"Wholeheartedly written and communicated in a direct and warm, tender way. This book can be used as a springboard to the realization of our unity with everything, which will make us more beautiful, more universal, more cosmic human beings." Magda Carneci, From the Foreword
About presence is one of the easiest to read and follow books on spirituality, it's the kind of book you can read during the daily commute and still gain decent insight. The ideas as structured into few page chunks - springing from one idea to another, not requiring much focused attention, the afterwards reflection is enough. It's indeed a primer on the spiritual journey, as it's advertised. It follows the many questions and ruminations of the mind, and aims to untangle them - noise, useless worry, forgiveness, love, presence, awareness, body, mind, spirit, purpose, meaning and so on. Many chapters start with actual questions the teacher received during his practice. Well documented and tenderly, to-the-point written.
I stumbled upon this book exactly when I was looking for something like it so it became very special to me. (I'm reading it for the second time now, occasionally.)
I've read similar books, and this felt like a nice and approachable mix of ideas from most of them, written in a clear, pleasant and light style, in short chapters, each dealing with a specific topic. You can just go and read whichever you are in the mood to.
It was a very nice read. Calming. It helped me in decluttering my mind. Definitely one of my top5 favourite books, regardless of the genre.
Truly life changing. If you are willing to practice being present, being aware and being blissful this is the perfect start. The book is a collection of tools (notes) to help you understand and manage everyday aspects of life and also answer questions like “Who am I?” or “Why do I exist?”.
The book is simply amazing. The book is structured as a collection of notes and their relation to the conclusions one might reach in a journey to bring peace and calm into life. The author clearly has a strong background knowledge related to yoga practices, but even so, manages to describe the concepts without using specific therms for them (only specifying some but not overusing them). I, for one, have to admit that I took some time to reflect on the actual reasoning behind the notes of the author, it's possibly best this way to approach this book, because one might not agree totally with his resolutions and statements yet the idea that those concepts are based onto, is something very relatable. Also, people accustomed to old philosophies of ethics (notably stoicism) will most likely find this book as a very pleasent and refreshing read of a modern author that clearly shares the views of the ancient stoic school in a more up-to-date fashion. As a final note, I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who's not shying away from difficult topics (like death, loneliness, acceptance of difficult to process events, etc) and even if not agreeing with the author, anyone can at least grasp the concepts that he lives by and thus at least understand other perspectives.
It.s a simple book, with simple answers and explanations. But do not confuse it with simplistic. There are a lot of books about this subject, but this one comes with a clear mindset, wonderfully organized, accessible to more people. I loved it and for sure I'll read it again. I will discover new meanings.
I was looking for a book that is for beginners and written “in a direct and warm, tender way”. This quote made me choose this book from more others. I liked that the book was also contribuited by romanian people as it drew my attention. 5/5 stars it tottaly changed my perspective in a good way. Also the book wasnt very expensive!❤️
This is one of those books that I want to read again and again. The teachings here are very valuable, but you need to have a bit of background into self help and spirituality to understand some of the concepts. Or that is just my perception of things.
Really enjoyed the first half of this book but as it went along it became very repetitious. Some of the opinions and ideas are out there, many others are very useful.
Beautiful book about spirituality, beautifully written. Seems a bit too theoretical at times, but I learned a lot that can actually be applied. Should probably read again some of the essays.
A great book with a lot of valuable insights. It will forever stay on my shelf as a reminder to stay connected, be present and enjoy the simple things, what I have and who I am.
O carte care mi-a schimbat perspectiva asupra vieții. O recomand cu căldură oricui interesat de importanța sacrului și a spiritualității în viețile noastre.
