Christmas Key will have to function without its beloved mayor, Holly Baxter, while she embarks on a European adventure with her long-distance love. But when Holly's mother arrives on the island with plans to sell off paradise and build a bloated, gaudy casino on the island's shores, the locals have to pull together to keep her at bay. A shocking island loss throws the locals for a loop while they welcome three new islanders to Christmas Key in Holly's absence, but if she learns nothing else from her trip across the pond, Holly comes home knowing in her heart that it's time to say "yes" to new adventures and big changes.
Stephanie Taylor writes a romantic comedy series about a fictional island called "Christmas Key," as well as several other standalone romance, YA, and middle grade titles.
Really enjoyed this series as I read the first 3 books. The 4th book ruined the entire series. It made me hate the main character Holly- her personality is terrible and her character never grows. The insecurities and immature issues she starts with never change. In addition, the author spends the first 3 books making you dislike her ex Jake and set up a great new romantic possibility only to flip that and make her end up the the character you dislike?!? I have never written a book review, but I am so disappointed with this series and so bummed that I wasted 2 days being sick and reading these books. My $12 would have been better spent at Taco Bell. I will never read books by this author again.
Another fabulous installment in the Christmas Key series with all of our favorite characters! This time Holly Baxter steps away from her hometown island and goes on a whirlwind trip to Europe. As always, things don't go quite as planned for Holly, and a key misadventure early in her trip results in her being unaware of some pretty major developments back home. It's the little things that make this series a real gem, such as the true friendship and easy banter between Holly and Bonnie, the vibrant, eccentric characters, and the often hilarious utterings of the islanders. As always, these books really shine when Holly is in her element on Christmas Key, but the addition of travel is almost like adding an entirely new character. The tension between Holly and Coco builds nicely in this installment, as does Holly's on and off again feelings for Jake. I really look forward to Holly's next adventures and highly recommend this series.
It took me awhile to getting around to reading this book. It had nothing to do with the book but with family issues. As with all the others, I loved it. Part of me says that there could never be a place like Christmas Key. The other part of me says I want to live there. The characters have remained consistent and true to themselves, book after book. This book introduced a few new ones which was fun. I find myself getting deeply involved with all the daily life trials and events. And then frustrated because I have to wait so long for the next story (makes anticipation worthwhile...I did the same thing with all the Stephanie Plum stories). I actually feel like I know some of the characters. Looking forward to #5.
I liked this installment a bit less than the others so far mainly because, like Holly's whole viewpoint on life, it never progresses. It was a bit slow in places, and she just keeps doing the same things over and over, even though she claims to have broadened her horizons- slightly - while in Europe. Unlike some other reviewers, I don't dislike Jake at all, but feel sorry for him, and hope that Holly eventually either falls head over heels for him, or finds the love of her life...a man, not an island. That being said, I love the island and the people and wish it were real!. This book, like Holly, is stuck in a rut.
I’m not sure where this series is going. But apparently I keep reading hoping for some growth. For the happily ever after for Holly. But not with Jake. Jake deserves better. And so does River. I’ll continue with the next book and just hope it gets better.
I cannot stop myself from going to the next book in this series. So good. Family, extended family so very close friends and neighbors, this series has every thing. Not to forget love and understanding.
