Dr. Sara Hudson has dedicated her life to her patients. Unable to turn anyone away, she sacrifices more and more of herself to them, trying to do the impossible by helping everyone. Her tight knit network of friends are one of the few things that have kept her sane, but after 10 years of putting everything into her career she is hurtling headlong into burnout. A chance encounter one evening sets her on an unforeseen path that just might change the way she lives her life.
Warnings: 1) I highly recommend that you read Fusion before Providence. While both titles could act as stand alone novels, the outcome of Fusion is spoiled in Providence.
2) There are explicit sex scenes between two women numerous times within Providence. If you don't enjoy reading graphic sex scenes or are offended by sex between two women, this is probably not the book for you.
3) My characters are not opposed to the use of strong language. If it offends you, again this might not be the book for you.
Author of book detailing the lives and loves of women loving women. The characters are saucy, sassy and hopefully relatable as they travel through life.
Librarian note: There is more than one author in the Goodreads database with this name.
I thought this book was better than the first one. It goes a long way to get to the true romance of the story but that's okay because I like long books. I did get super annoyed with on of the main characters at the end. If someone wants to be with you and you want to be with them...then frickin be together! I hate when someone tries to decide what's best for another person. And hell yes, this touched on a personal issue for me. Yep. Still a pretty good read though.
Two women met by chance, but love by choice. Sara and her paramour make a special kind of love. It holds the power to remake their lives in its own image. Sure in every relationship, to some extent, me gives way to we. Keeping in touch with yourself can be a challenge, when love grabs a hold of you. Seeing this process happen, in a book about two beautiful women, is a gift from a very talented author.
Their romance becomes bittersweet. Big decisions stand between them and force change in one direction or the other. I was happy to see Sara take real joy from life and love. Her addiction to work and working out kept her occupied, but not viscerally satisfied. The novel, as she narrates it, demonstrates the awesome power of being loved and loving another woman. I hope that The Velvet Series continues in another well written book.
Hmmm, I’m still a little worked up over this book! Book is well written, I can’t fault this author.
This didn’t go how I wanted to go. In the end I had a strong dislike of Isabelle and Sara... lucky it’s only a book. Move over Bliss, Kane is definitely the new smut writer! So so much of it, first few times it was exciting but in the end I just kept fingering those pages to escape it. I’ve learnt a lot about sex and play! Somehow I don’t feel so embarrassed by it, Kane has a way in her words to make you feel like that. Does leave with questions about the les community.
This is Bk 2 of The Velvet Series! All 3 of the series were in my TBR shelves! I love this series so far! Sara is an over worked plastic surgeon. Her specialty is reconstructive surgery for breast cancer survivors. She hasn't had a vacation in 10 yrs. Because of a friendship gone wrong, and the practice hiring another plastic surgeon she goes on vacation to Punta Cana. There she meets the most beautiful woman she's ever seen, Isabella Torres. This is a beautiful love story between 2 beautiful women. I really love this story!! 5 stars!
I honestly didn't really like this book...I wanted to but I couldn't. For some reason I wanted the two main characters to be together. We spend about half the book with them and damn it how could they not. I get it...some things can not be but for some reason Sara seemed hot and cold...understanding then demanding. And Kat was just as weird. Throw in Isabella and I just shut down. Honestly this book frustrated me but it was written well enough that giving it less than 3 stars seemed wrong. Free on kindle and I will probably read the next in the series cause I'm a glutton for punishment

This is a well written book, the characters are real and very well developed. I either liked them or disliked them as they were shown to me. The frustration comes from an issue the MCs face toward the end of the book. From all that was written before about them, I couldn't wrap my head around the lead character's refusal to let go of her problem. So much so I didn't want to finish the book, so i quit it, shaking my head.
This is the second book in the Velvet Series, which is set in a surgical hospital in the USA. The first book is called Fusion, and stars the characters Alexis and Catherine, both of whom show up in this book.
The main character of this book is Dr Sara Hudson. Unlike most romances, this is much more of a solo character-driven book than a two character drama, and there are reasons for this structure in the narrative.
Sara is a specialist plastic surgeon who repairs women's bodies after breast cancer. Her practice is booming and with her volunteer medical work on top of a busy surgical schedule, Sara is at risk of burning out.
She comes to the aid of the wife of one of her patients. However, the small kindnesses Sara offers Katrina while she copes with the trauma and death of her wife, is repaid with stalking and a variety of odd and threatening behaviours. Whilst there is some attraction between them, their connection is twisted by Katrina's grief.
I have to say, that at this point, I was so frustrated that I nearly put the book down. I can see why the author did this, but I felt that the time spent on this connection, and on the events around it, lead the book down a different path.
It wasn't until Sara escaped to a beach for a holiday that the book turned around for me. This is where Sara meets Isabella, the bartender at the resort.
I don't want to go into too many details as it will spoil it for you, but I do want to suggest you get past the initial third of the book, as this is really where the book starts. The first third could have been savagely edited to make this a much tighter, and more focused book.
The book worked on many levels, but the first third give the impression that the book is a very different genre than the last two thirds.
Another point is that the sex scenes, and there are many, are bold and graphic and may not work for everyone. This is not a sweat romance.
There are flaws in the construction of the narrative that unbalance the story, but I really liked the main character and was happy I stuck with her for the duration of the book. There are some interesting elements, and the support characters present in the previous book are clever and fun and they are organically organically incorporated into this one. I genuinely enjoyed the book and look forward to reading the next one in the series.
Like the first book in the series, this one comes with its frustration for the reader--or at least for this reader--due to a very long introduction between the main character, Sara, and someone who ends up being a secondary character, Katrina. I was wondering why there was so little chemistry between them, only to find out over a third of the way into the book that Katrina isn't the love interest.
Sara isn't an easy main character to like for much of the first half of the book. Thankfully, as she falls for Isabella, she softens. There are some steamy scenes as well as some sweet ones, such as when Isabella tells her in Spanish that she doesn't want Sara to leave. I liked feeling Sara's misery when she couldn't get a hold of Isabella due to a storm's impact on communications, as I could relate to how that would mess with her head and make her wonder about where they stood.
So different from the first one .....and not in a good way!
I loved the first book, this one not so much. I didn't like the change of direction after you invest yourself into a certain character and a certain story then change course in the middle of the book, at least it's how it felt like, and i can tell you I didn't care for that. Also Sara....it was difficult for me to connect with her at the beginning she seemed like a caring unselfish person but then she seemed so cold and completely opposite from what you perceive of her at the beginning. Bottom line is, i didn't like or enjoyed reading this book, not one bit and there were so many sex scenes and long ones that it became a boring reading and i do enjoy sex scenes but not when they're there just to fill the pages.
It starts really odd, with a doctor inexplicably latching on to the next of kin of a patient, developing a weird stalker relationship over the first half of the book. Then she finds love and the 2nd half is just sex, with a bit of the dumbest reason for “we can’t be together” I’ve ever seen in a romance. I don’t know why I read the whole thing, I guess it was strangely entertaining, and the lesbian love story was a first for me, but I’m glad it’s over. I already knew that I prefer clean romance without the ridiculous sex and the endless fixation on looks and bodies, but this drove it home even more.

3.5 stars.. rly didnt care for the drama at the end.. don't get me wrong.. I do like me some angst but it has to be realistic.. rest was cute.. and very steamy;)
I know I’ve had enough of the book when I catch myself rolling my eyes more frequently than not.
Issues I have with the story: SOOO MUCH SEEEXXXX!!! Like, guys, focus!! I need substance here, not just orgasms. Ffs. The scenes were literally like, eye contact? Sex. New setting, sex. Breathing weirdly, sex. Physiologically, how much “earth shattering” orgasms can one have in a marathon sex? And then you tell me the next day your body still could produce such mind blowing climax over and over and over? That’s where my eye roll comes in. It was good reading the first three encounters I guess, the subsequent ones I just find myself going, go on, get on with it. I want the actual story unfolding.
Second issue I find annoying is the main character’s ambivalence to say yes to her lover living closer to her at the risk of “abandoning” said lover’s family. Really??That’s the best contention the author could come up with? It felt like grasping at straws. It was weak and only stoked my irritation more when the main character was whinging about her indecision. No one wants to live with their parents as soon as they can sustain their independence. The distance is healthy. Goes to show I was left exasperated more than anything wasting my time reading this story. I say it was not worth it.
P.S. Sorry, Diana Lane. Please don’t read my review. If you do, I’m just an opinionated big mouth.
I felt that this story started out very interesting and good where we see Sara being a shoulder for Katrina and all the ladies joined in therefore turning it into a friendship. Then I was so captivated by there chemistry that when the story headed and dragged in the other direction, I felt a bit disappointed and cheated and here is where it was ruined for me. Isabella was okay but throughout the whole book I felt like I was waiting for the ball to drop. Like Isabella was Sara's rebound girl. Very upsetting but I continued reading because I kept asking myself IS THE BALL GONNA DROP NOW? Instead I found myself saying OH THAT'S IT? I think the story was written in a rush and not thought about.
NOTE;
Punta Cana is in Dominican Republic and we don't make fajitas, I would have liked Isabella's family to have gone with traditional dishes when meeting Sara for the first time.
➬➱➫➩➪【4.5 Stars】 This is my third book I have read from Diana Kane. I received this from Kindle Unlimited. This is the second book in The Velvet trilogy. This series focuses on a group of doctors who are friends and each of their relationships per book. They could function as a stand-alone, but I do not recommend it.
There were quite a few curve balls in this book. You really won’t expect a lot that comes up. Because of this, I rated it a lot higher than the previous books in the series. I also saw a review claiming Kane copied and pasted sex scenes in this book, but I never came across them. Weird claim to make. Anyways, there’s a lot of sex in this book and it’s erotic as hell.
TW: Non-con scene
I know the TW can be concerning, but it was extremely short and dealt with accordingly. If you can get past that, this book was a delight in the series. ➢Happy reading!
Started out well enough, but by the time the main character started sleeping around a third way through the book, it was all down hill from there. What you are left to believe was that one of the main characters, go through a series of grief controlled behaviours, all to the selfish oblivion of the other. This has left me upset and sad. This book was the opposite of a fun read.

More sleep lost, Both books are compelling stories on the ever ongoing struggles of life and for those lucky enough to find it, love. Somehow Ms Kane has woven enough emotional suspense into this lovely tale of several very intricate and wonderful very sexy ladies that it is very difficult to find a resting place! Love this series.
This was an awesome read. I was hooked from beginning to end. I enjoyed the storyline and loved the characters of Sara, Katrina & Isabella. Isabella was my favourite. You couldn't help but fall in love with her. It was also good to catch up with Catherine, Alex and the other characters from book 1. Looking forward to reading the last book in the series.
I loved the characters and cared about their lives. Can you please write more stories about them. It really is a sign of great writing if people care about what happens to story characters. Thanks m😊
It was a nice story, like the previous one it has 2 parts and is not construct like you average love story. It was refreshing because i like a good plot twist. During the last part i wanting to kick one of the MC in the ass though.
I listened to this as audio, as I often listen to the article escapes package books. I really don't like Emily Beresford as a narrator, she sounds like a female Sheldon Cooper (Amy Farrah fowler? Idk...) so I think that took away from these books, unfortunately. Every time I hear her narrate I think that- she does speak clearly, but she's no Abby Craden (whom I love to listen to!)
Another enjoyable read from Ms Kane. I quite enjoy a story that takes awhile to pan out as it is a reflection of real life relationships. I like the mix of work and private lives in these stories.
It always amazes me how people can read the same books yet have such different opinions. I don't think Sara and Katrina would ever have been able to have a long term romantic relationship. Sara was too immersed in her work and Katrina was grieving. I know everyone grieves differently but she just was not in a good place. I for one loved Isabella. Although I was frustrated with Sara for her inability to make her mind up about their relationship, I do understand that we don't all come a two parent, happy childhood and it's hard for people to commit. Look forward to book three.
This was the first book I’ve rated this low and haven’t been able to finish reading. The characters don’t have consistent personalities and the MC is unlikable. Whether her being that way intentionally or not, it’s just not good. The writer building a romance you start to feel something for and then being like “just kidding...the real love interest makes you feel like you’ve started reading erotica and doesn’t have much personality either,” felt like a waste of several hours of me listening to the audiobook. I wish I knew what happened to Katrina but I got so bored with how much the book dragged out that it felt painful.
Ended up loving this book. However there were hard parts - like just when I started to feel there could be something between Sara and Katrina then Sara bolts on vacation and is talking about loving K while hooking up with Isabella. Eventually her relationship with Isabella won me over. The author could have shortened Sara's angst about Isabella moving to be with her a lot sooner but I still loved this couple.

Loved seeing the characters from the first book continue their story. I liked this book even more than the first though. Multiple stories and drama going on. Keeps you really engaged the whole time. If I have to say anything negative it would be that I just wanted Sara to stop worrying so much a take a leap of faith because her contemplations could get annoying but that was her worry spirited character.
