A Dance Worth Dancing

Rate this book
Updated cover edition of ASIN B00YG8USCW

Love is a strange thing. It can heal, it can hurt and it can be astonishing. For Rori and Colt, it is all of these things.

Rori is a single mom, looking for love in all the wrong places. Until one fateful night her hero comes to her without her even knowing it. She doesn’t want to give in to what her heart tells her. She has too much at stake to risk a dance on the wild side.

Colt isn’t the type to settle down. He’s been there done that and got left high and dry. He throws himself into his work and living the simple life. Or as simple as he can until the demons come calling.

Can they pull through when it seems like the universe is doing everything in its power to pull them apart? Can love really conquer all?

This was really great for a debut novel. It was a little slow for me at first because I will be honest I didn't think I would care for Rori when it came to where she was working and figured her behavior would annoy me. But I stuck with it and I am glad I did, that issue was dealt with in a way that wasn't annoying and really made sense once I got into the story.

I really liked Colt and Rori although I wanted to slap the shit out of them a few times during their story. I loved Maddox and that is saying something because I usually hate kids being in the books I read, this kid was a great addition to the story. They have their ups and downs as a couple/family and that made getting to the end that much sweeter. One of the best parts was probably that question Maddox asks Colt at the end, I think it out did that whole major scene for me.

I liked the supporting characters too. I was glad to see the friends weren't annoying as hell like some books these days...Jenna got on my nerves only once and that would be the usual nosing into what Colt's dick size was and what he was like in bed. That is just a peeve of mine and I like it best when the heroine tells the chick it is none of her business, because well it's not. lol! But I got over that annoyance with Jenna pretty fast since she was the smart one that gave these two a wake up call that was much needed, so she was totally forgiven. I can't wait to read about her and Nolan, who I am guessing will be the next book and probably will need Colt and Rori to knock some sense into them with a baseball bat judging from what went on with them in this one, it should be interesting.

The only thing that I can say didn't work for me in this one was that the inner thoughts/dialogue of Colt and Rori seemed to be a little long winded at times. I felt like they drifted off in their heads some times and it wasn't really adding to the story at times. But that is very minor and I got what the author was trying to get across with them even if I felt they were a little on the long side.

Overall this was a great start to a new series and I will definitely be looking forward to the next book. Hopefully it won't be long before we get Parker, something about those quiet scary ones.

He Loves Her, She Loves Him. Now Let's Dance

For her Debut Book JL Long did a Fabulous job. ( Grab this book ). Aurora ( Rori ) has been an independent woman for a long time. With the loss of her father at a young age to thinking she found Mr. Right as a teenager, becoming a teen mom to her beautiful boy Maddox. With an Ex that only wants to control her and not be a dad, she is a single parent doing what she has to, to provide for her and her son. Which brings her to working at Bottom's Up as a waitress / dancer. Colt former Military now working S.W.A.T. thinks he is living ( at least he thinks) he doesn't let many people in and keeps his guilt for making it out from his tour and not his friend . One night out with his partners and friends for a bachelor party he ends up at Bottom's Up. This one night sparks things each of them Never thought would. Colt can't stay away and really Rori doesn't want him to, but they each have baggage, Rori's ex will not leave her alone and Colt is suffering from PTSD. Rori is Colt's Satin and Colt is Rori's Hercules together they find their avenging life and Colt finds what he never thought he wanted and love for a woman that rocks his world and keeps him grounded and a boy he loves with all he has. Their journey to happiness isn't a easy one, when you say they have some bumps in the road they sure do. Through it all HE LOVES HER, SHE LOVES HIM. I 100 % RECOMMEND this book.

Who are Kat and Thorn? What kind of business does Rori work at? What is needed of her that night at work and why? Who is Colt? What does he do for a living? Why is he at Rori's job? What happens while he is there? As I get a few chapters into the book, I find out what Colt does for work and what Rori thinks about his job. I kinda feel the same way! Now a thought that Colt had at the club makes sense. When Colt asks Rori out on a date and she agrees, where does he take her? Who does she run into there? What 'more' does she learn about Colt's job at the time? Man, now I want my own Colt! Watching as Colt has issues with PTSD from serving, and how it almost ruins the relationship with Rori, not to mention Rori's feeling that she cannot turn to him to be her rock when things hit the fan with her son's father made me frustrated. What does Calvin do to Rori? What does he do to Colt? What happens when they figure out where he is at? You're going to have to see this frustrating yet sweet romance story with a bit of suspense mixed in. I really enjoyed it and could not stop reading it when I started. Had it read in less than 5 hours because I could not stop.

This is the first JL Long book I've read, and it certainly won't be the last!

What a powerhouse of story, filled with real-life issues many people can relate to.

Rori and Colt meet at the bar where she works, and their attraction is both instantaneous and red-hot. Even though Colt feels an undeniable pull toward Rori, he tries his best to resist it by claiming that his playboy lifestyle suits him just fine. Within a short period of time, he lets go of that notion to become the kind of man Rori has always wanted: lover, protector, and father figure/role model for her young son. In turn, Rori gives Colt a feeling of inner peace he thought was unattainable after surviving an attack that killed a fellow solider and close friend during a military mission gone wrong. The PTSD that plagued Colt since his discharge seems to wane when he's around Rori and Maddox.

A new set of challenges rise to test the bond between the couple. In an exquisite blend of storytelling wrought with passion, raw emotions, suspense, and plenty of action, you'll quickly turn pages to see if Colt and Rori get their happily ever after.

Ms. Long is clearly a talented author who chooses her words carefully and writes with a combination of honesty and realism. I look forward to reading more of her books in the years to come!

I received an ARC of A Dance Worth Dancing from the author in exchange for an honest review.

Aurora (or Rori) hasn’t had an easy,She is a protective single mother to her son Maddox that would do anything to make a living for her and her son even work in a strip club the money is good and it pays the bills, her son was her world and he came first in her life she didn't have for relationships taking care of him and working,Then she met Colt and he made her want more out of life.

Colt a leader of a S.W.A.T team and in the passed was a solder who has his own demons to fight because of the war and losing a love one. He never let anyone get to close to him, Love them and leave them was just the way he was until he met Roni he didn't know why he was so protective of her but he was going to find out.

This is a great story it will make you laugh and cry and there are a lot of up and downs, Roni and Colt are good for each other, they both have to over come things and begin to heal. I high recommend this book a must read 5 Stars.

Swoon....Colt "Hercules" McCade. This was a good story for a debut novel. I bought it on a whim and I'm glad I did.

Aurora or Riley as her friends and family call her is a single mom working in a strip club. She occasionally strips ok. No judging life is hard. She escaped an abusive relationship and is just trying to be the best mom for Maddox. One night while working in comes Colt. He remembers her from one faithful night. He's the war torn hero who is now on the SWAT team. He's damaged goods in his eyes but man does he love hard. This is their story and their journey to happy ever after.
I really liked this book. At times it seemed like a lot of drama packed into one book and maybe some could have been weeded out but I get that it was important to the story. I had no real issues. The sex was steamy (someone get me a fan) and the love was so sweet. I'd highly recommend this book! Kudos to JL Long.

Spoiler Free Review:

I recently read JL Long's debut novel, A Dance Worth Dancing. Let me just say... I LOVED IT!!

For a debut novel, it was very well written. This book easily conveys a wide range of emotions from angst, love, tears and plenty of laugh out loud moments. The underlying subject matter can be a tough one to write about and describe but JL did it beautifully without coming across too dark.

The main characters Colt and Rori both struggle with each other as well as themselves but I can happily say they do get their Happy Ever After and there's no Cliffy! Yay for that! The supporting characters add depth to the story as well as laughs. I can't wait to see how their stories unfold in the upcoming books.

This is book 1 in a series, but each book focuses on a different couple.

I highly recommend this book and will definitely read more from this author.

He loves her. She loves him.
Just that line right there makes me well up with tears.. powerful words from a powerful book.
I got pulled into the story right from the start, I couldn't put it down.
I love Rori, she's strong, independent, loving and will do anything for those she cares about.
Colt... wow. Swooning right here!!!!! I love him. He's protective, kind, broken and perfectly imperfect.
The writing is descriptive, the characters are brilliant and the storyline is flawless!
I will definitely be reading more from J.L Long, I'm excited to see what else she has in her head!
You won't regret reading this book, 5 stars from me!

This romance novel is so far beyond just a raunchy sex fantasy. The love story between Rori and Colt pentetrates your heart. Throughout this book I laughed and I cried. I didn't want to put it down. I loved it! I also had some parts that touched me on a personal level and for that, I can't thank the author enough for including an aspect that isn't widely talked about. On behalf of my own family and others like us, thank you! I look forward to reading future novels from JL Long. This is a must read, don't pass it up!

Rori and Colt's story is about learning to trust, overcome the past and basically just about letting go and willing to take risks. Rori is a single mom determined to make sure her son is taken care of, she has a strong support system and isn't going to be walked on. Colt is a SWAT member, he is loyal, a natural leader and wonderful protector. The story is written smoothly going between both POVs and the characters are developed and relatable. I really enjoyed reading.

Stronger together

Rori and Case are such an awesome couple! Together they fight the demons that haunt the both of them. Individually, they are strong and formidable; but together they are unstoppable. It's not an easy road for them, but they do get their happily ever after and isn't that what we all want?

This book grabbed me from the Author's Note. Having a Bestie who suffers from combat related PTSD, and knowing what he goes through on a daily basis, his fears, his triggers, the sheer struggle, so I was intrigued with this story.
Colt...ex military, now a SWAT lieutenant, avoids relationships. Partly because he has been let down in the past and partly because of his 'demons.' He has to live with them, how can he ask anyone else to?
Rori...a single mother working in a strip club to make ends meet and bring up her young son, Maddox. She too avoids relationships, never believing there could be a real hero for her out there. Her abusive ex, Maddox's father has made her feel worthless.
A chance meeting between Colt and Rori changes everything. Can this couple overcome obstacles and near tragedy to get to the happy ever after they both deserve?
The book was beautifully written, sassy and sexy and often laugh out loud funny. I loved it and look forward to reading more from this author.

Omg what a snooze fest *zzzzzzzzz* of bullshit.

I made it to 25%, but I think I fell asleep three or four times along the way.

Snoozing

Single mom, Rori, is a stripper\cocktail waitress. Usual story of she wants 'better' for herself, but is stuck in the job to pay bills cause she has a kid. *yawn* She meets Colt, a SWAT cop, at said strip club. She, of course, isn't your average Jane stripper... Why, no... She's sweet, smart, innocent, and all that jazz. Despite him getting an immediate lap dance from her; showing off for his boys at her expense; showing up at her grocery the next day asking her out; calling her sweetheart, baby, Satin, and all sorts of other stupid shit... he's, of course, not your average strip club patron. *yawn* *eyeroll* *fingerjab*

Bullshit

description

What follows is a bunch of concocted bullshit back and forth between him saying he doesn't do relationships to him doing everything to pursue her... From him saying he wants more than sex from her to him saying he will not give her a relationship... From him saying he wants to meet her kid to him saying ****ding, ding**** he doesn't want a relationship.

And she's more of the same...

We go from her saying she wants to go slow to her having sleepovers with him.... Being creeped out at his behavior to kissing and fing him.

My biggest pet peeve is a book in which the characters monologue endlessly about what they feel and will and won't do only to actually do the complete opposite. *eyeroll*

Is this your idea of dialogue?

I swear this is like two first graders talking to each other.

Creepy And Off-Putting

description

They go on one date, she doesn't hear from him for four days, she texts him, and he JUST FING SHOWS UP AND IS SITTING ON HER COUCH WHEN SHE GETS OUT OF THE SHOWER! Creepy shit there!

He all but insists she stay the night but gets up at the crack of dawn and is like 'okay, I gotta go .. Meaning you gotta go.' Is that supposed to be romantic? Endearing? Hot? In any case, it wasn't!

Overdramatized

Lest I Forget Overdramatized...

You'd have thought someone went FSOG on his ass the way he CONSTANTLY brings up his ex and how he doesn't do relationships. She wrote him a dear John letter. So what? People breakup all the time. Nothing novel, new, even interesting about this shit!

description

I don't know where this crap is headed, but rest assured that I'm jumping off this train to boredom, trite, creepy, and pathetically lame.

He loves her – She loves him
Rori has to work at the club for a reason – Colt is only there for a bachelor party when she falls into him – those eyes are eyes you never forget and he remembers her but she doesn’t remember him. When they meet at the store the next day it’s the start of a very touching complicated love story that was beautifully written.

Oh my!!! This book was amazing. It kept me glued to my seat for hours reading because I couldn't put it down. Rori being a single mom has a lot of trouble with men. She gets hurt or used more than she finds love. When she least expects it she meets Colt. Will she find love with Colt or will he be another guy on her list.

First impressions are often lasting. Colt remembers the first time he saw her. He hasn't been able to get her off his mind, but to see her here of all places, is unexpected.

Rori hates her job. She works for her son. Waitressing isn't horrendous, but the dancing is. She hates being the center of attention. But it seems like tonight it has its advantages. Mr. Delicious wants to spend time with her.

She never thought she'd meet someone who would take the time to get to know her. She certainly never thought a guy would want to know her son. It seems like a dream come true.

But things aren't always what they seem...

When their goals and desires clash, it seems like Rori is left out in the cold. She needs to move on, but she can't.

Will things continue or will they cut ties? Will Colt realize what he wants? Will they let go off their walls?

It was an intriguing read, but it felt long. I appreciated the dual POV, but Colt's was very repetitive. I seemed a little choppy. I don't know if it was to capitalize on his shaken personality because of the PTSD. If it was, it worked. The copy I have has editing issues.

I do not know why it took me so long to pick up this book and read it! I have read JL Long's work before and have always been impressed! Colt and Rori - what can I say - I am so in love with this couple!! Rori is a stripper at Bottoms Up and Colt is a SWAT lieutenant. They meet at Bottoms Up but it turns out they've already met once before. Colt is a take charge kind of guy but he has some demons that haunt him. Rori is a very independent single mom and is not used to letting others help her, nor is she used to things working out in her favor. I really liked the way the story didn't end right after these two found their way to each other. They had their struggles and arguments that were very realistic and I liked how easy it was to connect to these characters. You want to slap Colt at times while at the same time you understand why he does what he does. I want to be best friends with Rori and by the end of the book, I felt that I was! The secondary characters are great and I have actually already read Jenna and Nolan's book (great book!) and cannot wait to see what is in store for these other tactical men! Highly recommend!
