Cassandra Wynstrom and her parents are guests at the queen's capital city of Aurialus where she is drawn into a world of secrets, and unwittingly takes part in a play that mimics an ancient war between the Humans and Empians, thus sparking a prophecy to life. This also ignites interest from her enemy: it isn't long until Cassandra is pursued by Lharkin, an Empian who spawned vampires under the orchestration of the Dark Guardian of the Night Realm. She holds the key to a prophecy that can destroy the last of his kind and unless he convinces her to join him out of her own free will. As Cassandra discovers her powers and the shocking truths of the Empians' past, she questions who her real enemy is. Her answers are in another land where a mystical temple awaits.
Can she redeem Lharkin's soul from the Night Realm before the next war takes place? Or will she have to face the one she is falling for?
Join Cassandra in her ventures into an epic world full of discovery, battles, and spirit domains controlled by the Light and Dark Guardians!

This is not a quick easy read at 374 pages. This is a book you settle in with because you need to know what's going to happen next. Cassandra Wynstrom is special because if her ancestry. Her paternal grandparents tried to tell her father about Ayella and how she related to Cass, but he refuse to listen and moved away without telling his daughter any of his parents nonsense. The first few chapters had me confused, but that confusion also keep me reading. Things become clearer the further you go into this story watching Cassandra's destiny unfold. This story is well written, however the book I received had some editing errors. The story itself had a little different twist to vampires, I liked that they seemed almost neutral all times, then all lovey and good, or all evil, but not all of one all the time. I think could have been more world building though. The story has a lot going on to pull the reader into the story. It has likeable characters and characters you'll like to dislike.
The characters are strong and well-written, but this book has a ponderous first half. It starts to pick up around Chapter 17, when elements start coming together and the crux of the story begins to become clear, but it's still a long way to Chapter 76. The story ends on a precise note that is perfect for continuation in Book 2, and the main character, Cassandra Wynstrom, is a heroine with issues and doubts--which makes her interesting and likeable even as we suffer with her through some difficult situations.
