Leona is a longtime staunch supporter of human rights and environmental causes. Her favourite genre to read is M/M fiction and she particularly enjoys science fiction, fantasy, and action/suspense subgenres—especially if they have a nice seasoning of romance. She has far too many books on her Kindle, has overloaded her phone with even more and, when not reading, writing, being driven to distraction by her children, or being overlorded by her three cats, can be found trying to locate the portal that the sock monster uses to steal socks from her dryer.
I enjoyed the first book, Jared. The world the author has created is interesting and has some neat twists that made a refreshing paranormal world. However, this book felt rushed.
Lamar (Book 2) picks up where Jared (Book 1) ended. I would highly recommend reading Jared first. While there are no cliffhangers, there is a continuing storyline and most of the characters were introduced in Jared.
R.W., a FBI agent, is still getting used to the fact that his long-time work partner, James, is no longer with the FBI. He's also avoiding Laurie, the vampire prince who claims they are mates. Meanwhile, a new business venture for Laurie leads him to a second mate, Lamar. Lamar is fairly new in town and knows nothing about the paranormal world. Laurie tries to tread softly, but Lamar stumbles literally into the paranormal world and gets the shock of his life. I wasn't a fan of R.W. in the first book, but he redeemed himself in this one. Laurie was great. For some reason, I never warmed up to Lamar as much as I should have. In theory, he should be the character the reader has the most sympathy for, but I just didn't feel it. Where in the first book, we see Jared and Steve's relationship progress at a wonderful pace, this relationship seemed forced. There was a lot in their lives, past and present, for R.W. and Lamar to overcome and it seemed glossed over or dealt with quickly.
We also get to see Rafe and Desmond realize that they are mates. James and Silas also have a few scenes, but I felt like I was missing something. I am hoping that we will find out what is going on with them in the next book.
I hate saying this, because I really want to focus on the story alone, but the editing in this book didn't seem as good as the first book.

I absolutely loved book one in this series because, in part, the author has created a very unique world, different from many paranormal shifter stories, so I was excited to return to it. The fact that I liked Laurie from the moment I met him, and I knew R.W. was going to be a challenge, plus throwing in a third mate? Oh, I couldn't wait for the fireworks to begin.
Laurie is prince of the Dark Principality which is located across the veil. When Steve and Jared show him the building they purchased that has the retro 1950s diner on the bottom floor and the rest of the floors are apartments, he can't resist buying it and having his coven, who work at either the bakery or the diner, in a position to live together under one roof. I could only imagine Laurie's surprise when Lamar comes in to apply as a short order cook, and Laurie realizes this is his other mate.
"As rare as it was, Laurie definitely had two mates. One who was refusing to talk to him and busy trying to find another romantic interest, and one who had no idea that he'd just applied for a job at a vampire-run diner."
Once R.W. comes around, so to speak, except for trying to figure out how to tell his religious parents, he and Laurie go back to the diner where Laurie tells R.W. about Lamar. Turns out those two have already met. That's not even the best thing though. The best is when Lamar, when looking for napkins to refill the dispensers, stumbles through something he really shouldn't have. The conversation that follows is a definite highlight for me. *grins*
"Lamar stood up abruptly. “This is too damned weird for me, honey. I know y'all is telling me true, but this here is some seriously fucked up bullshit. Seriously hot, but weird and fucked up. I'm gonna have to take awhile to settle this here info in my brain.”
It was fun watching these three guys figure their mating out. I liked the side story with the humans, shifters, and animals, and I'll be interested to see its conclusion in the next installment. I wasn't as impressed with the writing in this novella. This is just my reaction, but having multiple side stories involving other couples was distracting to me. Also, in my opinion only, some of the things the author chose to focus on took away from the central story of Laurie, R.W., and Lamar, their relationship and mating. Again, this is only my opinion, and other people may not be bothered by it.
If you enjoy a different type of world with many paranormal species, three men trying to figure out what they’re doing, a bit of a mystery, and being introduced to several other pairings, then this might just work for you. It is fun and I liked Lamar, Laurie, and R.W.
NOTE: This book was provided by the author for the purpose of a review on Rainbow Book Reviews
I have just read the re-edited version of this novel, second in the series. The flow is much better and the individual characters are expanded more. RW and Lamar have their own past problems which bring them into the story and hesitantly into a relationship with Laurie, the Vampire Prince. The current revision brings you a bit closer to these characters and the blossoming of their mating. The heat level has been ramped up especially with the secondary characters as they enter into their own Fated Mate relationships. The common thread of a possible hunter among them is very apparent from the beginning to the cliffhanger which will lead us into the next. For those who have read this when it first came out you may want to re-read to give it justice. Overall I loved the story especially when I had the opportunity to become a part of it. I look forward to reading the next. ❤️
While I enjoyed this book and love the world the author created it felt a little rushed and incomplete. Seeing that D.W. and Laurie spent time together and got to know each other some in book 1 "Jared" I didn't feel as much as a connection with Lamar. The story wasn't as fleshed out as "Jared" and it ended abruptly. After reading "Jared" I thought each book would be able to be read as a stand alone. Now after reading "Lamar" it reads more like a serial. I will be completing the series because like I said I enjoy the characters and love the world building, 2.7 stars. I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
tldr; Don't read this the story isn't complete and not enough detail is written. You have to assume a lot.
1. I'm not sure how to describe it but this book was vague almost transparent. It felt like all the details were gone and everything was glossed over. ie. 2. It is too busy. there are multiple plot lines that all need their own story not given a few paragraphs in this book. Nothing feels earned because nothing is detailed enough. Lauriem RW and Lamar: Desmond and Rafe: 3. The book seems unfinished. This seems like the author just gave up and finished the book. Most books I've read have a completed story then go on part 2. This seems like they just stopped in the middle of the book. Lauriem RW and Lamar do finally mate and get a HFN but that is it. The story just stops. angst 1/5/5 heat 1.5/5 story 2/5 POV: multiple
✔ Letto! Per me è ❤ ❤ ❤ e 💋
This is the second book in The Urban Wolves series
These book get better and better with each new couple of three some in some cases plus we have a unknown factor in the mix . Who are these mysterious people who are kidnapping the supernatural beings and how are they gonna get Silas back since his magic has been restricted and he can't save himself . Looking forward to more of this story .
I freakin loved this book... The first was amazing.. and I didn't really know what the second was going to be about because we are introduced to several life mates in the first book and I cannot wait for each of them to get their stories.. This one was about a trio.. which was an amazingly fun read. I loved their banter.. i loved their love.. i loved their issues and their love.. and how they fight to become who they need to be as individuals and also as a trio. I loved them and I cannot wait for the next in this series. I am so glad i got to review it
This ended on a cliffhanger. At the end of the book you are promised the sequel coming in June 2017. It is now December 2020, where is it? I originally gave this 5 stars, after waiting so long for the next book I believe that I have to drop it to 3 . great characters but unfinished
