This story is about a rookie researcher, who was forcefully dragged away from his restful life, compelled into facing various killers and zombies, always having to risk his life at the brink of death, and finally becoming an advanced researcher that is acclaimed by all. And throughout his adventure, he met an alluring(?) killing machine, who he started to have fantasies on after they had an accidental kiss…
I am halfway and this story is really captivating and thrilling keeping me glued to it. I am feeling myself on a roller coaster going with the characters ( Xiao Yan, Heine Burton, Maya, Reeve, Mark, Winn, Jane Wallace, Gordon, Sharon, Jessica, Casey). The tension going between them feels very real, reading every line and trying to imagine it was very nerve- wrecking for me. In reality, I feel like I am watching this happening in real before me. Those who are a fan of these type of stories will agree with me. Please read it once.
The character and relationship development is well thought out, not too rushed and not too slow. The Story is well paced with a believable ending. The plot twists in this novel are amazing. Tension between the characters are very realistic and really pull me in. I would have liked to see just a bit more background on Heine though, as he is an important character in the story. Really do reccomend this to people who like BL but like angst and dystopian future genres as well.
Everything about it is very interesting. Tho i feel like sometimes mc is too invisible, but at least other times he's really close to death. The only thing I didn't like is the first papapa scene not gonna lie. Because it's borderline r*pe for me. Being forceful is never sexy.
Al inicio la historia es entretenida pero luego todo se vuelve predecible. El ML es una tremenda poronga. Los villanos son completamente esperados. No la recomiendo en absoluto. Ni siquiera las escenas +18 son buenas
Okay so wow!! This is one of my favourite Zombie Apocalypse novels (ughhh I love love itt) I love how the world building was done in such an incredible way, with an epic lot with one of the best character development have seen! I loved how gentle their interactions were!! (yeah I know!), gentle in the sense how tenderly and slowly their relationship developed, the way they understood each other slowly and how Heine was there to guide him, there were time that it would feel like that Heine was patronising, indifferent but I'd differ because no! Heine was gentle, considerate, supportive and encouraging so much that Xiao Yan, not that Yan's growth is just due to Heine but I totally believe that he played a very supportive and encouraging role! Some of Heine's actions seemed crazy/ dark and wrong but but... keep in mind that he got that virus and also he's a soldier and it's apocalypse which just has a way of removing the cover of proprietary & civility, and highlighting the negative emotions so to behave in a crazy way if you got a deadline and all that... and yeah Heine was crazy 🤣 but I love him okayyy!! I think all of it depends upon perspective and subjective opinion so no harm if you don't like it. I loved that fact that the relationship despite all the power imbalance and all seemed highly equal and both of them were strong, with strong opinions, sentiments and motivations. And the fact that Xiao Yan didn't see Heine's feelings or the fact that he's quite oblivious emotionally (Because if his conditions and everything he didn't feel extremely s*upid or naive- I'm not saying he wasn't but oh the way he grew!) , like man lived in his own bubble, very ordinary and having one friend what can you expect from him?! 😂 Over-all, A really fun apocalyptic novel that I absolutely totally adore with solid plot, world-building with great depth and fun cast of characters!!
“We can be afraid of death because no matter how much we fear for it, it will fall upon us someday. However, we mustn’t have the seedling of guilt buried within our heart, as it will outgrow our forbearance one day and overshadows the rest of our lives. Something that is more unbearable than death.”
I actually genuinely hated this novel. I really don’t want to elaborate on that but i will vaguely say some shit.
So I only read this bc i genuinely liked the zombie arc in QWTFOTD and someone mentioned this novel is similar to that. The first translator did a really good job it was really good. the second translator i think was editing the MTL. for some reason a lot of the second translators posts were down. so i just started reading the MTL (which is actually pretty easy to understand compared to other novels. but bc i was reading the MTL and i genuinely don’t ever really do that I still got confused a lot. This book has a lot of r*pe in it. Which i didn’t actually realize at first bc of reading the MTL and i’m just generally dumb. Wasn’t until i read through the spoiler thread that i realized what was going on. it really put a bad taste in my mouth. Mostly bc i had been reading it for a while and didn’t realize they were all r*pe scenes.
i really liked the authors other novel Heartbeat at the Tip of the Tongue. but this is nothing like that. if u really liked that book i don’t recommend this one at all. i actually don’t recommend this book to anyone for any reason but if you are interested in this specifically bc of the author or bc of the zombie arc in QWTFOTD i say don’t waste your time.
on one hand i don’t want to post the quote at the top bc i don’t want you to be fooled into thinking this novel is in anyway good or profound or whatever. but i copied that quote down and started a review in my notes at the very beginning of the novel when i had false hope it would be good. but i deleted all of it bc it wasn’t good. what i had written was my hopes for the novel and where i thought it was going but it didn’t even slightly go there. it’s a very surface level bad novel. the couple isn’t cute, the fight scenes are boring, the twists aren’t surprises, the plot is messy, and the majority of characters are unlikable.
Rating: 5/5- Action packed, clever and fast paced, save for a silly amnesiac plotline (unnecessary). I still loved this!
This was my first zombie apocalypse novel and I loved everything about the futuristic sci-fi world! I never understood how the ML even started liking the MC- it was never clarified. But once he started liking the MC I was down for the ride.
Don’t take this story too seriously if you want to enjoy it (there’s some weird dynamics happening in this sci-fi realm). Rather join the ride and experience it at face value-especially for the interesting story outside of the relationship.
The side characters were a definite highlight, and I’m a sucker for strong, intelligent and self-sufficient ukes and Xiao Yan catered to that need. I genuinely enjoyed the dynamic with the ML and MC after all the weird subconscious infiltration was out of the way.
Meh, no me gustó, y eso que tiene de mis elementos favoritos en las novelas (acción, apocalipsis, gays)... It wasn't enough 🙅
The chemistry between the MC and ML is no joke. I dont usually read a book for its romance aspect but this one did it so well I couldn't help it, its so intense.
Damn, this was good! Fluff, smut, angst were all present and was pretty much in appropriate amount to my liking.
Love the progress and growth of MC and I can't get enough of a loving and cold ML.
The relationships in this novel was really complex/ progressive which made it interesting. There were also many twists and turns which made it exciting (though one of it was predictable due to little bits and spoilers by the author 🤣)
I really appreciate and loved reading the progress of this novel. Would definitely stick with me for a while.
This book had me hooked! I really loved the plot, including the whole world building and suspence it left me with! The action this story delivered was fun and I liked that the main character was strong, smart and could keep up with the male lead, even though that guy was way over powered.
The romance in this book was hot, BUT VERY QUESTIONABLE... so I would only recommend it if you're okay with black flag characters (a lot of scenes felt very dubcon, but since it's fiction I chose to ignore it..shame on me).
I get why this story divides opinions, but I had a fun time reading it!
