I was introduced to “When the Moon Split” by a friend during Ramadan and I couldn’t think of a better book to read and reflect upon during the month. It started with the Prophet’s life, his struggles, and his constant dedication to spreading the message of Islam. This book not only provided a detailed depiction of the Prophet’s journey but also shed light on the incredible sacrifices made by him and early Muslims.
It gave a deeper understanding behind the wisdom in every verse, surah, and message in the Quran, why each one was sent for a specific difficulty or time. It pushed me to do a lot of research, which I continue to do as there is always so much to learn! And as usual I will always have deep admiration of the Prophet’s character. Despite the hardships, wars, and mistreatment, his patience, his perseverance, and his heart remained steadfast in kindness and in faith. Even knowing what happens I was still moved by the emotional toll.
Even so, reading about how people during the Prophet’s time also dealt with guilt, ungratefulness, and the constant internal struggles, reminded me of our own humanity. As humans we carry guilt, we feel deeply, and we can sometimes be ungrateful but the people’s constant desire to improve and their gratitude towards god, even when forgiveness was hard, left me with a renewed sense of humility.
Will definitely keep rereading!
