Will you be "left behind?” Evangelical Christianity knows this question well. It has been inundated with the pre-tribulational, pre-millennial, secret rapture of the church for the last century. In fact, just last week Dallas Theological Seminary advertised a free ebook on social media, The Truth and Timing of the Rapture by Mark Hitchcock. In response, the Alliance is pleased to offer Caught Up: 1 Thessalonians 4 and the Truth About the Rapture by MeetthePuritans editor Danny Hyde.
Daniel R. Hyde (ThM, Puritan Reformed Theological Seminary) is the Pastor of the Oceanside United Reformed Church in Oceanside, California. He is the author of over ten books, including Welcome to a Reformed Church, Why Believe in God?, and God in Our Midst.
“The doctrine that the rapture is the Second Coming of our Lord should cause us to be at peace with God, not be terrified whether we will be taken or not; it should bring us eternal comfort, not feelings of condemnation.”
This was a good short exposition of 1 Thessalonians 4, the passage commonly looked to as a Rapture proof text. He shows that the passage is actually talking about the resurrection at Christ's return. Very pastoral and comforting as it talks about how believers do not need to be grieved in the same way as a nonbeliever would be when a loved one dies since we will be reunited with them in Christ at the resurrection
