Samantha knows what hides in the shadows…and now they know about her.

Beautiful, immortal, deadly, and living right under our noses. Vampires are real. How do I know this?

Because I met Adam, and he’s one of them.

My name is Samantha Chase, and I'm a private investigator. My life is about to change forever. Everything I thought I knew about the world around me is wrong, so very wrong.

Death in the desert.

A serial killer with an appetite for young blondes is on the loose in my city, and he’s just added me to the menu. I’m a pawn in a game played by beautiful monsters, and one wrong move could be my last.

If having one immortal after my heart isn’t enough to convince me I'm out of my league, there’s another one after my blood.

When did I become so popular?

Adam may be my only hope. Or he might be the wildest—and deadliest—mistake I’ve ever made.

I requested this book because of the blurb and it didn't disappoint. I binge read paranormal romance and love it when an author tries to put a twist on vampire stories.
Samantha was a smart detective who runs into trouble while working a case. She suffers disturbed sleep and nightmares after that freaky encounter. Adam is drawn to Samantha, but his attraction puts her in the path of Zachariah, who wants revenge.

Meeting Adam completely changes Samantha's life. A serial killer brutally kills women who look like her, Gabe, her neighbour, may be more than a mild mannered professor and her life is in danger.
The love triangle was because of circumstance which made it realistic. Gabe and Adam, were as different as night and day, the author portrays this accurately.
There are other supernatural creatures other than vampires, you learn a little about their history, but you don't get all the answers.

The book was fast paced and unpredictable, Zachariah was menacing and Sam's nightmares added to the anticipation and tension.
I liked Gabe, but as of now, I'm definitely on Team Adam.
The book has a frustrating cliffhanger but I would love to know what happens next.
I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I just have to say, this book was so great!! I loved every fast-paced chapter. R.K. did such a fantastic job developing Sam as a MC. For me, I loved her silliness and her seriousness. I'm also very curious about what she is now, which I suspect is exactly what the author wanted me to be!

By the way, can I just say I'm totally Team Adam! I love his masculinity, his fierceness. Gabe is great too, but I don't think she feels the same about him as she does about Adam. Of course, my opinion is just that, and I can't wait to find out what happens.

I have to say, I'm not usually a very big fan of first person, but I think R.K. did it very well. I loved the descriptions and found myself lost in the story. I am a huge fan of vampire novels, too, so this one hit close to home!

Fantastic job to a great new author and I can't wait to read what's next for Sam, Adam and Gave!

***I received this book in exchange for an honest review from Lovers of Paranormal and the author.***

I LOVED this book. This is why I review for authors who aren't as well known as those of the big publishing houses, there's always this chance that you will find this diamond in the rough of a book, which is SO GOOD, you wonder why they haven't been picked up by a big name yet. It kind of took me by surprise actually. I've been reading so many vampire books lately, I was starting to get worried they'd get a little repetitive, but RK Close played this story just right.

One of my favorite types of romances are "the chase" romances. The slow build of chemistry and attraction, with a hint of what could (and hopefully) eventually will happen. This is why I loved Red Night so much. It had exactly that with Samantha and Adam. *sigh* Adam. Very swoonworthy.

Another swoonworthy addition was Gabe....and for a while I was being swayed both ways also!!! He was great as well.

RK Close's characters are all spot on. Everyone had their own strengths and all equally and awesomely contributed to the story. Even Zachariah didn't feel out of place, I appreciated the flow it all had.

I'm impressed and really really want more of this series. I look forward for what's to come.

5 stars :)

If you like urban fantasy, then this is the book for you. Vampires, Hunters, Werewolves and Faries, they all come together in a book that is definately not your typical book. Sam is strong and confident and definitely not a damsel in distress; that's probably why she has two out-of-this-world (literally) hot guys after her. I don't want to give much details, because this is a book that it's worth buying and reading over and over. All I'm going to say is that I'm not a huge fan of vampire stories, but I can't wait to read the second book and see where Adam and Sam take us next!

Ever since I read Bram Stoker’s Dracula, I have been fascinated by this creature of the shadows, the undead! Over the years vampires became too sexy to be scary and Adam is no exception! Red Night easily became one of my favorite vampire stories. It's one of those unputdownable novel I've read this year. Real life and motherly duties only get in the way sometimes. From page one onward, I found myself completely sucked into the story. No pun intended.

Red Night is one of those books that you can pick up off the shelf and not be sure what to expect. The cover was what got me, though. When I started reading it, I fell in love with Adam. He’s just such an intense character, who is also super sexy and possessive to boot. I enjoyed the fact neither he nor Sam were 2D characters that you can find in some other novels. They were full of life and determination to do what they believed was right. I can stand behind characters like these, especially if there is a lot of sexual tension going on.

In regard to sexual tension, my God. There are two good-looking men and one stubborn woman. I think Samantha is pretty lucky (well, not always) when it comes to being involved with the opposite sex. Sure they’re sexy, but each one has his own baggage.

Still #teamAdam!

There were a couple of missing commas but they didn’t take away from the story in any way. Nonetheless, it is a great paranormal thriller with a good amount of romance in it. Great read.

Oh how I love vampires that toe the humanity line in true wobbly fashion. Fantastic characters and a twisty (and twisted) plot that keeps you turning the page, I can't wait to see what RK Close has in store for book two! Oh, *fans self* I am so Team Adam.

Chase after Sam...

I'm an enthusiastic vampire fan. It's fair to say that I've loved them long enough. I've seen many an iteration of the children of the night; from mindless beasts to those who sparkle and subscribe only to animal blood.

It's been a while though, since I found vampires that follow the cardinal rule: a balance between reason and savagery that allows a monster to pass for human before our very eyes.

R.K. Close gave me those vampires, and a little more. "Red Night", the first book of the Vampire Files introduces us to Samantha Chase. Sam is smart, independent and blessed by both common sense and the initiative to sign herself up for an adventure, if needed be. That serves her well, since she is a private detective.

Used to cases that mostly involve infidelities and other relentless pursuits of the careless, Sam seemed to keep a steady schedule of cases solved and new clients walking in... Until she stumbled upon the impossible.

Vampires. They are real, and in no way what she expected.

In comes Adam, tall, dark and deadly. For any other woman, this might spell doom. But being Samantha Chase... Well, our vampire ends up signing in for more the he bargained for.

The book is a fast paced, entertaining read that paints a believable picture of the other side of existence as supernatural elements weave themselves into the mundane. Soon our Sam will discover that there is more than meets the eye. Friends and neighbors reveal unexpected secrets and those handsome new acquaintances with dead cold stares are bent on dragging her into a centuries old vendetta that can only be settled in blood.

There is a natural flow of dialogue and action that helps along suspense of disbelief. To read "Red Night" is to instantly connect with its main characters, their reasons, and motives. (If you are the kind of person that likes their bad guys plenty, be happy. I'll let you in this one: Adam is a "good guy" you need to be wary of and Zachariah... Well, that one you'll just love to hate.

In summary, if you love your paranormal with a dash of thriller, a bit of romance and well crafted monsters... If you are not much into a damsels in distress and rather have a woman who won't hesitate about rescuing herself... If you are willing to step into a world that promises more than just blood suckers (the vampires are superb, but there is so much more!)... Then this book is for you!

this is definitely one of the most amazing books I've ever read I started following RK on Wattpad she was so gracious to share her talents with us for free that I can't wait for a book to come out in paperback so I can buy it. it's that good I don't even know how to express my feelings about it I don't have the words it makes you hold your breath and every time you think you figured it out there's something else happens and your back thinking I have no idea what's going to go on now those books that you can figure out in the first couple of chapters I'm not crazy about but hers keep you guessing till the very last chapter and it's very exciting and tasteful to say that I'm in love with this series is an understatement if you enjoy this genre then this will become quickly one of your favorites. RK Close. is very humble and even when very busy in her personal life she finds time to post and time to reply to your comments or your emails whatever it is she finds the time even before she got on Amazon when she was just on a free site that's very important to me because so many authors forget who put them where they are and she does not this sounds more like an endorsement for her but I'm telling you it cones through in her books I don't think her talents have any boundaries they're just going to continue to get better and better and I for one want to be able to enjoy her writing for a long time to come

Samantha is a witty private investigator who loves a challenge. She’s funny, and all around an amusing character. But, she’s smart too and knows when she’s in over her head. A blue-eyed mystery man catches her off guard while on the job and he ends up really putting Sam to the test.

Who is “Blue Eyes”? Only Adam, a vampire who’s interested in Sam, but not as a meal. He finds her intriguing and can’t bring himself to detach from the fascinating mortal. Not like he has the option to, as he becomes the only one able to save her life.

This book is almost a grown-up version, better version, of Twilight where the main character isn’t a boring girl with the personality of a potato, but a vivacious low-level spy with charm and humor. And instead of a winy teenage virgin vampire with his panties in a twist, we get a calculated hottie with bright blue eyes that know what he wants and how to get it.

But it’s not all building up to romance. There’s a murderer on the loose. His victims are all young blondes that the killer tears apart in brutal ways. You know who else is a young blonde? Yeah, Samantha. Is she going to be a victim? Will she solve the case? And who’s the killer? The list of suspects gets longer as the book goes on. There are a lot of questions in this novel and Close sets you up early for a wild ride. Overall, it’s a good read and there’s plenty of mystery to ponder as you go through. Luckily, it’s part of a series so your adventure with Sam can continue.

*ARC provided by author in exchange for an honest review*

I am so, so, so happy to have read this book! It is absolutely amazing! The writing style, the story line, the characters, the dialogue, everything is phenomenally amazing. I LOVE IT! It is so very well written.

The characters were really well done in this book. They're the USP. I adore the characterization in this story. All the characters are well written, complex and deep who have so many facets to them that they just surprise you at every turn. They've got so much depth and the myriad of emotions that is depicted through their actions is absolutely gorgeous. I have to tell you, they're just amazing, amazing characters. I love them. They're awesome and kickass and hot and passionate and protective and possessive and just so freaking shit amazing, I don't have the words!

One more thing that I love is that the book is fast paced. There is no wasting time in pleasantries and that makes it so much better. The story is moving forward with each page and each action and emotion and that is just awesome.

Of course, there is the love triangle that will not get into. As you guys know, I'm not a huge fan, but hey! They're okay. At times. We'll just say this is one of those. I was extremely satisfied with the ending though, so I won't curse it much!

Now, I CANNOT WAIT for book two!!!!

Good first book in a PNR/UF, let down a little by the totally predictable and annoying love triangle. Sigh. Only can you really call it a love triangle when it is obvious from the get go who the winner will be. I mean why even bother. There was never any doubt in my mind that she would end up with dark brooding vampire, Adam. I mean why would she choose the nice, hot, living vampire hunter she has been crushing on for months who gave her a family heirloom artifact and his own blood to save her life at risk of his own when she can have the brooding, mysterious stalker that breaks into her house several times and disregards her wants and opinions ‘for her own good’. Not that I dislike Adam, it was just so cliché that the nice guy who is actually suited to her isn’t the one she picks. Now all that sounds like I didn’t like it whichis not the case at all. In fact I am very keen to read the next one. Aside from the stupid love triangle it was very enjoyable. The characters were likable, the action was good and I am keen to find out more about Sam’s potential non human heritage.

Dark, thrilling and full of suspense!

If you love all things vampires, then this is the book for you. I was instantly captivated and drawn into Samantha's world. The characters in this book are so well defined, you feel as if you're living inside the book itself - a movie playing inside your head. I couldn't put it down!
When Samantha takes a job to gather evidence on a cheating husband, her entire world is turned upside down. What she finds is so much more than she ever expected - supernatural creatures actually exist and Adam's one fine specimen.
He drives her insane, yet she can't stop thinking of him. Then there's her neighbor, Gabe; a man she's crushed on for over six months.
When things in Samantha's life take a dark turn, these men do everything they can to protect her.

There's so many twists and turns, you're left breathless with anticipation - dying to know what's going to happen next. This is an absolute must-read! Five-stars!

I requested to R2R this book and was not disappointed. This is a great series and I will be checking Amazon for the rest of the trilogy.

"Sam" our spunky PI is on an assignment and following "the other woman" for her client when she sees her leave a night club with another man. She follows them to take a picture of the other man and meets her nightmare. The vampire, Adam, tries to mind control Sam and when it doesn't work Adam really gets interested in her. Adam and Sam are the main characters and you just love following them.
There is also Dayna, Sam's BFF. There is Gabe Sam's neighbor that turn out to be more than he seems.
There is Jacob Adam's friend. There's Russel a retired detective and there is Zac, the villain.

I didn't tell all about the characters didn't want to give away to much. This was a really exciting read.
It starts right in and just keeps moving.

I won a copy of this book in a Goodreads giveaway.
The blurb on the back of the book doesn't do this story justice. I had expected a rather standard vampire story centering around Zachariah. What I found was a much more interesting story told from the perspective of the heroine Samantha. She is a great character -- strong, funny and engaging. She is surrounded by great secondary characters, especially Adam and Gabe. What can I say about them but WOW? There is a lot of action in this book; the pacing is so good that the story seems to flow naturally. It was a fast read I that finished in one day. I was a little disappointed that the ending left things unresolved ... I can't wait to find out the rest of the story.

R.K. has delivered an enticing and riveting story line that will keep you on the edge of your seat panting for more.

The story line is original (don’t expect Twilight) with elements that will make your skin crawl, giving us characters that are original and relatable.

Without divulging too much, Samantha is dating a hot vampire, thrown into a paranormal nightmare, with powerful villains against her every move.

The protagonist has a strong voice, and one that you’ll be rooting for during the wrath she faces.

Romance, thriller, darkness consuming the light, you’ll find this book to be a true pager turner.
R.K. executed a story line masterfully and daringly. I recommend this book for anyone that wants to be devoured by a thrill and romance entwined in one …

I have no doubt that R K Close will become a new queen of urban fantasy! I was fortunate enough to read the very first draft of this story when it was available on Wattpad and found myself absolutely hooked!
The unique job of the lead female, being a private investigator, sets everything up perfectly for the plot which unfolds. Have no doubts either that there are plenty of twists and turns and chapter ending cliffhangers which will leave you ignoring the clock and reading through the night.
Any paranormal lover will adore this book and be eagerly awaiting installment number 2. The male lead, Adam, is just delectable in every sense of the word. I promise you will not be disappointed!

AWESOME!!!!!!

I fell in love with this book. Samantha is spying on a woman for a client. She follows her to a parking garage and finds her making out with a handsome vampire. Oops. Adam, the hot vampire pays her a visit and finds out he can't compel Sam. Very interesting.

Sometimes you want to strangle Sam and Adam. Their either fighting or hot for each other. But there's a vampire out there who wants to hurt Sam and Adam is doing his best to keep her safe, but Sam doesn't stay put very well.

I'd recommend this book to young adult and older. Very addicting

Audiobook review: Red Night is a paranormal romance story in which a private investigator, Samantha, stumbles upon a paranormal event only to become an unwilling subject of fascination for a vampire. An age old vendetta placed Sam in trouble but a Hunter & a pair of Vampires are there to help out. Life is not easy for anyone and danger lurks in many shapes. Oh, and the love triangle will leave you rooting for the vampire or the hunter. The narrator did a nice job. I received a free copy of this audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

Everyone has secrets, including the heroine Samantha Chase. Sam poses as a telemarketer to her friends but in real life, she is a private detective. Investigating what appears to be a run of the mill cheating spouse case, Sam stumbles into more secrets than she bargained for. Vampires are real. And that is just the opening chapter! What follows is an enjoyable mixture of romance, intrigue and suspense, everything you want to find in a good book.

A promising new series

Initially, I disliked *something* in the beginning of this book. (Not sure what, maybe just getting used to the author's writing style? Idk) The story was exciting enough for me to continue on, though, and I'm very glad that I did. I really enjoyed it towards the end, and I can't wait to find out what happens next!! Interesting characters, in a very exciting "world".

Oh wow, was this boring🥱 NO suspense at all. The plot revolves around beautiful people with angelic faces and bright blue eyes. Every person in this book looks hot, gorgeous, etc.🙄 Every guy in the book was kissing the (virgin) h, because she is so "special" and wanted to be with her.😒The love triangle was the worst I've ever read. No character development whatsoever. Who rated this book with 4*?🤨

Vampire romance

This book is written very well. You can get lost within the storyline, even with not knowing every little detail. Close seems to be the type of author that let's secrets out slowly, dropping hints to keep a reader intrigued. Readers that enjoy fantasy with a touch of romance will greatly enjoy this book.

Probably closer to 3.5 for me. It took quite a bit for the story to really get going, and I felt that there was way too much time spent in frivolous details, like a full paragraph describing the bartender whom we never see again when a single sentence would do just fine. It was an interesting story once it got going, but not sure if that was enough for me to continue the series.
