Overall a great guide for a first-time visit to Havana.
BUT ... Lonely Planet warns against pick pockets and encourages the tourist to keep their extra cash in the hotel safe. My safe at Hotel Inglaterra was broken into by hotel staff and cash was stolen. When confronted, they denied, denied, denied. After I returned home a quick Google search made it plain that other tourists have also been victims of robbery at Inglaterra.
On the other hand, not once in my 10-day stay did I feel unsafe on the streets of Havana, even late at night. I'm a small woman and strolled Old Havana, expensive camera slung over my shoulder, with no inkling that I was being targeted.
