You're to Blame

Rate this book
Duke Anderson has never been part of my plan.
His touch is unapologetic.
When he says my name it sounds like a lifeline.
None of that matters though.

I ignore my feelings, as if nothing has changed.

With my world turned upside down, I find myself leaning into him.
We keep secrets.
We torture ourselves through our attraction.
We blame each other.

I don’t know what I'm doing or who I am anymore.
All I know is I don't want him to ever stop looking at me like he is right now.

You're to Blame is a standalone novel.

Lindsey Iler is a new author to me and You’re To Blame was book that sucked me in.

This starts off angsty and somewhat heart breaking. Charlotte is going through quite an ordeal and I couldn’t help but feel for her. The situation she is in was sad and the circumstance surrounding her visits to the hospital pulled at my heart strings.

Quite early on you can tell that something isn’t up to par. Your not sure what is going on but there is definitely something that doesn’t sit right and Lindsey does a great job of keeping you on pins and needles waiting to find out pieces of the story you know you are missing.

Enter Duke and well he comes off a bit crass and at first it’s hard to know for sure if he’s a good guy or a bad guy. He has a bit of danger to him. But as the story continues I absolutely fell for him. His protectiveness, his loyalty to those he cares for was something that I loved.

These two have chemistry and as they fight that attraction to one another you get to see them build a relationship and I found myself wanting these two together so badly even when the circumstances felt like they shouldn’t be.

Great storyline, characters that you find yourself rooting for. I will definitely check out more books by Lindsey.

I’m a fan of this authors work and I can’t believe I’m rating her book a 3. This story started out at 5 stars.

Charlotte had so much going on at such a young age. The things she were going thru were so sad. She was almost the perfect girlfriend to Jacob. When he got injured she literally stopped living and everything was him until she met Duke in the most unexpected way.

When Duke first saw Charlotte he thought she was the most gorgeous girl he’d ever seen until he recognized her and knew she was the girlfriend of his fraternity brother.

They were not the friendliest to each other but then things started changing. They never crossed the line and it was cute reading how close they were getting. But they were so many secrets that it seems everyone knew about except for Charlotte.

Duke and Charlotte tried their hardest to not cross the line but at one point it was inevitable. But still things weren’t peachy.

When secrets started revealing and the way these things were handled I was sooooo disappointed. I expected a better outcome. And the epilogue I could’ve gone without reading. But without all that excess unnecessary “HEA” the story was good.

"He's one thunderstorm, I'm willing to sit through." ... Oh, yeah.

First, let's just look at this cover for a minute or twenty.... SIGH. (YES, the book IS as good as the cover!)

Lindsey is a new author to me, and she has a fantastic writing style. YOU'RE TO BLAME is sexy, angsty, everything I love about young romance. The push-pull of wanting someone you "shouldn't" be with and then finding out truths that change everything... Ahhh!!! So hot.

YTB is a sizzling opposites-attract romance that will interfere w/your life--lol! I seriously wished I could just drop everything and do nothing but get lost in Duke and Charlotte's world...

Don't miss this FIVE STAR read!!!!

I liked this book, I just won't be calling it my favorite anytime soon.

Charlotte was going through a lot. Her boyfriend was in a coma at the hospital, she still had school and her internship. She wasn't really living, she was just existing. She was exhausted. She wanted to please everyone around her even if it meant she wasn't being true to herself.
When the Matthews look at me, they see perfection, a girl worthy of their precious son. What if sometimes I don't want to be that girl? Being worthy of someone isn't the problem. It's the flawless version they see through rose tinted glases that haunt me.

I liked Charlotte as a main character. It felt like she was carrying the weight of the world on her shoulders and you just want to jump through the pages and help her out.  She didn't just give into the tension between her and Duke right away and MAN was there tension between them.

Being with Duke, connected to him, would be like driving down the highway in the wrong direction. It's exhilarating, sure, but you take the risk at a crash and burn.

Duke was great, he really wanted to do the right thing by Charlotte and Jacob. He struggled with his feelings for Charlotte and him thinking that he wasn't good enough for her. I enjoyed seeing his character grow in this book.

There was a bit of mystery in this book. You know things are not what they seem and that there are secrets but can't put your finger on it. The author does a great job at keeping you on your toes.

The reason I couldn't give it 5 stars was because when the secrets and plot twists started coming out I was so freakin' letdown. Everything could have been done so differently.

All in all, it was a good book. There was forbidden romance, mystery, and great characters.

Lindsey Iler has freaking done it again. I can’t help but fall so freaking hard for her characters every damn time.

This was angst central and I got swept right into the drama. The sexual tension was STRONG in this story- I felt like a string being pulled so tight that if someone didn’t do something naughty I was gonna freaking SNAP CRACKLE AND POP!

Charlotte- Such a relatable character, a girl just trying to make everyone happy and put her own life o the back burner.

Duke- Playboy turned mush- ALWAYS fun to watch those character changes.

Basically this book was amazing and beautiful and hot and heartwarming. Beautifully written story that tangles you in, makes you wriggle with anticipation and then doesn’t disappoint. 5 Stars again for Lindsey Iler!

I never exactly know what I’m getting into when I start a book. Who really does? But the thing I love most about reading is when you realize that this book is going to be so much more than you ever thought it was going to be!! And Ms. Iler did exactly that! We talked about how this is her first book away from her beloved Graham and Kennedy, but if I’m honest? It’s the best difference ever!!! It’s THE book!!! I’ll always love Graham and Kennedy but Duke and Charlotte now own my heart!!!

First of all, I have dibs on Duke!! Ms. Iler and I have discussed!! You’ll see why. He’s sweet, he’s alpha, he’s got tattoos, and he is every single thing I want in a guy. But most important of all? He shows Charlotte her worth in life. He lets her speak her mind and let’s her talk. She’s not had that often in her life. He has a heart of gold. And he is officially my top book boyfriend!!!

Charlotte, she’s got a lot going on. But she’s holding her own. She’s sweet, caring, always putting herself above others, and is one girl I’d be honored to have as my best friend!!!! Life has not handed her the best deal in life but again, Duke is there to pull her out, to be there for her.

So as you can see I haven’t gone much into the storyline but it’s because I don’t want to give anything away. This is a book you need to experience every single emotion as you go as you’re reading, not from a spoiled review. But know you’ll be sucked in from the absolute beginning!! I actually procrastinated reading because I didn’t want to finish!

And last but certainly not least the secondary characters in this book have absolutely stolen my heart. You’ll love Rachel, Lydia, Derks, Randy, Stacey, and Jacob as much as Charlotte and Duke!!

Ok I’m leaving a lot out, you’ll understand pretty much in the beginning, but still. I’m not ruining a single thing! This is one of my top reads of the year and I can’t wait to go back and visit! Just, pick up ASAP to read, you won’t regret it!!!

I love working in the book industry especially since I am constantly given the privilege of reading new authors and books I might not otherwise have chosen. Sometimes you strike out, and sometimes you strike gold. With You’re to Blame by Lindsey Iler, I feel like I not only struck gold but discovered a new author to add to my list of favorites. She has definitely gained a fan for life. You’re to Blame is extremely well written and so compelling you won’t want to put your kindle down.

Charlotte Novak has more on her plate then she can continue to juggle between school, work and her daily trips to the hospital. Then, as if she doesn’t have enough complications in her life, she meets Duke Anderson. The two are insanely attracted to one another…much like a moth to a flame. Duke takes one look at Charlotte at the end of his bar and knows that he needs to stay away. She belongs to his brother and nothing good can come from poaching. Yet, he’s as drawn to her as she is to him. Sometimes the thrill of the forbidden attracts us more…Is that the case with Charlotte and Duke? Who’s to blame…

Lindsey Iler’s newest works is beautifully written new adult/college, contemporary romance. Readers will be delighted with this slow burn romance with a touch of the forbidden. Upon seeing the cover of this book released on Facebook, I actually stalked the author and asked for a blogger’s copy so that I could get my hot little hands on it before its official release. I mean, that cover is just gorgeous! However, it was Lindsey’s skill with words that kept me reading throughout the night until I had finished the very last line. This book was crafted to immediately suck you in with its angst and heartbreak and when you think you know it all, the book will take arched in a direction that I myself didn’t see coming. You’re to Blame is told in duel POV, which happens to be my favorite delivery for a love story. I just feel like you can connect easier with both characters. Only, with Lindsey’s latest work, it’s so skillfully crafted that regardless of being in on both character’s psyche, some secrets remain up to the end of the story. I loved that she had a few cards still up her sleeve and when we hit the 80% mark the story kept building. It wasn’t just an extended epilogue as happens all too often.

There are other reasons I loved You’re to Blame as well. Lindsey’s characters of Charlotte and Duke were amazing…truly amazing. Fighting their attraction at every turn, Charlotte and Duke formed an unlikely friendship. And regardless of the situation Charlotte found herself in, readers will be pulling hard for “more” between this hero and heroine. Their chemistry is almost tangible. Like I mentioned above, they are incredibly drawn to one another and readers will feel this attraction. I did want to yell at them a few times to get their heads out of their a$$es but honestly, as a new adult/college romance, some of this is expected. Characters really sell the story – both the primary and secondary characters – and it was proven on both counts that Lindsey Iler knows how just how essential this point is. Her secondary characters offered enough drama to add to the story and leave readers hoping to see them again in their own books. Another strong point in loving this book is the awesome storyline. Since I knew nothing of the author going in, I felt really open and didn’t have expectations or a set model from previous works. While I did clue in at different times that something was off, or I wasn’t being told the whole story from Charlotte or Duke, I was still surprised with the secrets that were revealed.

Overall, I would give this story 4.5 stars. Instead of arguing any further about why I loved this story, I would suggest you grab it immediately. I highly doubt you’ll be disappointed. Review provided on behalf of Spellbound Stories (http://www.thespellboundstories.com)

Iler is new author to me,and she is definitely an author that I will be looking for more work by. With that being said here is my review for You're to Blame
i went into this book like I normally do when it comes to a new to me author, blind. And i can say that i was not disappointed in this least. This particular story is a love triangle of sorts, but one that i did not see playing out the way that it did. And was for this that I gave it a 4.5 star rating.
Charlotte is a character that you can just tell is someone that does things to appease everyone else. But, yet she doesn't think about what can be the outcome for herself. I got this feeling from the start, when you are introduced to her while she is sitting in a hospital room with her boyfriend, Jacob, that is in a coma. She's there but yet you get the sense that she questions if she should even be there. It was this that made questions start to pop in my head about her relationship with Jacob. This is also that reason I had this feeling that she is hiding something from everyone. And by what people are saying/hinting about Jacob, there is something about him that Charlotte doesn't know.
Enter Duke. He is drawn to Charlotte, yet keeps reminding himself that he can't have her. Charlotte belongs to his frat brother/friend Jacob. Still he finds himself unable to leave her alone. He is one of the few people that knows things about Jacob that could cause Charlotte pain. Knowing about Jacob makes him have an even bigger inner battle as to whether he should say something so he can possibly have her, or if should keep Jacob's secrets.
The chemistry between the characters is something that drew me in. Their story did move slow in the beginning. But, when i sit and think about it it was the slow pace that made me take the time to really absorb what they were going through. In fact it was Charlotte's words that really summed up the slow pace:
"We fell in love like a cool, fall rain. It started out slow, barely registering its change, and then
before we knew it, we were drenched to our bones. He's one thunderstorm, I'm willing to sit
through."
In all I enjoyed this book. The unconventional love triangle is one factor that I found that I liked. And the fact that I found myself thinking that I knew what the secrets were, but, yet there was more that what I thought I saw coming. I would recommend this to someone that is looking for a love triangle with a little twist to the story.

“A girl like you, Charlotte, deserves to feel like the only girl in the room. You are deserving of a lifetime of goodnight kisses and laughter. You deserve to be turned inside out from a single touch.”

Like a moth to a flame, it’s probably better if you steer clear of what could end you. But what if that same thing makes you feel more alive, more wanted, and more desired than anything that came before it? How do you survive that?

Charlotte and Duke are total opposites. He’s the tattooed bartender with a cocky, confident charm. She’s the good girl with the perfect boyfriend and grades. Charlotte’s disappointment and dislike of Duke can be felt instantly, but Duke may be hiding something deeper under that devil may care attitude.

Throughout the book, Charlotte is drowning in guilt after her boyfriend’s accident. She may be the good girl, but the way her heart starts to beat after getting know Duke better is anything but good. It’s dangerous and forbidden, but, on the other hand, he’s the only one that makes her feel alive. Duke is deemed the “bad-boy” of this novel. With his panty-melting smile and tattoos, he plays his role perfectly, but not everything is what it seems. What others don’t see is his noble, loyal, and selfless heart. How he would do anything for Charlotte to keep her safe. However, he, also, holds all the secrets to the mysterious underlying plot. Secrets that could unravel everything he is building with the woman he’s always wanted.

“We overstep and then backtrack. The problem with our little dance is things said can’t be forgotten when they affect us the way we seem to do to each other.”

The two of them together were fire and ice. Their slow-burn was enticing. Their angst was so hot that sparks danced off the page. I loved the constant push and pull, the constant give and take, and the constant hurt and heal they both brought to the table. Their road wasn’t easy, but it made their ending that much sweeter. So, why not five stars? Well, to me, the underlying plot was a little underdeveloped. I wanted he threat to be more menacing, more threatening, just more. The build-up was great, a bit predictable, but still great; however once the truth was revealed it was a bit disappointing. I wanted a surprise twist or an unexpected presence that I never saw coming. But, all in all, I loved this book and can’t wait for the next Lindsey Iler novel.

I Voluntarily Reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book!

This is definitely a different read from Lindsey's usual work. I didnt know what to think of it. I thought it was genuine and the charachters seemed real, but it was an odd read.

Charlotte and Jacob grew up together after Charlotte moved next door at the age of 8. Jacob was 10 and it all starts with a tree and the ownership each one tries to bestow upon it. Even though Jacobs brother, Wes, was the same age as Charlotte, she and Jacob were connected from the beginning. When tragedy strikes and Charlotte is forced to remain by Jacobs bed side she has a huge amount of guilt weighing on her. Everything just comes falling down and Duke Anderson has answers and chooses not to reveal those answers.

Duke has always been drawn to Charlotte but seeing as that she is alreadt taken by his frat brother, Jacob. Its no wonder Jacob is "in love with her" because she is an exotic creature. The moment he sees her in Murphy's bar where he bartends, hes entranced by her. Too bad she has some choice words for him that shocks him to the point he appears at the hospital the next day. After her apology to Duke they form an unlikely friendship that turns into so much more. With secrets and more secrets swimming around them, they are bound to come out and their friendship or whatever it was is going to be damaged.
I liked the relationship between Duke & Charlotte but there was difficulty believing the supporting charachters. I think I expected more suspense and more drama to come from Ari St. James. It would have been a lot more interesting for me at least.

Yes!

You’ve done it again, Lindsey! This story had me crying ( enough that I peeled onions to hide the tears) and angry, as well as smiling.

This story took a girl who put everyone first and a guy who did what he wanted, crossed their paths and made a strong bond. I hate spoilers and feeling like I read the story before even getting the book, so you aren’t getting those in this review.

I will say that if you like a book that flows naturally, can actually see things happening and believe what is transforming on the pages beneath your fingers, then grab this book!

Lindsey has written heartfelt stories in the past and I’ve waited a long time to get this one, but she doesn’t disappoint, please grab a copy, get a few pillows, a nice warm blanket, a box of tissues and a glass of wine( or whatever your drink of choice is). Curl up and enjoy the lives that come to life on the pages before you.

This is the first book I have read from this author and I have to say that I throughly enjoyed it. Charlotte and Jacob had been dating since they were teenagers. When she follows him to college things change but she doesn't want to admit it. When Jacob is in an accident that puts him in a coma she blames herself. Staying by his beside daily is getting to her. Out with her best friend she runs into one of Jacob's fraternity brothers and blames him for the accident. Realizing she was out of hand she tries to appologize. Which starts a friendship they didn't expect.
I loved how Charlotte was a different person with Duke. With how it was describe with Jacob she wasn't allowed to be herself. With Duke she asserted herself. She was free to be her. So as they slowly fell in love Duke revealed a side of himself that no one knows. I so enjoyed their fall. Although I did woder if Charlotte was aware that he had slept with Lydia. I would love to see some stories from the secondary characters.

What happens when your world seemingly falls apart and not everything is at is seems. Charlotte has been with Jacob since high school...she has followed him to college. She is the good girl, does what she is told, dresses and behaves as she should. But she doesn't see the hold he has on her. Tragedy should hold her down but she actually starts to see, herself, others, her life and Duke. She had no use for him when she met him. He was just Jacob's friend. She had to put up with him..though not often. But when these two are pushed together by forces unseen, can they stay away from each other despite the magnetic pull? I loved this story...there are secrets...some that threaten to break both Duke and Charlotte...but perhaps secrets should be told...and maybe..just maybe...they will bring clarity to their lives.

Hanging on to every word

Contemporary romance isn’t normally my go to genre and I found this book from one of the book clubs on Facebook. The blurb was interesting enough but it doesn’t give it justice to the true and passionate story this book tells.
The blurb did this book no justice.
It was slating, heartbreaking, and had me a mess of anxiety and angst all while hope and love teetered on the horizon.
I ate through the pages so quickly I have one hell of a book hangover.
I couldn’t speak enough about how fantastic the twists and turns of these pages are. Duke and Scar- the journey they take to truth and love is both heartbreaking and realistic as they battle through their own versions of loyalty all while trying to find the truth in love.
I would give this book 7 stars if I could.

My review is 3.9 stars.

I read the first book by the Author. And I would like to admit that she's good. This book is different, the way of writing, comprehending the scenes, and portrayal of the plot. Well, there is something peculiar about the book. The one thing that most attracted me to this book was the approach of the author. She did a marvellous job.

Now coming back to the story of the book, the characters, the plot and all the storyline built around it was engaging. This book starts and as you proceed further you'll have a nagging in the mind that something is left out and you will definitely have the desire to find out what the damn thing is.

There were some scenes that left me in awe. I would appraise the author that she did a good job. I liked it. The characters are lovely.

Definitely a book to recommend.

“Oh yeah, what about you, Duke? What’s something no one knows? Not even Lydia?” I test him. I was upset before, but now, I’m pissed. Who does he think he is? “I’m capable of loving someone.”

Now that I got that out of the way, first let me say this was an amazingly written book. It was full of twists and romance, I couldn’t help but fall in love with the main characters and the supporting characters. They were all easy to relate too. During the time I was reading I was trying really hard to figure out what Charlotte and Duke were holding back from each other, I had a couple of close guesses. It was fun that way, to not right off the bat say what was going on. I highly recommend this book, this was my first read by Lindsey Iler but it will not be my last.

Oh, Lindsey Iler was a brand new author to me when I went it this book and I have to say how happy I am to have stumbled upon her writing. This book draws you in from the start. It starts out angsty and sad with this feeling of mystery surrounding the circumstances and the main character...Charlotte has a lot going on and then Duke pops up on the radar and sparks fly...they keep you guessing and you know everything isn't what it seems. I wanted to shake them sometimes and even yell at them...lol that's when you its good. I was totally invested in them!

I hate choosing headlines for my reviews

Ok, i was really excited for this book. But I’ll admit that toward the end i was like wtf. How could Charlotte be ok with everything that happened? Are there real people out there who’d act the way she does after she finds out the truth?

I loved the first 3/4 of the book, and then idk what happened. When we find out everyone’s truths, it was kind of anticlimactic. If the characters had reacted the way we’d expect them to, it’d be a 5 ⭐️.

I love this author, and Ill be waiting for the next one.

I absolutely loved this book. The angst level was right up there with what I love to read. Charlotte and Duke's off-limits feelings for each other had me rooting for them to be together from the very beginning. I loved watching Duke change his ways from playboy to friend to lover. Duke brought out all of the best parts of Charlotte. He made her feel safe and gave her confidence to voice her feelings. The twist was great but not so surprising. This was my first read by this author, and I will definitely be diving in to more from her!

I blame you for the 1 star

Started off interesting, but there were too many contradictions and plot holes for the story to be enjoyable. The author based the entire story on this big secret that turns out not to be so big, bc you already guessed it before you even got half way through the book. It was a lot of time wasted. Charlotte and Duke are both idiots. The author took bits and pieces of cliche contemporary romance novel plot and mashed them together. Down to singing "girls just wanna have fun" at karaoke night. This book wasn't for me and you're to blame.

I adored this book. Charlotte and Duke are the couple you root for them whole way through. One of the sayings in this book "beautiful mess" is absolutely perfect for them.

Your heart cannot help but love them and aches for the situation they are in, but my god it makes for an amazing read. It is quite simply one of those books i connected with straight away.

Great Characters, a great storyline and overall an amazing read.

ARC for honest review

Lindsey is a new author to me, but I will definitely be hunting out more of her work.
“You’re to Blame” was a great read.
I loved Duke and Charlotte, they had such chemistry together. It was beautifully written. I also thought the best friend Rachel was a brilliant character. She was always pushing Charlotte into doing things she didn’t really want too, because she knew it was what was best for her. Typical best friend ❤️
I knew I didn’t like Jacob from the first few pages. I rooted for Duke the whole way.

Well done to Lindsey!

Amazing
This is a new to me author, I'll be one clicking the rest of her books for sure.
Char and Jacob were high school sweethearts. When Jacob went off to collage she followed the following year. After a bad accident that put Jacob into a coma, Char started to fall for his brother from his frat. With many secrets between them will they be able to sort this mess out or will they go there separate ways.

Messy, bland, and generic. This felt like a thousand other books. The author attempted mystery and intrigue with the story line, but instead I got blandness that nearly bored me to tears. There was just nothing special about it. The characters fell flat, the story was rushed and awkward, the romance was dull. Unfortunately, there really wasn't anything memorable about this one. I only finished it because I skimmed 50% of the novel just to get to the end.

Holy fish sticks this author played with my emotions we learned about a girl named Charlotte and she’s at the hospital with her boyfriend Jacob he’s in a coma, the story takes us back and it tells us back to when Charlotte met Jacob when she was younger. All when Jacob was in a coma Charlotte runs into Jacobs old friend and Charlotte feels that attraction but both are holding secrets and what’s even worse if Jacob wakes up what happens when truth is revealed.

A light endearing read that hooked me from the start.

Jacob turns out to be not has he seemed to Charlotte, his secrets come to light and hurts Charlotte but her heart has already chosen her true love and what an amazing man he is.
i loved the chemistry between Charlotte and Duke, their story was told beautifully.
i loved Charlotte's best friend Rachel and Dukes friends, they all made this book extra special and i wanna read more about everyone of them.

I wasn't quite sure what to expect from this book, but I have read this author before. I first want to say that I thoroughly enjoyed this book; the emotional tugs that each of the characters pulled from you were at times exhausting. I sometimes felt like shouting " enough already!" This is a story of finding your own happiness and to not always put others happiness ahead of your own.

A sweet love story between two people who had no business falling in love. Neither Duke or Charlotte were looking for the other. It's angst-filled and I was on the edge of my seat waiting for them to just get together. Duke was a sweetheart and Charolette had her moments too. Maybe more books to come in the future with some of these different characters? I'd like that :)

Enjoyed this book a lot. The start was a little slow and it took a bit to truly captivate me but the chemistry between Duke and Charlotte was enough to keep me going.

Their connection was off the charts and at times made me frustrated, I wanted to smash their heads together, but oh how I enjoyed their slow burn romance and once it the flames really took off I was whooping and hollering!

You're to Blame was amazing! I love Charlotte and Duke!! Charlotte is stronger than she gives herself credit for and Duke, well, he's my new favorite book boyfriend! The characters are well written and the story flows so well. Once you start reading it you won't be able to stop. Lindsey Iler has a new fan!
