she sparks his hottest fantasies. And yet he can’t see past the retaliation he needs to exact on her.
Although Iris doesn’t expect to ever earn Jamie’s forgiveness, she feels he owes it to her to grant her an in-depth interview, with real, honest interactions. These two broken souls share the same passion and heartbreak. There is a thin line between love and hate, their relationship was tumultuous and complex. I was cringing at the thought of the angst I was going to suffer watching a separation.
I enjoyed this book immensely! Seductive, dramatic and suspenseful, this book had me on the edge of my seat, my emotions running deep. I loved how the characters were introduced, with flashbacks to their past. I’m so excited for the next book especially with what happened at the end.
I received an advanced copy of this book from the author and voluntarily reviewed it.
Kneel by Eden Butler is the first book in the God of Rock series.
Jamie Vega and Iris Daine are best friends and each other's first love. Music is going to get him out of the town they grew up in and NYU is her future. They support each other through everything until something changes and their dreams change direction.
This book is told with the past and present intertwined. Sometimes the flash backs happen almost mid paragraph and it took me a bit to get used to this style of writing. Once I got the cadence down, the story flowed beautifully. There is such emotion and energy, there were times I was holding my breath waiting to see what would happen next.
My favorite quote from the book: "Everyone has a know. It's a fingerprint of the heart, something made for you alone."
I wish I could wave a magic wand and download book 2 already.
I was hooked from the very first introduction to Iris and Jamie. This was a book I just could not put down, with its raw emotions, unexpected twists and fabulous character development.
The story flowed beautifully with an excellent balance of present and past flashbacks giving the reader background to the characters profiles. It built the tension perfectly which had me guessing what twist would be happening next. I was a little hesitant on reading another rock god romance, but I’m so glad I did. This blew all my expectations out of the water!! I can’t wait to read the next book “Beg” to see how the story of two soulmates, who make so many mistakes in trying to hurt each other, ends. The release of Beg can’t come soon enough.
This is the 1st book in what is going to be a totally awesome series, and is Jamie aka “Dash”, and Iris’s story. These two were soulmates, until the unthinkable happened and ripped them both apart. Now 10 years later, they are both living the lives that they have always wanted. This story is told in present and flashbacks to the past. This is a heart-warming, emotional, gritty, raw, powerful, dark and twisted storyline, which is all consuming from the very beginning. Hats off to Eden for a phenomenal story, and in my opinion; her best work to date! This author has certainly given her all to this story, and as far as I am concerned, the 5 star rating is just does not give this novel the justice it deserves. A big whopping 10 would be better! I highly recommend this authors’ work for all lovers of second chance love stories, and cannot wait to read the next book in this series! Truly brilliant Eden!! I voluntarily reviewed and advanced copy of this book!
Kneel by Eden Butler is the first book in the God of Rock Series. Meet Iris Daine and Jamie Vega. They were friends at school, loved both the same misic and later on became more. Now they hate each other. Now, years later, Jamie is Dash Justice, a rock star and Iris became a reporter. There is bad blood between them, one feels betrayed, the other´s career gets destroyed . What can I say- What for a ride !! There is so much drama, every time I thought I had a grip on the story, there was the next unexpected twist and turn, hurt characters and ultimative betrayal. Kneel is a addictive, captivating read that kept me at the edge of my seat. I can´t wait to get my hands on the next book, Beg. I give 5 stars and say thank you, Eden Butler !
I devoured this book. I seriously could not stop reading it. It's sexy and pulled me in from page one.
If you love second chance romance and rocker romance well this is the book to read. Kneel will bring an all new meaning to a love/hate relationship. But its one you will fall hard for and be left begging for the next book Beg.
There is so much heartbreak, history and just everything between Iris and Jamie that you wonder how they are going to be able to work their way back to one another. Is it even possible? LOVED THIS BOOK!!!
*I received a free copy to read and review for wicked reads review team*
I enjoyed the book, there is a lot of times that back and forth in time confuses me however this book needed it to understand the whole story between these two characters. Iris and Jamie's (Dash) story is actually heart breaking the more you read through, but you can understand all the other emotions that come from them too.. The way this book ended the next book should be a good one and I can't wait for it.
Friends bonded by music. Love forged from friendship. Hearts bound by words.
But sometimes love isn’t enough. And now those things that once were, are no more.
Or are they?
Kneel is the story of Dash Justice, super sexy rock god, and Iris Daine, the journalist about to receive the brunt of his ire, when he makes their private relationship, very, *very* public.
But the past isn’t always in the past, and sometimes the secrets we keep do more harm than good.
Can Dash and Iris find their way back to the people they once were, and recover the love they once had? Or will their hurt and anger win?
It took me a little while to wrap my head around the "then" and "now" - but Lord! Once you get it all figured out, let the anxiety begin!! This book has ALL the feels. Anger. Anxiety. HOT. Sexy. Sweet. And so much more!
I can't wait for the second book. Sure hope it doesn't take too long!
