Alyssa Satin Capucilli was born in Brooklyn, New York, in 1957. She graduated from Sarah Lawrence College, and pursued her interest in dance, becoming a professional dancer and dance instructor. Though Capucilli had written stories, poems, and even puppet shows as a child, she didn't consider a career as a writer until after her own two children were born. To this day she sees herself as both a dancer and a writer, and the two professions complement each other nicely: dancing is, in her words, “telling stories in another way,” and readers of her children's books can attest to the rhythm of her language. Since 1994, she has written more than 15 books for children, and her work has been translated into French, Hebrew, Afrikaans, Greek, and Bulgarian.
Capucilli lives in Hastings-on-Hudson, New York, with her husband and children. They have a chocolate Labrador retriever named Huckleberry, who likes to watch the author at work.
SUPER FAST REVIEW: I haven’t been reviewing some recent Biscuit reads for a reason that is potentially a stupid complaint for a series of children’s books but it’s this: my thoughts are more-or-less the same each book with not much to talk about. That being said I am still enjoying these books as they are very cute and humorous! This one is definitely in the cute and humorous category for the most part. That being said it’s also kinda in the predictable category. Humorous note: there’s one scene where some people told Biscuit that some cookies weren’t for him and my dog growled at that. Overall, cute fun but this series isn’t making me absolutely love each book like it was towards the beginning (though still good and keep in mind I am an adult so kids might still love every single one over and over again).
I like that the Biscuit's owner in the story is referred to as "the little girl". It maks the story really seem like we're reading from the point of view of the dog.
Cute enough little holiday read for very young children. Many children will enjoy it because it has characters they are familiar with (very cute characters, at that). It’s a very simple story where they just deliver Valentine’s to their friends, but it’s enough for very little children.
Absolutely adorable. Bright colors, includes everyone’s favorite dog Biscuit and best of all, this book offers the reveal page which the children get to open (on every page) which keeps the preschooler fully engaged during reading time.
What a sweet book about Biscuit and Valentine's Day. I love that they deliver all sorts of Valentines and Biscuit is allowed to behave like a dog. I miss my dog!
The most inane ‘story’ ever. Unfortunately my 3-year-old is obsessed and I’ve had to read it way too many times to count. She won’t let me skip any of the « woof woof » s either. -.-
Genre: Fiction. 2nd-3rd grade. I loved reading this book to my kids because it has such a cute puppy on the face of the cover and it`s about Valentine`s Day. It`s about a little girl and her dog named Biscuit that have planned to deliver valentines to friends. They go around town and deliver valentines to friends and family. A good book to read to elementary age students.
It’s Valentine’s Day, and Biscuit and the little girl are preparing their cards. It seems like they’re finished! Time to deliver them. First off is Daisy, who is hiding under the couch. They then go outside to deliver more valentines. There’s Puddles the cat, who is Biscuit’s best friend. They also deliver valentines to the little girl’s grandparents! When they come home, they are very tired. Wait… What is that in the mailbox? It’s two more valentines just for Biscuit and the little girl. Happy Valentine’s Day!
Reason for Recommendation: This book is part of the classic Biscuit series. It shows how you need to express thanks and admiration towards others during this part of the year with gifts, cards, and more. It has won the Washington Irving Award, Garden State Award, Bank Street College Best Book Award, and the Oppenheim Portfolio Gold Award.

The Biscuit series is great for children 3-5yrs. of age. This story was read to the children at Barnes & Noble children's story hour and they simple loved it. Children have an automatic attraction to animals (dogs in paticular), so to see them as companions in a book makes it enjoyable and overall fun for them. Througout the story, the children would openly share personal experiences. It's entertaining but also teaches them responsibily and promotes social development.
It is Valentine's day and Biscuit and the little girl go deliver their Valentine's gifts to their friends. I would have liked this more if every page just wasn't something along the lines of "they went to (blank's) house". I guess it's good because you get to see all of their friends but I prefer something more than just seeing each of Biscuit's friends.
I love the Biscuit series! Biscuit is such a great character, a cute puppy always getting into trouble. Also, most kiddos love to read about animals, especially puppies. I think they are great beginning to read books. This particular one is Valentine's Day themed and have pull back flaps that are fun to lift in order to see what Biscuit is doing next.
I didn't realize this was going to be a flip book. My daughter loves flip books. This was a cute book for Valentine's day about passing out Valentines to all of Biscuit's friends. My daughter really enjoyed seeing the different animal friends.
My special needs teen age son and my preschool aged granddaughter both really liked this book. Of course Biscuit is one of their favorite characters we read about. This book is also a lift the flap book so after you read a short sentence you lift the flap and see what Biscuit is "up to".
I read this book to three kindergarten classes. It was OK, and anything Valentine was good for them. They did enjoy the flaps that opened on the edges of some pages. Very little plot.
