Alina may have saved the mate of a dragon, but that didn’t make her the friend of any dragons.

And the feeling is mutual. The dragon’s have no used for her either.

Except for Smoke.

This hunky powerful dragon has decided he has to have the fae healer as his mate. Come hell, high water, dragons, or fae.

This story started off strong ultimately it did not grab me how I expected it to. I liked Alina and Smoke but I wanted to see them together so much more. The major conflict of the book was too easily resolved for it to have kept these characters apart for the whole book.

There is one chapter with the couple together. And one scene where either character sees the other in their “true form”. I mean… what’s a dragon shifter book with no actual dragon-y bits in it?! It was just thrown in at the end. And it was rather rushed.

The story was ok. I don’t know if I will continue on with this series.

Smoke is the second book in the Dragon Heartbeats series by Ava Benton. It is part of The Dragon Heartbeats Series Boxset. This is my first read by Ava Benton, so I really didn’t know what to expect from one of her stories- but the blurb sounded promising and had my attention at ‘Dragons’- so I snapped up a copy and set off on the adventures.
This is a paranormal romance series, each book following different characters, but weaving an overarching background story which provides a much ‘bigger picture’. With dragon shifters, damsels in distress, fated mates, chemistry, sparks, action, adventure, supernatural elements, Fae, protective Alpha-male types, threats, challenges, fate/destiny, a little humour, danger, a quest, treasure, and dramatic developments- all in one convenient package, made for hours of hopeful reading.
While I normally love a great dragon shifter romantic suspense- this series, unfortunately, didn’t meet my expectations- I think I came away with more questions than answers here. A lot of ambiguous information, and threads that didn’t develop or lead anywhere. Left me wanting more. The premise holds a lot of promise but missed the mark for me.
There are more books in this series, but I am unsure if I will continue them at this stage. Stay tuned.
But if you like dragon shifter romance, damsels in distress, fated mates, and spicy details- then you should probably read this series for yourself and make up your own mind.

Alina and Smoke

Smoke met Alina in the last book. She is Jasmine's sister. Smoke knows she is his mate but lets her go home. When goes back to the fae clan trouble starts. Her Uncle George gives her to Bradley since Jasmine is no longer there to marry him.
She looks past Bradley's glamour and sees a horrible monster. She runs away. Can Smoke and her sister find her in time to save her?
Loving this series!

Enjoyed the Story

This is a very well written story. I had not read the first book but was able to jump right into the story.

I really liked the richness of the characters. You really get to know them in a short period of time.

The chemistry is strong between the two and I liked that they both narrate the story.

Smoke

I think it's that snake Ryan who is going to hold Carissa's nephew hostage in the next book. They're getting more and more interesting every book I read. I'm excited for the next book.

Better than the first book, but this one still barely even has the couple together and they’re in love.

No depth and no ending...what about the uncle? Just by the way the author described him am I supposed to believe he’s just gonna disappear or not search?

Smoke turns up the charm and intensity. Alina’s not beloved by the dragons, but Smoke couldn’t care less-he’s got one thing on his mind: mate. Their dynamic is fun and fiery, with a strong romantic pull and some real emotional heat. The story is tighter here, and the fae-dragon tension continues to sizzle in the background.
