Mafia Ties #3

Obsession

Rate this book
This is book three in the Mafia Ties series, and tells the story of Christian & Mia.

Christian DeLuca was born into a powerful mafia family, but he’s chosen a different path for his own life. Returning home for his niece’s christening, the last thing he expects is to fall for a beautiful artist with ties to his family.

Mia Ricci is instantly attracted to the sexy professor, but a relationship between them is impossible. If he knew about the work she’s been doing for his cousin, he’d condemn her.

But Mia doesn’t realize that she’s quickly become Christian’s obsession...and he’s not willing to give her up for anything.

Note: Christian & Mia's story is part of the Mafia Ties series, but it can be read as a standalone.

Overall rating : 3.5 stars

"The tempest of emotions she brought out in me were keeping me unsteady, and I didn’t like feeling out of control. Normally, I was a very laid back, easy-going guy. This possessive, domineering… Neanderthal—I didn’t know where he’d come from. And, it appeared as though he wasn’t going anywhere."

Hot dayum! You can't go wrong with anything that this smutaholic author duo writes. I haven't read a Fiona Davenport book yet, that I didn't enjoy and this sweet, sexy and sizzling hot story was no exception.

Obsession is part of the Mafia Ties series, but it can be read as a standalone. This one told the story of Christian DeLuca who was born into a powerful mafia family. He’s Nic DeLuca’s cousin, the ruthless head of the Italian mafia and he’s also Brandon’s brother who happened to be with his wife Carly, the head of the Irish mob. Years ago, Christian took the decision to take a different path for his own life and to distance himself from this dark and dangerous world he never was interested in. He went to college at Oxford in London, gained his PhD and became an English professor over there. Chosen as the Godfather of his brother’s adorable little girl, Christian returns home for his niece’s christening and this time he’s back to stay. Running away is no longer the solution for him and now that he’s secured a position with NYU, he’s determined to find a way to be closer to his family without being a part of The Family. But things get complicated when Christian meets Mia Ricci, a beautiful and sexy artist with ties to his family AND his family business. From the moment he laid eyes on Mia, Christian knew she was meant for him. Christian falls hard and fast for her, but he knows that she will never be safe as long as she works with Nic. Mia is just as affected by him as he was by her. She wants to be his, but not if the price she has to pay is walking away from something that makes her who she is. But Christian wants a chance at forever and he’s very determined to use every weapon in his arsenal to show her who she belonged to.

“Aren’t we an odd pair? You’re a DeLuca in name only, and I’m a Ricci by name but a DeLuca by choice.” “Not for long,” he growled, his entire body tensing as he lifted onto an elbow to glare at me. “You’ll be a DeLuca in name soon enough, but without the ties to the family business.”

Overall, I enjoyed it! I am a huge fan of this series that I find totally addictive and satisfying. This book was sweet, hot, sexy, steamy and totally drama free. From the moment they meet, everything between Christian and Mia goes at record speed. The sexual heat between these two was off the charts. But can you expect anything different from Fiona Davenport? The story is exactly what you expect and if you like these kinds of stories like I do, then you'll enjoy this.

It's Live!!

**ARC RECEIVED IN EXCHANGE FOR AN HONEST REVIEW **

I can honestly say that I've never read a Fiona Davenport book that I didn't like. This story is no exception.

Christian was the hot, sexy professor. Cousin to Nic and older brother to Brandon (Mafia Ties) He separated himself from the "family" business by living abroad and becoming a professor. He loved his family but didn't want to be a part of that life. He had the growly alpha down pat and stepped into the caveman zone more than once.

Mia was the little sister of Carly, Brandon's wife. She wasn't born into the mafia life but was embraced by them and protected. She was beautiful, intelligent and strong minded. She didn't let Christian completely bulldozer her. She wanted Christian but wasn't going to completely back down from his demands.

- no cheating
- no ow/om drama whatsoever
- very mild pushing away (lasted a day)
- instalove
- virgin heroine - no mention of hero's sexual past whatsoever
- no violence of any nature
- just ok epilogue

Another great OTT Alpha story from Fiona Davenport. I love these quick, steamy little reads. This novella is part of the Mafia Ties series. Christian has stayed away from the family because he wants no part of the mafia. He lives in England and only came home for his niece's christening. This is where he meets Mia Ricci. Mia is tied to the mafia through her sisters marriage to Christian's cousin. It's instant love for these two and when he finds out that Mia is doing forgery work for the mafia, he's not having it. The level headed Christian soon turns into a caveman who is obsessed. If you aren't a fan of Insta-love or OTT Alpha, stay away. If you are, you are going to love this couple! This is a low angst and safe read. ARC provided by Author.

I always loved and enjoyed Fiona Davenport's books. I loved this Mafia Ties series and I hope they write more mafia stories. It's hard to find  safe ones like this series.

The story is about Christian and Mia.

He's Nic's cousin and Brandon's older brother (previous Hs). They're the DeLuca family who lead the Italian mafia but he was never interested to be a part of the mafia. He went away to distance himself and became a professor. Now, he's back to stay.

Mia is Enzo's sister-in-law (Christian's older cousin and the enforcer of Nic). She's an artist and also working for the mafia.

Christian knew she's the one for him the first time he saw her and it didn't take him long to have her but Mia wanted him to accept her being a part of the mafia family so they made a compromise.

It has a nice epilogue.

Christian decided a long time ago that he did not want to be a part of all that being a DeLuca entails, as in the "family" *wink wink* business.  So, he removed himself by moving to London to attend college, and later earn a position as a professor at the same institution. However, as he loves his family dearly, and they are expanding through marriage and children, he decides to return home and secures a position at a nearby school allowing him to do so. At his niece's christening, he sees her, and she becomes his obsession.

Mia, an artist, isn't a DeLuca by blood, but marriage as her sister fell in love with Enzo, the head of the family, Nic's, cousin and enforcer. She's also been using her skills to become invaluable to the family. As she's attending a family event with her sister and brother-in-law, she lays eyes on Christian, and is instantly attracted, as well as resigned to nothing happening, knowing he'll be leaving again soon...except, he's not.

The love is instant (the best kind to read about), the chemistry is explosive, and future plans are already being made. However, Christian doesn't want Mia to continue working for his family, but to instead focus on her actual art. Yet, Mia likes what she does, whether or be legal or not.

Can these two work out a compromise to ensure they're both happy with the result? Or will their first disagreement be their last, causing them to realize it won't work out? Pfft...we know, as devoted Fiona fans, it's all going to be okay. So, on that note, one-click this book, get comfy, and prepare for a HEA.

Although I'm behind reading the series, I hope Fiona Davenport continues this series. There are so many memorable secondary characters in this series that needs their stories told: Nic's cousins or Brandon's brothers, Carly's second, Tommy and even Meghan, Carly's bff. (HINT-HINT)

What I enjoyed about Christian and Mia's smexy story was how quickly the professor fell for the artist, Mia! But with Mia doing some jobs for Nic Deluca, how she put Christian before the mafia leader! If you thought Nic and Brandon were OTT cavemen, well the professor, Christian was more so!

Obsession: Mafia Ties: Christian & Mia

I Picked Up This Book Because: I wanted a quick read and I’ve loved previous installments of Mafia Ties

The Characters:

Mia Ricci:
Christian DeLuca:

The Story:

Well I got what I asked for, a quick read. That doesn’t mean I’m happy with it. Most of this story happens within 24 hours. Christian and Mia are in love and Christian is ready to be married before he even speaks one word to Mia. I cannot suspend reality for this but I won’t continue to complain as that would make this review longer than the book. I did enjoy the second half of the story.

Writing: Okay.
Forward Motion: Fine
Overall Interest: It was rough in the beginning
Length of Reading Time: Took longer than I wanted due to lack of interest
Re-read-ability: No.

Love these ladies apart and love them that much more together. Fiona Davenport is one of the queens of smutty novellas and this Mafia series is absolutely dynamite.

Sexy. Intense. Intriguing. Captivating.
Over the top alpha in all the swoony ways.
A heroine you'll be rooting for.

Obsession is the latest standalone story in this addicting series and what an epic story it was. I forgot how much I missed this series so a quick reread then this newest book was just what I needed...and watching the unforgettable journey of Mia and Christian unfold was epic in every way.

If you like safe, easy, and insta-everything then these ladies and this series are definitely for you.

I highly recommend this book.

"Obsession" is the story of Mia and Christian.

I had adored this series when it came out, but somehow missed this addition/conclusion to the series.

The hero is a sexy professor De Luca, the heroine works for the family.
Their eyes meet during a family Christening ceremony, and instant lust sparks.
Soon they eye-fck and engage in the hanky panky, and the hero is ready to claim his woman and breed with her like a bunny. She is reluctant for like a minute, but then he chases and seduces her, confessing his undying love.
After a minor hiccup, they have their HEA.

Well written with likable characters and hot sex. Would have rated higher if it had any angst or oomph.

I would have to give this book a 3,5 star rating just for the length alone. The storyline was an instant love at first sight theme. I guess I just expected more and not saying that this book won't be liked by others because it most likely will be, I just happen to like more of a build up in my stories.

This one was okay I enjoyed reading this family, it was steamyish novella and the last one (for now) for this series. I wouldn't mind another.

For a professor who dislikes the family business he was pretty alpha and bossy with the family?? Now idk if that can happen in this line of work?

i had mix feelings about Christian due to the fact he kinda bossed around Mia in her job with the family not wanting her involved with it when Mia family is well invovled? now i understand his point but she been doing this for awhile and Nic wouldnt let anything happen to her.. i just didn't love like how he acted since they just met.. :/ I did enjoy that Mia did stand up and was like nope.. but did compromise with Christian about working for the family.

This story is my least favorite story by the amazing Fiona Davenport. I felt like the story was rushed, thrown together, and had absolutely zero basis to be considered a Mafia story.

After falling in love and encouraging readers to devour Nic and Anna and Brandon and Carly's story, I was chomping at the bit for a follow up story. Unfortunately this story fell way flat. At least for me. I couldn't connect with the characters or the storyline.

This review is my personal opinion of this story only and should not influence your experience with the author or this book. Davenport is AH-MAZING and definitely one of my go to authors! I can't wait for her next release!

Opposed to what other reviews state, it actually infuriated me how easily she went along with whatever Christian wanted. She was adamant that she needed to do her job but then goes against it because of a man she met a few hours ago. Then again, maybe that’s just me hoping she would have a backbone.

Some say she fought too much. Honestly, she didn’t fight enough. I’d hope that women understand that relationships go both ways and if a man wanted to marry me, he’d damn well better respect my decisions.

Their compromise consisted of his wants and her rolling over to please him.

Probably my least favourite book from Fiona Davenport which is disappointing because this series is probably my favourite. Anna and Carly set a high standard for me only to be disappointed by Mia.

This is a novella in the Mafia Ties series by the fabulous duo that makes up Fiona Davenport. Christian DeLuca is Brandon's older brother (from Pursuit, Power, and Passion) and Nic's cousin (Deception, Danger, and Devotion). He left NYC to go to college at Oxford, in London so he could distance himself from the "family business". He went on to get his PhD and became an English Professor at Oxford as well. He was surprised when Brandon and Carly asked him to be their daughter, Reagan's Godfather but it was also a wake-up call. He loves his family and running away wasn't the answer so he's back in the city to stay. He secured a position at NYU and he'll start as an English Professor there in the fall. Everyone is gathered in church for the christening when he sees the most beautiful woman. Mia can't help but stare at the sexy Professor standing in front of the altar in church. Her parents died when she was 16 and her older sister, Camila raised her after that. She graduated from college with a double major in Studio Art and Art History. Her sister married Enzo DeLuca, Nic and Brandon's cousin who is an Enforcer for the family. She also works for Nic, using her art skills to forge passports and other official documents. Christian knows five minutes after he starts talking to Mia that he's in love with her and they will be married. Mia definitely feels the strong connection between them but what will Christian think when he finds out she works for the family ?

I was pulled right into this short story. The story has secrets, twists & turns and steam.

If you have not read the below I would recommend reading those books(s) first
Deception (Mafia Ties, #1)
Danger (Mafia Ties #2)
Devotion (Mafia Ties #3)
Pursuit (Mafia Ties: Brandon & Carly book 1)
Power (Mafia Ties: Brandon and Carly book 2)
Passion (Mafia Ties : Brandon & Carly #3)

This is Mia and Christian's story. Christian didn’t want the lifestyle his family has. He moved away and is a professor. But when he comes home to celebrate his niece’s christening he runs into Mia. He wants her from the start but she is somehow mixed up with his family. Can he figure out what she is doing with his family? Or will noting matter except claiming her as his own? Mia knows as soon as Christian finds out her secrets he will leave her. But will his obsession for her keep him coming back for her? Even after he learns all her secrets?

I loved these characters and the side characters. I could connect with the characters and the story was a great read.

I highly recommend this book.

3.5 stars. This was a quick, enjoyable, insta-love read. This is Mia and Christian's story. Christian is the professor brother of Nick Deluca, head of the Deluca mafia family. Mia is an artist and the sister in law to Enzo, who also is a member of the mafia. The couple meets at a family baptism. Christian has just moved back to town and he knows the instant he lays eyes in Mia that she is the one for him. Mia feels the connection too, although she needs some coaxing and convincing by Christian that he is serious. It all works out for the two in the end. I liked both Mia and Christian. This was a fun, short and sexy read!

Obsession (Mafia Ties, #3) by Fiona Davenport

HERO - Christian DeLuca. Former English professor at Oxford University, but will start teaching at New York University in the fall. Tall with dark hair and a closely trimmed beard. Dark brown eyes and wears glasses.

HEROINE - Mia Ricci. Artist. Softly curled light-brown hair that falls below her waist. Hazel eyes.

OVERALL THOUGHTS - I struggled with this one the entire way through to the point that I just started skimming to get it over with. This is by far my least favorite of the Mafia Ties series. I found both main characters to be annoying and one-dimensional and the lukewarm push/pull over her being part of "The Family" instead of just the family was silly.

I’m not going to do a deep dive on everything I disliked about it because it’s not worth it. The story and characters were very surface level, I was bored most of the time, and I just couldn’t bring myself to care about them or their relationship.

I enjoyed the first books in this series, but I didn't realize we'd be getting more! I love this author and their characters' insta-love exploits!

Christian DeLuca is the brother of the hero from the second 3-book set in this series, Brandon. He's a professor, and he's been living in London since going to college at Oxford. He took great pains to leave town and distance himself from the "family business". But, once Brandon's baby girl was born, Christian realized he was missing out on being with his family, so he decided to return to New York permanently. He comes home just in time for his niece's christening, and almost as soon as he arrives, he sees Mia.

Mia Ricci's older sister married into the DeLuca family, and brought Mia right along with her. She's even tangentially involved in the "business" side of the family, via her expert artwork. When she spies a man she's never seen before at the baby's christening, she's immediately taken with him. Then, she realizes who he is and is immensely disappointed, since she knows he lives in London. But, Christian pursues her immediately, and she's so gaga for him that she can't believe her luck. However, she knows he won't like her being involved in the mafia in ANY WAY, since he's worked so hard to never deal with that side of his family's life. But, she's underestimating how much Christian wants her to be his.

Christian and Mia's chemistry was off the charts hot, and I loved their banter. They were both surprised by their instant connection. They both were also surprised by Christian acting in such a way as the other men in his family are known to act around their women (read: like a neanderthal), when he's always thought himself above such displays. But, it was working for both of them (and me too!) so they went with it. I really enjoyed them getting to know each other and compromise like adults when it came to their issues, instead of anything getting to angsty.

This was a single story, as opposed to 1 of 3 as the prior 2 couples have been, and personally I enjoy that a lot more. I don't do cliffys! So, that made me very happy, and I enjoyed this one more because of that fact. Also, Fiona is always good for an awesome epilogue, which I am a big fan of as well! I really enjoyed this one, and recommend it highly!

ARC for honest review not 4 stars but 4.5 stars

so here is another mafia insta love lust romance...we meet Mia and Christian

Christian is a professor who has removed himself from the "family", not wanting anything to do with anything illegal and moving to a new country but since his brother has married and had a baby girl plus named Christian as Godfather he had to return home for the christening

Mia is an artist who is a sister to Camila that is married to Enzo that is in the mafia who is cousins with Christian...anyway he looks at her, she looks at him and wala an alpha is born...the only problem is Christian wants nothing to do with the family aka mafia...but because Mia loves the "family" she also works for them and he is determined to stop that

i really enjoyed this book and if you have read any of the mafia books of Fiona's then this the book for you...now i did enjoy it but the only thing that really bothered me was that Mia kept saying she was not going to stop working for the family and that she loved them blah blah blah...im like girl you have your self a fine ass man who wants to be with you and wants you to be safe but here you go being silly <----eye roll

Unfortunately, I really hated this one. Mia just killed it for me... talk about TSTL, and an ungrateful wench. Sorry the love of your life showed up and wants to take care of you. /sarcasm I didn't find Christian particularly "alpha", and the fact that Mia still listened to and took orders from Nic made me really feel that way even more so. I got to chapter 13, and that meeting between Mia and Nic, and I was done. Skimmed to the end of the book. I don't care how it ended.

Safety: We never hear anything about Christian's sexual history. Mia was a virgin, but there isn't a big deal made about that either (I personally like it when that is acknowledged and kind of a big deal to the H/h). If you've seen How to Be Single, lets just say that Mia basically falls into Christian's "dick sand" from the get go, and she fights him and herself for the rest of the book. One bad choice after another, then she directly goes against what Christian asked (she went to the hand off, he asked her not to do that), and somehow Christian just gives in and lets her get away with whatever she wants. Nah. Pass.
No abuse, violence, or anything like that in this book.

Mafia Ties series

Trigger warning
Death of parents

Christian DeLuca (mmc, professor)
Brandon (brother of mmc, cousin to Nic)
Carly (married Brandon, head of Irish Mob)
Nic (head of Italian Mafia, mfc boss)
Mia Ricci (mfc)

Christian is home from London to go to the christening of his niece. He had tried to stay away from the mafia aspect of his family, but being chosen as the godfather to Brandon's firstborn meant it was time to come home to stay. He wanted his family without the drama of *The Family *. One look at Mia, and he was ready to make her his. But she works for Nic in the *Family* business. She was raised by her sister, who married into the DeLuca family. When Christian finds out, he tells Nic she quits and hauls her out of the office. Will she keep her job or get her man? What compromise could they possibly make, especially when the Bratva gets involved?

Only Nic, Carly, and Brandon were supposed to know that Brandon killed Carly's da, not her. But somehow, Christian knows? This was not a dark one. It was quick, fast, and easy.

An intellectual DeLuca with British manners is an irresistible temptation for an artist with heavy ties with his Mafia family.

I'm so happy to be reading a new FD's novella. These little morsels of smut romance are so delicious. This time, a brother to Brandon comes for a family event and falls head over heels in love with a talented woman who stirs his caveman passion and poses a challenge.

I absolutely adored this couple. They have a great first conversation followed by incredibly hot encounters, his possessive plans for the future together in the middle of a Mafia environment, and her successful attempts at keeping her independence while yielding to his kisses all over her body. I really liked the scene at the restaurant 😍

Besides the numerous intimate moments, I enjoyed her job, his British vocabulary, the beautiful and funny epilogue, and the possibility of a future story featuring an Irish hunk.

OBSESSION is an insta-love romance novella about hot professor, Christian DeLuca , and stunning artist, Mia Ricci. He stayed away from his family's Mafia lifestyle but the minute he sees Mia, he knew he was staying for good and claiming her as his. Mia worked for the Mafia and was passionate about her job. They were both willing to compromise. But nothing could stop Christian's overwhelmingly hot obsession for Mia.

Obsession is a wonderful standalone addition to the Mafia Ties collection. I loved all the books in this series and I'm so glad Christian got his own story. He's an over the top alpha-male and even if he didn't live as a Mafia, he was as every bit as naughty and fierce when it came to the woman who captured his heart. I am excited to read more from this series!

I have read an advanced copy of this book and this is a fair and honest review and recommendation voluntarily shared.

I love love these authors and I there is comfort when I get to read their love stories. Fiona Davenport knows how to write quick, sexy, funny, and strong characters. What is more exciting in this book is that some of my favorite characters from their Mafia ties series make an appearance.

What is so awesome about Obsession: One very sexy smart professor, that happens to be born into the mob. Now throw in a very smart and sexy art history major. Christian is wanting more in life and moving home to be close to family is what he needed, just seeing Mia at his god daughters baptized solidified. Mia is helping out in the "family business" and now she has this pull to someone just met.

This is quick, this is sexy and this is smart.

Christian is in town for the christening of his niece and godchild. Christian is from a mob family but he isn’t in the mob. Mia on the other hand is involved with the mob. Christian sees Mia at the christening and definitely wants to know more about her. Mia is drawn to Christian also but not sure how they make it work because they live two different lives. Christian is very determined to make her is no matter the cost.

I thought this was a good read. Christian is moving back home from being away for awhile and he immediately drawn to Mia and wants to know more about her. Christian and Mia’s chemistry was hot from the moment that they laid eyes on each other and only intensified over time. I can’t wait to read more!!!
