I have been waiting for Noah's book for a long time. Ever since I started this series, I've wanted to read his book. I'm glad to say I really enjoyed this one.

Noah's is Dylan's (book 1) best friend. Dylan used to be best friends with Noah's boyfriend Rick, but after Rick died from HIV, Dylan and Noah formed a deep bond together.

Noah is known as the party guy, the guy who only does "one off's" and the guy who turns everything into a sexual innuendo. But Noah is so much more than that. Inside he is fighting his own demons....

Enter Ky (spelled the same as KY-lube...Noah's words, not mine)

Ky, was Memphis' surgeon in book 2, he's also a Texas cowboy and very closeted gay man. Noah is struck with an instant case of attraction...especially for the man's cowboy-boots ;)

Ky feels the same attraction towards Noah, but there is a reason he's in the closet and he's not sure if he is ready to step out and face the consequences.

These two have some serious issues to deal with, one a bit more than the other and being together isn't easy. Especially when hives becomes one of those issues.

They were also pretty hot though and I loved the two of them together. They were great characters. Noah and almost everything that came out of his mouth, (since he lacks any kind of filter) was very funny.

I was a bit worried about the "dead spouse" trope, but I shouldn't have been. Rick does have a part in this story, but I never got the feeling that Ky was second best and neither did Ky.

I think out of all three books, this one is my favorite. Though it's been a long time since I've read book 1, so maybe it's time for a re-read ;)

I loved catching up with all the other characters, Alec, Tyler, Memphis and especially Dylan. The parts about Dylan and Noah were bittersweet.

Very enjoyable 4 star read for me :)

3.5 Stars!

This was the book that would never come. Seems like I waited 3 years or something. I elected not to go back and re-read the first two books.

I remembered very little about the previous books and/or characters which probably worked to my advantage.

This one had a bit of a slow start, I was a bit bored. But then it kind of grew on me. I really liked Ky's character. Noah was a bit of a wear out at times but at other times I found him quite funny. He had zero filter.

Lower on the steam side, but some pretty hot moments. *cough* paring knife *cough*

With a closeted MC, a dead significant other and well Noah things could have definitely gone awry in this book but I was pleased with how things played out.

The writing was good. And I'm excited for the authors new series, which we got a peak at.

The Backup Boyfriend was one of the first M/M romances I read, and boy howdy was it a great intro to the genre. After reading M/M almost exclusively for the past 2-1/2 years, it still ranks near the top of my Favorites shelf. The Boyfriend Mandate was equally great, and I especially liked how the two books fit together as interlocking parts of the whole. River Jaymes layers experiences, feelings and events, and the emotional payoff is huge and incredibly moving.

For example, during The Backup Boyfriend, Tyler remains a distant presence, only referenced in connection to his relationship with Alec. But only after reading The Boyfriend Mandate do you really understand the dynamics of Alec and Tyler's relationship, what happened, and how that affected Alec and Dylan. And the history between Memphis and Tyler? The emotions were so intense, and worth waiting for. So to say I've been anxiously awaiting Noah's story for the better part of two years is not an exaggeration.

Was The Boyfriend Makeover worth the wait? Well, in many ways, yes. We meet physician Kyland Davis briefly in The Boyfriend Mandate, and once Ky and Noah reconnect over a fashion makeover Ky needs for the upcoming Bachelor Bid fundraiser, they start to generate some serious sexual heat. Ky is very carefully closeted (and for what amounts to some fairly valid reasons) but he can't seem to resist Noah's charm and wicked ways. And Noah loves nothing more than sexy innuendos, fabulous one-night stands and great fashion.

But Noah purposefully wades in the shallow end of the emotional pool and the first half of the book feels slow as Noah flirts non-stop with Ky, while Ky deflects Noah with wry comments and non-answers. Even as Noah and Ky have some pretty damn hot sex (featuring a paring knife!) and later on just about every surface in and around Ky's family ranch house in Texas, there is still an emotional distance between the two men.

Turns out Noah isn't past grieving for Rick, and he has "learned to survive and thrive, of a sort, but only in the shallowest of worlds." But what I missed in this book was learning about Rick and Noah's relationship, other than one fairly brief scene. Because it's hard to get a handle on what they meant to each other, it's equally hard to understand how broken Noah is.

After the slowness in the middle of the book, the ending felt a bit too hurried.

I gave the first two books in the series 5 stars, and The Boyfriend Makeover is a solid 4 stars for me.

I received a copy of the book from the author in exchange for an honest review.

3.4 stars actually.

Although the book had its good moments and some very heartwarming moments and nicely written howwt scenes, the drama and dramatic past events were too much for my liking.
I would have liked more space dedicated to Noah and Ky's relationship development and their time being together. I remember the first book being all about the MC's and their relationship rather than traumatic happenings from the past that still feel too fresh in the present.

I don't know if there's gonna be another book in this series, but I'm very skeptical about reading it.

One of the most anticipated books in years, and it was good. Not great, but good.

What worked:
-Delicious relationship angst
-Some hot, and I mean HAWT, sex - one particular episode that seemed to go on for hours
-We got to see a lot of Dylan, Alec, Tyler, and Memphis
-The writing style of this author really works for me

What didn't work:
-Time jumps where integral relationship-development happened
-The first quarter was sloooooow. I'd go as far as to say boring.
-Some little tidbits were far-fetched (i.e. a story where five-year-old Noah was called a "queen" by a fellow kindergartner and then Noah stood on his desk and told them all to "fuck off" - cuz that sounds like a normal Kindergarten class, right?)
-I didn't buy the declarations at the end. Since we missed some integral friendship forming pieces of time, I could clearly buy the attraction and want, but not the love. Nope.
-The epilogue was less than satisfying. It made me think they weren't as "solid" as they should be.

I still think Alec and Dylan's book is, by far, the best of the series. But I'd say to readers to give this one a go. I wouldn't tell you to rush it ahead of other reads, but it was still good.

The Boyfriend Makeover is a book I've been looking forward to for a long time. Ever since reading The Backup Boyfriend, I've wanted Noah's story. And it was...not as good as I had hoped it would be. It was an alright story, don't get me wrong, but it was missing something...

Some things that did not work for me:
The first quarter, or so, of The Boyfriend Makeover was super slow, to the point of being boring. It had trouble keeping my attention. I thought there was too much focus on traumatic past events. How many years has it been since Rick died? It's been a long time, but Noah still acted like it was a recent event. Now, I know there is no time limit for grief, and I'm not saying at all that Rick should be forgotten, I just thought it was over played.

Also, the author had a tendency, during sex scenes, to refer to one of the MC's as "the man" or "the guy", rather than using their name, and it took me out of the narrative every single time.

Examples:
"He threaded his fingers through the guy's hair."

and
"He gripped the man's elbows."

and also,
"Without so much as a warning, the man swallowed his cock deep."

To me, that's just awkward and impersonal. If they were from an anonymous hookup at a club or something, that would be one thing, but they're not. And all of those examples were from a single scene -- and I didn't quote all the examples from that scene, either.

But thankfully, there was enough I liked to keep me reading the story.

The sex, which there is plenty of, was steamy and full of emotion, even if Noah didn't want to be feeling it, and it was a highlight of the book for me.

Noah is a pretty screwed up guy who needs therapy more than he needs that next one-night-stand. There is so much he simply has not dealt with and it's keeping him from finding happiness. He prides himself on being the life of the party and always being the happy, jokey guy, but all that is a front to hide just how miserable he really is. If he doesn't give himself time to slow down, he doesn't have to think about his past or what he might want from life. Avoidance, is Noah's MO. And Noah's favorite form of avoidance is sex. Talking about sex, having sex, innuendo....anything to keep his thoughts from turning inward.

Ky, I absolutely loved. He's self assured and knows what he wants, he's just not sure if he can have it. He spent two decades in the closet because of his homophobic asshole of a step-father, just because he didn't want to damage the relationship his sisters had with their dad. His sisters mean everything to him and he just didn't want to do anything that might cause them pain. Do I think that was a good decision? No, I don't, but I get why he thought it was the way to go. Now, thankfully, they're smart women and they figured him out long ago. They were just waiting for him to trust in them. Family -- sometimes it's a good thing.

I completely agreed with Ky's decision to break things off with with Noah until Noah faces himself and figures out what he really wants. To me, it was the only way they would even have a chance. I'm not sure I buy just how quickly Noah made his turn around, but on the other hand, perhaps he just needed a little push to do something he already wanted to do.

All in all, I'd give The Boyfriend Makeover three "not great, not terrible" stars.

This is going to be a quick review. I'll admit to being a little let down by this story. It was good...just not riveting. But I absolutely do not regret spending the time reading/listening to it.

The book is about Noah, a slightly flaming gay guy who's wracked with guilt over his partner's death. He's obviously gay and the party guy in this group of friends, but that happy exterior is hiding some dark secrets. The other half of this duo is Ky, a good old boy surgeon from Texas who's very much in the closet. He doesn't know what to do with Noah.

The two had good chemistry. It was just at times the story kind of dragged with the same mental debates over and over again. I think a few thousand words could have been cut and this book would have been stronger for it...because it was good. The story just didn't move fast enough...for my liking.

My two cents. It was good enough and definitely if you're a fan of the series, you will want to read Noah's story. There were moments that I really enjoyed and definite highlights. I loved the scenes at the ranch when finally things began to move forward.

⋰⋱⋰⋱⋰⋱*Felt nothing*⋰⋱⋰⋱⋰⋱

The book centers around Noah Tanner (how old?) and Dr. Kyland ‘Ky’ Davis (34). Noah struggles with his past; Rick, his boyfriend died and this has cause some demons to appear. Ky is struggling with the fact that he's gay and no one knows, not even his sister. It's not because he is a coward, it's because his stepdad gave him a ultimatum and Ky doesn't want to cause his sisters pain. But Noah makes him want things he never thought he'd have, and Noah is scared allergic to relationships. Overall, I felt nothing for the book. I didn't like the characters much, I didn't feel any emotions towards them, nor did I feel like there was any connection between the characters. I didn't like Noah; I don't like people who use alcohol for everything. But the main reason for not really liking this book is that I don't feel anything for it. It didn't make me feel.
“How long did it take for you to ‘embrace yourself’?” Ky asked.
“I was five years old at least.”
“That long, huh?” he said, lips quirked. Noah adopted the fake innocent look he seemed to favor. “What?” he said. “Kindergarten was a pivotal year for me.”

Other characters:
Savannah and Sierra Urban, (24) twins and sisters of Ky. Ky practically raised them since he was fourteen and they four, since their mom died.
Ray Urban, father of the twins and Ky's stepdad and a complete homofobia.
Dylan Booth and Alec Johnson, couple, parents of baby Rick and friends of Noah (from book one).
Memphis Haines and Tyler Hall, couple and friends of Noah (from book two).
“Well,” Ky murmured. “That was easy.”
“Easy is my middle name,” he murmured back.
“I thought it was princess?”

Quick basic facts:
Genre: - (Adult) Contemporary Romance (M/M).
Series: - Series (Can Be Read As A Standalone), Book Three.
Love triangle? -
Cheating? -
HEA? -
Favorite character? - Kyland ‘Ky’ Davis.
Would I read more by this author/or of series? - Unsure.
Would I recommend this book/series? - Not really.
Will I read this again in the future? - No.
New Rating - 2 stars.

*3,5 stars*

I loved Alec and Dylan (and read their book three times, I think). I really enjoyed Memphis and Tyler (and there was that scene in the lift which has remained with me ever since *g*), so it is not a surprise that, like so many others, I was very keenly anticipating the release of book #3 in this series.

I actually found Noah pretty OTT in the previous books. He seemed hyperactive like a squirrel-on-crack, dropping sexual innuendos whether they were or weren't appropriate, fluttering around 'straight' guys like a butterfly doused in rainbow coloured pheromones and wooing unavailable men for fun. So, a man of no substance. So it seemed.

Of course we get to know the Noah behind that facade. The highly insecure, riddled by fear and guilt Noah who is suffocating in his own self-contempt. He is fine as long as fine means "Fucked up, Insecure, Neurotic, and Emotional" The man who never really got over what happened with Rick and all the stuff that happened in the aftermath of his death. The man who drowns himself in cocktails and meaningless sex, because he thinks he's not worth loving.

And this is where Ky comes in - he is a dichotomy of a man. A rare mixture between a cowboy and a surgeon ....

Ky has been in the closet forever - and I have to admit I did buy his reasons for staying there. He is one of those highly responsible guys, who protect and care for others, and who take the term 'family' very seriously.

Noah and Ky are an unlikely pair to fall in love, but they do and, in general, I really enjoyed the process. Particularly Ty's sexual 'unraveling!

There are some really memorable sex scenes. Will I even mention the paring knife?

and the cowboy boots...

But although their sexual attraction is palpable, I could not quite understand why they fell in love. Parts of it maybe, but in general their's seemed more a case of infatuation.

I agree with readers who say that the real issues (between the men and for Noah) were left too late to be properly dealt with. I would have preferred to see Noah struggle to get a grips on his problems, rather than be rushed through it towards the end. And he got a job? That came out of nowhere and was mentioned in passing twice. This could have been much more. The same goes for his issue with Dylan and the ending with the rather expected twist. I somehow had hoped for a little bit more drama and angst.

However, it was great fun to see Memphis trying his cooking skills, and Dylan as father. Both totally adorable if I may say so!

I enjoyed this book, but was left with the feeling that it could have been a little bit more!

***** Here we have book three in this series, and we get to see our prior terrific characters here also.
Noah is our troubled man who lost his love, Rick, five years ago to HIV. Noah has secrets he's harbored from his friends that are eating him up from the inside.

Noah is handling the auction for a charity again, and he's asked to makeover

Ky, the cowboy boot-wearing Texas doctor, who'll be up for bid.

Ky has been in the closet from everyone, even his two sisters, because his stepdad threatened him when he was just 15. Noah has the hots for the doctor, but tries to remain professional and upgrade his look. We get to hear the snarky, witty, snappy banter as they move along. These two can hang out, laugh and have a great time together.

We get deep thought-filled characters, who have so much to offer. The story moves along steadily with an interesting tale to tell. Our guys get to the point where Ky finally admits to Noah, he's gay, and then their attraction to each other becomes out of control.
Noah on the ranch...

Their super sexy encounters are exciting, erotic, and very graphic and titillating, with dirty talk, even dirtier play and positions.
These two men should stay together, because their lives would never be dull.

We see a birth, a trip to the TX ranch, a coming out, and finally the auction. There are some teary moments, and hilarious ones as well.

River Jaymes gives us a marvelous story ! I highly recommend this series, and yes, each book can stand alone.
ENJOY !

I've been waiting two years for this book to come out, stalking Amazon and GR faithfully for any sign of a release date. When it came out (no pun intended), I snatched this puppy up like the needy book addict I am, one-clicking so fast, I gave my Kindle whiplash.

I was not disappointed. I loved every page of this book. Both Ky and Noah stole my heart. This is a must read series for any M/M fan. Each book centers on different couples and can be read in any order, but so as not to spoil some of the little details and meet all the boys as they each get their HEA, I would read the series in order.

From the very beginning of the series I was looking forward to Noah's story but I'm sad to say that, in comparison to the other two books, this one was my least favorite. It wasn't a bad story but not as good as the rest of the series. There was some good banter, some sweet and tender moments, and quite a few times I had to chuckle because of Noah's antics but also things that didn't work so well for me.

It took me quite some time to get into it - it was very slow at first and I got distracted during the first 25% of the book to the point of putting it aside and listening to other books. It got better after that and in the end, I was glad I kept listening.

Still, I would have liked more relationship development between Noah and Ky. Their attraction is palpable and their sexual chemistry is off the charts but I couldn't fully buy into them falling in love with each other.

Ky is an awesome guy and I really liked him as a character. His reasons for staying in the closet for so long were believable and made me love and respect him even more.
Noah is, even after so many years of Rick being dead, pretty screwed up. He never really dealt with his grief and his feelings of guilt - at least not in a healthy way. His coping consists of lots of meaningless sex, alcohol, and partying. It takes Ky to make him realize that his way of dealing isn't working and that it's time to face his past. Sadly, I had the feeling that this part was rushed through and because Noah getting better was integral to the guys starting a romantic relationship, I didn't think the guys were as solid by the end of the boos as the author wanted to make it sound. The ending wasn't as satisfying as it could have been and even the epilogue didn't make much of a difference there.

Overall the whole series is enjoyable - the first book was my favorite, followed closely by book two and a slightly disappointing book three.

The Boyfriend Makeover is a sexed up book. If you’re listening on audio you might want to make sure you’re wearing headphones or at least close your car windows otherwise you risk scandalizing yourself to the nosy Parker’s at the stop light. There’s one section that is 30 minutes or so of straight up sexy time. I listened on the drive home from an appointment (with my windows closed and the volume turned waaay down just in case someone thought me a perv), when I got home I put in my headphones, cleaned the kitchen mess everyone had left for me (yes, I know you all want my glamorous life) and played with the dogs ‘til they were huffing and puffing and the couple were still going at it.

But it is about other things too . . .

Noah donates his time to charity events and lives off of a trust fund. He’s a charmer and a smart dresser and gets talked into making over a doctor for the “Bachelor Bid” at his upcoming event. Ky is a workaholic who prefers his cowboy boots, flannel and giant belt buckle to most anything else but he also loves his sisters and agrees to auction himself off after they talk him into it. He thinks the whole thing ridiculous and he’s very uncomfortable but he’s also a very good big brother. Awwww, Ky.

Noah, naturally flamboyant and a shameless flirt can barely contain himself when gorgeous Ky is around. Is he gay? Noah is determined to find out and find out he does . . .

This is a fun book. Noah’s dialogue is ridiculously funny and Ky balances him out. And their chemistry is something else! There’s some angst and some drama as Ky keeps his sexuality to himself for reasons. Reasons that I am not going to spill. Noah drinks too much and his humor masks some deep pain. He has some serious work to do on himself before the two will ever live out a HEA and I like that this book addresses it and doesn’t gloss over it. And then there’s sex. Whew, if you want a steamy read this one’s calling your name!

This is book #3 in a series and I’m sure I would’ve gotten more out of the appearance of the myriad number of friends who pop in and out of the story had I read their stories. It stood alone pretty good though so you’ll get none of my typical mid-series complaints here. Now I want to read the other books just to see what I’m missing.

Narration Notes: I have to say, as much as I loved the story and the characters and all their angst and sexy ways, I wasn’t too crazy about the narrator. He sounded like a newscaster when not doing a character voice and something about his voice just didn’t seem to fit any of the characters. He’s professional and polished but maybe a wee bit too dramatic for this story, eh I don’t know. Instead of falling into the story his voice kept pulling me out.

I received a copy of this book directly from Tantor. Thanks Tantor!

This series makes me happy. I didn't realize the third was out and I one-clicked as soon as I saw it.
This is my favorite of the series by far! Noah is great. The dynamic between him and Ky was wonderful.
It had some definitely angsty, pull the heartstrings moments, but listening to Noah (most of the time) kept a smile on my face. And there was hotness...I find myself thinking about it now like
There was a thing or two in there that didn't work for me, but overall I just ate it up so I let those things go.

You know, I just didn't connect with this story at all. Was the writing bad? No, but I felt no emotional connection. I have heard that the second half of the book is better. I set this aside with thoughts of coming back to it. That works for me sometimes, but when I picked it back my heart started to crawl back in the funk I just barely crawled out of. I think it's best to save the book and myself.

I remembered very little about the previous books, I had to pull up reviews to piece together the finer details, which in all honesty left me feeling pretty lost when I dove into this one. All in all this book was just *Meh* and was just lacking that spark and pizzazz, I guess in the end I just found I didn't connect with the story. I found it so predictable, which for me just isn't all that interesting.

It was okay - I would have liked more relationship building between Noah and Ky. It seemed like most of the build happened off page which just left rote sex scenes and telling what (usually) Noah did. Bummer.

I really, really enjoyed this one!! It took me forever to finish it (OMG over 12 hours!) but I did it. I just loved Noah! He is sweet and adorable, and when he puts his swish on there is no stopping that man, lol.

I am on my phone so my review will be short. :)

If you haven't read this series you NEED to. This entire series is so well done and the audio OH EMM GEEEEEEEEEEEEE. You are totally missing out on the audio. Drunk Noah, sex Noah, Sex Ky, oh yeah, the narrator did a FABULOUS job.

Highly recommend the audio - 10 stars.
The story is 4.5. Mostly because I didn't understand why Ky hid being gay from his sisters, why he didn't tell his stepfather to fuck off, why Noah never had therapy to deal with Rick's death.

Noah is the adorable twink, Ky the silent and reserved Texan- they shouldn't work together as a couple since they have nothing in common. But attraction and friendship don't have rules, and when they finally get to know one another, feelings can blossom.

A loving and sweet story, with a good dose of feelz.

It didn't work for me

Audio and Ebook review

I read and enjoyed the two previous books The Backup Boyfriend and The Boyfriend Mandate and was looking forward listening/reading The Boyfriend Makeover as the ebook is in KU and audiobook is in the Escape package - the previously called Romance Package- but I found myself skipping and falling asleep. Also, there is a lot of homophobia , that the previous books didn't have.

I didn't particularly care for the narration . Voices sounded forced and fake

I am in the minority , many others liked it . So, it might be it's me , not you situation. I am just happy I can return it and move on to another book.

It feels like I was waiting for this book forever and I'm very happy to report that it was worth the wait. I absolutely ADORE Noah and Ky was perfect for him. Their sex was off the charts hot. I also loved seeing the whole group of friends come together and support each other. This was a very satisfying conclusion to the Boyfriend Chronicles.

I enjoyed this one much more than anticipated, seeing as I've essentially put it off for 5+ years... Which is how long it's been since I read the book right before this one, which I didn't particularly enjoy and didn't feel like rereading for a refresher. Thankfully, even though I only veeeery vaguely remembered what happened in that and the previous book, I didn't feel overly lost. Definitely best to read the three books closer together, but if you wait five years like I did, you still should be fine.

I quite liked Noah and Ky here, the tension and build between them, and their unique issue. The smut was hot, if not quite my thing--this is entirely a me issue right now, as I'm I've been in the mood for a particular kind of dynamic, and NONE of the books I've read in the past month have given it to me, and I'm starting to get blueballs, LOL. Truthfully, this would have been at least a four star read for me if it weren't for the climactic moment and resolution, which brought it down for me.

Throughout the book, it's clear Noah's got some unresolved issues relating to the horrible death of his partner many years ago, while Ky is still in the closet to everybody due to abusive manipulation from his step-father. After Ky's issue is essentially taken out of his hands and he's suddenly outed, literally days later it's like he's never had any issues, and he decides that Noah's too fucked up for him, and basically says he needs therapy, and Ky can't be in his life. Which, okay, that's totally valid, but 1. it came pretty out of left field and 2. nothing in that conversation at all felt actually supportive. I left that conversation feeling like Ky had basically abandoned Noah, and at that point I didn't want them to be together. There was a way to tell Noah he needed help, and to set some boundaries around their relationship, while also still being his friend, or even making it clear that Ky was interested in a relationship if Noah was willing to work on himself. But that wasn't what happened, and the way it all went down put a really sour taste in my mouth and nearly ruined the whole book for me. It honestly felt very final, end-of-relationship, and then the way it was framed as if it was up to Noah to like, earn his way back into Ky's good graces just felt kind of icky.

Oh how I loved this book... Noah just made my day. I loved him from the previous two books and I loved him even more in this, his story.
He's funny and such a great friend to his gang. So dedicated to getting funds for the cause he so much believes in. Having lost his boyfriend to HIV left him hurt and completely determined to help as much as he can in his friends' Front Street Clinic, a place that provides health care to homeless people. Rick's death had a deep impact in Noah's love life. He doesn't do "relationships", he just looks for questioning/bi-curious guys who leave after they had their fun. And that suits him just fine. More than one time leads to vomit and hives. He claims to be allergic to monogamy.
Enter surgeon Kyland Davis, a Texas hottie who's seriously fashion challenged. His sister engages Noah to give him a make over for the Bachelor Bid event that they are organizing to rise funds for the clinic.
But, is Ky gay? Noah is dying to know as much as he's dying to get him out of his clothes (except for his Stetson boots, those definitely have to stay).
I loved how serious Ky was to Noah's crazy self. I loved how hot these two were together and I loved how Noah finally got his HEA.
Lava hot sexy times, a changing room, a Texas ranch that gets properly baptized, a pink dildo, a pair of cowboy boots, one tiara and a purple tutu kept me thoroughly entertained.

3.5 Stars Rounded up!

This is currently my favorite in this series. Come to think of it,I don't know whether it'll will continue or not. I do hope it does, though I don't know which character it will continue with. Hmmm...

Annnyyywaaayy... I loved this book.

I almost forgot how much I loved Noah and his over the top antics and even more outrageous utterances. This brought it all back. Case in point:

"Because that's how Noah rolled: Model philanthropist. Giver of good head. Saver of marriages."

I laughed throughout the book because being in Noah's head? One hell of a ride.

Another thing I loved was that he was paired with the tough, no nonsense Kyland. He was a perfect match for him.. He gave Noah as good as he got & also gave him a dose of the hard truth that the broken man desperately needed. The chemistry (sexual & otherwise) between them was incredible.

As I mentioned, it wasn't all smooth sailing for these guys and the rough times added to the overall feel of the story. The writing was good as usual and the other characters from the first 2 books made significant appearances I enjoyed. The ending was great and unexpected while the Epilogue tied everything up very nicely.

I await to see where the series will go but needless to say, I'll definitely follow wherever it goes. For fans of this series, pick this up. You won't be disappointed. :)

Finally we get Noah's story

Gosh it seem like forever ago that I read the first two in this series but it's definitely been worth the wait for this one.

We finally get Noah's story. Dylan's best friend, boyfriend of the sadly deceased Rick, who all the fund raising in the previous two books has been done in the name of, and one seriously screwed up man.
And Kyland, the sexy cowboy boot wearing Texan surgeon whose twin sisters have been helping Noah with his fund raising efforts in Rick's name.

I don't want to go into too much detail and spoil things but this is a truly beautiful love story with humour, hurting, healing and comfort and an overall sense of rightness to it all. Noah and Ky together are just right.

The epilogue is wonderfully sweet and humorous at the same time and we also get to catch up with the two couples of the earlier stories.
I'd happily read about this bunch of men's lives until they were old and grey.

This book is much better than the previous installment, it objectively could go for more⭐ for most readers, but for me it was too long, the story too dragged out and what the MMCs had intimately together was just a couple of days. The rest were all the other developments with other side characters and I'd prefer more focus on the MMCs and their relationship development.

🟠 Both MMCs gay (one closeted)
🟢 Possible age gap ?/34
🟡 Size difference
🟣 Rich heir/surgeon
🔵 Ex boyfriend that died has a prominent role in the story
🟠 Main characters from previous installments all present
🟣 Sweet, not deep enough
🌶️ Little smut, but very good, I liked it a lot; t/b

So, Noah was quite the character in the previous books in this series. He's a young rich guy who's apparently lived in wealth and then inherited all the money when his dad died. He's had a boyfriend Rick who sold himself for money, got HIV and died because he couldn't afford the treatment and this is where Noah completely lost me.

Prior to this book I thought Noah came from the same background as Rick and Dylan, but Noah was actually from money, Noah says he couldn't get treatment for Rick because the money was controlled by his dad, but just imagine the story where you have a rich boyfriend who drives a Porsche, then you get HIV, the meds are available, yet your boyfriend can't buy them for you? He also can't get you to a good hospital, so you die away in a decrepit old rundown hospital where they won't even give you enough pain treatment, because you're a hooker; you're constantly in pain, so you just decide to end it all with overdose and you ask your rich boyfriend to bring you the pills - and he does, instead of trying to get the money to help you out.

Wow. I mean, wow. What a story.

Noah seemed like such a good character, yet in this book I'm on the fence about the guy. Noah's also an alcoholic and his personality revolves around cocktails. Take that away and you're lost. There's no depth to him, he can't talk about anything else but clothes, booze and sex.
And again, that "Porsche - can't help my prostitute boyfriend who has HIV" combo doesn't fly with me.

When Ky, the cowboy surgeon comes to the story and Noah takes an interest in the guy, we get a lot of pages of describing clothes, shopping for clothes, booze again, the superficial dialogues that just fly out of Noah and even though Ky was a good character and I liked him -even though his thought process is up for debate on many things - I think his depth had no company here, he was in the process of coming out, of getting his first boyfriend too, and what better option than a rich alcoholic with a plethora of mental and emotional issues who can't even hold a real conversation with you, right?

They were intimate for 2 days tops, one day in San Francisco and then 1 day in Texas finally having sex, but Ky makes this conclusion

"He liked vanilla ice cream, plain pepperoni pizza, and whatever sex he could have. Well, as long as it was with Noah. Which… sounded a lot like a relationship."

Yeahhh, that doesn't sound like a relationship. One day of sex doesn't mean you're in a relationship, wth?

I kind of didn't like Ky's treatment of his sisters to some degree, though. He comes off as this protective brother, yet his sisters are 24 years old and he's still lying to them and not telling them important facts about their father, like they're small children. He goes from a very strong character to someone who's a bit of a jerk at times, but he's still more thought-out than Noah.

"And while he’d always have the urge to throw a coat over his sisters’ shoulders, to keep them from looking like the grown women they’d become,"

"Hoping to decrease the amount of exposed skin, he pulled the front of her slinky jacket farther over the spaghetti straps of a dress that, ugh, almost looked like a nightgown."

🥴 Yeah, not cute, Ky. Not cute.

Some of the things that were said I didn't really like, it unnecessarily painted MMCs as assholes, when they really weren't and some words were on repeat again throughout the whole book

For chrissake.

Jesus christamighty

Sweet mother of Mary.

“I can’t imagine how you dealt with all those… those… female things.”

"So let’s put our big, manly-momma panties on.”

For the love of Jesus.

Thank you, Jesus

Jesus, Mary, and Joseph.

Jesus- mother- freaking- Christ

Deities be praised

And last, but not least

"This lovesick, preteen girly phase was really unpleasant."

And this was Noah talking about himself crushing on Ky. Because we all know by now only silly pre/teen girls have crushes with all their giggles and what not. 🙄

The themes are repetitive - did I mention Ky and Noah also have a fake boyfriend thing going on for a while? They want to copy Alec and Dylan, yeah, it's what Noah said- there are no original ideas present, the characters are not really fleshed out and the stories have a little bit of everything thrown in, the second two couples didn't have a clean-cut story lined up for them, you had no idea where any of it was going, so the love story wasn't satisfying.

Yeah, they did come together, but after twice hooking up? And nothing in-between? Rick had more page time that Ky and Noah together - and he was dead!

So overall I'd say a nice setting, a nice group of friends, but the books need some serious editing and I know these books are about a decade old by now, but I really think the potential was there. The writing needed some polishing, but I would read another installment for sure.
Of Logan, maybe, if he ended up with a guy.

I really enjoyed Noah's story, but I have to admit that for some reason it is my least favorite of the 3 books. Still really good though. =)

Neither characters nor the storyline appeal to me. Like I care about who wearing what *shrugs* With my reaction to the previous book, I think I will skip the rest of this series altogether.
