FROM EXCITING GAY ROMANCE AUTHOR JON KEYS Garrett escaped the death threat from his family, but the Texas Panhandle is where he may be at the end of any hope. After being thrown out by his parents, Garrett’s planned escape ended when the last of his money landed him in a tiny West Texas town with no more resources than a backpack with his entire worldly goods and the change in his pocket. He huddles behind a dumpster to avoid the broiling noonday heat. As the sun moves below its apex, one of the workers from the convenience store tosses a few bags of food past its prime into the dumpster and Garrett is soon surrounded by the scent. His hunger overcomes his caution and Garrett takes advantage of a distraction to slip into the trash and snag the food. Garrett finds himself threatened by a group of locals when he discovers the bags hold more than stale burritos. Trevor, the manager of the regional farmers’ co-op, rescues him before he goes to jail. A day later, after a hot shower, fresh clothes and a full stomach, Garrett is excited to have a possible solution to his problem. When pieces disappear from an unusual collection of jewelry, Garrett and Trevor team up to find the actual thief.
This was an enjoyable read with a good storyline. I would have liked more character and relationship development, but Trevor and Garrett both seemed like likable characters. It didn’t really feel like a romance per se, but it’s well-written for the most part, although the sex talk came off a bit on the cheesy side, but still, it was a quick and enjoyable read that’s recommendable.

Garrett has been kicked out of his home, with a threat hanging over his head. He’s spent all his money on a bus ticket that won’t get him to his true destination, and ends up in the panhandle of Texas. He finds a place to hide, between dumpsters, just to survive one day. The hunger is too much to bare, so when the chance comes, he sneaks into the dumpster and grabs two bags. But he gets caught.
Trevor just happens to be one of the cowboys who catches Garrett, and saves him from being accused of stealing. Trevor owns a co-op, and gives Garrett a job and a chance to redeem himself. When precious merchandise goes missing from the co-op’s display case, Garrett puts his computer geek talents to work to solve the crime—and his reputation.
Throwaway is an easy and quick read, with a little drama and some heartfelt moments. I thought the author did a really nice job of giving insight into Garrett and Trevor’s characters, and the growing relationship between an older and younger man.
A short mystery with a sexy ending. Garrett has been thrown out by his parents after he came out to them. He ends up in a small town where he is falsely accused of theft. His knight in shining armor is Trevor, manager at the local co-op. Their attraction is immediate, but Trevor has Blake, and Garrett doesn’t want his first time to be a one-night stand. Both guys are great characters. Trevor is a good man, maybe too good regarding Blake. He lets Garrett sleep and work in the co-op. Garrett is a hard worker, open and honest. They work together to solve the mystery of the stolen Navajo art with a surprising culprit. It is not long before Blake is out of the picture and Trevor and Garrett can really be together, celebrating in a very sexy way. This story is part of the anthology Right Here, Right Now.
