It is, without question, the most prevalent sin in the church (yes, the apostolic Pentecostal church) and yet the least talked about. It’s uncomfortable. It’s taboo. It’s shameful.

Thank God for Steve Showalter’s courage, and pastoral drive to confront that which needs confronting. It’s an apostolic approach to what Every Man’s Battle tried many years ago. Yet, without the cliches, cheesy awkwardness (for the most part), and WITH a Pentecostal perspective on the power of the Spirit.

The chapter toward the end, challenging pastors (and by association, student pastors) to confront porn head-on, is one of the most significant rebukes of ministry I’ve ever read. Brother Showalter addresses four reasons we don’t talk about it. (1) We’re naive, (2) We don’t know where to begin, (3) we are bound by it ourselves, or (4) we don’t care. None are a valid excuse. It’s time for the church to take the issue seriously. This book is an excellent start, and a wonderful resource.

Unlike most Christian books that cover fornication/adultery, this book is actually helpful and not afraid to "go there". It doesn't dance around the subject like a lot of preachers/books do.

Pros:

1. Whether you're in ministry and just not sure how to diagnose and "cure" a sinner who's suffering from porn (me), whether you're currently struggling with porn or simply feel urges here and there to go back to it because of a past addiction (me), or you simply want to learn more about the porn industry and what it consists of (also me) this is the book for you. It covers all the bases, the book provides anecdotal evidence, statistical evidence, and biblical evidence to showcase that porn is an issue and that porn is common everywhere....even in the Acts 2:38 Church.

2. The book dispels the misconception that a Christian can't be depressed and trapped in a deep sin like porn addiction (aka fornication/adultery). The book provides statistical evidence that Christians suffer from porn, as well as anecdotal evidence which consists primarily of the author himself. The author of this amazing book suffered from a porn addiction from age 7 or so...that he continued to struggle with even after he got baptized in Jesus' name and received the holy ghost speaking in tongues as the Spirit gives the utterance.

3. I love how the book is just as informative in regards to resolving a porn addiction as it is to describe the reality of this addiction and the prevalence of porn in modern society. The author provides useful advice on how to A. teach kids about the reality of this sexually focused world and how they should properly respond to it. B. how you can resist pornography/continue to resist it effectively. C. How you can teach your church (if you're in the ministry) about pornography and how to handle pornography.
