First Man Out: The First Navy Officer To Lose His Command Over The Pearl Harbor Argument

Rate this book
"First Man Out" is the full version of the Pelican Publishing Company book called "Pearl Harbor The Biography of Admiral James O. Richardson." That version was cut some 250 pages, and those are placed back in for the "First Man Out" presentation. Four officers lost their jobs over the Pearl Harbor Admiral Richardson 11 months before the attack, Admiral Husband Kimmel and General Walter Short a few days after the attack, and Admiral Stark almost four months later. Other associate positions were changed, also. This book goes into more detail about the life of Admiral Richardson, his wife, his friends and his peers. He was fairly quiet after losing his Fleet command, but continued to serve the sailors and the Navy until 1947. He even forged the basic structure of the Defense Department that was put into use after World War II as well as testify for the Navy in the Tokyo Crimes Trial. This book is a Kindle companion to the deep study of why the Fleet was ordered to stay at Hawaii, called "Why Stay at Pearl?"
