Throughout his career as a professional football player, Félix has been deeply in love with his best friend and teammate Max. However, fear of rejection and condemnation has kept him from admitting his feelings for the man, and when a few too many drinks leads to a night of passion, Félix finds himself pregnant with Max’s child.
Although he tries to keep their daughter a secret from her father as well as the rest of the world, the truth inevitably comes to light and Félix realizes just that how deeply he has hurt the man he loves.
OK, so obviously there's some work to be done getting around the text, but if you're willing to do that work, this is an interesting story, the kind of story that can only exist in an mpreg universe. Felix's motivations for keeping the baby a secret weren't as fleshed out as they could have been (i.e. the intense stigma against fertile males he was brought up with), but the reconciliation felt believable and the story as a whole was actually pretty adorable. Something this author did really well were the little one-off sentences to show the passage of time, as in during Felix's labor or coming up to the baby's first birthday. The touch there was light, precise, and revealed just enough to advance the narrative without overdoing it.
Some people are going to disagree, but I really liked this one. Refreshing!
This book has so much potential. The story is very touching, emotional and down to earth if you can work around the grammar. Needs editing but the story is good.
