Storm’s life is a painful disaster. Her father’s passing away, she hasn’t spoken to her mother in years, and she’s in a cruel, abusive marriage with her husband Chase. Is there any way out for her?
On his deathbed, her father pleads with her to leave Chase. Her brother vows to help her escape the violence. With help from a family friend, she establishes a new life in Chicago. She has a new job, new apartment, and a friendship with the family friend’s son Kobe. He’s a playboy with a girlfriend named Samantha, but he’s developing feelings for Storm. In spite of herself, Storm feels the same way.
But Chase is just one step behind in finding her, and Storm knows it. Kobe asks her to move in with him for protection. As she’s packing, Chase breaks in to her apartment and kidnaps her. She’s a total prisoner now – savagely beaten, starved, addicted to alcohol and sexually abused.
In her worst beating yet, Storm is almost killed by Chase, but a neighbor hears and calls the police. In the hospital, she reunites with Kobe. He asks her to marry him, but Samantha reveals he cheated with her while Storm was kidnapped…and she’s pregnant. Kobe’s one of three men who could be the father. Chase is another. Storm is forgiving, and they marry, but as they are ready to leave for their honeymoon, Samantha goes into labor, and Chase appears again – shooting Kobe.
Can Storm find peace, mend family matters and at last, find happiness in love?
Monica L. Smith lives a vast contrast in lifestyles. She has been working in the medical field since 1997, first as a Certified Nursing Assistant, then in 2005 as a Medication Aide and, since 2013, as a Licensed Practical Nurse. She was born in Louisville, Kentucky, where she received her diploma. She then moved to Maricopa, Arizona, with her husband and 2 out of 9 children.
When she isn’t working, she enjoys old-school television shows such as “Perry Mason”, “Matlock”, “Forensic Files”, and more currently, “The First 48.” Her creative side began to emerge when she tried her hand at writing. She published A Softer Side of Me, a book of 10 poems focusing on her “normal” but inspirational life, including her husband, children and career. It spent time as #1 in the poetry genre on Amazon.
But much like her character, there’s another side to Monica L. Smith, who has realized that she has a passion for urban erotic fiction. She enjoys writing what she calls “no-no” sensual sex scenes and while she does explore the dark side, she also firmly believes in writing about finding love, and hopes to inspire women to find their balance between sexuality and true love.
She claims she may not actually do what she writes about, but she feels a connection to it and enjoys the thrill that drives her to see her stories through to their exciting climax and conclusion.
The characters I could not ever get a clear visual, nor make a connection. Chase was very ambiguous, and Kobe never seemed genuine. Storm, mostly made me sad for her extreme submissiveness.. Sam was clearly a bad person and the others were similarly bland. The overall story was fine. I would like to see more character development and cohesiveness in the story.
I really enjoyed this book! It has many life lessons, one is forgiveness and another is to never give up. Even when times became extremely bad for Storm, she never gave up and she also learned about forgiveness, she had to forgive in order to move on. With her determination to survive she became the winner in the end.
Oh my goodness this was such an amazing and emotional read. Chase was so foul. I can't believe all the awful things Storm had to endure. I really don't see how Storm forgave Samantha. She didn't deserve any happiness. She was such an evil person. I loved Kobe he knew what he wanted and went all out to get it . Great book.
Good complex story about a battered woman who strives to make something out of her life in spite all of her hardships. The storyline was emotional and engaging. I was satisfied with how things ended up. I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book
Storm endured so much by the hands of Chase. He was really a sick man and got what he deserved in the end. I'm happy that Storm found a man to love and protect her from everything Chase tried to do to her. Glad Storm found love, peace, and happiness.
This was my first read by this author. It was good. I really enjoyed it. I wished it had an epilogue, because I really wanted to know what they had. It was a good read.
