Haunted items are traversing the country and its ghosts are wreaking havoc on their new owners. At the center of the chaos is an old rifle possessed by a blood-thirsty specter, who dreams of massacres at every turn. Meanwhile, lurking in a nearby mailbox is an antique novel, possessed by a monster who takes pleasure in agonizing, heart-stopping torture.
Stefan Korzh’s plan is unraveling flawlessly and he can’t imagine a better way of seeking revenge on the world. But Victor Daniels and Jeremy Rhinehart won’t let that happen. Recovering from their grisly encounters with the dead, they’re more prepared than ever before. They work on finding the sources of bloodshed and imprisoning the crazed collectibles.
With murderous ghosts continuing to raise the death toll, Victor and Jeremy have their hands full. They race against time to stop the mayhem and save innocent bystanders. Fueled by their quest for revenge, each step brings them toward the culprit behind all the horror. But as they get closer to catching this madman, they discover how dangerous Stefan Korzh truly is…
Ron Ripley is a husband and father surviving in New England, a place which seems to be getting colder every day. He grew up across from a disturbingly large cemetery where he managed to scare himself every night before going to bed. Mostly because of the red lights that people put in front of the headstones. Those things are just plain creepy to a kid.
Ron enjoys writing horror, military history and driving through the small towns of New England with his family, collecting books and giving impromptu lectures on military history to his family, who enjoy ignoring him during those dreadful times.
Stefan Korzh is still selling his mother and fathers haunted items and hoping they kill as many people as possible. In this edition, Victor and Jeremy have to retrieve a book and a rifle. Both the items are intent on killing!! The book is picked up by a young boy and the rifle by a man who has no problem killing with it!
I loved book 1 of this and was hoping that this would be just as good, well it was, and it even surprised me by being better. I had a hard time putting this aside because I needed to see what would happen. The idea of a haunted book was super scary because it's such an innocuous item, and the fact that a young boy had it made it worse!! The plot surrounding the rifle was also scary. The man who had it was a psychopath, but when you add in the homicidal ghost, it made for hard reading.
There is a part of the book where I was thrilled to read because we have a character crossover!!! Not going to say who, but I'm so happy to see him in this. I really hope he gets a few more cameos in the rest of the series. Jeremy and Victor are as awesome as always and we get to see a new character who has potential! Really looking forward to finding out more about him.
In all, this was an amazing read. Creepy, scary, gripping and entertaining, this book is a must read. Ron Ripley sure knows how to write great reads. Highly recommend his books!
I voluntarily agreed to read an advanced copy of this. This in no way affected nor influenced my thought.
A Marine attached to a rifle is about to unleash horror on an unsuspecting community, and Victor and Jeremy are doing their best to track down the weapon and lock it away. They are also searching for the person who is selling the haunted items. For Victor, it is personal.
The second book in the series tops the first 😊. This one centre's more around two specific objects whereas the first one being the one to introduce the storyline, characters and the whole premise of the series. This one went more in depth in so many ways that it's started to fill up certain holes from the first one which I was hoping for and wasn't disappointed. The bonus chapters at the end I love as it gives background to Stefan growing up in such a hostile household and the repercussions on him not only as a child but why he's the way he is as an adult. Here's hoping this series just gets better with the third book.
Feeling guilty that this is my first review for Ripley when I've bought/listened to/ and now read most of his catalog. The man is an exquisite horror writer. His pacing is as good as any thriller, and since I just finished Jonathan Maberry's Dogs of War, I can point to that as to how quick each scene moves. I'm floored by how much terror, character development, plotting, emotional investment are in Ripley's rapid-fire chapters. No description is ever wasted! They all add up to nail-shredding, heart-seizing, can't-read-fast-enough awesomeness.
Highlights or hooks that will keep me buying this new series:
Superbly developed villain (If Death Notes came in individual items of possession, this depraved young man would add them to his arsenal)
Love Victor and Jeremy as a team. Want to know more about Jeremy. Want justice for Victor.
Sustainable series. With the haunted collection in play, there is excellent potential for an overarching plot for the series that won't wane anytime soon.
Got a special appearance from a favorite character. Ripley, please consider reviving that series. Ha! Readers will just have to guess which one because this author is prolific, and I love that! And like most peeps who read multiple series from a favorite author, anytime the author links their universe together, it's a full-on nerdgasm!
So apologies to Ripley for not reviewing all works consumed, but consider me a patron anyway. I will be purchasing older works I do not yet have. And instead of receiving a free book for signing up for the newsletter, I will happily buy it. Looking forward to more from Ron Ripley and Scare Street team!
This second book in the Haunted Collection series is every bit as good as the first one. Stefan Korzh has fallen further into the clutches of evil, personified by his dead father, and is selling off the haunted collection a piece at a time in order to spread death as far and wide as possible. Meantime, Jeremy and his group are attempting to put together a means to stop Stefan's reoign of horror. The story this time centers around a WWII vintage Gerund rifle that is haunted by a marine who died during that war. Enter an old friend - Shane Ryan - to utilize his special skills in the fight. At the risk of spoiling it, I shall say no more except that I am now well into Book 3 and am awaiting Book 4 with cold breathed anticipation. Ron Ripley is quickly becoming one of my favorite authors. I love his particular brand of horror and will definitely continue to read his work.
I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I love all of Ripley's works thus far but the Haunted Collection series is quickly becoming my favorite!
We continue on with Victor, Jeremy, and Stefan on their respective journeys, meet some new friends and foes along the way, and have a surprise crossover with a character from another of Ripley's great works.
I thoroughly enjoyed the continuation of this story and the further development of the characters. This book was a lot more action packed than the previous one and also seemed to pace itself a lot better. Hopefully we do not have to wait too long for the third installment because I am nervous, scared, and excited to see what happens next.
I've never actually met Ron in person, but have had the good fortune of working with him and talking to him across the expanse of the Atlantic. His work has always been an inspiration, and his vigor in tackling each story remarkable. I have never been disappointed by any book I've read that he's written, and this one is no less spectacular. Walter's Rifle continues the journey of Victor and Jeremy as they hunt down Stefan and the Korzh collection. The ghosts here are definitely scarier than in the first book, and I can only imagine what the next few books hold in store. As always, will be reading Ron's work with the excitement of a six-year-old on Christmas morning.
have learned to love Ron Ripley books. This is book #2, a continuation of book #1. Even as a continuation it is well described. I think it is so much better than book one as he incorporates characters you may know from his previous books. Ron writes a good suspenseful read that will keep you on the edge of your seat and cause you to get chills. I was glad when Shne made an appearance. Stefan continues to sell objects from his parents collection. The objects are intent on killing. Thom Bowers makes the story interesting and draws you in which causes you to get chills. I highly recommend this book series. Ron Ripley has outdone himself.
This is the third series I have read. The stories are kept interesting with new characters added along with a few old favorites thrown in. Ron Ripley has a terrific imagination. If I might ask just a few suggestions, instead of either, as in either side of the door, it is there are windows on each side. Either means one or the other. Also you go toward the house not towards and never end a sentence with a dangling participle . Most often you can leave the of off entirely because the sentence works without it. Thank you for considering my requests I look forward to many more hours of reading your works.
5 stars is not enough!!! I absolutely LOVE Ripley!!! In my opinion he surpasses King, Patterson AND Koontz!! Thank you soooo much for incorporating Shane Ryan!!! He was my favorite character of all time and I wanted to cry when I finished Berkeley street! Ripley if I could give you more stars I would! I am your biggest fan and look forward to reading anything else you publish and finishing this series! Would love to see more characters from Moving In and Berkeley street also!
So I’m such a drip and didn’t realise it was an ongoing series so that answers the end of my review of the first book! So more haunted objects are sold into the world with horrifying results. It’s getting a little more personal and now he has little Annie back. Also Stefan has seriously pissed off daddy! I still think it was very rushed like the first book. Walters rifle could have featured a little more. Still a decent horror read.
I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review. I love all of the Ron Ripley books so far and this book is no exception.
The story continues from the previous book with the search to find and recover haunted items. I loved that there was a small little crossover from another series and I can't wait for the next book.
This series just gets better and better. The action of the story as well as the history of these haunted items is amazing. And when I was at 75% of the book, I literally screamed for joy!!! I can’t tell you why because it will spoil the surprise but I was BEYOND ecstatic. Mr. Ripley, you have a fan FOR LIFE!!!!!!!
Continuing on the saga of Jeremy, Victor, and Stefan was a delight. The trials they go through are scary and incredible at the same time. I have this story a 4 because I thought it was slow to really get the action going. Then Mr. Ripley brought it to live and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
What is Stefan thinking? He has let loose all these haunted objects just to see what will happen. So many innocent people have died because of his need for revenge. He is afraid of his father’s ghost, but not afraid enough to stop sending objects out to unsuspecting people. The people trying to stop him are much braver than I am. I do not know if I would be able to catch these spirits.
Excellent series. Oh what a pleasant surprise to see a character from another series make an appearance. I love the story line, the characters, good editing. I will read the next book in this series. I can't wait.
Normally the following books are never as good as the first in a series. Not this time, the story continues to thrill and chill the reader! Can't wait to see what is in store in book 3!
This was a very thrilling addition to the Haunted Collection series. This book had a lot of thrill, suspense, and definite creep factor. I am intrigued to see what Victor and Jeremy encounter next, what Stefan has up his sleeve, and how Ivan will handle Stefan.
The stories keep getting wilder and wilder. The hunt is still on for Stefan. He is a real villian. Totally unpredictable and extremely dangerous. I loved the surprise of somebody dropping in from another series. Shocked. Lol! Loved it.
This book was not as exciting as previous ones in the series. It seemed to drag on, instead of the more exciting chapters of previous books. I couldn't honestly give this book five stars and was generous in giving it four! I was happy to see the brief appearance of Shane, so rated it a four.
Glad to see someone from a cross over. But i won't spoil it. Love the idea a rifle and a book was haunted. But other than that no spoilers from here. 5 evil books out of 5
I didn't love this one as much as the others, but it's still worth reading. I liked it, I just didn't love it for some reason. Ripley's storytelling is addictive for sure.
I was so excited to see that Shane from the Berkley Street series made a appearance in this book! What a fantastic read. I’m looking forward to reading the 3rd installment of the series.
