Wicked Witches of the Midwest Shorts #11-15
I liked all five of the shorts, but the lack of continuity with this world and narrators truly is irritating.
You Give Witch a Bad Name (Wicked Witches of the Midwest Shorts #11-15)
11) Four Leaf Clover – Read: November 24, 2020
Told from Clove’s POV. A psychic comes to town and gives Clove a lucky coin while a hoodie bandit keeps trying to rob people. Another new female narrator… She did an okay job, but I would still like more continuity instead of a different narrator with every short.
12) Thistle While You Work – Read: November 24-25, 2020
Told from Thistle’s POV. Belinda goes out of town for a class, so the Winchesters take turns taking care of Annie while her mother is gone. When Thistle takes Annie to work with her and the little girl disappears without a trace, the Winchesters rally to find her. Another new female narrator… She did a horrible job with her Thistle voice. Thistle reminds me the most of Aunt Tillie and her attitude and voice should reflect that. The Thistle that this narrator portrayed was nothing like that in tone or voice. It was not a good thing hearing Thistle be normal. Way to normal. Thistle is abrasive. Thistle is obnoxious. Thistle is brash. The Thistle portrayed by this narrator was… Blah Thistle. Milquetoast Thistle. Martyr Thistle. The experience was not palpable in the least.
13) Landon Calling – Read: November 25-26, 2020
Told from Landon’s POV. Takes place after “Murder Most Witchy” (Wicked Witches of the Midwest Mystery #10). Landon’s boss Steve sets up an FBI conference in Hemlock Cove. Though the FBI agents are numerous and spread over 3 different inns, the conference is being held at The Overlook, where the use of all the newest gadgets and techniques will be taught over the week. When the owner of the yarn store goes missing, Landon skips a few demonstrations to help chief Terry track her down. Aunt Tillie gets the best of everyone. Another new male narrator. He did a horrible job. There was very little difference in the character voices, almost no emotional inflections, and lots of awkward pauses at weird times.
14) I Dream of Twila – Read: November 26-27, 2020
Told from Twila’s POV. Another blast from the 15 years ago past. Twila is left in charge over the weekend while Winnie and Marnie attend a class that will teach them how to cook for large groups of people. Twila’s scatterbrain and the fact that none of the teenage Winchesters or Aunt Tillie take her seriously, works against Twila truly managing to be in charge. Add a psychic and a troop of wagoned caravan Renaissance Faire workers, and all heck breaks loose. Another new female narrator. She did an okay job.
15) How Aunt Tillie Stole Christmas – Read: November 27, 2020
Told from Aunt Tillie’s POV. Another blast from the 14 years ago past. Margaret Little tries to deny help from the town to a group of teenagers whose group home burned down not long before Christmas. Aunt Tillie steals back Christmas for many of the boys, including 3 brothers who stay with them. Aunt Tillie and the three teenage Winchesters do everything in their power to make this the best Christmas those three boys have ever had. Another new female narrator. I didn’t like her Aunt Tillie voice at all. Her entire narration sounded like she was talking through her nose. It was not a pleasant experience.
