The Blacksmith Legacy #2

Billy Blacksmith: The Hellforged

Rate this book

Billy Blacksmith is growing stronger with the demonic blood saturating his veins, but he's not prepared for the impending demonic incursion to the universe—and he knows it. When his demon mentor, Seth, insists he find an ancient hellforged weapon that could help protect his friends, Billy risks his life—and his crappy summer job—to track it down.

Being the biggest hitch to the Demon Gods' plans for conquering reality sucks.

The fate of the Universe hinges on 15-year-old Billy in this exciting, coming of age story about friendship and 20-foot-tall demonic snake-centaurs. Billy Blacksmith: The Hellforged is book Two in a fantastic new fantasy book series. Exciting, good book for teens and kids ages 11-70.

This book was a true surprise and complete delight. I was charmed by the first in the series, but in Billy Blacksmith's second book: The Hellforged, I was thrown into a deep, well-designed mythology that structures Billy's life and existence. Plus, Aesop, the small tremanchen, totally charmed me. "He's a cuddler."

Billy is searching for an ancient weapon, forged from hell itself, in order to battle the demons that are threatening to break the Threshold. We get to see more variety of demonic creatures: cockroach demons, snake-centaurs, enormous riding pug monster things, and cuddly demonhounds, which was really fun.

Author Ben Ireland is an artisan when it comes to world building. I couldn't believe how the book took such craft in intertwining the folklore and the modern day, masterfully woven and cleverly presented. The kind of word magic that makes me envious of the author's mind. There are still so many details that ignite my curiosity that I'm sure will unfold in the next books.

The last few chapters blew me way with its visual creativity, a demonic Thunderdome-type realm fight, ending with a car chase right out of Mad Max.

Ireland's playful language and seriously intense imagination places this as one of my favorites. The series has sunk its hooks in me, much like Harry Potter did. And it's so fun to follow a good character trying to do valiant things.

Billy Blacksmith: The Hell Forged – what a fun read. Here’s just a little of the dialogue that made this book such a delight -

Theron, King of the Spider Kingdom: Today, Blacksmith, I will restore the honor of all spiderkine. I will bathe in your blood and wash away my humiliation.

Billy: Well, yo mama is so fat, she has sixteen legs.

Boom! Perfect comeback!

Billy Blacksmith may be public enemy number one in the demon world, but he’s still got plenty of attitude! He survived the first major wave of demon hordes and destroyed the gate of the underworld, but he (and all humankind) are not out of the woods yet. Not with every hound in hell screaming for his blood! But he’s far from defeated. He has demon blood, too, after all. Plus some amazing allies – Seth, Ash-Lea, Greyson, and (least of all) Aesop, his new puppy-sized spider friend, who likes to cuddle on his shoulder. Plus the whole Blouin family, who are in a class by themselves! And there’s a mystical, demon-defeating weapon, if he can just figure out where to find it.

Enter Mr. Fingers, the baddest baddy in the history of hell. And of course, he still has the worst foster parents ever!

What an entertaining read! The action scenes are so well written you feel a part of them, the characters are well defined, and the story keeps you on the edge of your seat page after page. The plot has been so well crafted that you catch yourself thinking, “Ah, hah! So, that’s the reason that (fill in the blank) . . ." Little by little, we’re coming to know the real story of Billy Blacksmith.

This was a thoroughly delightful, charming (as far as demons go), and exciting read! A fantastic sequel! I most HIGHLY recommend this book!

This book had a fantastic finale and set the stage for more books so well. I'll be looking forward to the next books. There is a lot of foreshadowing that hints at some epic Human vs. Demon action to com. The author is also putting together a really epic lore. This series is shaping up to be an epic fantasy adventure set in modern Salt Lake, UT.
