Good book

The first third is not very informative and the author talks about himself mostly. However, SEO should be about us (i.e. his audience). In the second third of the book, the author changes gear and adopts a more practical approach. He gives some valuable advice and links to useful tools. I enjoyed that part the most. The last third is not as hands-on and is quite repetitive, so I didn't get a lot of value from it. He could have cut out 150 pages without much consequences. All in all, the author uses humour effectively and explains the concepts well. Up to you to determine if this is good enough for you. It was ok for me.

Good information

There is some really good information but, I found some of the content to be a little drawn out and ended up skipping some areas because it got slightly annoying. Also, there was a lot of information not relevant to me, but would be relevant to someone just starting out or starting an ecommerce. That being said if you are just starting, get this book! If you have been at it for a bit and can handle going through several pages of things you probably already know but would like to gain a little more knowledge, get this book! Otherwise get something different.

Best book I’ve read so far on the topic of SEO

I’ve quite a few SEO books and taken a few udemy courses on the subject. None came any where close to this book. It cuts to the chase and gives you the most straight forward information relevant to SEO, plus it gives you actionable an blueprint that you can implement from week1 to week 12.

The complimentary video tutorial is far worth more than the book itself. Packed with straight to the point instructions.

Lots of helpful tools and thoughts

There’s a common problem with books about SEO - the core problem is pretty basic and everywhere you look, the answer is also not a rocket science.

What did Will do to earn 5 stars from me then?
- going all the way with logical consequences of basic principles
- showcasing a lot of different tools (or ways of using them) that I - even when familiar and somewhat experienced with SEO - did not know
- cutting the BS around some topics and presenting alternative mental models to think about reasons for doing things one way or another
- the book despite being on point, was also hella fun to read…
- … and on top of that author prepared a lot of helpful extras available online

I found a lot of value here and if you feel like moving ahead with the way you think about SEO - this might be the book to grab.

fantastic

This book was absolutely fantastic. Few people have the ability to take a generally boring and tedious subject and turn it into something fun to read. Hats off to Will Coombe; he’s actually made me quite excited about SEO and I am ready to go learn more.

Every Marketing book should be written like this one.

If you like a book that gives you clear, step by step instructions, this is the one.

Will Coombe gets it right. He clearly knows how to write, and structure compelling content.

Even if SEO will never be your main focus (I know it won’t be for me as I’m more into paid traffic), you will learn skills that will be highly relevant.

Especially with social media there were a few nuggets which will be highly relevant.

Last but not least, his 12 weeks plan on how to get to #1 is worth-pure gold.

This book explained SEO in a simple way; also highlighting the things that don’t work which used to. It has helped me get my website into the top two pages of Google, and I haven’t worked through everything yet.

I also found the book comical at times which gave a nice break to the learning aspect of it.

The pictures contained within the book aren’t that clear, however they are available online.

Great book, needed in our time

I love SEO and am building a business on telling people to stop feeding Facebook and the likes in favour of building their own online profiles. This book is seriously practical and a must read for anyone wondering how to do SEO.

It's a little dated on some of the advice, and I strongly disagree with how Will suggests you use alt tags, but it's a great resource nonetheless.

Will Coombe offers a good spectrum of ideas beyond what to do with your site, but I found the tone and style challenging to stomach. There are some serious issues with this book, including:

1. Simple factual inaccuracies that make you wonder about the validity of other statements
2. Poor-taste jokes steeped in racism, sexism, ableism, and suicide
3. Bad ideas about writing that you should ignore
4. Many of the recommended tools are expensive – suitable only for agencies and larger businesses

Will offers a few "tricks" along the way, including using an ellipsis at the end of your search result descriptions. Later in the book, Will says there are "no tricks" in SEO. I agree with the latter remark.

Here are some examples of problematic statements:

* Coombe states (at least twice) that SERP stands for Search Engine Results Position. Most people say it stands for Search Engine Result Page. This is a trivial detail, perhaps, but the author is positioning themselves as an SEO expert.
* Will talks a bunch about millennials, but I think he means Generation Z. Millennials were born between the early 1980s and about 1996, not around 2000, as stated in the book. Will has the idea that millennials only turned 13 and got their first bank card in 2013.
* There's a peculiar joke about donning latex gloves and using a thermal imaging camera to analyse the crime scene of a link profile. What use does a thermal imaging camera have after the criminal has left the scene?
* A scenario involving a cowboy, an Indian, and a blind person (mega yikes)
* "…just like convicted felons, I simply love short sentences." (yikes)
* "…before I have to talk you down from the ledge or unplug your toaster next to the bath…" (more yikes)
* Addresses the reader as "good sir" (only men read this book?)
* Google Search is variously blind or vision-impaired.
* Use little "teasers" in your writing to make your content "moreish". "Like what? Like asking short questions like, 'like what?', before then going on to answer it." This is a terrible suggestion.
* Be "liberal with…bolding, italics, text-colour" Bold and italics should be used thoughtfully, and Will does not mention the appropriate HTML tags to ensure the formatting offers semantic value for screen readers. Liberal use of text colour is likewise a questionable suggestion.
* Liberal use of exclamation marks (!) in cold outreach emails. Will's example emails are cringe-worthy.

Will Coombe's 3 Months to No. 1 is a straightforward and practical guide to Search Engine Optimization (SEO), specifically aimed at small business owners, bloggers, and marketers who want to increase their website’s visibility on Google. Coombe distills complex SEO strategies into simple, actionable steps that even beginners can understand and apply.

The book is structured in a way that feels like a step-by-step manual. Coombe covers everything from keyword research and on-page SEO to off-page strategies like link building and social media optimization. The title’s promise of reaching Google’s top ranks in three months might sound ambitious, but Coombe emphasizes consistency and hard work, rather than offering any get-quick-results gimmicks.

A standout aspect is the real-life examples and case studies, which make the theory feel applicable and relevant. The chapters are well-organized, starting with foundational concepts and moving into advanced tactics, which makes it a solid read for anyone at any stage of their SEO journey.

While the book’s focus on Google SEO could be limiting to those interested in broader digital marketing approaches, it’s a strong, no-fluff guide that arms readers with the essential knowledge needed to succeed in search engine rankings. This book could be a solid investment if you're looking for a hands-on approach to SEO that doesn’t get bogged down in technical jargon.

I really enjoyed learning from this book!

In a good way. Will does an excellent job of explaining what can be very dense material. The explanations leave nothing in doubt and they accompanying videos make such a big difference. You get to see him demonstrate the practices and techniques he teaches which reinforces the lessons. I`'ve been working with websites and corporate sales and marketing for over 12 years and have yet to find a book or resource on SEO that I learned more from than Will`s book. Plus it's a really enjoyable read. But then again I genuinely enjoy reading and learning about SEO and digital marketing. The 12 week playbook at the end was the icing on the cake. I highly recommend this book. Whether you are someone new to SEO Nd digital marketing or if you've been in this field for 10 years you'll come away with some sound techniques and ideas. Good job Will!

I just finished this book on Kindle & it's excellent. I have a blog called Wedbook & wanted to learn SEO for the same. There was no good guide or book that I found helped me. The information is so scattered. Then I came across Will's book. And it is just amazing. The concepts are explained beautifully and don't go down too deep to bore you out. And I feel that's the beauty of this book. You can go and research a topic if you want to learn about it more! This book just forms a strong basis for SEO. I used its strategy to get one of my blogs to no.1. Go type 'Sabyasachi saree price' in Google & you'll see Wedbook's link there.

However, that was also because I have deep knowledge about my industry which combined with this book's principles has just strengthened it. I LOVE this book & would recommend it to everyone starting a blog or a business! Can't wait to use its strategies further!

Just finished reading this book and found it interesting. However the second half of the book is more informative detailing about the SEO tips, tricks and tools with links and references. However, I still feel that the Book Title is too promising to digest. Just by reading a book you cannot reach the top spot in SERP's, particularly if you do not have any experience in SEO. But yes their are SEO companies, like ROIHigh, that have a proven track record and have been achieving top spots for their clients. But I still feel even the top SEO companies cannot guarantee a top position on Google within 3 months. A lot depends on the niche and competition that one has to face in their Industry.

But bottom line, it's a good book to read. Beginners can learn a lot of new SEO things and can start their own promotions. Anyone interested in learning new SEO concepts can give this book a read.

I have read a lot about SEO online, but most of the information available was promising what seemed to be unrealistic and doubtful ways to rank high on the Google search. One of the premises of this book fights against this promise, but makes much more sense to me: always think as a Google engineer when defining your SEO strategy, never try to trick the big G, and work for the long run progressively building and evaluating your strategy. I'm in the process of implementing all the things learnt in the book, and believe the Blueprint at the end of it will help me to achieve a high rank for my business website. It might take more than 3 months, but I know that with hard work and perseverance I can get to the top search results!

Quick Read With Sound SEO Advice

Will provides a fast yet thorough (and often amusing) look into the world of SEO (aka search engine optimization). Geared toward SEO newbies, the book offers a step by step guide for getting your website optimized for search engine results. In addition to sharing his knowledge gained from ten years working in the field of SEO, Will also provides a lot of useful links to help the reader understand and apply his recommendations. There are also bonus videos that explain subjects found in each chapter. A must read for any small business owner looking to increase their website's visibility on their own or looking to hire an outside firm (without getting taken advantage of).

A lightbulb …

I thought I’d never understand the dark art of SEO. Having read this book once, I still don’t - completely - but in one reading I’ve gained far more knowledge, understanding and confidence than ever before. It was written for me, and I feel ready to follow the blueprint so generously provided, knowing that when I hit an obstacle - something I don’t yet quite understand - I can go back in to this wealth of material and read it again, or watch the corresponding video. Or, as Will so eloquently puts it, Google it! This book is honest, clear in content and intent and, perhaps most important for someone flailing around in the dark just trying to get a foothold on Google, it’s friendly. Highly recommended.

Actionable Detailed Information

The layout of this book made it very easy to digest. There are action steps at the end of each chapter that made it a snap to get into place. I feel a ton more confident about what matters in SEO and what I need to focus on first. I have found that using content marketing for SEO is much more detailed than I realized. I also realized that there were simple things I could do to help my website. But like selling a house without a license, there are tools and industry specific information that should be used. This book has also helped me figure out who I need to hire and what skills they need to have. Highly recommended !!

SEO can be a very intimidating topic for people who have very specific knowledge to share on their website, but are unsure how to optimize their pages. I am knowledgeable about my content area but SEO felt scary to me until I read this book. Will emphasizes actionable steps you can take to improve your pages. He takes the mystery out of everything and makes SEO feel approachable and possible for newbies like me! Thank you, Will, for writing this great book and sharing your wisdom!

This book was very interesting to read, I probably would have benefited first from reading this book before another book I read. This one seems to be simpler and more user friendly. Nevertheless, the blueprint is hopeful. I have to refrain however from totally giving the 5-Star Status, if only because I have yet to apply the blueprint. I will be keeping this book close however as I get closer to preparing my own blog. The book provides plenty of resources beyond the actual book too.

Brilliant book - very happy I bought it!

I was a complete novice and this book has helped me to get my website ranked. I felt overwhelmed by all the information on the internet. However, this book has clarified it all for me. I have emailed the author and he has been really helpful too. Really pleased I bought it and I recommend it to everyone doing their own SEO. Thank you for writing it!

Very well written and easy to read!

I am a keyword research coach and blogger of 4 years so I know quite a bit about SEO but still picked up tips. With that said, it was very well written, humorous, and easy to follow. The added video links were awesome to have as a visual. I only wish there was more help with recipe related SEO as opposed to e-commerce or local listings since I feel that niche is pretty unique.

Currently reading this book as more of a workbook alongside doing my job writing SEO-quality content and have found it very useful to structure my work. I'd suggest, as with almost all 'workbooks' that instead of reading it and putting it down, keep it at your desk as a point of reference when in need of inspiration.

The best SEO book I've read.

So I went full on trying to decipher SEO... Read 3 books in the space of a week and this was by far the best one. Will truly seems to care and wants his reader to do this (SEO) and do it successfully. His sincere and he doesn't believe in taking shortcuts for quick wins. I can highly recommend. You won't be sorry.

The best instructional book I've ever read.

I must admit to being guilty of judging this book by its cover. The cover is naff. Once you turn the page however, the book is literally packed with useful actionable advice that is written in a friendly informative manner. The author not only know his subject matter but he also knows how to write.
Thanks Will.

If you own a business: GET THIS BOOK!

If you are a business owner and want to have a sustainable, long-term online marketing strategy, buy this book, read it, IMPLEMENT it, and you'll get more business by being on page one of Google.

It's not super easy. It's not super quick. But starting a business isn't either. SEO is an investment, not an expense. So invest in your business.

Great overview for CURRENT SEO principles. Basic to understand—requires a LOT of effort to execute, if done well. Haven’t tested it out fully, but it is in congruence with other SEO study. Offers great tools, that are very valuable. I would recommend.
