This is the final book in Sue Wyshynski’s “Girl on Fire” series and it was quite the adventure. Aeris trusts the wrong person and finds herself and Nessa stranded on a research ship filled with scientists who want nothing more than to study her. She finds herself with no choice but to trust and work with one of her kidnapper’s employees to try and help her escape as she still needs to use her mother’s research notes to decipher a cure for herself and the rest of the Winterborn survivors.
I really enjoyed this final book. Loyalties are tested as two groups who have always been sworn enemies are forced to work together. So many questions were answered and you learn a lot about Aeris’s mother and why she was so determined to find a cure. Even still, it was action packed almost to the end and I could hardly put it down. This is definitely a series that you want to read.
I was given an ARC by the author in exchange for my honest review. Thank you Sue !!
And so we have reached the end of this absolutely original and scintillating story. And loved every bit of it !! I give Ms.Sue full marks for the originality of the paranormal quotient in this series.
Book 3 begins where we left at the end of Book 2. And I am going to try my best to avoid spoilers here. But you might get hints :D . Aeris and Nessa have together escaped from the Tribunal by taking help from someone they trust to be their well-wisher. But apparently, they have been duped and are now being held as prisoners. The Infinity Gene makes Aeris better than the other recasters, because her Grandfather has used his DNA while designing the butterfly code. And with Aeris sharing his DNA, it has fit her perfectly, allowing her to read minds. Aeris now realizes that this kidnapper, is aware of the uniqueness of her blood now and wants to use it to make more super people like Aeris. They want to try the experiment on Nessa too. Aeris will be needing more support to rescue Nessa and stop this insanity. She escapes, Hunter finds her and together they make a team to overcome the bad guy and rescue Nessa and Gage. The plot however, does not end there. Aeris is determined to find the cure her mother had died for and she realizes the clue for that is in a poem/song, her mother used to sing for her. And so progresses the quest for the cure. I loved the place where the cure was hidden !!!
There were many wow moments throughout the book. I loved how the recasters and Gage's troupe bond against a common enemy. I loved their battering !! Jane was a very pleasant surprise and I loved her courage and pure soul. I was sad about the loss of life at the end of the fight, but I guess collateral damage is expected. I liked Aeris visiting her mom's life and getting to know her better. I loved Gage's and Nessa's reunion. But most of all, Amarok and Phoenix blew me away !! I mean, it was such a fulfilling and peaceful closure to such a fast paced plot. I specially loved all the scenes showing their camaraderie and bond. And Amarok's folklore about making the little boy strong ?? So fascinating.. I actually googled to find if I could get more info !!
I did have some concerns too. I initially thought that the cure was totally altering the modification. But, I realize it's a cure for the recasting only. And Brewster King ?? Yah, just abrupt. Nothing is clear about Nessa, is she the new Renesmee (hope, you get my drift). But looking at the bigger picture, these are just small points.
I would have given the book 4 stars had it not been for Amarok and Phoenix. Simply amazing !
If I had tried to review the earlier books by themselves it would have been kind of incomplete. Now I can boldly say that the books are brilliant, imaginative and hold the interests of the readers so tight that they cannot put the book down without finishing it.
This book continues to follow the adventures of Aries Thorne as she is struggling to find the final cure for all their conditions. She and Hunter manage to unite the other Ultrahumans and other changed humans like Gage and his friends. Gage has been wired so that he has become a puppet in the power of Martin who has got Brewster King killed and his daughter Nessa kidnapped.
How the complete group of the Ultrahumans and other super beings achieve their objectives of freeing Gage, Nessa and Jane from the grips of Martin, annihilate Martin so he cannot create any more super and ultras forms the content of this exhilarating and enthralling book.
Bittersweet ending to a story of love everlasting.
I wish I could have read the whole book as it was intended but for some strange reason parts of the text were missing. Every so often, a page was just missing. I found that to be distracting. However, I read on and enjoyed this tale immensely. Is this the end? Is a sequel in the works? I want to know what will happen to all the characters, the infinite possibilities. I guess that is what makes a writer successful, being able to grip a reader like she's gripped me!
I had the first book for a while, but wasn't in a rush to read it. Then I opened it to see if I was even going to keep it. The first page grabbed me , I couldn't put it down, and was mentally kicking my fanny for having denied myself this wonderful story for so long. This trilogy is spectacular.
The plot is mesmerizing....just to feel super powers through the characters guides to saving the lives as necessary to protect the butterflies. Wow! Loving the strength of in author which is demonstrated in multiple fashion,
Easy to understand and very interesting story line. Best books I read this year. Thrilling, exciting and romantic. You can't wait how he book ends. Read all 3 books in 3 days.
This series was very good. I devoured the entire thing in like two days. The conclusion was beautiful and spiritual (ties to indigenous culture mythology and connections to earth and animals instead of any type of formal religion). The romance was quasi insta-love, but in the end I liked it anyways. I rated the first two books as three stars because the main character's shame complexes were somewhat frustrating. And the hate and blame those same characters got from other characters kind of made me want to court mandate therapy for everyone. Like...you were five years old, you did the best you could. And people, stop blaming the five year old for all your damn problems. FIVE YEARS OLD. They probably can't even tie their own shoes and you want to put the weight of the world on them? Plus the whole 'I must do this on my own to prevent anyone else from getting hurt...which ends up getting ALL the people hurt' thing. (Although to be fair, that's a trope I see pretty much all the time. It's frustrating. Even though in real life I do literally that exact same thing. What can I say? I'm complicated.) That aside, the story was intriguing and suspenseful. The writing was really good. The ending was (for me) an excellent way to bring the series to a close.
