From EPPIE Award winner Kathryn Sullivan come stories of magic and off-world adventure sure to appeal to readers of all ages. Here are tales of wizards training apprentices and interstellar operatives protecting “primitive” worlds. How does one university cope with a student from very far away, and where do some wizards get their supplies? And what’s the deal with the cat whiskers?
The Zumaya Thresholds edition includes new stories and old favorites, all certain to keep pages turning and imaginations stirred.
Short stories of various lengths. Some fantasy, some straight science fiction, at least one was both. Stories are readable and most held my attention. My favorite was Transfer Student. I encourage you to at least read the free preview of the ebook which contains the full first story plus at least part of the second (sorry, I didn't note how far it went). I liked that first story.
Some of the stories use the same main character. Some are tomato surprises, which are fun to read once but usually not nearly as much fun to reread. Almost all of the POV characters are female, often teen or new adult age.
This is a truly delightful collection of short stories. If one doesn't work for you, try the next, as there is so much variety in the options here. There are several that are connected, taking place in a shared world or continuing a story, and these were always about characters that I wanted to learn more about.
I will definitely be looking for more of Kathryn Sullivan's work in the future.
Kathryn Sullivan delivers a fun mix of magic and sci fi in this engaging collection. The stories are creative, clever, and perfect for readers of all ages. From wizard apprentices to off world adventures, there’s something here for everyone. A great read that sparks the imagination!
