Gillian Hohenwald knows magic isn’t real. Her mother was delusional, as are her sister and aunts who claim to be witches—and who claim she’s one, too. Like her father, Gillian believes there are rational, scientific explanations for all so-called paranormal phenomena. She’s determined to find them, starting in the odd little town of Magic, New Mexico. What she doesn’t expect to find is a sexy dragon shifter from another dimension.

Aiden Silver fled his dimension, Tarakona, before the ruling wizards could indenture him and steal his dragon magic. He’s been hiding in the enchanted Earth town of Magic, New Mexico ever since, plotting a way to rescue his sister, Nadia. When an alluring—and possibly mad—scientist captures him, she accidentally lets a powerful wizard slip through the interdimensional portal linking Earth and Tarakona.

Now they must form an uneasy alliance to stop the wizard from his conquest of Earth while making sure their attraction doesn’t distract from the mission. But can science and magic blend seamlessly, or will the mixture prove more explosive than any dimension can handle?

About the author

I was born and raised in East Tennessee and spent a great deal of my childhood hiking in the Great Smoky Mountains and wading barefoot in creeks, chasing salamanders, fish, and frogs. We camped a lot, and we loved to tell stories while sitting around our campfire.

Those days of frog chasing sparked my interest in biology, which I pursued in college and later in graduate school. A working scientist by day, I never lost my love of sharing stories. I’ve been an avid reader for as long as I can remember and am thrilled to be working as a writer.

I live in Nashville, Tennessee with my husband, two children, three cats, and my very active imagination.

This was a lot of fun to read. The moments of "oh please do this" were satisfactorily resolved. And Im definitely going to read more about this little town of Magic, NM

I love it! Nadia's twin brother is guarding the portal to their old world. Gillian is doing everything scientifically to prove magic is not real. Everyone but her father says they are witches, her as well. She is doing everything to prove that magic isn't real. She catches Aiden in a trap, she sees him come out of the portal. She wants to know everything. He tells her magic is real & he's a dragon. She tells him no. He shows her. She wakes up at his house. He tells her there are wards around the house so she can't get out. She tries a few times. He sits at the table to get ready for breakfast. She has tried some things with a few different objects. She finally excepts that magic is real & she is a witch. After she gets control of herself, she eats & learns about Aiden. They will be going to see Rocky, he's the lawyer that handles the form that anyone who stays in Magic, New Mexico reads & agrees to. They sign in agreement to all that is stated. Gillian reads through and signs the contract. The two go on to get to know each other. Aiden loves her glasses that allow him to see magic, she made a pair that will fit him when he is a dragon. She finds out he is not a fighter dragon, so she makes him some armor & they are practicing his using it. He gets a call from Rocky, telling him they think a wizard with 2 dragons are in town asking about him. He & Gillian get back to the shop & she finally gets him to tell her what is going on. He asks her to help him try to access his vision power & see if he can help what is going to happen. She puts some of her machines together & has him come over to sit down. She gives him the glasses to concentrate on. The first few time didn't work. After he relaxed a little he saw a wizard with him. 2 red dragons overhead, the wizard trying to tell him to come along. He has one shot left to save this world. He swallows the poison & lets the wizard use his power. It kills them both. He comes out of the trance. He sends Gillian to get some food. When she gets back, he's gone, his armor's gone & she's worried. She calls Rocky to tell him what is happening. He tells her about the poison he has. She sneaks up to the area she sees them. Pixies are near, she asks them if they can find & get the thrall crystals out of the red dragons without hurting them. they took off. She sees Aiden start to surrender to the wizard. She runs across, knowing he had already taken the poison. She does eveything to revive him. It saves him, but the wizard as well. The 2 reds come next to the wizard, he tells them to capture Aiden. One ropes the wizard & the other one has her sword ready. He orders them to let him go. The both say they are free & the other one decapitates him. Gillian helps make them armor to work with. They will be going back to their world to guard the portal on that side. It is a really good story!

Really interesting start for a whirlwind romance with a fight for freedom as a disbelieving witch scientist, learns that magic is truly real after capturing a dragon shifter after he exits a portal from another realm. The town definitely sticks together and the pixies help win the battle. Short read but definitely has its spicy moments.
