While this book had some fun exercises and a few helpful tips, I will say that it is not suited for beginners. It skips over explaining the techniques so that you are left without the needed skills to complete any sketch past the first chapter. On top of this, the book's promise of "not skipping steps, like other sketching tutorials" is sadly false. It skips several steps in every sketch, leaving a beginner hopelessly lost. The accompanying pictures to show what your sketch should look like after certain steps does not match the step it is located by, leaving the reader confused if they have missed a step along the way. And the book moves at a fast pace from drawing simple fruit to deep deep waters of detailed human anatomy. All in all, an okay book if it was not for the promise of precise steps and beginner friendly sketches.

I can learn to draw

I had always thought I couldn’t draw had tried but given up because I thought it was only people with a natural ability that could do it. Having read this book and spent many hours trying the examples I amazed myself being able to follow the guides and reproduce not quite as good as the author but acceptable images. Going back over each picture hopefully practice makes perfect. An ideal book to provide confidence for anyone who wants to gain the ability and hunger to draw. Thanks to the author great work.
