Librarian's Note: An alternate cover for this ASIN can be found here
Blending High Fantasy with Sci-Fi, this tale re-imagines an epic legend told long ago. Following her escape from the Garden, Lilith, the first woman of Eden, is faced with a choice: return to peace and comfort as Adam’s wife, or choose a harder, darker path in hope of freedom. Liberation doesn’t come easily. War, death, betrayal, love, and revenge will all cross her path - and if she wins, the angels should be very afraid.
With updated storytelling to suit a modern audience, you can explore a world of magic, technology, time travel, the true story of the Grim Reaper, and the real mystic past of angels – all in this beautifully crafted novel. Try a chapter for yourself!
Epic of Lilith is just as the title implies; a story of how the world’s first female villain rose from a place of subjugation, to a power seat even the angels feared.
What I liked most about this book is the Sci-Fi / almost Steampunk theme it has. When time travel, technology, and freaking METAL ANGEL WINGS came into play, I was so there for that. It has test tube monsters, actual war machines being wielded by the Guardians, and scientific theories woven in to explain time, space, power, and how the ‘magic’ of the world works. It all came together and created a mythos that was exciting to explore.
I picked this book up because I’m a sucker for Lilith stories and I’m trying to expand my library with self-published authors – seeing as I hope to become one soon. What nearly made me pass it up was the cover. It’s beautifully made, sure, but often times when a character’s costume reveals underboobs, you’re in for a very different kind of story. The kind with lots of sex and objectification, wanton violence, and very little attention to the plot. This was delightfully not the case! There are no grandiose sex scenes, Lilith (and other female characters) never have their bodies overly described, and the plot (along with Lilith’s personal motivations) were always the main focus. So in this case, definitely don’t judge a book by its cover.
Most importantly, Lilith is a strong female character. And not just because she’s an excellent combatant. She’s clever, motivated, and her aim for revenge as well as her ultimate goals are always clearly explained and easy to relate to. The story starts as Adam vs. Lilith, but then quickly develops into Lilith’s own ambitions beyond him.
The illustrations are actually quite beautiful, and despite this being a story for older audiences, they were a welcomed addition – adding depth and a great deal of punch to the chapters.
The Guardians came across as a little two-dimensional, but I did enjoy the world building that played out in their scenes. How Epic of Lilith defines the universe, how it spins, and what forces are responsible for its existence are absolutely unique and fascinating.
It’s an easy afternoon read that’ll definitely earn a place on your shelf.
In the past two years I started reading more and more books as an escape from the adulthood. This time I added a fantasy to my virtual bookshelf to make my reading palette more colourful and I have to say I do not regret my decision on choosing this book at all.
I had absolutely no idea what to actually expect, but honestly, I received a tale full of twists and surprises. This book kept me excited from the first page to the last one.
The plot is not a story based on one main character, as the author took me to viewing the action by changing the protagonists. By the time I got used to one of the characters, everything changes, something goes wrong, but no matter what happens around, our heroes still find their path to the happiness. All is well that ends well! I enjoyed reading the characters’ mind, seeing their inner thoughts about each other. The link among the persons is Lilith to whom the story always returns but never remains long with her. She tries to find her path, her desire, but she suffers a lot thanks to those unable to understand her obsessive journey.
The major say of the book for me is the human strength, the power to stand up after all the difficulties and pain. Parents, who lost a child, carry on with their lives and start raising new ones, those who lost the love, learns again how to love or just find something else to be absorbed in.
I personally loved how the author uses some SCI-FI aspects; the chain of events kept me reading the book with my mouth open wide in amazement. I can hardly wait for the next tome to see what else happened in this futuristic ancient time.
After purchasing this book I researched the original myth about Lilith, which was unknown to me before, and I found it totally fascinating how the author used it to create a new, modern and awesome story about her. This book is highly recommended for all the sci-fi and fantasy book lovers because it is very well written with nicely developed characters and an intriguing plot. I read it in one breath until the early hours and I especially liked the drawings that were great for my imagination. Ivars Ozors, the author, put a lot of heart into this book and I loved it very much. 5 star rating from me!
I have not read many Lilith stories, but I am so happy I read Epic of Lilith. This book couldn't have been more captivating, or interesting. Witness Lilith, do the impossible and face hard life decisions, where she truly becomes her own. The book has wars, drama, monsters, all while keeping the tone intended. The writing is fabulous and it's awesome to read a classic told with a more modern twist. This book is a must read.
This book was recommended to me by a friend and I have to say, I was adamant that I wouldn't enjoy it and was not particularly looking forward to reading it. Fantasy is not a genre that I read really but if this book is anything to go by then I may start reading more like this. I think one of my main reservations about the book was because of the strong link to the story of creation and the Bible, and I'm actually not a believer in any of it. However, I actually really enjoyed the link between the 'old' traditional stories and the new sci-fi type material. I particularly enjoyed reading about Lilith and her journey of discovery of herself and the type of person she is. I thought the way that each character's story were presented and the links between them developed was very cleverly done and also in a non complicated way. Despite my initial reservations and judgements, I actually read this book within 2 days and definitely would read more from this author. My eyes have been opened to the fantasy genre :)
