All Ana Devlin has ever wanted was a home for her younger half-siblings. Now she has half a mansion plus half a fortune to go with it. But what good is sanctuary when her family insists on creating chaos and endangering lives in their relentless pursuit of justice?
Bent on revenging old debts, Ana’s mother, Magda, is back in town, making a mockery of a powerful presidential candidate. Ana’s brother Nick has found a boyfriend—who nearly gets them both killed for blowing the whistle on a pharmaceutical company’s dangerous painkiller. Ana’s lover, Graham, is out to destroy a Russian hacker who dared attack his secret servers. Her sister Patra is breaking the news story of the century—connecting drug lords and politicians and dangerously wealthy industrialists.
And Ana is the one who is in jeopardy. Can a family of geniuses really be worth the effort?

Twisted Genius (Family Genius Mystery) (Volume 5) by Patricia Rice
Another fun Family Genius romp from Patricia Rice! The gang is all here as Ana, Graham, and Magda work to take down the men behind the shady Top Hat organization. We dig deeper into the past and the shadowy circumstances surrounding the deaths of Magda's first husband.
While you don't have to have read the first four in the series, it might be slightly less confusing. There is a lot going on and a lot ties back into what happens in those first books. Thanks to the world-building Ms. Rice did in those previous volumes, all the pieces are already in place and ready to go in the fifth part of the Family Genius saga.
I can't say that this was my favorite volume in the series, but I did enjoy it. Twisted Genius ties up loose ends and Ms. Rice does a great job of bringing many diverse threads together in the end. All in all another strong book from a great author.
Note: I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
I am really sorry to get to the end of this series, or is it? Ms Rice left plenty of room to continue, and I hope she does. I haven't had such fun for years. The twisted genius is Ana's mother, Magda, who has a presence, but not much of one, throughout the series. I could never quite get a handle on her, so that is certainly an area that could be explored in future books. I also have a sneaking hope that Ana's younger brother who died in an explosion when he was around two could be found to have left the house and toddled off somewhere safe to be raised by complete strangers and so is not dead after all. I really hate it when kids die. Ana and her siblings plus Graham and Mallard make a priceless team that I could follow around forever. Like the others, the action is fast-paced and unusual, so please, please, please, if Ms. Rice ever reads this, give us some more Genius books.
Nice book by Patricia Rice whose books I fully enjoy. This is something totally different from the magic stuff she has written. The book is about Ana Devlin, who lands in total chaos, caused by her family. Her mother Magda is coming into town and is aiming her chaos at a presidential candidate. Her brother Nick has found a boyfriend and is almost blown away by a bomb. Her lover Graham is trying to find a Russian hacker who dared to attack his servers. Ana and Graham are paranoid to say the least. This book is the fifth in a series, and yes, I miss the first four books. It would have made the family history a bit more clear. Other than that, I enjoyed it. A nice fast read by Patricia Rice. Disclaimer: I got this book in the Librarything Early Reviewers.
I received this book as a gift and I offer this honest review and voluntary in return.
This is the first book I have read from this author and, as such, I haven't read prior books in this series. I thought the story was fairly good, but the way it was delivered was disappointing. I thought, the author couldn't really decide whether she was targeting YAs or Adults.I also got really annoyed of the main character's constant referral to her past, and how great she had been in raising her siblings in a war environment after the departure of the parents, especially the mother.
I did read the entire book for courtesy reasons, but it wasn't my cuppa tea.
This isn't a bad ending to the series. At least it feels like an ending. While the political controversy may read a little off to some readers, the series was always heading toward this type of story. It's too bad the controversy over our presidential race can be considered sort of tied into it. I didn't find that many parallels myself, but I understand some others may. It was nice to see Anna finally come to terms with her off/on romantic relationship. I think for the series to grow, it will have to take the focus off Anna and put it on some of the other siblings.
I love to see Ana and her amazing family grow closer and "conquer" the evil cabal?! Graham is also coming out of his shell, miracles still happen! I wonder if this the end or if there another tentacle coming from the octopus that is Top Hat.
What can I say? This series was so refreshing, so completely different from all the other romantic suspense books that I have read. This might be the end of this series as it seems to have finally resolved most issues, but I'm hoping for more!!
When I discovered that there were five books in the series, naturally, I started on Book One and read each one in consecutive order. I enjoyed all the books, and each one has its own complicated mystery, and I was amazed with the outcome of each one. All the characters seem real to me, and I'm fond of the family. All these books are well worth the time to read them.
From beginning to end, this was a fun page-turner of a series. Intentionally over-the-top, but with realistic emotions and motivations. If Patricia Rice decides to revisit this family at some point in the future, I'll definitely be first in line to join them.
