I went into space looking for my sister... what I found is an alien claiming I'm his.
Five years ago, Earth made contact with the Twenty-Three Tribunal, a government of twenty-three superior alien races that rule over the known universe. Deemed too primitive to protect ourselves, the Tribunal slapped a 'Protected' status on Earth, declaring us off-limits to the more advanced races that would exploit or enslave us.
Someone has been violating the status.
Last year, like so many others before her, my sister Isla disappeared without a trace. And with the Tribunal unwilling or simply unable to help us, I'll do anything, even something really crazy, to get her back.
With the help of my best friend and an alien smuggler I've captured, I've got a crazy plan. A plan that involves a neurotransmitter, a one-way ticket off of Earth, and a very powerful drug that will help me infiltrate an illegal alien slave market.
I expect to be used, abused, and violated in my quest to gather evidence.
What I don't expect is to be captured and claimed by a huge silver alien ...
Sara Page is the Paranormal/Science Fiction alter ego of Contemporary Romance author Izzy Sweet.
Sara Page is a Cincinnati, Ohio gal who loves her football, Cincinnati-style chili, and local ice cream. She writes what she wants to read, steamy science fiction, paranormal and fantasy stories. When she's not writing, Sara is doing her best to keep up with her two boys.
She lives with her two wild children, two fuzzy Shih Tzus and one supportive husband who reads everything she writes.
There's potential here but it is hampered by a lack of decent worldbuilding, poor editing, and a heroine who makes dumb decisions. I wanted to like it.
Yeah I like Alien Smut and I’m so glad I found a new series to love! I love using Kindle Unlimited because I find new authors and this book was trending on my Amazon page and after seeing the cover I had to see what this book was all about.
Lexi is human and her sister has been taken by the aliens! The only thing is, there is more than one kind of alien. I love that this world contains many species of aliens. Some are ugly, some are pretty and some are bad and some are good. You just never know who you will run into.
Maul is an alien and he lives on a different planet. I guess he’s the same as a high ranking solider (if you had to compare him to the human world). He was on a mission and bam he ran into Lexi and well, a lot of stuff happens.
You know when you read a werewolf book and the two main characters meet and bam they imprint? Well, it’s kind of like that with Maul and Lexi and it’s called bonding and it’s totally off the charts steamy! I couldn’t get enough of the two chemistry.
The book is more than the steam, there’s a lot of politics that go into this alien world. Like dying species, and no intermixing of different species and different planets to visit.
I’m looking forward to the next book and I can’t wait to see what new things I will learn.
This is what I’m talking about when I say, “Alien Romance!!!”. I love this book! is hot, sweet, romantic, pack with action, strong h, and great sex. What else can you ask for? Next book please!
This was a fast, engaging sci-fi romance with deep feelings and gritty situations. But the typos are so prolific that at times it was a chore to read. Many words are the wrong tense.
I came at this series backwards and I’m soo glad I did....
I came at this series backwards and I’m soo glad I did.... The other day someone on a group on FB said she was soo tired of TSTL h’s that should be given “Darwin awards” instead of mates or getting to breed, wellll she would have hated Lexi .... I can’t say I hated Lexi but that’s only because her reckless and hopelessly stupid TSTL behavior killed my respect and ability to feel anything for her soo quickly I just couldn’t care enough about her to bother..... Lexi does soooo many things tragically and foolishly wrong it’s honestly kinda disgusting ..... I mean lost sister or not, what kinda idiot let’s someone put untried and untested technology into THEIR brain, and lets an unknown alien get the hopelessly addicted to a drug that makes them numb and craving to live off in their own little bubble where they stay meek and compliant not really caring what happens to themselves .... Aaaaaaaaaaaaaa Hello?!?!?!? She grew up on earth where drugs like that are a plenty, how TSTL is this chick ? Stupid but mainly soo freakin desperate she never seemed to think a damn thing true.... the thing in her brain was supposed to be her back up, that was always a corrupted one but she didn’t know or could she that because she was soo busy becoming a drug addiction her desperation .....
Honestly I just almost feel like her TSTL behavior should have earned her the treatment her sister Isla got, waking up in a testing lab being forced to be apart of a twisted breeding experiment.... I mean if you gonna let an unknown alien get you addicted to a drug that can turn you into an unfeeling vegetable day then let him take you off into space to lord knows where w/out and weapons or seeming skills to defend your self ,I mean seriously .....
Lexi just disgusted me.... Isla wakes up in a testing lab and catches on pretty quickly and with the help of Ryock does damn good for herself and is a freakin genius and could give Sheldon from BBT a run for his money in comparison..... I enjoyed Isla and Ryock soo much I foolishly wanted to see where things started.... For me big mistake, I can recommend Ryock but not this... Too little world building, or plot development and same for characters, Lexi spends the first half of the story being a drugged out moron and having sex w/Maul.... their first two weeks together are just them having sex and her trying to detox off the drug she chose to become addicted to and more sex... After seeing how Lexi was with Maul’s symbiont I thought at some point I’d see their relationship develop here... Nope, just takes him in,no questions asked and he’s apart of her world like furniture or clothes.... They finally make it to his home where evil awaits and they are hurt and abused some and once recovered the barely useful Lexi meets their supreme commander in front of a whole congress or parliament full of aliens and acts like a loud mouthed manner lacking American we all inwardly cringe at when we see us portrayed in movies... In short Lexi was a TSTL moron almost from start to finish, broken by w a y too much sex,you know the amount you start to skip or skim through after a while, and a HUGE bout of narcissism after her life is saved from her foolish decision they have unknown substance placed in her brain, you get to read page after page of her being terrified she’s not “ugly” because a small piece of metal left showing under her hair at the base of her stupid skull 💀.... Stars out of respect for the writers after Ryock but 2 for enjoyment... Read Ryock,it can stand on its own, then if curious and you have KU why not I guess.. That’s all I can say, now I’m off to forget this and move on... Or try Anna Hackett’s gladiator series...
Lexi is determined to infiltrate the off planet slave trade to find her sister, but it thwarted by Maul, who insists they are mates. I was pleasantly surprised by this book and the amount of thought that was obviously put into the plot and the world building. This book was dark, dangerous, and messy but also tender. I like a good fated mate story that has more depth to it than instalove. The instalove was there, but it was complex and meaningful.
Spice: 4/5
Triggers: abduction, slavery, SA, torture, drugging, drug addiction and withdrawal
ARC received for an honest review. This is a great sci-fi adventure novel that just happens to also be an Erotic sci-fi novel with inter species bonding and mating.
🌎Earth is considered to be a primitive planet, and is in an off limits protected status, designated by the Tribunal, a federation of highly advanced, space faring alien species. Slavers are still visiting 🌎Earth and abducting humans, poaching them, even with the supposed protection.
Maul👹🔫🔪 is a warrior and protector for the Tribunal, a warrior of the Red Mask. In his brain, he carries a symbiant, a living creature similar to an AI that is permanently joined to him. Maul is going to a known slave market to document the 🚫illegal sales and holding of protected species, which includes humans. He is something of a lizard man🐊. He's taller than a human, more muscled, faster, stronger, smarter. He's superior in every way to almost every species in their known galaxy. Parts🍌 is Parts🍌!
Lexi💋 is a human woman who is certain her younger sister, Isla, has been taken by 👽Alien slavers. She will do anything to get her back! Her plan is to be fitted with a brain implanted alien made transmitter and translator, and be brought to a slaver, to begin to look for her sister. She is obsessed with finding Isla. The transmitter will keep her in contact with Jack, back on earth, and also record everything and allow her to be tracked. He's a man she grew up with and trusts. In order to act the part of a captured human, she allows herself to become addicted💉 to Serenity, a incapacitating 💉drug used by slavers on human women. Lexi's plan starts to go bad once she is in the slave market. She is put into a special room with other rare and expensive stolen aliens and merchandise.
Maul👹🔫🔪 disguises himself and pays off some guards so he can get into the secret room. He feels the pull of something in the room. It becomes overpowering, he starts to become crazed. When he sees Lexi💋, he realizes she is his bondmate. He starts a huge fight and abducts her from the slavers, after killing some of them. Now they are on the run. They are chased throughout the galaxy by the slavers and by alien assasins hired by Jack to capture her. There are a lot of xxx scenes! Maul👹🔫🔪🍌🌋✋ is an extremely sexual being, and he often uses his constant seductions🍌🌋 of Lexi💋 to distract her from her fears and problems. With their lifelong bond, they can communicate telepathically and each feels the others emotions. YEHAW! Ride em Bareback🍌, Cowgirl!🐎🐎🐎🐎🐎
I received this book in exchange for an honest review.
I have this thing about sci-fi stories and also sci-fi authors. There is just something that draws me in and takes a hold of me. So when I had this opportunity to receive an arc of this book, I decided why not. Boy didn't not disappoint. I love this story from beginning, middle, and the end. Even the epilogue was something that drew me in and screamed to me, "I want more."
This story starts with Lexi, the heroine, going on a mission in order to find her sister. What she doesn't know is that somebody that it won't be as easy as she thinks it will. Maul, the hero, is someone that plays by the rules. There has been many times when I read a Sci-Fi book when the hero or even the heroine is somebody who is on the path of straight and narrow. The hero in the book is who is on the straight and narrow however he is okay with bending it a bit. Not overly so, but just a bit.
There is a lot of drama, action, and of course a bit of sexy times. This is the first book that I have read from Sara Page and Sean Moriarty. I have to say that I need more from these two. I need to know what is next? What is going on with Lexi sister, Isla? Where is she? Why hasn't she tried to contact her sister?
Also I want to meet Maul's mama. She seems like she would just be the best parent ever and all she want is for her son to just be happy and give her grandbabies. She wants her grandbabies and I want to see her play a part and Lexie and Maul's life. I also love, love Marketh. I want to know more about that little guy. I hope that we learn more about him and also his species. There was a twisted I was not expecting in the book and I have to say that I am enjoying that. Nothing was predictable and there are so many times in a romance or even a science fiction book or any book really where the story tends to be predictable however this has kept my interest the entire time and this was definitely not
A lot of confusing typos, grammar flubs and wrong word choices (him instead of her, very confusing in a sex scene). The lack of proofreading ruined the story for me so often that I almost stopped reading.
The plot was ok, the world building made sense and was interesting enough to carry me through to the end. I liked the characters personalities and even the bad guy was interesting and believable. Dialogue was witty and well written. The sex scenes were overdone, which is a surprise . The smuttier the better. I found myself skipping through a few to get to the heart of what they were trying to discuss.
So much potential here. I’m even considering reading the next book, but I’m going to need to read something else first.
5/25/18 I am assured that this book has been edited and the typos are corrected. I may reread it or try another of this author’s books.
I have to say that initially I was intimidated by how detailed and complex the alien world was in this novel. There were so many alien races and politics that I wasn't sure if I would stick with the story. I am so glad I did keep reading! However, the author has created a very detailed world that is almost limitless. Not only were Lexie and Maul a great couple but the success of their bonding sets the stage for plenty more books in this series. This book had everything you could want - action, romance, intrigue and oh yes romance. While this book does stand on its own, the author has already promised the next in the series and I for one will be looking forward to it.
Wow! I freaking loved this! Very detailed with a whole universe of different aliens and planets. The story left me no choice but to devour this book and kept me wondering what was going to happen next. I loved reading about all the different aliens. I loved Maul and Lexi! Lexi was a strong heroine that no matter what kind of situation she was in she never backed down. Maul is everything and more you could ask for in an alpha male......alien. I loved his protectiveness of Lexi. I look forward to Isla's book! I'm hoping we get more of the Rathturians as well.
The H is awesome, strong tall and all for the h. The h is searching for her sister at significant risk to herself, and some of the risk is deeply hidden within. Very fast paced, lots of great aliens, and a HEA. Just what I look for in a scifi fantasy, I loved it.
I have read, well started to read, so many disappointing books in this genre lately that I passed this up several times believing it to be another poorly written and crudely delivered take on science fiction. It is NOT. The plot is robust, exciting, and engrossing. The writing is well thought out, deliciously detailed, and able to pull many emotions out of the reader. The plot twists were on point and even gave me a few surprised wow moments.
The characters were mature, very relatable, and charismatic. All characters were portrayed as intelligent, emotional beings with the bad guys completely believable in their evil. Nothing was over the top, but in line with the potential reality of how humans would rank when compared to more superior alien races. Again, this added to how engrossing the book actually was...you could believe this could happen.
Maul, the hero, was amazing!!! From his personal values to the way he treated Lexi, to his ability to protect her. Lexi was equally amazing. She was grounded, loyal and level headed. No whining...ever. She did the human race, and women, proud lol. Their relationship evolved at a good pace, again, making the situation more accepting/believable. The supporting cast was also well developed and added extra depth to the story. I cared about what happened to them and wanted to know more about them. I'm hoping they all get their own stories.
The ending was great, but had a small cliff hanger for the next installment...it did not detract from this story at all, but added to it. It wasn't the type of cliff hanger that leaves you frustrated, but instead, excited for the next book.
I would definitely recommend this book. It's jam packed with great characters, a ton of action and suspense, and of course, a great story.
Even though Earth is supposed to be a protected planet, thousands of people disappear everyday. One missing person is Lexi's sister Isla and Lexi would do anything to find her. Suspecting her sister has been kidnapped by aliens and sold as a slave, Lexi finds an alien involved in the trade and convinces him to help her find her sister. The best plan is for Lexi to be sold as a slave after some training to resist the most commonly used drug to control human females. She also uses an alien implant to mentally connect her to her childhood friend to have some back-up or evidence in case things go wrong. The time comes and Lexi is sold to a slave seller at a space station. Since Earth is protected, she is being sold underground in the black market. However everything falls to pieces when a huge silver alien goes berzerk and claims her as his. Maul is one of the red mask enforcers whose mission is having him investigate some illegal slave trade. He is one of the unlucky unbonded, someone who is unable to find his mate. He has an AI symbiant who helps him out named Mar. Going to the slave auction is causing unusual reactions in Maul. He and Mar are totally confused with what is happening until Maul spots Lexi and all h@ll breaks out. Maul knows that Lexi is meant to be his bonded even though no-one from his planet has bonded with a being from another planet before. Now he just has to convince Lexi that they are meant to be together. Lexi is drawn to Maul but she has to track down her sister. This is a great story with fantastic world building. There is lots of action and twists and turns. I voluntarily received a copy of this story and this is my honest review.
First in series. First read by both these authors.
After her sister goes missing, kidnapped by aliens, lexi signs up to under go a dangerous mission to get her back. With her mind ‘bonded’ to childhood friend jack... she will allow herself to be put up for slave auction and send images back to jack as evidence that earths ‘protected status’ is being breached.
As Thousands of people are going missing on a daily basis and the tribunal... a collective of 23 different alien races that has promised to help... but from earth and Lexi’s viewpoint they just aren’t doing anything. What the tribunal has actually done... they have sent Forth striped Maul of the red masks and Rathurian race to investigate. Emotionless and unbonded except to his S.I he is the perfect officer to investigate the missing humans.... until he stumbles across lexi a human, slave and his bond mate!
From the moment lexi wakes to find herself at the slave auction... the plan goes out the window... and in walks a silver demon with a rage problem.
This book was a great read, it was fast paced and filled with action, with a few twists and turns that left me gleefully rubbing my hands.
I thought the concept and plot were both interesting and intriguing and found that I devoured this book in one go and from a sci-fi lovers point of view I adored the wise cracking and sassy S.I marketh and the concept of a hero with a simbiont. It was something that I hadn’t stumbled across in all my time of sci fi reading. I felt it was carried out fantastically, especially Mail and lexi were great together ( if a bit serious ) I found Marketh gave much needed comic relief that balance the seriousness perfectly.
I’m looking forward to continuing this series and reading lexi’s sister isla’s Story.
Loving this story arc. Lexi will do anything to find her missing sister Isla, including going to another planet to be bought as a slave while under the influence of a drug called serenity. People are disappearing from earth by the thousands. Earth knows there are other species in space but since they aren't as developed as the ready earth is considered a protected species. That means the rest of the universe won't help them until they get more knowledgeable about space technologies. This was the ruling by the Tribunal which is the leaders of 23 other species joined to govern. Maul is a Rathturian. He is an investigator on his planet. The investigator unit is called Red Masks and they do wear a red mask. They also warranty a black stripe across the mask as they are promoted. Maul is a four-striped red mask. That is as far as you can get without being made royalty and no longer an investigator. Maul is investigating a slave market. He goes under cover and sends a decoy in another direction. When he gets to the market he starts feeling weird. The closer he gets to the slaves, the worse it gets. Until he sees a human in a cage, then he goes on a rampage, killing a lot of slavers. They both seem to go into heat as they escape. Both lusting after the other. The next day Maul informs Lexi that she is his bonded mate. When the had sex they bonded to each other. It is unbreakable. If one dies so does the other along with Mauls symbiote Mar. They have quite a few close calls with death over the course of the book. Lots of betrayals are involved while also making a new ally. Lots of information in this book. I am ready to read the next one about Lexi's sister Isla.
I’ve had this on the back burner for a while and finally decided to jump in with both feet; I am thrilled I did. Craving Maul is fast-paced, exciting and super steamy.
Lexie has been training to go into space to find her sister who was stolen. She is going undercover as a stolen slave and is taking a drug that puts her so far under that she doesn’t realize what is happening to her, but she is still conscious. Maul is a top officer in the police force/military and is looking into allegations of kidnapped humans. When he catches a whiff of Lexie, he goes berserk and tears anything in his path to shreds to get to her.
Lexie’s and Maul’s chemistry, if you can call it that, it was more like a frenzied need to mate, is instantaneous and pretty darn hot. And their connection is so strong it leaves them both in a state of constant arousal, and they cannot be separated.
“This love of ours… it was forced upon us. Neither one of us asked for this. It’s just one great big complication that makes both of our lives harder and pushes the things we want further out of our reach. But even if there was a way to turn it off, to somehow break it. To untangle myself from him. To separate our souls. I couldn’t do it.”
The story was well thought out, and the characters were well developed. The only issue I had was some of the editing was a bit jumbled, and I would have to go back re-read things for it to make sense. Also, conversations between Maul and his symbiosis weren’t always clear who was speaking. It got a bit confusing. Other than that I enjoyed the story, and I hope Page continues with this series. I am giving it 4 Boundless stars.
I really enjoyed this book, I'm just sad the next is not out. I really wanted to dive right in. While there is a insta-love of sorts the characters personalities make up for the gaps of their relationship. I guess just instinctively knowing the one your with is your soul mate would force you to enjoy every moment together and get to truly know one another over time since neither is going anywhere :P
Maul is an awesome hero, he's sweet when needed, a total bad-ass who will break the bones of any man (alien or not) who poses any sort of threat to his mate. I loved his alphaness. Maul is basically bad ass #1 where he's from. At the highest level of military Maul is the best and while on investigation to uncover facts about alien slavery rings he stumbles upon his mate.
Now to start our heroine is also a bad-ass bitch. I mean when we first meet her she's voluntarily doping up on alien drugs (and has been for months) in order to build an immunity so she can slip into the outcast world of slavery herself in hopes she can locate her kidnapped (alien-napped) sister. Let's just say both their plans don't go as planned.
The characters, plot and setting were all well written and interesting. Even though much of the book takes place in space you are still learning tidbits about Maul's planet as well as the Earth Lexi is from. Maul is another Barbarian-esque race of alien and he's an alpha through and through. For the start of a series this was a excellent first book and I cannot wait for the rest to follow. Definitely recommend checking out this alien romance.
When the last member of your family is taken you will do anything, anything, to find them. That's exactly what Lexi does to find Isla, her sister that was kidnapped. Knowing she was taken by aliens to a slave auction, something that should have been forbidden due to Earth's protected status, led to Lexi agreeing to go undercover. That meant months of preparation to fight off the effects of the drug used on the women, a neural implant so she can record and communicate from wherever she's taken, and so much more. All this is to guarantee her safety, or at least her findings if she's killed, so that this ring can be broken and taken apart. But what started as a simple infiltration and retrieval becomes so much more when another alien race that's investigating finds his bonded mate in Lexi. When she's removed from the auction she realizes that there is betrayal going on, from more than one side. But how far does this corruption go? And how many other races are going to see humans as a chance for mates now?
I jumped on this because I love Sara Page's Ravager series. This one is a tad more dark. Lexi undergoes a great deal to infiltrate that auction. It is glossed over but there's understood unwanted touching. The drug, Serenity, only blocks so much. And then there's the the detox from it, too. I like where the series is going, though. And while it's insta-love chemically the main characters still take time to bond emotionally. Which I, as a reader, needed to bond with the characters. Now, when can we expect that sequel?? :)
Craving Maul could have been the typical alien looking for his mate story with the usual copious, graphic, gratuitous, overextended sex scenes and the alien's possessive nature. Thankfully there is more to the story.
Alexus "Lexi" Miller of Earth is looking for her sister Isla who, like many on earth, is being kidnapped and sold into slavery to aliens. Lexi has endured months of training and use of the drug Serenity to rescue her sister. Her handler, Jack Weir, is her friend and confidant, or so she thinks until she learns Jack's true feelings for her are less than platonic, and he will do anything to have her.
Rathturian Fourth-Striped Maul's is head investigator of the Tribunal accompanied by his wise-cracking symbiote, Marketh, working undercover to investigate rumors of illegal activites in the slave market when he goes into a berserker rage. The reason for the rage. Maul realizes the human in the cage is his mate. Once Maul rescues and returns to his ship with Lexi, they ravish each other for a few days before coming up for air, mated. Maul also rescued the two Paxzies who were in the cage with Lexi to return to their home plant (the Paxzies, little blue-bodied giggling masses of annoyance, are the comic relief).
Once back on Rathturia, Maul and Lexi must face the the Tribunal to prove their mating is real. Lexi comes face to face with her nemisis Jack Weir and a violent showdown between the two ensues. Maul and Lexi continue their search for Isla while enjoying their HEA.
I love the imagination, creativity and originality of the authors.
I fell like this book could have been better. I really liked the premise & I enjoyed the characters. However, the majority of the book I was confused about what was going on. The threats and sub-plots weren’t clearly stated or explained. For instance, I still have no idea what Maul & his father were arguing over at the very beginning of the book. Even though it personally frustrates me, I understand keeping things hidden to build on the suspense of the book, but by the end I should know what’s going on. We, as readers, are not told of a resolution to the Earth’s population disappearances. At the very end, it is hinted that Jack had something to do with all the disappearances, but who was he working with & why? Is the whole bureau corrupt or just him? Why did he sell off her sister? His character was killed off too quickly! We needed more answers out of him! There were hints that the Tribunal was corrupt throughout the book, but then that was just dropped at the end. So what happens to the humans? Does their protective status get dropped? Do they form allies? What happened to all the humans who vanished? Where are they? Who the fuck is M’cra or whoever & why did he run away?!?!? So many unanswered questions!!! Perhaps they will be answered in subsequent books, but their are entirely too many open ends for the end of a book! A few (as in less than five- as long as two or more are minor) is the limit for loose/open ends I’ll allow.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
I enjoyed this book, especially the hero, Maul. He’s an intriguing alien male. He’s all silver with scales, teeth and claws. What’s not to love? He’s sexy and powerful, incredibly ferocious when anything comes between him and his bonded (Lexi).
Lexi is our heroine, and though most of the book, especially toward the beginning, she drugged up and high on Serenity. Other than her need to find her sister, we don’t really get to see and experience much of her in action. I think she could have been a kick-butt heroine if she had more time to grow outside la-la-land...and the bed. Because that’s where Maul seems to keep her. Haha!
We’re introduced to Lexi’s friend, Jack, in the beginning. I was SO glad that he stopped what he was doing with Lexi when he was testing her (Don’t want to give anything away), but was later disappointed and wondered why he did stop. He cares for her. More than cares. But…again, don’t want to give anything away. I’m just a little disappointed.
Now Yarrel! I’m VERY interested in him. He didn’t have much ‘screen’ time, but the little bit we were given had me hooked on him. I’m really hoping he gets a book of his own cause…I want to read more about him and he needs a HEA, too!
Overall, I enjoyed this book. There were a couple slow moments, but there is also some action. It’s a great series beginning.
I received an Advance Reader Copy for Craving Maul (Star Joined Book 1) written by Sara Page and Sean Moriarty and voluntarily reviewed this book. The governing body ruling over Earth is the Twenty-Three Tribunal, but somehow, men, women and children are disappearing from Earth, including Lexi’s Miller's sister, Isla. Lexi hatches a desperate plan at great personal cost to find her, placing herself directly into the illegal slave trade, armed only with a confiscated brain implant to communicate evidence with her best friend Jack, help from an alien who has slave-trade resources, and a trial resistance to a drug used to control human females.
Maul is Rathturian and an enforcer with the Red Masks, a fourth-striped bearer of Justice. While conducting an investigation at a known slave market, he happens upon Lexi, and he is instantly drawn to her and feels the immediate attraction to her as his bonded mate. But cross-species bonding is unheard of, and it is a rare and irreplaceable kind of bond.
This is merely the start to a series of twists and turns in an engaging storyline, with great world building and alien characters. I will keep an eye out for the next story in this series!
I enjoyed this book. I didn't think I was at first, but I did. I'm a little confused as to what Lexi was training for when she learned about the project for locating the stolen humans. Was she training to be an agent of some sort? She didn't have any specific skill set. Even though Maul could channel his strength to her she never exhibited any certain battle skills. She was literally a damsel in distress. So, she bounces a port attached for uploading and downloading information but it's never used. Perhaps a bit more story building for Yarrell would've been nice. Like, what was he doing when he got caught? And in saying that, she (Lexi) is who caught Yarrell so, what was her job at that time? A lot of unknowns with this story. I still enjoyed it. Maybe with the next story the authors will put more work into the characters and build them up a bit more.
I feel as if we lost a lot of the story by not having an Prologue to give us the back story. I'm not a writer, I just know what I like see on paper. I really liked the High Admiral. His story would be great to hear at some point in time. I can even see this book and perhaps their future books as an audible fully dramatized book with the sound effects.
Lexi needs to find her sister, Isla and she will do anything to find her. Anything. Even be sold as a pleasure slave to find her in space. It's illegal to poach human's but someone is doing it. With the help of an illegal alien and her BFF she is going to find her sister. Only things don't turn out that easily. Lexi ends up meeting Maul, her bonded and through everything they stand together to face everything.
Maul gave up finding his bonded mate. He needed to find who was stealing the human's and spreading them through the universe. Then he meets her, Lexi, a human, who makes his blood soar. She's the one, she's his bonded mate. Their bond is so strong, being apart tears at them. He cannot be without his fragile human, who he will protect until the end of time.
This is a face paced book and a good book. I loved that Lexi is a fighter and not willing to give up searching for her sister. She keeps her eye on the ball at all times. Even when Maul is around. One thing I would have liked to have read was a meeting between Lexi and Maul's mom! OMG! That would have been GREAT. There is lots of action and world building. Some of the aliens you'll meet are quite unique, I'm looking forward to their books.
This puts a whole new spin on "fated mate". Lexi is willing to do anything to find her missing sister. So she decides to infiltrate a slave market hoping to get info on the slave women taken. As part of her training she has to gain a high tolerance to a drug used by the slavers. Now she's drugged and in a cage with two other females waiting to be sold. Maul is part of an elite group that polices planet policies. He is on the same planet to gain information on the illegal slave trade. He's not even in sight of Lexi when the mate bond hits him and he goes berserk. From there, everything goes crazy. On top of everything else, the two females with Lexi are entranced by Maul and Lexi's jealousy is funny. They have to fight their way back to his home planet and endure betrayal from both sides. They end up with an unexpected ally that saves Lexi's life and gets them home. Once there, the betrayal continues and they both face death when they are separated. Everything that is put before them they somehow overcome. Is their love enough or will Lexi still risk everything to find her sister? I can't wait for Book 2. I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.
