રામ મોરી એ ગુજરાતના ટૂંકી વાર્તા લેખક, પટકથા લેખક અને કટારલેખક છે, જેઓ મુખ્યત્વે સૌરાષ્ટ્રના ગ્રામીણ જીવનને દર્શાવતી ટૂંકી વાર્તાઓ માટે જાણીતા છે.

ભાવગર જિલ્લાના પાલીતાણા તાલુકાના લાખાવાડ ગામમાં એક ખેડૂત પરિવારમાં જન્મ.. તેમણે ફેબ્રિકેશન એન્જિનિયરિંગમાં પોતાનો અભ્યાસ પૂરો કર્યો છે. તેમણે 17 વર્ષની ઉંમરે ટૂંકી વાર્તાઓ લખવાનું શરૂ કર્યું. તેમની વાર્તાઓ ‘શબ્દસૃષ્ટિ’, ‘નવનીત સમર્પણ’, ‘એતદ્’,’ તથાપિ’ અને ‘શબ્દસર’ જેવા ગુજરાતી સાહિત્યિક સામાયિકોમાં પ્રકાશિત થઈ છે.

તેમણે પહેલા TV9 ગુજરાત સાથે કામ કર્યું અને પછી કલર્સ ગુજરાતીમાં જોડાયા. તેઓ વિજયગીરી ફિલ્મસ્ સાથે પણ કામ કરે છે. તેમણે દિવ્ય ભાસ્કરમાં સાપ્તાહિક કલમ ‘મુકામ વાર્તા’ અને મુંબઇ સમાચારમાં ‘ધ કન્ફેશન બોક્સ’ લખી હતી. તેમણે ગુજરાતી મેગેઝિન ‘કોકટેલ જિંદગી’ અને ‘#We’, ફુલછાબમાં ‘લવ યુ જિંદગી’ જેવી કટારો લખી છે. અમદાવાદની નેશનલ ઇન્સ્ટિટ્યૂટ ઑફ માસ કમ્યુનિકેશન એન્ડ જર્નાલિઝમમાં તેઓ મુલાકાતી શિક્ષક તરીકે ફરજ બજાવી ચૂક્યા છે. 2016માં તેમનો વાર્તાસંગ્રહ ‘મહોતું’ પ્રકાશિત થયો, જેને રઘુવીર ચૌધરી અને કિરીટ દુધાત સહિતના ગુજરાતી લેખકો અને વિવેચકો દ્વારા વખાણવામાં આવ્યો.

વિજયગીરી બાવા દ્વારા દિગ્દર્શિત ગુજરાતી ફિલ્મ ‘મોન્ટુની બીટ્ટુ’ થી તેમણે ગુજરાતી સિનેમામાં પદાર્પણ કર્યું. ‘મોન્ટુની બીટ્ટુ’ પછી તેમણે બે ગુજરાતી ફિલ્મો લખી હતી. દર્શન અશ્વિન ત્રિવેદી દ્વારા નિર્દેશિત ‘મારા પપ્પા સુપરહીરો’ અને વિજયગીરી બાવા દ્વારા દિગ્દર્શિત ‘એકવીસમું ટિફિન.

દિલ્હી સાહિત્ય અકાદમી દ્વારા તેમને 2016માં ઑલ ઇન્ડિયન યંગ રાઇટર્સ મીટમાં આમંત્રણ અપાયું હતું. ‘મહોતું’ પુસ્તકને ‘સાહિત્ય અકાદમી’નો ‘યુવા પુરસ્કાર’ (2017) પ્રાપ્ત થયો હતો. તેમને નાનાભાઇ જેબલિયા સ્મૃતિ સાહિત્ય પુરસ્કાર (2017) પણ મળ્યો. ગુજરાત સાહિત્ય અકાદમી તરફથી તેમને તેમના પુસ્તક ‘મહોતું’ માટે વર્ષ 2016માં ત્રીજું ઇનામ મળ્યું હતું.

સ્ત્રીઓ વિશેની, ગામડામાં કેન્દ્રિત, ગુજરાતી વાર્તાઓ.
જો આટલું કહું, તો તમારા મગજમાં શું આવે એ મને સારી પેઠે ખબર છે. પણ ના ! રામ મોરી ની મહોતું, એવો વાર્તાસંગ્રહ નથી. એની વાર્તા નાયિકા ગામમાં રહે છે, પણ વાતો દીપિકા અને ઐશ ની કરે છે, ટીવી પર સિરિયલો જોવે છે, ભણે છે, પોતાના માટે બોલી શકે છે, જાતીય સતામણી સામે ખુલી શકે છે, પોતાનામાં થતા હોર્મોનલ ફેરફાર માટે ખુલી ને બોલે છે - ભલે ને બહેનપણી સાથે. ગામ ની ના હોય, અને શહેરની ગૂંગળામણમાં વસતી હોય, તો પણ તે પોતાનું અસ્તિત્વ જાળવે છે.
હા, પણ હજી એ પૂરી સ્વતંત્ર થઇ નથી - અને એ બધા જ દબાવ, સદીઓ જૂની સમાજ રચના સામે જુજે છે. અને એમ કરતા, એ ક્યાંય ખોવાઈ જાય છે, પોતાના અસ્તિત્વ ના લીસોટા પણ છોડ્યા વગર.

રામનું લખેલું આ બીજું પુસ્તક મેં ઉઠાવ્યું. અને એણે મને હલબલાવી નાખ્યો ! પ્રસ્તાવના થી લઇ ને છેલ્લી વાર્તા ના છેલ્લા પાના સુધી, જકડી રાખે છે એ તમારી લાગણીઓને. ટાઇટલ સ્ટોરી - મહોતું, જો તમને હલાવે નહીં, તો આગળ - બળતરા, નાથી, સારા દિ અને વાવ - તમે તાકી રહો શબ્દો સામે. શું બોલવું એ ખબર જ ના પડે, એવી ફીલિંગ્સ થઇ આવે આ વાર્તાઓ જીવીને. (હા, વાંચીને, ઇસ એન અંડરસ્ટેટમેન્ટ). 'વાવ' - ઓહ માય ગોડ ! રૂંવાડા ઉભા કરી દે છે આ વાર્તા ! કેવી વાક્યરચના ! કેવી થીમ ! કેવું કનકલુઝન ! અતિશયોક્તિ માટે માફી, પણ અહીં ગદ્યનો પ્રવાહ એવી રીતે ચાલે છે કે જાણે ઓરહાન પામુકનું પ્રોઝ ! અસ્ખલિત, melancholy થી ભરેલું. બીજી બાજુ, શહેરી, મધ્યમવર્ગીય સ્ત્રી ના રંગ - એકવીસમું ટિફિન, હલ્લો ભાનુમતી, એ તો છે જ તેવા, હવડ, ગરમાળો - ઊફ. શું રંગો ઝીલ્યાં છે મોરી એ ! જાણે આંખ આગળ ભજવાઈ રહ્યું હોય, સાચે માં - તમારી અને મારી આસપાસની મહિલાઓ, કે જે કાઢી નાખે છે આખો જન્મારો, ચાર દીવાલ ની વચ્ચે !

શું હિંમત, લેખકની. એ વાત કરે છે મેરિટલ રેપની, ડોમેસ્ટિક વાયોલન્સની, સેક્સુઅલ ફ્રીડમની, પહેલની, જાતીય બળજબરી અને ઉછળતા હોર્મોન્સ ની ! નથી કોઈ છોછલાવેડા કે શરમ. બિન્દાસ, બેધડક કલામ.વાહ મોરી ! આહ મોરી ! તું આમ જ લખતો જા. બનીને શ્વાસ અને અવાજ, હજારો ભાવુડી, નાથી, વિદિશા, મંજુ નો.


Gujarati stories about women, centered in villages.

If I say so, I know very well what comes to your mind. But no! Mahotu of Ram Mori, is not just another collection of stories. His women live in the village, but talks of Deepika and Ash, watches serials on TV, goes to school and college, can speak for herself, can speak out against sexual harassment, speaks openly for hormonal changes in herself - even if with sisterhood. Even when she does not belong to a village, and lives in a suffocating city, she still survives.Yes, but she is not yet fully independent - and all the pressure is on the centuries-old society, patriarchy is eating her up. And while doing so, she is lost somewhere, without even leaving traces of her own existence.

I picked up this second book written by Ram. And it shook me! From the preface to the last page of the last story, it keeps you hooked. If the title Story - Mahotu, doesn't move you, then - Balatra, Nathi, Sara Di and Vaav - You stare at the words while you finish them. Clueless what to say, such feelings come from living these stories. (Yes, using the word 'reading', is an understatement). 'Vaav' - Oh my God! This story gets you goosebumps! What a prose! What a theme! What a conclusion! Sorry for the exaggeration, but the flow of prose here reminded me of Orhan Pamuk! Fluent, full of melancholy. On the other hand, the colors of the urban, middle-class woman - Ekvismu Tiffin, Hello Bhanumati, E to chhe j teva, Havad, Garmalo- Ufff. What colors are captured. As if it is played in front of you - of and by the women around you and me, who spend the whole life, between the four walls!

What courage, author. he talks about marital rape, domestic violence, sexual freedom, sexual coercion and hormonal imbalance! No shame or embarrassment. Bindaas. Mori! You keep writing like this. Being breath and voice of thousands of Bhavudi, Nathi, Vidisha, Manju out there.

Salutes and bear hugs to this awesome man. There cannot be an amazing debut in the literary world better than this. What a prose, what a style. This man can make you cry, leaves you awestruck with his stories which are full of colors of life.
Being a Kathiwadi person, I was able to relate myself more to his stories which were written in my native language.
Once again salute to this rising star of Gujarati Literature. Hats off RAM MORI.

૨૨ વર્ષ જેટલી અત્યંત નાની વયમાં રામ મોરીનો આ વાર્તાસંગ્રહ 'મહોતું' સાહિત્ય અકાદમી દ્વારા પુરસ્કૃત છે.

આ નવલિકા સંગ્રહ માં કુલ ૧૪ વાર્તાઓ છે જે દરેક સ્ત્રી પાત્રને કેન્દ્રસ્થાને રાખી ,સ્ત્રીના જ શબ્દોમાં રજૂ થઈ છે.આ વાર્તાસંગ્રહમાં એક પછી એક ગ્રામ્ય અને શહેરી વાર્તાઓ રાખવામાં આવી છે.

રોજ બરોજ ના જીવનમાં નારી સંઘર્ષ અને તેના મનનો જાણે અરીસો એટલે મહોતું!સ્ત્રી ગામની હોઈ કે મહાનગરની, અભણ હોઈ કે સુશિક્ષિત હોઈ તેના મગજના અને વિચારોનું પ્રતિબિંબ રામ મોરી એ આબાદ ઝીલ્યું છે.એક પુરુષ તરીકે રામ મોરી એ જે સ્ત્રીના સંદર્ભથી વાર્તા લખી છે એ વખાણવા લાયક છે.

દરેક વાર્તા વાચકને લાગણીશીલ કરી નાખે છે.વાર્તા વાંચતા એ સ્ત્રીનું સુંદર શબ્દચિત્ર વાચક જાતે પણ અનુભવી શકે છે.દરેક વાર્તા એક અલગ રસ અને લાગણીનો અનુભવ કરાવે છે.ભીતરમાં ધરબાયેલા ખૂબ ઊંડા એવા ભાવોને આ વાર્તાઓ દ્વારા સપાટી પર લાવવામાં આવ્યા છે.લેખકનું આજુબાજુના જનજીવન નું અવલોકન આ નવલિકાઓને જીવંત બનાવે છે.

આ સંગ્રહની મારી પ્રિય વાર્તાઓ 'મહોતું' ,'વાવ' અને એકવીસમું ટિફિન ' છે.

Having worked with Raam Mori in a magazine way before Mahotu was published, I can vouch that everyone who knew Raam was certain that he will make it big in near future. The guy managed to do it at the mere age of 22.

History shows evidence that many senior acclaimed male writers have failed to write from the point of view of a female character. Raam took this challenge to another level when he wrote all 14 of his stories in the female POV. Gracefully portraying the complex emotions of different women, belonging to different social backgrounds, economics classes, and geographical areas, these stories serve a variety of plots and flavors taking readers to unknown journeys and land at a perfect spot.

One of my friends, who himself is a writer, told me the success behind Raam's writing. He said: while we spend 2 hours of the day reading literature and writing drafts and 22 hours for other things, Raam spends 22 hours of the day reading and writing and 2 hours for other stuff. I wish him all the best for his upcoming endeavours.

It is a combination of short stories with the main center character as a female in all short stories.
Stories about their dreams wishes the problems they face in their daily routine life the way men treat them like they are animals n all that. Even if it is written by a man writer it's quite gud that may b v all women can relate to them.
Worth a read for evey woman once in a time.

અદ્ભુત, રામ મોરી એ ફક્ત સ્ત્રીઓની વ્યથા કે વેદના જ નહીં, પરંતુ સ્ત્રીઓના આંતરમન ને આલેખ્યુ છે. બધી જ વાર્તાઓ હૃદય સ્પર્શી છે, શહેર અને ગામડાની પૃષ્ઠભૂમિ ની પ્રથા , માન્યતાઓ ને આબેહૂબ ઝીલવામા આવી છે.....
