***Newly edited and re-released edition***

Sagely has no idea that supernatural beings exist, let alone that she's in danger from a powerful dark warlock. That is, until she’s attacked and mortally wounded. That tips her off pretty quick.

Luckily for her, a sexy warlock from the nearby coven saves her life by transferring some of his magic to her. Not so luckily, the "gifted" magic turns Sagely into a witch herself. The magical powers aren't bad, and the fact that she gets to choose a collective of supernatural men to protect her has a certain appeal. But being a witch is not all brews and broomsticks. Magic comes with deadly consequences, especially for someone who has just a *bit* of trouble controlling her impulses.

Just when Sagely gets a handle on her magic, the unthinkable happens. The coven discovers the legendary art of void magic locked inside Sagely. And suddenly, every supernatural creature in the world wants a piece of her.

***This is a slow-burn Reverse Harem series of FULL-LENGTH novels set in the 80's, suitable for ages 16+.

If you're more of a OTP (one true partner) kind of reader, you might try my Girl Among Wolves trilogy, set in the same world, in modern times.

When I first heard of this book I knew I wanted to read it, it has a great cover and it just sounded so fun. Once it released I bought my copy and dived in soon afterward. Magic of the Void was a fun read. Once I started I wanted to keep reading and while I had a bunch of small issues with this book as well, for the most part I really enjoyed it and am looking forward to the next book. It had an addictive feel and plot was well written and well paced.

Magic of the Void follows the story of Sagely, who gets attacked one night and someone saves her. After which she becomes a witch because of the magic this guy gave her to save her life. She then gets introduced to the world of the paranormal, learns how to become a witch and discovers she has void magic. And there's more going on as well. The pace and plot was really well done and it kept my attention.

This book was alternating very refreshing and unique and other times it was full of clichés and I couldn't help roll my eyes at times. It was a weird combination. There were parts that read very well and other parts that read a bit less smoothly. It took me a while to get used to the author's writing style, but once I got used to that, reading went smoother. The story was very addictive and compelling and I just wanted to know what would happen next.

Another issue I had was how especially at the start it felt at times like small pieces of information were missing that would have things read more smoothly. It wasn't really confusing, but more like it felt that these little points of information or explanations were missing that would've made it all make more sense. As the book progressed this happened less often, but still now and then. I also felt that the characters and side characters resorted a bit too often to violence, while a simple talk could've easily resolved things. There also was a scene with violence toward the animal familiars, which made me a bit uncomfortable.

Sagely was a nice enough main character, although I never full connected with her. My main issue with her is that I never full felt like we got into her head and emotions as much as I would like. There is this scene she does something shocking and it id described so dry and off. It was hard to get a handle on what she was feeling at times and she could feel a bit cold because of that at times. There were also some moments were her actions got on my nerves a bit, like at the start when she has no control over her magic yet and puts herself in danger twice in a row.

My other issue was that the whole strong independent female character characteristic was a tad overdone in her personality. It was almost like she was too afraid to be seen as weak and I personally didn't like how far she went in that, fending off comfort and endangering herself multiple times because she insisted on doing something a certain way. But there were also parts about her that I liked, like how she was a bit surprised at how the witches handled everything, but also open minded. Like the whole collective thing for example. At first she seemed to find it a bit strange, but eventually she did seem to grow a bit more open toward the idea.

We meet quite some side characters in this book, but I had could easily remember who was who most of the time. Which was done well as each character had their own quirks or characteristics with which I could remember them. On the other hand the large cast of characters did make it hard to really get to know them. There were some characters that acted pretty immature at first, which annoyed me, especially when they almost revealed magic to the whole world because of some bickering. There were also some decisions that didn't quite see wise or where the character reacted a bit too hot headed. But there are also some interesting side characters that I hope to read more of.

There is a bit of romance as well, I liked the balance between the romance and plot. While the romance was important, the focus did stay on the plot and I felt like that worked well in this novel. I liked Quill well enough, although I never fully felt the romance between him and Sagely. There was a time skip in the book at some point and I felt like their romance and magic knowledge progressed int hat time, but the reader isn't aware of what exactly happened there.

This book is one of my first ventures into the Reverse Harem genre. I thought it was a good introduction to the genre, with the focus on the plot, but an important romance side plot. And for the most part of this book Sagely only has one love interest. I guessed correctly who the second member of her collective would be and at the end of the book she has two people in her collective. I am curious to see how that will develop in book 2, especially because of the direction the book took toward the end. I have the feeling we're going to see more of her second guy in book 2 and I am looking forward to get to know him a bit better and see how this whole collective thing works.

The world building was well done. I liked the more unique touches like the void magic and the school were the students trained. Although I had hoped to learn a bit more about the magic. At the end I still felt like I new very little about how it all worked. We also get a hint of what more is out there in the world, but the focus mostly stays on the witches and I hope we get to see more of the other supernatural types in future books.

To summarize: Magic of the Void was a fun and enjoyable book and once I started I wanted to keep reading. The plot is at times very refreshing and cliché at other points, but the story is compelling and kept my attention. I had a bunch of smaller issues with the book that prevented me from fully enjoying it, like some character actions, some cliché parts or scenes and how at times it felt like I missed these small bits of information that would make the story flow better. I liked Sagely well enough, although I found that she went a bit too far with the whole strong and independent characteristic at times. Quill was a nice enough character, but I never fully felt their romance. I liked how the reverse harem aspect was handled and hope to see more of how the second guy and how the whole collective thing works in book 2. The world building was done well, although I felt like I still knew little of how the magic worked and I hope to learn more about the world in book 2. But despite some of the issues I had, overall it was still a good read and I had fun reading this one. I have to admit I am curious about book 2 and plan to continue the series.

That was painful. I don't even know where to begin. Get ready for my ranting.

Let's start with the Plot. On her way back from the park, some random truck run Sagely off the road. Like that wasn't bad enough, the driver of the truck then proceeded to beat the shit out of Sagely and tried to slit her throat. Sagely was saved by a stranger who healed her wounds with magic. But in result some of his magic transferred itself to Sagely.
There are several things wrong here. First of all, Sagely did not even question who attacked her or why. She just wrote it off as some random act of violence, which is so completely stupid. When she later found out that (surprise!) it was not a random attack Sagely was actually baffled. Ugh
Then there was the Writing. In my opinion, the book was badly written. The pacing was very slow and I couldn't no matter how much I tried make myself focus on what was going on (and there was a lot! So much, in fact, that all of it made a complete mess out of things). Nothing was properly explained. “Witches are polyamorous,” he said, as if she should know this. ” Every fact was presented as if the reader should already be aware of it. Like, all of the witches were appalled when Sagely killed someone in order to protect the coven, because using "dark" magic is forbidden. But how the hell is she supposed to know which magic is dark and whether or not it's forbidden? No one told her any of the rules, but everyone expected her to follow them!
Also, all of the scenes appeared as though they did not serve any purpose to the story. Like, you can take any of the scenes out and it won't change a thing! You wouldn't even notice that something is wrong. None of them mattered.
The characters. First of all, I don't like neither Sagely, nor Quill. Sagely was simply a combination of every heroine ever written (a virgin, her parents were killed, raised in a foster care, abused as a child blah blah). Plus, Sagely never questioned anything. Like, She knows that there is a history between Quill and Riana, but she never bothered to ask Quill about it. She just became jealous and mean.
Quill just rubbed me the wrong way.
The relationship. I absolutely did not like the way RH works here. The guys (all two of them) don't really get along. Quill is constantly jealous. Plus, they expect her to have different homes with each of her chosen guy. Like a separate life with a separate husband. That does not work for me.

So, as you can clearly see, I did not like this story. Nothing here worked for me and I have absolutely no intention of reading the next book.

This was a story that, sadly, didn't live up to the intriguing blurb. First off, the double spacing means more pages, but fewer words than expected for the page count--so this is a fast read. I never really grew to like the charaters. I found Quill somewhat weak for all his purported strength in magic, and Sagely came across as rude in her efforts to maintain her autonomy. I didn't like the faeries (or Fox) and there was a lack of character development for any of the secondary characters. I also didn't care that these early-20s protagonists were reverting back to high school drama. I purposely avoid teen angst books for this very reason-- on top of this was the author's efforts into what the gals were wearing. *sigh* The writing wasn't bad, I simply didn't enjoy the immaturity of the characters. There is no sexual tension, which you'd expect for a reverse-harem novel. Only a couple typos, I'm happy to report, so the reading experience was good.

i would have liked it if wasn't for the characters esp the main heroine. it was unusual for me to not back up unconventional characters or anti-heroes/anti-heroines but this one just didn't do it for me. now, i guessed the author was trying for the badass or bleeding heart type but sagely just came off as someone selfish and bothersome. the rest of the characters are questionable as in 'what do i have to do with you'

The story is not yet in the stage where one could definitely say whether it's good or bad. Anyway, the only thing this had going for me, aside the reverse harem factor, was the writing. If I were to ignore the characters, which was a total pita, i could like the whole thing.

So yeah, though I had been negative so far, I would really like to see if the sequel would be better. and if sagely would tone down all that rudeness.

Dnf @ 73%. It's not the worst book I've read, I made it more than 50% after all. It just feels as if the author has a lot to work on when it comes to, well... everything regarding characters and character interactions. Like the roommate and good friend Annie that we don't see and hear from past chapter 1. The main character, Sagely, doesn't give her a single thought which is pretty weird for someone so adamant about saying goodbye and honoring her old life and friends.

I didn't feel any chemistry between Sagely and Quill either, making some of the drama quite awkward and unnecessary in my eyes. However, you can tell the author has a lot of brilliant and unique ideas along with a wide imagination. I really enjoyed her take on magic and the world she introduced us to. The plot wasn't really bad either. I believe the author will improve and blossom the more she continues to write.

A hot mess

Sagely is human, and the tiny bit of world building that we get indicates that humans have zero knowledge of magic...... so why does it take under 24 hours for her to just accept and master parts of it? Why are the culture references from the 80's with language terms from the 2000's and no idea what year it is in the book? Why does Quill and the coven immediately expect Sagely to know the rules of magic and witches on day one? Why do all of the interactions between Quill and Sagely sound like they were written by a 12 year old?

I'm adding this author to my "Do not read" list.

A normal afternoon at the beach, playing frisbee with her roommate, a chance collision with a gorgeous jogger; Sagely couldn't know that her life was about to change forever. She's deliberately run off the road on her way home, and then attacked and left for dead. The gorgeous jogger, Quill, saves her with magic, transferring some of his magic into her. When she awakens, she finds herself in a coven surrounded by a world of magic that she never knew existed. There's plenty of positives here. She has Magic! She is part of a coven. As a foster child, having a family means a great deal to her. And as a witch she gets to pick out her own Collective, a group of "husbands". There are negatives. Sagely has her own previously unknown magic, void magic. It's ancient and has mostly been used for darkness, chaos, and destruction. When others learn of her magic, it incites fear and anger. Enemies try to capture or kill her and the dark wizard Viziri is after her to claim it for himself. Without meaning to Sagely has upset the balance of the paranormal world. Witches are dying, the fae and shifters are attacking. Sagely is overwhelmed in this new life. Every new day brings more information, new dangers, more chaos. The only person she can truly rely on seems to be Quill and maybe, just maybe a dangerous fae, Fox.

I enjoyed Magic of the Void. I liked Sagely. She's intelligent, fiery, and strong. At times I would have liked her to be a bit more sympathetic. I understand that she's overwhelmed, I just felt that at times her emotions were misdirected. Too hard on Quill, too attracted to Fox. I loved Quill. He's everything a hero should be. I was not a fan of Fox. I can't understand being attracted to someone I can't trust or who tries to kill me. The side characters were a mixed bag. Raina, Shaneesha, Eli, and Willow. All are nicely developed, but each time I thought that Sagely was developing a closer bond with one, it would go sideways. I want her to have a close friend or two in the paranormal world. I also want more distance between Quill and Raina. Recent Exes are not acceptable friends.

The storyline is full of action, plenty of twists and turns. Danger, suspense, and a hint of romance. There's good world-building and back-story. I love the familiars. I think that there's potential here for an interesting "relationship".

I am conflicted about the ending. I know that the author states up front that this is a slow-building Reverse Harem and I am okay with that, but a separation was not what I had in mind. Still, I look forward to more of this adventure and can't wait to meet more characters.

I read this book a while ok and remembered thinking it was ok but I couldn't really remember the story. So I decided to go back and skim through it and remind myself. And I hated it. To the point that I'm not sure how I finished it the first time because it had so many of my pet peeve's. All of these characters were just a bunch of whiney spoiled brats. They all talk down to each other because they all think they are the smartest and most talented and it was clear this was believed to be mature behavior. I just hated Sagely...and Raina...and Quill...and every other character whose names I can't remember.

I don't like to be this mean about a book but honestly this just really wasn't my cup of tea at all.

Firstly, I love the cover and the synopsis intrigued me so I wanted to read this novel. This is the first Reverse Harem genre book that I have read and won't be the last. The world building descriptions and settings are well detailed. A paranormal romance brimming with danger, magic, suspense, plot twists & a bit of romance. Sagely, Quill's, & Fox's character's along with the supporting character's are well seasoned. Fae's, Shifters, Witches, & Warlocks, along with dark & void magic intricately intertwined into a unrivaled plot. The writing style fits perfectly with genre. I am looking forward to reading book two in the series. I volunteerily reviewed an advanced reading copy of this novel.

Incredible book

I almost never give a book five stars but this one was incredible, quite possibly the best witch story I've ever read.

I really liked the authors take on magic and how she portrayed covens.

My only complaint about the book, and it's actually not a big deal, is I wish there was more detail about the characters, how they came to be who and where they are. From reading other series from this author I'm sure there will be more details about them in the following books.

There was an unexpected twist near the end about who the dark wizard turned out to be, I really enjoyed that.

This book took me awhile to get into but once I did i was hooked. I liked the world building and most of the characters. ( sometimes quill could be annoying) Sagely was much more understanding and nice then I would have been in her shoes. ( I wouldn't have been so okay with my boyfriend hanging out with his ex in his bedroom no matter how much he claims to love me) Fox was a fun and kind of anti Quill character. Now I am excited to see who else ends up in her collective.

Hmmm....

I enjoyed the book but found the heroine hard to like, and a little selfish. I've met quite a few hard to like leading ladies but I always found something to love about them- their humour, backstory , some redeeming quality. But found the characters to be shadows of some of my fave PNR stories.

A Nice Paranormal YA Story

I enjoyed reading this action filled story about witches, shifters, fairies, and magic. A story about a girl finding a home in a coven and all that happens once she is there. There is definitely a reason to read the next book in this series, because there is much more story to be revealed and I am looking forward to finding out what else happens.

Slow start, great ending

I really enjoyed this book. Especially towards the end. It seemed like it was a little slow in the beginning but it eventually picked on up and was stellar finish

Awesome start

Great start to a new series for me. I loved the concept of this story and could not put it down until I finished. Witches and warlocks in a fight against good and evil and what each of those means to each individual. I want to see more of this world soon.

Not really memorable. I liked Fox but Quill was a bit of a jackass. I liked how strong the MC was but the plot itself was missing something.

A fun, fast-paced fantasy romance with lots of action, some romance, and the beginning of a reverse harem. Loved Fox.
