Glen Springs #1

Final Stretch

Rate this book
Superstar NFL running back Travis Morrison has been chasing down the same dream since he was a kid. The down-home, aw-shucks, former Eastshore favorite has always known his talents lay with football, and he’s never hoped for much more. But when the man he was going to marry leaks a sex tape of the two of them, Travis’ golden boy image—and his world—is turned upside down in an instant. Keeping a low profile at his brother’s place in Kentucky to save his career seems doable… if he can resist the temptation of his brother’s smart-mouthed best friend.

Shane McMillan was on the inside track to the Kentucky Derby when a devastating accident destroyed his career and his confidence. After five years, he finally feels like he’s managed to escape the limelight thanks to his best friend and the welcoming folks of Glen Springs. The peaceful life he’s built rehabbing horses on his small ranch is everything he needs, until temptation arrives in the form of a disarming smile and a hot, athletic body. His best friend’s brother is definitely trouble—but he’s the kind Shane just can’t seem to resist.

When a misunderstanding leads Travis to work at Shane’s ranch, the growing attraction between them starts to burn out of control. Long, hot days lead to even hotter nights when fantasies become reality. Just as their desire starts to turn into something deeper, a photo of them becomes hot news that threatens to shatter everything they’ve worked so hard to achieve. With Shane’s past exposed and Travis’ career in jeopardy it all comes down to the final stretch.

Final Stretch is the first book in the new Glen Springs series which centers around a small, close-knit town in Kentucky. It's a full-length gay romance novel featuring a kind-hearted (but kinda naughty) football star, a gruff (but lovable) ex-jockey, a cast of well-meaning small town folks, and a little donkey who thinks he’s a guard dog. This book contains explicit scenes that make the most of the rustic surroundings (ahem), so reader discretion is advised!

Based on the blurb, this book had a lot of promise, but unfortunately, I just didn't connect to the characters much.

Travis moved on from his scandal (and his almost fiance) too quickly. Considering that he was ready to propose to Jeremy, there wasn't much heartbreak or time spent dwelling on a relationship that ended on such a cold and greedy betrayal. I feel like the author didn't fully commit to this plot point, especially considering Travis's career hung in the balance because of the scandal. It was pulled out when needed, and didn't truly feel like a part of the story.

Shane's past also felt kinda distant to me. I just never really warmed up to him. I wanted to, but I didn't feel like the author fully "went there" with the issues he was having. I wish she would have expanded on the pressures he was feeling while competing. I needed to connect more.

I have to say that even with my issues, I was engaged the whole time while I was reading. No stutters in pacing or times where the book dragged.

The heat was moderate and done well.

I guess the best way for me to sum this up is that it was pretty enjoyable, but missed the mark when it came to the punch I was expecting based on the blurb. What a got here was a light tap on the shoulder.

This is a formula that will appeal to a lot of readers. I just don’t think I’m one of them anymore.

We have the whole famous athlete looking for a quiet place to regroup, the somewhat boring start of a relationship, the dull sex scenes, and the angst and break-up at 75%. It’s just not for me anymore.

Travis needs a quiet place after his boyfriend leaked a sex tape of them. And that’s how Travis finds himself working at a farm to help out his brother’s friend, Shane. The two start off on the wrong foot, but working together makes them start to see each other in a different light and it’s not long before they stumble into bed together.

The relationship itself is all good and dandy, as long as they remain hidden away from the rest of the world. But of course the media gets wind of them and things go to shit. We get the angst and break-up at 75%, and then the big gesture to make up for everything.

I’m so tired of these kind of books. They’re almost all the same to me nowadays.

I’m also not sure why I keep picking books with famous athletes. The media circus always makes me want to throw my Kindle out the window.

Oh, and can I just say that I'm VERY against horse racing. I think it's awful to put horses through that sort of training and races. And don't get me started on the whole gambling side of it.
So I was not happy when they talked about Shane's career as a jockey and how he wanted to compete again.

Loved this intro to a new series from Alison Hendricks

Low angst, moderate steam, ranch setting, hot NFL player, ex jockey, what more could you ask for?!

For me, not much as I just like Alison Hendricks' style of writing. This one centres around Travis, mired in a scandal and with a broken heart after the guy he was going to propose to leaks a sex tape.

I loved Travis, he was strong in character but with a vulnerability which came from never knowing anything but football. His relationship with his older brother was strained but you could sense within him the desire to make changes.

Shane also was flawed and his experiences had changed him in a different way, he was cautious and held back a bit but he held such passion inside.

Together they were just beautifully sweet and I'm looking forward to more in this setting.

Oh and the big gesture Shane makes - awesome.

1.5 Stars~~ It was almost ok...
The following review may contain mild spoilers...
but mostly... I'm just ranting.

The pacing of the story and progression of Travis and Shane's relationship was awkward for the most part. If the scandal had been that Travis had a fuck buddy that leaked a sex tape and released an article attacking his public image instead of it being his boyfriend, the story would have felt like a natural chain of events leading Travis to Shane.

Instead, the whole story felt off starting with the fact that he loved Jeremy and even had a ring in his pocket. He was going to propose to Jeremy, it blew up in his face, and just a few days later he is drooling over his brothers best friend Shane. Jeremy screwed him over, it was a total betrayal, but the aftermath seemed mostly about getting out of the spotlight to let the scandal blow over. Insta-lust/love stories are fine by me, but this felt forced and rushed. All the rushing made the characters' feelings hard to believe, which led to me not caring, making even a pretty good sex scene seem mundane.

I tried to let go of how it started, and jump into where they are and where they are going. It didn't work. While there were sweet moments, it just wasn't enough to make this romantic or realistic. I liked the town and the characters, so I'm excited to read the next book. As for this story, I just think that the plot was weak and Travis and Shane had a lackluster relationship.

This is the first book by Alison Hendricks that I just plain did not enjoy. I honestly don't know what happened here. It wasn't for me, but I still really enjoy her work. In fact, I'm going to go read Jake's story right now... teacher dating a student's dad....sounds good to me.

Despite started with a sex scandal that forces Travis to lay low, and Shane has a kind of traumatic trigger due to an accident that happens during his racing days, but in overall Final Stretch is a nice, low-on-angst, quick-pace story.

While Travis and Shane relationship is pretty much insta-love but somehow it doesn't bother me much. And I like that the small town seems to be quite welcoming towards LGBT people.

I LOVE all the scenes related to the horses, especially the ones related to Shane taking care of Apollo, the ex-racing horse. I always think this animal is majestic. I think I need to read more love-story about horses training or racing. Otto the donkey is also cute.

Having said that, I am quite annoyed with Shane near the end. I think he needs to do more groveling towards Travis.

The final stretch is the first book in Alison Hendricks new series Glen Springs. I've read most of her books, and I'm a fan of her work. I mean hot gay sports stories... of course, I'm hooked!

Travis Morrison is an NFL running back. He has worked hard all his life to create a squeaky clean good boy image. Unfortunately, his latest man has decided to leak a sex tape and Travis's world is about to be shaken up. He needs to get away for a while. His brother lives in Kentucky, and he wants to use the opportunity to mend broken bridges. Travis is on his guard, but can't help noticing Shane. He's hot and Travis is already feeling the vibes. Unfortunately, for Travis, he doesn't know he's about to embarrass himself.

Shane used to be a Kentucky Derby racer. He wants to avoid the limelight. Travis is his opposite in this respect, and he doesn't need his distraction. Sometimes love is found in unexpected places.

This is a hot romance and an easy read. 4 Stars out of 5. It isn't my favourite Alison Hendricks book, but it is worth the read.

I loved Final Stretch by Alison Hendricks. It's the first book in the Glen Springs series. I loved Travis and Shane. They are great together and have excellent chemistry and hot scenes. I liked how Travis immediately thought of hiding out with his brother when a sex tape gets leaked to the media, and he has to lay low for a couple of weeks. I like how they take the time to get to know each other finally. Moreover, I loved Shane and his small rehab ranch and his dream of one-day rehabbing injured racehorses. He also helps with troubled youths that his best friend Jake teaches. Jake is also Travis's brother. I loved the donkey that thought he was a dog and greeted everybody on Shane's ranch. Moreover, how Travis ends up helping out at the ranch to help stay in shape for when he gets to go back to the NFL after the scandal dies down. I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book.

*~~*ARC kindly provided by the author to me in exchange for an honest review *~~*

This book has a quite different setting from the other books by Alison Hendricks but still connection to the well-known football topic. This time it's mixed with a former jockey who's career is over when he hurts himself and his racing horse in the progress.

The story is well written and solid, the story builds from insta-lust to a relationship between the character and finally settles in a love relationship. I liked the pacing and along the way there were misunderstandings in variety.

It has a slight angst topic, first with Travis' scandal of being filmed while sex with his former boyfriend and later because of the attention it brings to the calm farm Shane is managing.

The tension rises from different topics and the reader's anticipation is constantly picked and sometimes shaken.

I liked how sexy the erotic was displayed, Shane and Travis really get along in bed but also in between. The new relationship is based on friendship, although the final trust isn't there (yet).

The way how Travis' brother Jack is introduced and displayed in the book gives hope about a book for him, he is a charming minor character and the way how Travis and he rebuilding their strained relationship and finally can be brothers is sweet and adorable.

The books has here and there a few flaws, still a solid read, a good writing, the reader's attention is constantly hold, therefore I give 4 out of 5 stars.

There’s a very simple reason I’ve read every single book from Alison Hendricks and it’s this: Her Books ALWAYS leave me feeling all warm and tingly(the good kind) inside. I don’t know about you but for me that is a pretty good reason to stick to an author.

This book was the same. It made me feel all the feels and left me warm inside.

Our MCs were far from perfect but they apologized when wrong and made sure they made up for any failings or hurts they caused. I love this in people in real life so OF COURSE I loved reading about the characters doing this. I thought the “I love you”’s were a bit premature but hey! If they were feeling it who am I to say otherwise? 😂

For a first book in a new series. I think this was pretty solid. I don’t know who’s book is next but I hope it’s Jake’s!

A former jockey who now rehabs unwanted horses and an American Football player?! Even in my dreams I couldn't have hoped for a pairing like that!

I'm super passionate about horses and I even worked with race horses for a while (harness racing though); and I also love American Football (both my brothers play)!
So of course I had really high hopes!

However, the reviews were not that great, so I was expecting it to be really bad. But it wasn't! It was great, actually! Both MCs were really likeable and they had great chemistry. I got so excited when - that was so romantic! And I actually squealed when it was revealed in the epilogue that they !
All in all the book just got better and better.

So why not five stars? Well, I think Travis was very fast to move on from Jeremy. I mean, come on, he was planning to propose, for fuck's sake! It's not like they just had an affair or something. So yeah, that was completely unrealistic.
Also, I'm not a big fan of books written in present tense.

But other than that, this book was really great! I can't wait to go and read the bonus scene and then the other two books in this series.

I finally get to mark this book off my TBR list. I agree with another reviewer that mention of the length of progression from Travis's former boyfriend to Shane. Travis was considering marrying this man who betrayed him and then moved on to new man very quickly in my opinion. It just felt like everything happened in a few weeks instead of months . I think it would have work better if the other guy was a casual hook up than a person you were thinking about marrying soon. I think the way he gave up his career was little baffling to me. He didn't sound ready to retire from football. One other thing that baffled me is Shane watching the sex tape (that part didn't bother me) and getting mad at the other for his performance and not fact he leak the tape. Travis's ex boyfriend was a loose end that never got tackled head on for me. It was mention but no real on page confrontation. Overall, I enjoyed myself but this had some issues for me.

I enjoyed this book. It was about two men, hurt by fame, finding love with each other. I liked this. The MC’s were lovable, even through their hurt, and even though tech it was a fast moving relationship, you couldn’t really tell. The characters were just that good.
The writing was amazing, loved loved loved the banter back and fourth and, the side characters, although rarely seen, were written perfectly. Loved!hopefully the next book will be great.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book and new author. The sex was a bit too harlequin for me so I skimmed it. The angst was just right for the characters who were well developed and interesting. The story line did not get trampled under the horse's hoofs or get lost amid the scandal. More people should be reading this this fine story.

just a teeny bit lacking - 2.5* rounded up because it wasn't unpleasant.

this is a nice pleasant low angst book. The two main characters are both likable. The story was fine but there was nothing I found magical. Still I might consider reading something else by this author if I am looking for very light easy reading.

I didn’t like how fast Travis (H1) moved on from his almost-fiance although the ex was a douchebag who posted one of their sexy times without permission and wrote an story. Shane was also a dick near the end when he blamed Travis for stuff. I’m glad for their happy ending though.

"He wants me to stay here. Which means he wants something long term. Something more than a fling. My heart squeezes in my chest, even in the middle of this very uncomfortable conversation."

I liked this story. It was a nice read. Travis needs to lay low to escape a betrayal by his (ex) boyfriend so he escapes to a small town to stay with his brother who he also needs to mend his relationship with or lack of. Shane is also laying low in his own way, making a new life from himself away from the eyes of the public.

Shane and Travis are good together. I liked their meet cute, the misunderstanding and then the fresh start and how they're relationship starts to grow and we see different sides to them even through the hesitation and stubbornness.

Both guys were kinda frustrating, not a whole lot but they almost created dramas for themselves that didn't need to be an issue.
If I'm being honest Shane was an asshole. Seriously. I get what he was experiencing was anxiety (even if it's not really named) and I got his worries but he knew who Travis was, that was never a secret, and it was an asshole move to guilt Travis the way he did.
But I did really like them together, they were sweet and I think they fit. It was a tad too quick, but not complaining too much, Insta isn't an issue for me, mostly.
I loved the setting too, the town, the animals, the kids, I think it added to the story immensely.

So I had two big problems with this book that I can't look past:
-There are serious issues in this book that are touched on but that's it. They're glossed over, especially with Shane's past. They're things that really should've been delved into instead of the dramas with Travis and Shane that got repetitive. I'm not trying to be mean, I'm really not, but it comes across as kinda lazy. The issues didn't have to take over the story, it could've been a conversation, something as simple as Travis talking to someone, just something, anything, other than glossing over them and ignoring them.
- I don't recall the MC (Travis) ever referring to himself as Bisexual but I do recall him referring to himself as gay more than once yet he is referred as Bi(sexual) by another character and it just really niggled at me and I don't know if the character is intended to be Bisexual or if he is intended to be Gay but Bi just fit for the conversation in the book at the time. Either way it's bothersome.

There was also the relationship between Jake and Travis , I think that needed more page time, more developing because I really liked reading the brothers' mending their relationship, trying to fix it and let it grow but it wasn't given much time.

I didn't love this but I didn't hate it. Will definitely give the next book a go. (I'm just assuming there'll be another one)

That was pretty disappointing. Alison Hendricks tends to have good ideas - intriguing settings and character constellations - but sadly her stories suffer from feeling too rushed, from too much telling and from staying too superficial.

Here, we meet Travis, a successful NFL player whose career is suddenly brought to a stop by a sex tape his fame-hungry boyfriend published. He moves to his estranged brother, who is a teacher in Glen Sprinhs, a small town in Kentucky. That's where he meets Shane, his brother's best friend. Shane used to be a professional jockey until a tragic incident five years ago, and now he runs a farm caring for horses. He and Travis find themselves attracted to each other immediately, but how can they have a future when Travis is only waiting until the waves of his scandal have calmed down?

I really liked the setting, and I didn't even mind them being instantly attracted to each other - except that they move on the attraction too soon and then everything just feels too rushed. There are plenty of things that could've been explored in this story, but all problems are resolved way too easily and thus unconvincingly. I do think her stories have a lot of potential, but so far Alison Hendricks hasn't used that well. She also has a tendency to use synonyms in inappropriate places - like "garment" instead of "jeans" to avoid repetitions, I guess, but it just sounded off.

I previously enjoyed some of her books, but they're never quite as good as they could be, and this one frustrated me more than anything. I will probably still check out her books because damn it, I love the settings. And I think she can do better. Let's hope she will.

Travis is a high profile all-American football player whose career is in jeapordy after a sex tape scandal goes viral. Trying to stay off the radar, he hides out at his brother's place till things simmer out, but there won't be much simmering when Travis meets Shane.

I liked this story. The characters were great and the plot even better. What I didn't like about the story was that it follows as a branch of from the Eastshore series. I don't mind it, but all the drama with Jake and Travis, I don't remember (if it was even in a previous book from Eastshore). If it wasn't I feel like it shouldn't have been in the story because it takes away from the two major conflicts between Travis and his career, and Travis and Shane. The story doesn't give enough to Jake and Travis for them to have a negative relationship that merits fixing. If anything they should have fixed it up prior (i.e short story).

Shane and Travis are great together, but when stuff blows up between the two of them after a leaked photo of the two of them hits the media, Shane is such a jerk to Travis. Travis has a whole lot more to lose, and the fact that Shane didn't seem to be all that understanding irked me. I did like his semi-groveling gesture at the end of the book, though.

There are parts that people like and some the others won't, but this is as good and maybe even a little bit better than Alison Hendricks' usual stories.

MILD SPOILERS

I enjoy Alison Hendricks’s football books. Who doesn’t like a story about two hot ballers going at it? And while I enjoyed Final Stretch and both of the characters, I had a few problems with this story.
1. Travis’s career is ending because of a sex tape? Really? Let’s take a look at some of the shit that the NFL has hosted over the years: domestic violence, dog torturing/fighting, accessory to murder, drug possession, drug dealing, bar fights, player punching a random woman in the face, player physically abusing a bartender for not being a stripper, and more counts of drunk driving and illegal possession of a firearm than you could fit in a stadium. So I don’t think a sex tape would be a blip on the NFL’s radar.
2. I don’t think Hendricks really knows much about horseracing, and I say this based on generations of family involved in the sport. Here’s why I have my doubts: Apollo’s breed is never established. Now if he’s a quarter horse, then I accept that he is a palomino, but if he’s a thoroughbred, then that’s a damn rare color for a registered thoroughbred racehorse. Why would you have one of the characters be immersed in horses but never establish the breed? Secondly, I don’t know what kind of a track they race at, but this is not the 1890s and tracks no longer shoot off a gun to start a race. They have these newfangled things called starting gates and the gates have bells on them that signal the start of a race. And here is my biggest problem with Shane’s whole story. Unlike the NFL, horse racing has some very strict rules. One jockey was suspended for 25 years for using an electric whip during a race (as well he should have been), another was suspended for 23 years for fixing races. Jockeys are banned for drug use and swapping urine during urine tests. So Shane rode under the influence of drugs and caused a spill that resulted in a horse being euthanized. What was his punishment? We never find out because Hendricks never delves into the details of Shane’s life immediately after the spill. We get these vague hints that he was spiraling or depressed, but nothing more, which leaves Shane seeming underdeveloped.
3. Before Jeremy Jackass released the sex tape that sent Travis into hiding, Travis was about to propose, yet mere days later he is trying to hook up with some random guy in the grocery store. Now, I understand that Jeremy is just the fodder who exists merely to ensure that Travis and Shane meet, but come on. Unless Travis is completely emotionally stupid, there should be some evidence of heartbreak for him, some sense of loss, but he’s over that in the blink of an eye, which again leaves him seeming like he could be so much more with a bit more effort.
While the overall story was enjoyable enough, I was left with the sense that perhaps Hendricks had phoned parts of this one in. I wish she’d put a little more substance into each of the characters.

This is a story I really liked but, I have to be honest, not loved. I had some trouble getting into the story. I felt a certain detachment from the words. They didn’t grab me as much as I would have liked. It might have to do with the fact it is written in the present tense which is not my preferred format.
Another thing is that I felt the beginning a bit rushed. Reading on this feeling totally disappeared and I was hooked till the last page (although still some trouble with the present tense).
Travis and Shane were loveable characters. I could feel the chemistry between them. Although they fall for each other fast and hard trusting the other with their own history is something else. At some point, I really lost hope that they would stick together and there were some emotional moments. The turn of event was a bit of a surprise at first glance but then it did make sense it turned out that way.
It was a pleasant change of scenery that the story took place primarily in a world of horses instead of in a football arena. I loved the connection with all the animals with Otto as the funny clown. How the men needed the horses as much as the horses needed them.
At the end, I had some questions about the relationship between Travis and his brother, Jake. That was getting better but some face-to-face talk at the kitchen table to clear old pains would have been welcome.
Overall, I can say it is a well-written feel-good story with a little bit of angst. It is a book I can certainly recommend.

I absolutely LOVED Alison's first series, Eastshore Tigers and am happy that Glen Springs is just as fun and worth reading. Final Stretch is Travis and Shane's story and it is so sweet it kept me reading until I had finished.

Travis is a former Eastshore footballer and runs to Glen Springs after his 'Travis Morrison brand' takes a hit, and his confidence a knock with the leak of a sex tape and story by the man he hoped would be his HEA. Shane is a former jockey whose career changed one fateful day and since then has retired to a quiet life following a passion rehabilitating horses in Glen Springs. From here, these two strike up a friendship that burns and neither can deny wanting more. Of course, the pull of expectations from all walks of life interrupt and when a picture is released, things become challenging for both Travis and Shane and decisions need to be made.

Will this be a HEA and the right decisions made? I guess the only way to find out is to make a visit to Glen Springs. The only criticism I have is that I wanted a bit more in terms of how some of the relationships developed and ended - i.e. Travis with his ex and how his relationship with his brother Jake got to be so bad, but to be honest, this doesn't really detract from Travis and Shane's tale and I'm probably being a bit picky!

This one is another great read by Alison and I'll be glad to revisit Glen Springs soon!

An ARC was provided by the author in return for an honest review.

I've had the pleasure of being an ARC reader for Ms. Hendricks for several books. While I was impressed at the beginning, I've reached a point where mostly I'm impressed that her style has remained so consistent over the course of these stories. Take that as you will. For me, I'm expecting better with each story, the present tense to not be so in my face, the storyline line to not be so predictable, the trope to not be generic and basic.

Final Stretch is exactly what'd you'd think: Okay, the jockey part was a nice twist, but everything else was as one would expect.

My conclusion, Final Stretch is a good, decent read, a solid three stars. This story won't turn me away from her books, but secretly I'm hoping the next heads back to Eastshore and the cuter college boys of football.

(P.S. You might note my reading dates, because the fact that I put it down and read something else in the middle, sort of speaks a lot to the book losing my interest.)

Travis is the openly gay guy in football, then a sex tape sends his world in a tailspin.
Shane became a farmer recluse in a sleepy little town.
Their worlds collided when Travis is forced to keep a low profile and goes to his brother, where Shane happens to be the best friend.
Their first meeting was iffy to say the least. however they over came the misunderstand and developed a companionable relationship.
Loved how Alison made the relationship believable as both MC's were going through disasters in their chosen field of sport.
Nice easy read, a page turner even though at some point I wanted to scream at Shane when he kept all his thoughts to himself.
Loved how they got their HEA

I completely fell in love with the setting of this book. I loved Shane's Ranch so so much out is the perfect setting for this book and these twos story. Both of these characters have gone through very public situations that have lead them to the ranch. Shane calls it home but Travis calls it a get away and a chance to help out his brothers best friend, maybe in the process he can make a better impression because they didn't get off on the best foot. This story is about finding that thing in life that truly makes you happy. Not just content but deep down happy then finding that person that completes you too share it with. These two characters are electric when they are together and bring out the absolute best you will root for their HEA from the start and it will not disappoint!

Travis and Shane! What a great start to a new series!! First, it's an Eastshore spin off so there is that-which I love, mixed in with the ranch/secluded little town scene that I also love.

Travis is a professional football player who needs an escape after a scandal by the boyfriend he thought he was going to marry, leave's his career in jeopardy. Shane, is his brother's friend and confidant/former jockey who has been out of the limelight for some time due to the pressure that was placed on him, internally and externally.

These two are immediately attracted to each other but try to fight it, not seeing that it could go any further than a fling. But once the spark is ignited, these two quickly realize that they can't really be apart. All in all, this was a quick and enjoyable read!

Not bad!

The first couple of chapters were a little shaky to me. And I was this close to giving up on it because while it wasn’t badly written and the characters weren’t unlikable, I thought for a minute there, the author would make Travis this too-perfect character that it borders on slightly too cocky for my taste. Glad I stuck to it because Travis turned out to be a pretty great guy!

I was also a little worried we’d have ridiculous feuds between Travis and Shane because the blurb made it sound so. But I’m happy that they were mature adults that were able to get past preconceived impressions of each other and work it out. All within a day too!

Boy did Travis and Shane put my emotions into the wringer. Both these characters have been through their share of torment, so to speak, one more recently than the other. But when Travis runs to his brother's place to get away from the scrutiny, the last thing he expects to find is Shane. Especially because Shane is his brother's best friend. When they start having to spend time together what might have been the worse time in Travis' life might just turn out to be the best thing.
I have enjoyed all of this author's books!

When it comes to football romances no one does it better. This book is a prime example. While football is a big part of the story in some way it's not the complete focus. Same as Shane having been a jockey. The emotional turmoil both have been through in their career life and the growth of their relationship are what comes through the strongest. You get deep complex characters. Alison Hendricks always gives me a great story that gives me all the feels I'm looking for. I was given the privilege and opportunity to receive an advanced reader copy and I am voluntarily leaving an honest review.

I’m not sure why, but Trav and Shane just didn’t click for me like most of Alison’s heroes do. The writing of the book was excellent, as always, and I felt that the story was satisfying, but there was something missing that made this book just ok.

I did like that though Travis chose to give up his career as a professional athlete, he didn’t leave football all together. I also liked that he continued to encourage and support Shane as he chose to return to being a jockey.

I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.
