Why do people have so much difficulty achieving their goals, making big changes, and becoming the people they want to be? If we can imagine it, why can't we achieve it? Transformational A New Psychology offers a new understanding of how the brain really works and how we can use this knowledge for personal change and growth. Transformational NLP incorporates material drawn from, or inspired by, the holographic model of the universe as explained by physicist David Bohm, the basic premises and implications of twentieth and twenty-first century quantum mechanics, Bert Hellinger's trans-generational, systemic constellation work, and the metaphysics of the perennial philosophy such as described by Aldous Huxley. It offers breakthrough insights and unique methods-neuro-linguistic and otherwise-that Buchheit has developed over the course of more than three decades, working with thousands of clients. This book will be of great interest to all students of NLP as well as to psychologists, social workers, mental health workers, teachers, historians, and philosophers. It will especially appeal to many people who are interested in personal transformation and gaining entirely new perspectives about understanding and changing our human experience.
NLP is an interesting field worth studying and pursuing, and, while it is used maliciously by ill intended systems: e.g advertisements, coercion, enforcement, social media, etc. Understanding NLP can also result in real and positive change. NLP is a scientific approach to observing humans and is effective depending on the practice, experience, and knowledge of the facilitator or user. I recommend this book because it is well formatted and provides a detailed overview on the history of NLP. Further reading is necessary if one wants to become trained with NLP skill.
This is great as a summary of the history of different trends, approaches and schools of thought about NeuroLinguistic Programming - if you want to know where it came from, the first half of the book is particularly good. But it doesn't have much in the way of practical application. If you want to know how to shift your own patterns with NLP, you'll need to look elsewhere.
This book is really interesting if you want to know the history, development, and dynamics of NLP. It was not as helpful as far as how to put it into practice. I did enjoy reading it though.
The basis of Neuro-linguistic programming (NLP) is that you can, and do routinely, reprogram your thinking. The classic example is that if someone has a fear of dogs because they were once bitten by one you can replay the event in your mind replacing the offending dog with a cartoon dog or a tiny dog and may also have cartoonish music in the background. The intent is that by doing this the mental severity of the dog bite severely lessens and so does your fear of dogs. Unfortunately many of us do this process routinely in our head with very restrictive thoughts such as I'll never be happy, never get a good job etc.etc. Others clearly follow this process with very positive results. This book first provides a history of NLP sighting numerous researchers and studies. The second part of the book goes into the future of NLP. In this section there is some very interesting information of the role that Carlos Castaneda had on the beginning and future of NLP. "to choose a new reality, one needs an alternative possible description of the world, that is, new information it is necessary to provide the subconscious with new information so that one can choose different thoughts about oneself and the outside world" (Castaneda, 1972) he later adds "One of the earliest things don Juan taught me was that I must erase my personal history"
It is a very interesting book but I would not recommend it as the first one to read on NLP. There are better books that explain the basics. This would be a very good book to continue learning about the subject
