This book is about a little boy named Ted whose parent keeps calling for bedtime. Each time, he says not yet…then the reader must lift the flap to find out why. From brushing his teeth with a crocodile, to get the wiggles out with a kangaroo. Finally Ted settles into bed with his stuffed animals, that are suspiciously like his playmates from his bedtime excuses.

This is a darling book with a lot of imagination. Its short and fun to read with a child who can lift the flap to discover what Ted is up to. The cover is bright and appealing and so are all the illustrations. There isn’t a real educational component so a pre-k classroom might pass on this one and leave it for a read at home before bed with parents kind of story.

This board book portrays a familiar problem: a resistant snoozer, Ted. It benefits from several clever additions. The text is entirely dialogue, with a repetitive directive from offstage: "Bedtime, Ted!" and brown-skinned, knit-capped Ted offering a familiar excuse. Each right-side page unfolds to show the excuse in comical portrayals with unexpected friends- alligator, penguins, kangaroo, etc. Use of simple rhyming text, brightly colored but soft-edged elements on pale backgrounds, and the interactive folds all lend appeal. The final fold-out reveals that Ted's friends are his stuffed toys and they are all-- finally-- snuggled into sleep.
The interactivity of the book will be engaging and fun, but may undermine the purpose of a bedtime book, to calm down and become drowsy. Consider this as one for the first of several bedtime board books in a handy stack, moving on to more soothing selections to get eyelids to droop.

We borrowed this from our local library and chose it mainly for its bedtime theme and the use of lovely bright colours. It was also at this point that I noticed the little caption "big flaps for little hands" and thought maybe this would be more interactive for Leo (5mo) than other flip flap books have been and this proved to be right.

Leo absolutely loved being able to help with the reading process. He has been able to turn pages of some board books and the flaps in Bedtime with Ted were very similar in size and thickness which helped massively.

I liked that Ted had to make adventures out of activities that we do before bed (e.g. having a bath, brushing teeth) and suspect that this may be a book that we will revisit as Leo enters toddlerhood and we begin to teach him about bedtime routines.

Bedtime, Ted is a delightful, brightly colored book with nice big full-page flaps my toddler can enjoy. Each page shows an off-screen parent saying it's time for bed, and on each page Ted has some reason he's not ready yet (bathtime, brushing teeth, etc.) But when you lift the flap you see that each activity Ted has turned into an adventure with one of his animal friends (penguins, crocodiles, etc.)! When Ted finally goes to bed, there are all his (stuffed) animal friends in bed with him too :-)

This is a cute bedtime story for young children. The main character, Ted, is being called to bed but he wants to do a few things before eventually heading to bed. I really like the pages in this book because they are fun for children to open up since each time you flip the page, it unfolds to three pages.

Ted can't go to bed! He is too busy splashing with some penguins, brushing his teeth with a crocodile, drinking milk with a tiger, and more. Fun fold out pages show why Ted simply can't sleep. Most revealed actions would be easy to mimic during a storytime.

It's bedtime for Ted but he's not ready yet!
He has to do some of the steps in his routine with the help of some animal friends!
I like how there aren't flaps but instead fold out pages.
Very sturdy.
My toddler loves it.
