Shifter novel set in the same world as, the bestselling, Chosen and Program series
It all started with a dare. One little dare. Just a string of silly words that landed Alice smack bang in the middle of the ‘Dark Horse’ bar surrounded by utter chaos. Like most pick-up joints, the place was a meat market, but on steroids. The guys weren’t just simply guys, they were shifters.
Taller, bigger … hot damn … talk about jaw-on-the-floor gorgeous. She can’t help but stare, back pressed against the wall, eyes wide, blood coursing just a little faster through her veins. That’s when he arrived. Impossibly big and brooding, seeming to look right through her with those dark eyes. She’s so tempted to leave with him, to let him make good on all of those dirty promises. Problem is, he’s just so annoyingly arrogant. Why does she feel like she’s punishing herself when she walks out … alone?
Ash watches in shock as the human turns and leaves. No female has ever turned him down. Not. Ever. He can scent that she wants him, so why is she denying her basic needs? Try as he might, he can’t stop thinking about her … about what she would look like under him. Cheeks flushed, eyes glassy, biting down on her lip as she… Ash decides that he has to have her. She’s awakened the hunter in him and he knows just where to find her. Just one time - he’ll give her exactly what she needs - and then he’ll be out of her life forever. He’s not looking for a mate, definitely not looking for love. Unfortunately, he’s about to find out that just once with this particular female might not be enough.
No cheating and a guaranteed HEA. Mini-cliffhanger ending. Contains hot alpha males and therefore strong sexual themes/language

DELIGHTFULLY ENTERTAINING !!! Title: Unbound Series: Shifter Night Author: Charlene Hartnady Designation: Book Two of Series, Full-Length Standalone (Approximately 200 pages), No Cliffhanger, HEA #paranormal #shapeshifter #romance #bearshifterhero #humanheroine Reading Platform: Kindle Edition My Rating: Five Delightfully Entertaining Stars I love, love, love Unbound! I've been a Charlene Hartnady fan for years and followed her career as she became one of the most reliable authors in the paranormal romance genre today, consistently releasing original, unique, imaginative, well-crafted and edited stories, time after time. Hartnady is one of very few authors on my automatic one-click list. When she releases a new book or offers a preorder, I snap it right up, without even bothering to read the blurb or look at the price, and I've never regretted a single purchase. I subscribe to Amazon Kindle Unlimited but love her work so much, I buy her books rather than borrow, simply because I want them in my permanent library to read again and again. That's quite a recommendation in itself. And her latest release, Unbound, Is no exception! I was thrilled when I discovered Hartnady was releasing a spinoff based in the same world as her bestselling The Chosen Series, but the inspiration for this collection is primarily shifters rather than vampires. In Sweetwater, you never know what you might find! All the paranormals in Hartnady's Sweetwater Texas world, which (so far) includes vampires, elves, bears, wolves, cats, dragons (and who knows what else in the future), are in need of females - fertile females. And now that the Vampire Kings have successfully launched their 'Date A Vampire' campaign, which is nothing more than a politically correct way of describing their 'Breeding Program' brainchild, human females have become fair game and they all want to mate a vampire. This is the premise for Hartnady's The Chosen Series, another fabulous collection if you enjoy hunky, possessive vampires, but the books in the Shifter Night Series have storylines featuring the shifters of Hartnady's Sweetwater World who come into town once a month on Saturday night to blow off steam at the Dark Horse, a pickup bar where shifters mix with human women aspiring to 'party hardy' and, hopefully, do the dirty with the handsome, strapping shifter 'party-animals'. (I just couldn't resist that little pun!) Roar! And these guys really know how to make a woman scream, and not in fright! Shifter Night has been mentioned in several of Hartnady's previous stories and I'd so hoped she would make it into a series... and she did! But some of these guys want more than just a good time, they want to find love. Unfortunately, there are so many shifters looking for mates that the Alphas have had to start their own program. It's not really an organized campaign per se but they call it 'The List'. Any of the shifters wanting to date a human female have to put their name in the hat and wait their turn. The shifters can't afford to draw attention to themselves by stealing all the available women, right? It just wouldn't be fair to all the human males of Sweetwater since all the women want to date shifters! But Shifter Night at the Dark Horse has become so popular, it's now big business for the town. Enterprising entrepreneurs have decided to cash in on the phenomenon and organized Shifter Night tours, bussing in women from all over for the weekend, and business is booming! Sign me up! lol... I tend to get a little carried away when talking about Hartnady's work, but the entire concept is imaginative, fabulously entertaining and a whole lot of fun, so allow me to tell you just a few of the reasons why I love it so much!
Unbound is a well-crafted, fast-paced, easy to follow, full-length, standalone, paranormal tale filled with great characters, riveting drama, heart-wrenching angst, heated attraction, steamy passion, heartwarming romance, and even a bit of underlying mystery. The narrative is beautifully written in the third person with dual his and her perspectives. The dialogue is snappy, well executed and flows effortlessly. But without a doubt, my favorite component of every Hartnady story is the cast of diverse and engaging characters. Unlike Hartnady's other heroes, I was NOT instantly smitten with handsome, stubborn, often arrogant, and always grumpy bear-shifter alpha Ash. He has been mentioned in several books but in the first book of the Shifter Night series, readers were given a little more insight into his character. I was NOT impressed. In fact, I thought he was a huge @$$hole, but I kinda figured the next book would be about him. But if I've learned one thing about Hartnady's characters, it's to never judge a book by its cover, so I decided to reserve my judgment of Ash and see how his story would play out. I'll be honest, there were quite a few times I wanted to punch him in the snout or, at the very least, thump his ears a few times, just to knock some sense into him. And Alice Hargreaves, the female protagonist, I wanted to put her over my knee and spank her bottom! But once I finally learned her backstory, it broke my heart. Alice is a hardworking stylist who owns her own salon, Tease, in Sweetwater and works seven days a week, never taking any time for herself. Like Ash, she's hardened her heart to the possibility of love and is determined to never allow anyone to hurt her again. Ash has no intention of looking for a mate; he just wants to have sex with a willing partner (but never in a bed!), and Alice wants no part of a relationship. Their attraction and sexual chemistry are explosive but each refuses to acknowledge they may have feelings for the other. I became quite angry and wanted to pinch them both! Although Ash and Alice were the last to recognize their true feelings, they were perfect together and complemented each other brilliantly. With a little help from family and friends, they overcame their fears and stopped fighting the inevitable, finally realizing what they each needed was right in front of them. Ash and Alice's journey was often frustrating, sometimes hilarious, occasionally heartbreaking, but always fun and engaging. I snickered, snorted, giggled, snuffled, sobbed, and fumed through the entire book but by the end, I was happy, satisfied and entertained. I truly love the unexpected reactions I have to Hartnady's characters, which brings me to another element I enjoy about her work. This may be fiction, but the stories and characters always deal with underlying real-life issues, making the story so much more emotional, realistic, and quite humorous. But never fear, after shaking your fists in anger and shedding a few heartbreaking tears, Hartnady always leaves you happy, satisfied and well entertained.
No spoilers from me but I will say this... A handsome, burly, brooding, intense, and very stubborn bear shifter alpha looking only for hookups with the human females in Sweetwater and has no intention of ever mating again( *oops, a tiny little spoiler*)-check! A beautiful, strong-willed, hardworking, and very independent salon owner who wants no part of another relationship(oops, another little spoiler) but, on a dare from a friend, may just be interested in a little 'no strings attached' hanky-panky-check! A cast of delightful characters including an adorable four-year-old and an irritating twin brother-check! An unexpected double bundle surprise-check! A mysterious and very dangerous new enemy-check! Humor, heartache, heated attraction, steamy passion, dreamy romance, and a sweet happy ending-you bet! That and a whole lot more!
Did I like this book? No, I LOVED it! Would I recommend it? You bet and I am but only for adult readers. If you're into instant love paranormal romance with no conflict, this may not be the book for you. But if you enjoy a real tug of war between two very stubborn characters who both need their butts kicked, then this is one story you will enjoy. Will I read this author again? Absolutely! Just as soon as she releases her next book! And finally, was I entertained? Completely! Fabulous entertainment and an awesome read! I can hardly wait to read Unchained, the next book in the series, and I so hope it's about Ash's twin brother Gage and Dr. Pamela Evans!
Unbound is the second sexy book in the Shifter Night series. The story revolves around shifters who meet the one and their lives are changed forever. But there are dramas along the way. That's when the fun begins.
While each book can be enjoyed as a standalone, it's best to read them in order to fully appreciate the rich paranormal elements and exciting themes they offer. The characters are fun and loving and dictated by their rules, but what they discover more than they ever imagined.
Strong, sexy alpha males in protective roles! Who doesn't love that
Warning: mature sexual content, mature themes, and language.
It was so enticing that I couldn’t put it down, this book grabbed my interest from the very first page. I couldn’t put it down, I had to know what happened next. The story is well written with a very good storyline. This is book two of three in The Shifter Knight series. (Set in the same world The Chosen Series)
Saturday night is shifter night. It’s that one night of the week when the shifters head into Sweetwater to blow off a little steam. Sometimes, when they’re lucky enough, it’s to find a mate, a sweet, human mate, since shifter females are in such short supply.
It all started with one little dare; just a string of silly words that landed Alice smack bang in the middle of the ‘Dark Horse’ bar surrounded by utter chaos. Like most pick-up joints, the place was a meat market, but on steroids, for these guys weren’t just simply guys, they were shifters.
Taller, bigger, hot, talk about jaw-on-the-floor gorgeous. She can’t help but stare, back pressed against the wall, eyes wide, blood coursing just a little faster through her veins and that’s when he arrived. Impossibly big and brooding, seeming to look right through her with those dark eyes. She’s so tempted to leave with him, to let him make good on all of those dirty promises. Problem is, he’s just so annoyingly arrogant. Why does she feel like she’s punishing herself when she walks out alone?
Ash watches in shock as the human turns and leaves, for no female has ever turned him down. He can scent that she wants him, so why is she denying her basic needs? Try as he might, he can’t stop thinking about her, about what she would look like under him, her cheeks flushed, eyes glassy, biting down on her lip as she comes undone. Ash decides that he has to have her, for she’s awakened the hunter in him and he knows just where to find her.
Just one time, he’ll give her exactly what she needs and then he’ll be out of her life forever. He’s not looking for a mate, definitely not looking for love. Unfortunately, he’s about to find out that just once with this particular female might not be enough. So with all that and more this story pulls you in and holds you tight. It’s a must read. I highly recommend to everyone.
Ash is a bear shifter who is attending Shifter Night at the bar. He is only looking for one-night stands. He had a mate and lost her. He isn't looking, not does he want another. He has a four year old son to take care of and he is an alpha. He also has twin brother named Gage who is in the same clan but they no longer get along. Alice is talked into going to Shifter Night by her best friend Meredith. She hasn't dated for two years because of being hurt by her previous fiance. When they see each other, they are instantly attracted to each other, but Alice turns him down. The next day he tracks her down and they both make it clear that they don't want anything serious. After seeing each other once a month got several months, a few problems arise. Will Ash and Alice be able to work together? Will love come out of this relationship? What happened between Ash and his twin Gage? We also get a hint of what is stalking the shifters and scaring away the game. Read this book to find out what happens. I enjoyed this series so far.
Alice was dared to go out for the first time in years, to let her job behind for a night. There she meets Ash, Ash who never has been rebuffed. They are both damaged people, still healing from their past love-stories and not ready for more. But faith has something in its pocket by bringing them together. They can repeat to themselves as much as they want that their relationship is just a fling, there is more than simple lust, they are feel good together. But they will need a little help from destiny and a clean up of their eyes to see what is right in front of them is going to last. Ash’s reaction to Alice news was hurtful but alas real, i was angry with her, and sorry for him but I liked how with time they were able to sort this out. Ethan’s interaction with Alice is lovely, he is an adorable little boy, overloaded with cuteness! In short it is one more nice addition to this series. Can’t wait to read now Gage’s story.
Alice let her friend, Meredith, talk her into going to Dark Horse, a Shifter pick-up bar in their little town. She met Ash and immediately labeled him as an arrogant such in such. He zeroed in on her and began his usual direct approach to accomplish his goals and ease his urgent needs. That was the reason for these monthly trips into town; definitely not to form a lasting relationship. The relationship between Alice and Ash grew more complicated and much more unstable as the months went by. Alice was looking for permanent and Ash wasn't, firmly gripped by the ghosts of his last tragic relationship. Pain and raw motions resurfaced as Ash was forced to tell Alice why he was so opposed to getting to know her better. This story was filled with drama and many surprises. It quickly escalated from an awkward situation where feelings were continually bruised and misread to a dangerous mystery with casualties. I found this story dramatic and steeped in mystery. Very enjoyable!!!
This book was amazing to read, I felt emotions and I felt the anger and displeasure of the characters. I love it when an author makes me feel things lol. No matter the feeling when you feel it as you read it's GOOD.
Ash, I liked him his arrogance I could do without but I adored him. His past had my heart breaking and his actions (some) had my blood boiling. Overall though you would love reading about him, the ever protecting father bear.
Alice, made me thrill that she stood her ground no matter what. I love how easily she adapted to her life changes too. My favorite was how determine she was throughout the story. Always admired a strong female.
The book kept me on the edge of my seat wondering how this one will go. And the ending which excites you for the next book. Yes a *slight* cliffhanger but one that you can bet your butt you'll not mind.
Unbound was a fantastic story, and a great addition to this series. Full of humor, sexy intimate scenes, awesome characters, deep emotional trauma, and unexpected twists and turns, it held me captive till the very end. A definite must read!
Although not necessary, I highly suggest that you read all of the previous series. (ie.. The Program, Bride Hunt, The Chosen, etc..) Not only were they outstanding stories, but there are a lot of ties between all of them. You won't be missing anything by not reading them, but gaining insight about the different shifters, how they interact, and the unique aspects of how they find their mates. I promise you won't be disappointed.
I would definitely recommend this book, series, and exceptional author.
Ash and Alice meet on stag night and sparks fly like lightning between them. Although sexually attracted to Ash, she rebuffs every move he makes, a first for him. Usually he has to rebuff the multitude of females coming on to him, and Alice’s turn-off throws him for a loop, so much so he tracks her salon down the next day to find her. Going to her house, he coaxes his way in the door and into her panties. This begins a monthly scheduled booty call for them until one night Ash forgets to use a condom and bites her during their passionate session. Finding herself pregnant, Alice notifies Ash that she is pregnant with his twin sons. He cannot believe this information and accuses Alice of trying to trick him, so she throws him out. You must read for yourself the complex conclusion of this story. It is well worth your time. I highly recommend it.
An excellent second book in this series , Ash a bear shifter not interested in a relationship and Alice once bitten twice shy left at the altar by a previous lover not been interested in men since., persuaded to go th the shifter bar by her friends and there these two meet.Chemistry flows between these two but he runs scared and leaves her with more than just memories of red hot sex. With things problems at the shifter village and Alice pregnant with twins life becomes a bit difficult but eventually he owns up to his love for her and the babies and everything goes well until her friend comes to visit and things take a turn for the worst. A great entertaining read and I love forward to the final book.
This was a very good story. It has both adventure and suspense. One thing I find interesting there is a story of a mysterious creature that is developing throughout the Shifter Night series, and while each story can be read on its own I would recommend reading the series as it keeps getting better with each story. This story had me both happy, sad, and even a little mad at the Hero Ash... But he eventually gets it together... Lucky for him Alicia loves him and let's him off lightly... Ethan is a sweetie. I hope Gage sorts himself out... The creature attacked him at the end of this... A bit of a cliffhanger, but I plan on reading the last book right now. This was hard to put down... I love to read all night lucky we are locked down so I can sleep in 🤣
LIFE CHANGING BEAR DARE! Alice takes a dare that changes her life when she meets up with hot bear shifter Ash. Their “no strings” relationship sure is hot hot hot but too hot for Ash & he’s not looking for any sort of commitment. Circumstances change so what had started out as a steamy fun relationship has to change. I loved Ash who struggled with his past & Alice was a feisty match for this sexy Alpha. This is the second book in the Shifter Night Series but can be read as a standalone. You’ll want to go back to read the first one though as they’re so good. I was lucky enough to to be given an ARC in exchange for an honest review
Charlee Hartnady has written another hit. This book is a page turner, and I did not want to put it down after I started it! It pulls you in from the first page. This is the second book in the shifter night series, and I recommend you read the first book because those characters are in this book. This was Ash and Alice’s story. You know a book is good when it draws out your emotions. There were times where I wanted to smack one of the characters, or I was shaking my head at their actions. I absolutely loved this book, and I cannot wait until the next book. I voluntarily read and reviewed an ARC of this book.
This one was good. Enjoyed it quite a bit. She got left at the alter and gave up until a hot, steamy, muscle bound guy tells her what he wants to do to her for just one night. She didn't have plans on it but it happens. She ends up pregnant, go figure. Even after taking the B plan pill, a few times. She wants him to know only for him to get pissed and asking who the father was.
Leads to her having to give up everything so she can be with him and let him be the father. Past incidents hang over his head and he is scared of it repeating.
I really enjoyed this book! Alice and Ash seemed as though they would be perfect for each other. There were, however, many issues to work through for both of them. Alice is a warm, loving person and puts her all into her relationships - at least, as much as she is allowed. Ash has so many mixed feelings! It’s a pleasure watching them grow into their relationship. I can’t wait to read more if this series!
Who would believe that Ash would swallow his pride and admit his defeat, that he was head over heels in love with Alice. But the hiccup they had brought them closer together..but that interest is peaked wanting to know what the hell this other shifter is, and I am going towards a griffin...I maybe wrong though cause which shifter has only one foot..well I guess we will find out soon enough in the next book...can't wait..big fan Winzie19.
I have read all of this author's books and continue to enjoy each one.
I was captivated from the very beginning of this book. The characters were very likable and the story line held my interest. I truly enjoyed the progression of the relationship between the two main characters. Each chapter led to many new features and the story held my attention through it all.
We've all had those friends who can't seem to help themselves with challenging us to step outside our comfort zone, and that's exactly what happens to Alice. She finds herself at the Dark Horse on Shifter Night where she meets Ash. Fate has a funny way of pushing you in the right direction and with all the twist and unexpected turns that comes their way,I know it was a dare she would happily take on again.
Unbound Shifter Night: Book 2 By Charlene Hartnady Kindle unlimited purchase On a dare, Alice is talked into going to the local pick up bar. Ash is a bear shifter. When Alice turns him down he can't believe his luck. Alice is just the female for Ash. But when she won't give him the time of day he has to have her even more. Following the clues he finds her. But does he get more than he wanted?
Think book is FREAKEN FANTAST!! I can't wait to read the next book in this series. I am on pins and needles wanting to read the next book. This book was fast paced, hard to put down, in fact you couldn't put it down. You fall in love with the characters right from the start.
I am happy for Ash and Alice. Both just needed a swift kick to get them accepting their feelings. (I am hoping Gage gets his happily ending after the whole Savannah thing.) Mostly I am just happy how these characters overcame their fears and dealt with their emotional baggage.
Love this series and can't wait for each new book. I took a star off for grammar errors. Not my favorite of her books but was good. Felt there was some repeating sentences that were used in previous books but used to often in this one. Kinda gave me whiplash from the sudden change. I prefer there to be some leading up to a change.
A very good, interesting but frustrating story. I loved the characters and how they all seem just like real people with relationship problems. The frustration comes from the mystery that I don’t have a clue of what’s going on and who is going to disappear next. Looking forward to the final book.
Manwhore seduces girl. Has sex without condom without her knowing. She gets pregnant, he tells her it is another man's and leaves. He realizes it is his. His pack says she had to live with him or will be kicked out and lose son. He goes back, says sorry and talks her into living with him... HATED the hero. Girl was a pushover.. I cant even go on with what else happened....
Unbound, book 2 of Charlene Hartnady's Shifter Night series. This story is filled with drama and more drama. With something hurting members of Ash's pack, the past haunting them and the future in question what will the future hold? The twist and turns make this book a must read.
Excellent, loved, loved this story 😂! It was amazing and exciting and just awesome!! I have read all of Charlene 's books 📚and love 💘all of them! Charlene is an amazing writer and fantastic storyteller 😄!! Her stories does not disappoint.
Charlene Hartnady has a great way with her stories. You'd think there are only so many ways to tell a love story. But she sucks you in with a new take each time. She is one of my very favorite authors. I can't wait for the next and last book of this series !
