EM TAYLOR brings you an amazing new series of Regency stories based on the fairy tales you loved as a child.
Young ladies of good breeding do not kiss gentlemen in their bed chambers even if they have been asleep for three weeks. One would think Lady Emily would know that. One would think Lady Emily would not have entered Lord Beattie’s bed chamber alone. One would have thought that kissing the handsome viscount would have been the last thing she would have done. But kiss him she did. And that was when the apothecary walked in. All of which meant she had to marry Lord Beattie.
Why the silly little chit had kissed him when he’d been out cold for three weeks, the Lord alone knew. And now Gideon, Viscount Beattie had to marry the outspoken little minx. But there was something a little charming about her. The problem was, her uncle was after his hide, the peasants were revolting – in the rioting sense, not in the disgusting sense – and he really needed to procure some grain from up north. He may as well kill two birds with one stone and elope with the interesting, frustrating, irritating and thoroughly delightful Lady Emily – soon to be Viscountess Beattie. It would be an interesting journey.
AUTHOR’S NOTE: This book has no magic in it. While loosely based on a fairy tale, the story is gender swapped and there is no paranormal happenings.
I've read most of Em Taylors work and she's one of the only regency authors I read. Like all of her other regency stories, Lord Beattie is light hearted, funny in places, and well written. You can tell the author likes writing this genre. At the beginning, I didn't think I was going to like Lady Emily, but once the story really started I warmed to her. She was quite entertaining. It is an enjoyable read if you like regency books.
Charming, feel-good and sexy Regency Romance If you fancy an entertaining and charming Regency Romance then look no further than Sleeping Lord Beattie, the first book in a new series of books by Em Taylor based on the retelling of well- known fairy tales. Sleeping Lord Beattie (Sleeping Beauty with a role reversal) is set during the cold winter of 1815-16, which is threatening to cause unrest and upheaval in the country due to the poor harvest. Gideon, Viscount Beattie, suffers a head injury and has lain asleep for weeks. His sister Sophie, fearing that her beloved brother is not long for this mortal realm, invites Emily her friend to visit for moral support. Except that Emily goes above and beyond providing her friend with moral support… It is not long before the fun and mayhem begin! Emily is drawn to the bedside of the sleeping lord and on a whim kisses him, her impulsive action awakening the sleeping Viscount! However, her actions are witnessed and Emily is compromised and risks ruination. it is fortunate that Gideon, a gentleman through and through (although a damn sexy one to boot) does the honourable thing and proposes to this woman whom he has never seen before… The scene is set for a hugely enjoyable romp with a super hero and heroine. I loved the unconventional character of Emily – she is so unlike the sensible and simpering misses that frequent many a Regency Romance. Outspoken, clumsy and accident-prone her family despairs that she will ever find a suitor. And Gideon – he is soon drawn to the strange chit who had the temerity to kiss him. He finds her increasingly more fascinating, and as they are thrown together he has his work cut out to keep her wayward actions and thoughts in line without compromising her more fully! I enjoyed their sexual tension, their banter and the humour that this writer injects into her stories, as well as the sexy lovemaking scenes! The tale, which also contains scandalised relatives (including an angry uncle), an elopement and desperate highwaymen, is an absolute pleasure to read and I recommed it to fans of the genre.
Who wouldn’t want to kiss a totally dreamy man while he sleeps? This is my first book by this author and, I totally had fun with this book. It was a short fun read.
Emily awakens the handsome Lord Beatty with a kiss. She is an absolute innocent character but, she does have her flaws by speaking out of turn and she is a bit clumsy. But she is quite the interesting character. Her being with Gideon was quite fun. She doesn’t have much faith in herself. She can be shy and thinks down about herself.
Gideon was asleep because of an accident he had. Right now his home country is suffering with the reins and there is no crops and everything is breaking down. He has an accident that causes him to lose consciousness for three weeks until Emily kisses him. Now he has to marry herBecause of the scandalous act that they were caught doing. On the journey, he learns more about her and she learns more about him.
And then the couple set off to Scotland to get married secretly. It’s a little adventure with them exploring their bodies and it can get quite steamy. We also learn a little about each other. They sometimes head into danger.
So the story is a little like sleeping beauty but with a steamy twist and the man being asleep. It was quite fun. I do wish it was a bit longer. But I had fun with it!
This is an amazing take on a fairy tale that I absolutely love! I really liked the reversed roles in this and that it wasn't full of fairy tale fluff. From the moment she kissed him I knew it was going to be a fun read. They are not your typical couple and are more real and relatable. I loved how they were learning about each other and that they both spoke their minds. I held my breath when they got to her brother's, but loved the talking to he got from Gideon and how he was afterward. I loved the ending and the part at the ball really left me interested for more.
Emily is a favorite of mine! She is very outspoken and as curious as can be, but she also is very self-conscious. Both things make her very real and relatable. I loved her right away because of how outspoken she was and that she asked the questions that worried her. She needed him to raise her up and treat her the way she deserved.
Gideon can come off as a brute and rough at times, but he really has a kind heart and keeps his word. I loved how he would answer her questions and wanted her to know she was perfect to him. He would do anything to protect her and prove to her that she was special.
Sleeping Lord Beattie was originally published in November of 2017, as book one in a series. I found it quite by accident while surfing Amazon for interesting books. Having never read any of Em Taylor's work before I was intrigued by her premise of a "contrary fairy tale". I'm glad I took a chance as I enjoyed the story and plan to read more of Ms Taylor's stories. I feel I should warn you that this book is intended for adult readers, it's not nasty by any means, but may be too much information for young readers.
Gideon, Viscount Beattie, is injured in an accident on his estate and is unconscious (read out like a light) for 3 weeks. No one is sure if he'll ever wake up. His sister, Sophia, asks her good friend, Lady Emily Beresford, to visit and keep her company during this trying time. Emily is an on-the-shelf 23 year old, nicknamed Lady Clumsy during her first season. While helping take care of Gideon, Emily remembers a fairy tale about a sleeping girl wakened by a kiss. So she kisses him and gets caught. The good news is Gideon does wake up, the bad news is that strangers must marry. It's a fun take on a classic tale. As this is a romance there is a happily ever after, we demand them don't we? Happy reading.
Absolutely charming! What a refreshing book to read, in fact, I'm looking forward to this whole series now that I've read this one. Nicely written, entertaining, light-hearted and different. The author captures the Regency period very well and I really did feel I was back there in 'the year with no summer' - full of rain and gloom and hungry people.
Also, Em Taylor would have to be one of only a handful of authors writing stories in her own homeland, another plus, because she has everything about the UK captured perfectly - including the character's speech and etiquette - and the H/h actually travel many days in their carriage to get anywhere significant. Yes there's lots of 'steam' and romance in this book and written beautifully as well. You can feel the attraction between Emily and Gideon from the beginning. 4.5 stars!
From the beginning of the book I was intrigued as to how the story was going to play out given that there is a slight take on a well known fairy tale. In my opinion it worked perfectly, Emily wakens Gideon with a kiss and this sets them off in a path that neither of them expected they would have to take. Coach travel, highwaymen and brothers threatening to commit murder were only a few of the situations that the couple found themselves in. Brilliant 5 star book and I can't wait to read more of The Contrary Fairy Tales by this author.
A wonderful, lighthearted romantic tale based on the popular fairytale Sleeping Beauty (with a role reversal). I’m a big fan or regency romance, it’s a joy to read how people lived all those years ago and the struggles they had to face. It can also be quite comical reading about the confusion of things we mostly take for granted these days, like what happens on your wedding night. I really enjoyed this book, it was a nice, easy read and thoroughly entertaining. I will definitely read more books by Em Taylor and would recommend it to anyone who enjoys historical romance.
This is a retelling of the fairytale, Sleeping Beauty. It is well done and clever and I love all the twists to this story. I enjoyed Emily and Gideon' s story very much! They squabble a lot and I found myself smiling quite a bit throughout the book. Emily seems a bit silly at times but is a very likeable heroine. Gideon is a very charming and memorable hero. The story held my attention pretty much from the beginning, right to the very end. Well worth the read.
It has been quite a while since the author has written a Regency book and with the first book in this new series, she really does not disappoint at all. She has come back with a bang and more! It is like she has never stopped writing Regency at all! This new take on fairy tales makes it even more of a fantastic story as it works so well. I really cannot wait for book 2.
I’m not usually a fan of regency romances, but this book was absolutely delightful. Delightful because when it is complete it leaves you with a smile and a warm heart. The book has humor thrown in that helps make these characters more relatable. Gideon and Emily were easily likeable and the tension was built between the two until it leapt off the pages. I highly recommend this book.
My first book by this author, not my usual read however it was quite enjoyable. A reverse role sleeping beauty tale, Lady Emily a shy innocent self deprecating character awakens her “prince” - Viscount Gideon Beattie from a long sleep. Likeable characters embarking on a new relationship. A very easy to read short story.
5stars from the beginning this was so FUNNY ! Em was a riot! Lord Beattie was so informative! This is going to be a series. I can't wait for more. I can't stop smiling after reading this!
A bodice ripper with a difference. À lady who has reached her 5th season and remains unmarried, feels sure she is destined to spinsterhood when on a mercy visit to a friend is caught in a delicate situation with Lord Beatie.
A sweet romance commences when Lady Emily kisses an unconscious Lord Beattie. This is a delightful, quick read story with old fashioned English. Once I had started this story, I cancelled my plans for the day, stayed in bed and read it until the end.
This story is set back in time and the humour the author uses to highlight the erotic parts is totally hilarious. It tell the story of a female who doesn't Adhere to social norms of the era. A must read.
This book is a very clever twist on a popular fairytale. It begins with socially awkward Emily awakening an unconcious Gideon with a kiss and then finds them on a long coach journey filled with adventure and highwaymen.
A brilliant start to a new series from tnis author, I cant wait for book 2.
