I decided to read the first in the Keith Houghton series 'Killing Hope', when I realised I could get this prequel/stand alone novel, so I've read it first. The story started with the murders of three starlets, who had appeared in a film together, who each died after being strangled with an American flag and then posed. The fourth star, Shauna, looked to be the next/final victim of the 'Star Strangler'. I enjoyed the story that followed which introduced us to policeman Gabe Quinn. It was an up-to-date American crime story with a hint of black comedy at times, as well as a serious side. We found out about Gabe's personal & professional background which I'm sure will feature in the next story. I'm reading Killing Hope next as I want to continue with this enjoyable character.
Chasing Fame is a Gabe Quinn prequel to this series full of murder, mayhem and suspects. There are Hollywood stars who are murdered just before the Oscars and no evidence as to who is responsible until a crucial mistake is made by the killer.
Gabe is on the chase once he discovers who the killer is and will stop at nothing even endangering his own life. This character is unstoppable as the action ratchets up and keeps the reader avidly engaged.
This author knows how to describe scenes that create vivid impressions in the reader’s mind thus creating an enjoyable reading experience. I look forward to more stories in this series with this intriguing character.
Oh, I was so excited to get another Gabe Quinn thriller in my hands! And to have a prequel to answer all my little questions too. This definitely was what I was waiting for but didn't realize until I read it. As a fan of this author, this book lived up to my expectations. It had the serial killer and the amazing Celebrity Cop in all his glory, ready to solve this monstrous case. The action takes off right away and never seems to stop. What more could a thriller reader ask for? Definitely a 5 stars from me.
I've thoroughly enjoyed all of the Gabe Quinn novels, and this was no exception. It was interesting to follow all the threads leading into the later books in the series, while still managing to craft a superb thriller which stands on its own merit. Mr. Houghton has been a favorite author of mine for quite a while, and I strongly recommend you read all the books he's written; you're guaranteed several roller-coaster rides! A+ and 5 *****
Having read and enjoyed two of the author's stand alone thrillers 'No Coming Back ' and 'Before You Leap' I was looking forward to embarking on the 'Gabe Quinn' series. Alas, I found this 'prequel' largely unrewarding. One dimensional characters and a transparently thin plot, the killer was obvious from his first appearence. I doubt I will read any more of the Gabe Quinn stories based on this experience.
What a fantastic read. I loved the Hollywood setting and characters. Sleazy agents, moody starlets, shifty media types, the Oscars - brilliant stuff. Gabe Quinn is such a likeable character: tough and cynical, but warm and even a little vulnerable at times. Chasing Fame moves at great pace and you won’t be able to put it down. A very exciting and enjoyable read. Get yourself a copy now!
This is my 4th Anthony Houghton in a row. This one is a precursor to the Game Quinn Trilogy. Well plotted, fast paced, too short and not quite up to the incredibly high standard that I expected having been spoilt by the previous 3 reads. Still a good story, though, and a good intro to the series. The proof of the pudding will be the next book, ''Killing Hope". I have high expectations!
Really enjoyed reading a Gabe Quinn story that takes place before Killing Hope, Crossing Lines and Taking Liberty, this was just as fast and exciting as the others, Gabe Quinn is pretty awesome, bring on the next instalment.
Always enjoy reading stories from this author. I read the Gabriel series a few years ago and was blown away. Do good. I was happy to find this prequel.
