Hell is a six-by-six jail cell and no hope for the future.
Kell Iverson has never raised his hand against another person in his entire life—and yet somehow he’s been arrested and charged with the murder of his alpha mate Krause. Sure, Krause brutalized him on a daily basis, and Kell hated his mate, but he never wanted the man dead. Not fighting the charge and accepting his fate is the easiest path—except Kell doesn’t think he’ll survive a week in prison, and he doesn’t want to disappoint his younger brother Braun by giving up. He also doesn’t expect to recognize the lawyer who shows up to defend him.
Ronin Cross was barely eighteen when he felt the mating bond with then-fourteen-year-old Kell, but his family moved away before Ronin could decide what to do. For the last ten years, he hasn’t forgotten teenage Kell, hasn’t mated, and now he’s in Sansbury Province to defend adult Kell from a capital murder charge. The mating bond is still there, but now isn’t the time to pursue anything with his fragile, battered, emotionally-damaged client.
For Kell, the term “kind alpha” is a contradiction, because he’s never known one. He went from abusive father to abusive mate, and for twenty-four years, he’s simply done what he’s told. But Ronin asks Kell what he wants. What he likes. Ronin sees him, and it’s both confusing and delightful. But Kell is facing prison time at best, execution at worst, and as his trial date looms, he can’t indulge in a fantasy that will never come true…or can he?
NOTE: This is a non-shifter Omegaverse story with alpha/omega/beta dynamics, heats, knotting, and mpreg. In this world, omegas are second-class citizens with few civil rights and almost no protections under the law. Trigger warnings for physical, emotional, and sexual abuse.
No stranger to the writing world, A.M. Arthur has been creating stories in her head since she was a child and scribbling them down nearly as long. She credits an early fascination with male friendships (bromance wasn't a thing yet) with her later discovery of and subsequent affair with m/m romance stories. When not writing, she can be found in her kitchen, pretending she's an amateur chef and trying to not poison herself or others with her cuisine experiments. This was a lot of court procedure - but I loved it. My fave stories are hurt-comfort where the person has to overcome abuse and torture type past to find love. This is that - and it's not as graphic for those who are squirmy about reading that stuff. The love grows but the Alpha is a bit too perfect. Kell needed that but it doesn't mean I wouldn't of liked a bit of grit with my alpha. I was so very anxious to read this and it consumed my flight from DC to Dallas - so a good length too!
I knew this was gonna be a rough read and bring up a lot of bad memories (thankfully none as horrific as Kell endured)...but totally worth the pain. I love this world AMA has created; I admit that I wanted this story more than I did the last one (and in her forward AMA notes that this is the story she meant to tell first, but Braun's bit needed to lead the way)...but each of these stories is so well-connected, with the case and issues from the first book coming to a head in this one, that I'm eagerly anticipating all the rest.
So ending a book slump by trying something new and it has not been a disappointment. This story was so sad and hard to read at times. The pain that Kell endured was brutal but him finally finding love and peace was so beautiful to read. I am so hooked on this story and this world. Definitely recommend to all my M/m fan friends.
I like this one more than the first one I don’t know, but I found Braun a little childish and annoying. I feel like his partner Tarek gives more in the relationship than Braun. But anyways, that’s not important. I really like this one because I liked how the trauma didn’t just go away you know. I felt like it was more realistic that way they took their time and of course, they made it known that it may never happen. I guess it wasn’t unrealistic it was very realistic and I really liked that.
*Although it features a different couple, this is not a stand alone
Kell's mate ends up dead and he is the main suspect. He also has no memory of the night.
Ronin is his teenage crush, a lawyer who is hired to defend him. He's a bit older and bonded to kell, but his family moved away before Kell was old enough to mate.
They fall on love while trying to find out what happened to Krause, Kell's husband.
This was every bit as compelling as the first book and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I was routing for this couple and hoping that there was a way for them to be together. I also like that we do see Braun and his mate as well as the beta couple.
Seen picks up immediately after Saved: An Omegaverse Story ends and I wouldn’t suggest reading this as a standalone. If you haven’t read the first book yet, this review and the blurb itself will contain some spoilers of that first book.
This is Kell’s story and it’s much more emotional than the first was, as heartbreaking as it is joyful. Kell has spent his life in hell. First under the thumb of his abusive father and then mated to an even worse Alpha, Krause Iverson, who brutally abused and tortured Kell for three years. Kell is now awaiting trial on the murder of Krause. Kell has no memory of what happened, but he knows he was found in bed, next to his murdered mate with his fingerprint on the murder weapon. Kell’s younger brother Braun and his mate Tarek have hired Tarek’s college roommate, Ronin Cross, to defend Kell. Kell and Ronin knew each other briefly in their teens, but haven’t seen each other in 10 years. What Kell doesn’t know and Ronin does is that Kell is Ronin’s bondmate. Kell’s trial is precedent setting as an Omega has never been tried for murdering his Alpha. The stakes are high, but the personal stakes are even higher. Ronin will do anything to protect Kell, but first they all have to survive the trial.
If you’re reading this review, I’m going to assume you’ve already read Seen and completely felt for Kell. You know his past isn’t pleasant, but what was shown in that book only scratched the surface of how much abuse he suffered. It’s not easy to read and you should definitely heed the trigger warnings.
Kell is understandably in deep despair. As strong as Kell is, he is afraid for his life in prison, mostly afraid of the reach of Senior Iverson. He fully expects that he will not survive to see a trial. He is mourning the loss of baby Branson, afraid that he has put his brother in danger and there are times he feels it would be better for everyone if he wasn’t around. He believes that even if he makes it out, he is used up and would be a burden. Certainly he would never have another mate. When Ronin appears and promises to do everything to defend and protect him, Kell wants to believe, but Ronin being an Alpha doesn’t inspire trust. Other than his brother’s mate Tarek, he hasn’t met a kind Alpha and he’s still not convinced he can trust Tarek. When Ronin steps in as Kell’s guardian and they spend almost all their time together, it becomes hard for Kell to deny the bondmate and it also starts to slowly become clear that Ronin is like no other Alpha he’s ever met.
Ronin has never forgotten Kell. When they met Ronin felt Kell had been too young in to be pressured into a mating and now he knows Kell is in no position to consider it for a whole new set of reasons. Ronin won’t let that stop him from doing everything in his power to save Kell and make him see how precious he is in Ronin’s eyes. Their relationship is fraught with potential disaster, from health issues to the possibility of Kell going to jail for the rest of his life. If you’re in the market for a new book boyfriend, Ronin just might fit the bill. He is smart, sexy and sweet. His respect and love for Kell is just heart-melting. Their relationship builds slowly, and with Kell approaching his first heat since his pregnancy, Ronin once again proves just how much he treasures Kell.
Aside from the love story and trial procedural, there is plenty of tension. Senior Iverson is a loose cannon and there is no question that he would be happy to see Kell dead and wouldn’t hesitate to go after those Kell loves as well. Everyone from the first book is back again, Braun and Tarek, Dex and Serge, and even Constable Jenks. As far as the Mpreg goes, it is discussed and a part of the story, after all Kell is still recovering from having nearly died delivering his child in the previous book, but there is no actual pregnancy storyline here in this installment.
A.M. Arthur got me with this one. It started off with tears of sadness and worked its way up to tears of joy. There was romance, steamy sex, heart in your throat moments and there were some surprises too. If that wasn’t enough, one tantalizing little piece of information that is dropped near the end that I hope we get to see play out in the next book (no, there’s not a major cliffhanger in this one). With another book on the horizon I wonder if it will be Alpha Constable Jenks falling? He certainly has grown since he was introduced and would be interesting to see him as an Alpha at the mercy of a bondmate. I’ll be looking forward to reading the next one either way.
I really liked this story. I loved the beginning flashback, you fall for the characters right away. It makes you dread what's coming. Poor Kell is really put through hell by Krause. I can't bring myself to be sorry Krause died the say he did. I loved how there for him Ronin was. It does move a little too fast for me. Kell was traumatized and it seems like he gets over it because biology. Curious about the next book.
Seen is a great follow up to Saved and it nicely segues from that first book. We learned about the trial at the end of the first story, so the two books flow nicely together, bringing back all our favorite characters and introducing us to Ronin. There is a really nice romantic quality to this story, and a sweetness to it that is a bit different in tone to the first book. Kell has been through substantial trauma, and as much as he likes Ronin, it is really hard to fully trust him. Kell is used to constant abuse, to an alpha who sees him as nothing other than a womb to carry a child, and to sex being nothing but pain. In big and small ways, Ronin cares for Kell and shows him that not all relationships are like what he had with Krause. Ronin lets Kell take the lead on virtually everything, always making sure he is happy and comfortable. There is a really nice tenderness between them, on top of the sexual connection. Over the course of the book, we not only see Kell begin to make strides forward emotionally, but also see some of his internal strength really come back as he is able to stand up for what he wants and face down some of his demons.
Along with the relationship development, the story focuses largely on the preparations and the trial itself. The story has a courtroom drama feel as we learn about Ronin’s trial plans, see the witness testimony, and uncover evidence. I found this part interesting and I think it connects well with the bigger picture of omega rights that we started addressing in the first book. But I did find that there is a lot of legal stuff here that I wasn’t really expecting and sometimes the story felt a bit slow compared to the first book. But I did enjoy seeing the court case bring the two books together into a solid resolution and leaving both our couples in a good place.
Kell broke my heart. It’s that simple. His alpha, Krause, was an alphahole to the nth degree. Kell’s medical records show the proof to Ronin - years of broken bones, contusions, and the scar tissue remaining, which will prevent him from ever having another child, is grotesque. The fact that an inanimate sliver of an object used for house cleaning was found inside Kell the day Krause was murdered should have weighed heavily in Kell’s favor. Unfortunately, in this world an alpha “disciplining” his omega is perfectly fine as long as they’re mated. The only child Kell will ever have, Branson, Krause adopted out without Kell’s knowledge ten days after his birth because Branson was “only” a beta. Personally, I would’ve killed Krause myself.
To have an alpha in his life who didn’t take without asking, who didn’t bully or demand. Who didn’t do everything in his power to make Kell miserable and small.
The jury trial was equal parts exciting and loathsome. Exciting to watch Ronin work his magic and loathsome to see poor Kell on the stand having to recount all the horror he’d been subjected to. Ronin was kicking ass and taking names, and my heart rejoiced at it, not just for Kell but for the future of omega rights in general. Unfortunately, Krause’s father can’t allow Kell to testify, so Ronin and Kell have to constantly watch out for their safety. The more things that happen, the more Kell blames himself causing difficulties in his bond with Ronin.
Reading this book wasn't easy, and writing up a review for it has obviously taken me quite some time, considering I read this in September of last year. I'm still not sure that I can adequately describe how I spent most of my time reading this book in a state of constant anger and helpless tears at what had been done to Kell, Braun's older brother, at the hands of his alphahole husband and his father-in-law.
There are moments in this book when Kell experiences trauma beyond anyone's worst nightmares, and I wanted to reach into the book multiple times and kill the alphaholes myself. Any book that can create such a visceral reaction is well deserving of the 5 stars it receives.
I'm not going to give away too much in my review - this book should be experienced without too much information before going in - but I will say that I believe it worth your time, and your potential rage at the inequality between alphas and omegas in this male-only A/B/O universe, and the social repercussions that stem from said inequality.
The author rather cleverly creates a comparison between the world she's built in this series, and our own reality, where the patriarchy still rules in many countries and women (omegas) are but afterthoughts or simply vessels to bear children, expected to be grateful for the scraps they're given, without any chance at real equality at any time in their lives.
This isn't an easy series, nor is this an easy book to read - but read it, you should.
** I received a free copy of this book from its author in exchange for an honest review. **
Seen (Breaking Free #2) by A.M. Arthur 4.5 stars M/M Omega Story, Romance Triggers: Sexual, Physical and Emotional Abuse, Murder, Attempted Murder, Gang Rape I was given this book for an honest review by Wicked Reads.
This is the second story in this series and it is powerful, heartbreaking, anger inducing and in the end, redeeming.
You start with seeing Kell as a young Omega. He knows that his father doesn't think much of him, but he wants to try and protect his brother as best as he can. On his birthday, he decides that he will get a treat and runs in to Ronin, an older Alpha.
Ronin, for his part is not really a part of Kell's story until he is called in by Tarek, his old college friend. But, when Ronin comes back in to Kell's life, he does so with a purpose and he is fighting not only for Kell's life but for his own happiness.
This is a story about being beaten down, without being broken. Arthur was able to weave a tale of desperation, solitude and then redemption and love. While the subject was hard to read about, it was a story that was told in a very organic manner and I loved how everyone interacted.
I hope there are more in this series, as I have enjoyed them a lot.
Unfortunately, this book did nothing for me. I found myself skimming through a lot of it because there was so much filler. I never connected to either MC because I never felt the connection. I was told about the connection, but never felt it.
This was heart-wrenching, but beautiful. Tough and dark and difficult, but at the same time brimming with love and hope, found-family and romance. I've wanted to read Kell's story since the first time he appeared in Braun's story, and "Seen" doesn't disappoint. I won't spoil, but the things he goes through, the trail and all the repercussions of Krause's (well-deserved, it-should-have-hurt-more) death, made me so angry, and also so damn proud of him and his resilience. By the end I was pretty much ready to whisk Kell away with Ronin myself, to keep them both safe. (TW: rape and repeated threats, domestic abuse, emotional and physical abuse)
Kell was a fantastic protagonist: like Braun before him, he's both vulnerable and scarred, but he also has a snarky, tough side that I was very happy to see. And I adored Ronin too: he's protective and alpha-like in some instances, but the way he managed to keep Kell safe and cared for, without stifling him or taking away his choices, how open-minded and respectful he was... it was truly lovely to witness. Their romance was so sweet and brimming with hope, despite Kell's horrific trauma and past colouring the whole story.
All in all, I was very satisfied with this book! I'm very curious to continue this series, but I might give myself some time to recover from this emotional rollercoaster of a book.
I was anticipating this book after reading book one of this series, and it did not disappoint. This book covers immediately after book one where Kell is in jailed and we first meet Ronin as his lawyer.
Even though the entire book is basically them preparing for and Kell being on trial, it was such a great story. It was heartbreaking and moving, and it was beautiful at the end.
The character development of Kell was incredible. It was nice to see him come out of his shell and get that sass that we saw in his brother.
I was originally going to five this book 4 stars, but I just had to give it 5. There are a few minor mistakes here and there but I was truly HOOKED while reading this. I could not put it down. I am excited to keep reading this series!
Wow, I didn't know that I could be more horrified than book 1. However, this took things to another level. In book 1, we meet Kell and find out that his alpha is cruel and sadistic. Then he's found dead and Kell is the main suspect. Now Kell is in jail and soon to be on trial as a dangerous alpha-killing omega. Ronin is brought in to defend him. Kell and Ronin knew each other from childhood, and though Kell did not know it, Ronin was drawn to him then. Even now, Ronin wants only what is best for Kell, so he travels hundreds of miles to defend him and to look after him.
This is an amazing read but really should have trigger warnings. There is rape and abuse depicted pretty vividly. While it is discussed after the fact it's still described.
There is problems with timeline again and some problems with repatition but not enough to really pull me out of the story.
A really good editing could fix some problems and turn this into an awesome story. I will be moving on to the next book in the series.
I loved how both of these stories just flow together. I also am really enjoying the omegaverse stories lately!
My heart breaks for Kell. After everything he has been through his whole life. First with an abusive father and then the monster he marries. His last three years have been a horrifying hell. Also a very hard read. Ronin seems to be a little too perfect but he is just what Kell needs. Can't wait for the next one.
I have been on a major MPreg/Omegaverse kick lately and this is a series that I have been slowly getting to. I love AM Arthur's storytelling and this is no exception. Kell's story is heartbreaking, yet hopeful. The whole thing enraged me, but I was completely lost in the story.
If you're okay with thinking a man that has endured years of physical and emotional abuse at the hands of his father, then 3 years of physical, emotional, sexual and psychological abuse at the hands of his husband, AND had his baby taken away from him BUT still manages to pretty much overcome all that trauma within days of meeting his Alpha, then this is the book for you.
Read this because I read book one and I am a sucker for series. Not much story here either. A lot of emotion with not much substance. Definitely cured from reading book three. Very different from other books by this author.
First and foremost, before anything else, I MUST stress, if you have any kind of triggers related to abuse, sodomy, rape, beatings, etc. Please take care in this book. Things get graphic in this one for a reason. It's a court trial and the bastard is a sadistic asshole as well as his father. Things come to light during the course of the trial that show premeditated acts. If you can't stomach it, please take care of yourself first. If you can stomach it, then damn, this was one hell of a book. I started crying from the first page and didn't stop until it was over. Whether tears of empathy of pain, or of rage, of sadness or of happiness, Kell had my heart fluttering emotionally through this book. Also this book is not a standalone. You NEED to read book one.
Kell. Gah, Kell. From the time his Omegin died, life has just sucked. His father beats him all the time. He tries to get to Braun too, but Kell does his best to protect him. On his 14th birthday, he decides to go buy himself a treat and one for Braun too. But two alphas come near him and he's scared. Ronin sees the alphas and scares them away. Ronin and Kell have been becoming friends. Ronin being four years older is noticing things, though, that Kell hasn't yet. Ronin has found his bondmate. He's not totally sure that's what it is but he's pretty positive. Kell notices there is a scent about Ronin that is causing his stomach to flutter and his body to pay attention, but doesn't understand what it is and blows it off. Kell doesn't think Ronin would ever pay attention to him that way anyway. On the way home from the store, Kell is attached by those to alphas, and Ronin comes running to save the day. Ronin promises to teach Kell some defensive moves, but before they can really get started, Ronin and his family move away. Kell didn't even get to say goodbye. Now 10 years later, Ronin is back and he's defending Kell in court. Kell doesn't want to hope though. He doesn't remember what happened, and his dead mate’s father is trying to kill him and his family. The smells are there again and Kell recognizes Ronin as his bondmate, but with all he's been through, he can't. He knows Ronin wouldn't be able to handle being with him when the truth of all the abuse came out. And Ronin wouldn't be able to handle Kell’s scars. Ronin has his work cut out for him. But he's determined to show his omega that he should be pampered and treated like a king. He even submits to Kell and does things to Kell that blow his mind. Bu nothing is ever done unless Kell says so. Through the trial things get bad. Videos are found and the people trying to make Kell look bad, get destroyed for what they did to Kell. But other events come up and Kell is forced to make a decision that is what needs to be done to save his family. It's hard but in the end it's worth it.
Sweet, sweet Kell. I'm starting to cry again with all that happened to this sweet soul. The more evidence that came up in the trial, the worse it got. People tried to blame it on Kell, but it backfired. And the true colors of his dead asshole mate, his father, his mate's father and their friends come to life. And it's horrid. It's vomit inducing. It's sick and sadistic. The abuse he had to suffer at these people's hands is unbelievable. And no one would stick up for him. Braun tried once and almost got raped for his part. And my heart breaks even further for this beautiful Kell, who feels so unlovable and unworthy. Who's heart is as big as the earth, but can't hold on to hope anymore. He is a shell now. But with help from his brother Braun and his mate Tarek, Dex and Serge, and Ronin, life starts getting breathed back in. Ronin is perfect. When Kell is skittish, Ronin gets low on his level to help. He doesn't touch unless asked, doesn't enter Kell's room unless asked. Doesn't do anything unless asked. He is completely patient and still, knowing Kell will have to come to him in his own time. No matter how much his alpha fights him on it. Ronin refuses to rush Kell. Instead, he submits himself to Kell at times. He pampers him any way he can. He cooks for him, helps in baths, massages him, snuggles him, caresses him, nothing sexual. But making his presence feel safe. Secure. He's everything Kell has ever needed and he plans on making up for lost time. I love these two. No matter what Kell has been through or is going through, Ronin is the rock, the alpha Kell needs. And even with all the abuse that is endured, it's a beautiful love story for a broken man who needs love in the worst way.
Go read this series. You will fall in love. Yes things are harsh and rough, but justice can prevail. Hope can endure. Love can transcend. And new lives can be reborn.
Omega Despair: Gaining Trust ... Sharing a Love Bond
Wow!! OMG! This was an incredibly book! I don't know if there are enough adjectives to describe how moving a reading experience this book turned out to be, but I'll try to give you some: Stupendous! Excellent! Exceptional! Extraordinary! Fabulous! Gut Wrenching! Emotional! Full of Surprises! a Must Read! So many Twists & Turns! Agonizing! Sickening! Maddening! Revealing! Moving! I could easily go on....
A. M. Arthur created a masterpiece of Omegaverse, MM Romance, Courtroom Drama Literature. If someone were to substitute Omega Rights for Women's Rights, the story would be equally as Shocking and Compelling as it would be Mainstreamed! A representation of the Oppression, Subjugation, and Unequal rights & treatment, and lack of privileges Women have endured for centuries.
But this book was about the horrible treatment inflicted on Omegas, condoned & encouraged by their society, a terrible legacy taught in schools & handed down to such children through no fault of their own that are born Onega. In China female babies used to be frequently were gotten rid of. The lucky ones were put in orphanages and made available for international adoption. Now there is testing to determine the sex of a fetus and many of those girls are no longer even born to families wealthy enough to make those choices.
So when people try to protest and say it is just fiction, I say no it is a metaphor of many societal norms past and present. Boys...Sons are still revered in most cultures. But as pointed out in this book without the Omegas there would not be a next generation. This author gave us a new word "Omegin", to describe the Bearers - the ones who give birth. But even giving birth is fraught with concerns & complications that medical professionals are often not trained to handle.
Setting that aside the manner in which pregnancy is achieved, during " heats" a term whose usage is associated with animals, is a stressful, painful period during which the Omega is at risk of at the very least dehydration and the worse sexual assault by Alphas so instinct & pheromone driven they really can't be held responsible for their actions. Is it no wonder that Omegas, have fairy tale dreams of "good" Alphas, kind of like Alpha Prince Charmings?
This second book in the Breaking Free series centers on the spectrum of Alphas from Prince Charmings all the way down the scale to Cruel, sadistic Monsters and many types in between. Omega Rights or the lack thereof is the other central theme. How the author combines all these elements and creates a compelling believable book that is a looking glass or a Dorian Gray portrait of the worse that people & situations can be. And what our better selves can actually do to make the rest of society a good & decent place to live and raise a family. Even if that family is comprised of all Omega sons.
I want to thank this author for such a poignant piece. Readers really need to begin with the First book in the series: SAVED. So much is laid out regarding the characters and situations, as well as the terrible treatment endured by Omegas. Ultimately this is considered a Mpreg novel and there are some beautiful moments depicted. But gird your loins for a tough at times to read tale. Yet make no mistake it is thoroughly worth your time for this lengthy work that is never boring.
I read this book using my Kindle Unlimited subscription, but I will be purchasing it as well as the first and lucky for me a Third book in the series that was recently released. I'm so glad I waited until all three books were available. I don't have to imagine the crazy anticipation of an author's next book. I've experienced it more times than I care to recall. I've read thousands of MM books and I truly say that this one is now one of my favorites.
I was shared my copy of this book, via Amazon friends and family thingie.
This is book two in the Breaking Free series and I would STRONGLY recommend you read book one, Saved, before this one. More than strongly, I think it's very necessary for you to get a proper picture of this world and the men in it.
And, I was totally blown away by that book. This one? Equally blown away, but this is a far more emotionally devastating and difficult read.
Kell is Braun's older brother, and after three years of horrific abuse, snaps. Already reeling from the loss of his newborn, Kell now faces a murder charge. Ronin knew Kell ten years before, but moved away before their mating bonds could fully develop. Coming to Kell's rescue, via a court room, brings him back into contact with his mate, damaged though he is.
I wasn't able to read this book in one sitting, but I wanted to. It's just far too heavy a book for a one sitting read, but it was so f*cking good!
the full extent of the abuse that Kell suffered at the hands of his husband, and indeed, his father in law, is bad, even for this world, and through a series of witnesses, the story becomes clear. Braun knew about the beatings, but he didn't know how bad it really was. Kell thinks everyone will look bad on him for what was done to him. But Ronin?? He SEES Kell, makes Kell SEE, that there are better ways to live than in fear.
I don't know if the author has experienced of spousal abuse, or if they did a huge amount of research for these book, but either way, the way this is played out, it could be happening in any given court room across the globe right now. Ronin is an outstanding lawyer, and he systematically destroys the prosecution witnesses, one by miserable one.
And he pulls a blinder! Won't say what he does, but oh! I cried! For Kell, and for Ronin at that point.
Actually, there were a lot of tears in this book. Some heart breaking sobs, but also, some tears of joy too.
Attitudes they are a-changing, but these things take time. Fortunately, I have 6 more books to read to see how that all plays out!
Again, trigger warning are rife here, and you should probably not read these books if you have abuse triggers. It's a HUGE part of this story.
I can't really say what I want to say about this book, without spoilers, and I don't do spoilers, so I'll leave you with this:
I read a lot and can usually read no matter what else is going on but not this time. Two weeks ago, Hurricane Irma was distracting enough that I just couldn't get lost in a book. After we returned home and found that everything was OK, I finally was able to settle down and read again. Seen was the first book I started and I couldn't put it down.
SPOILER WARNING: Seen contains spoilers for book 1, Saved, so if you haven't read it you might want to wait to read this review.
We met Kell in the first book in this series, Saved; he is Braun's brother. At the end of Saved, Kell is arrested for murdering his alpha mate. You could probably read Seen without reading Saved but you would miss a lot of the back-story so I strongly suggest reading it first – it's fantastic.
Braun and his alpha, Tarek hired a lawyer to represent Kell. Ronin was Tarek's roommate in college and Tarek trusts him. What they didn't know at that time is that Ronin and Kell knew each other when they were young. Years ago, Ronin befriended Kell and came to his rescue when other alphas tried to harm him. Kell was heartbroken when Ronin's family moved away with no notice.
Ronin has never mated in the years that he and Kell have been apart. He wants Kell for his mate but must focus on the trial and not let his personal feeling get in the way of defending his client.
Seen is a wonderful story that had my emotions all over the place. No one should have to endure the horrible treatment that Kell received at the hands of his mate – and there are no laws to protect omegas from being "disciplined," or even raped, by their mates.
Seen carries trigger warnings for physical, emotional, and sexual abuse – and they are appropriate. So, if any of those things are difficult for you, you might need to pass this one up. The author uses these things in an appropriate, non-gratuitous way and I believe they are important for the telling of Kell's story, but they can be somewhat graphic in detail.
Saved and Seen are now on my list of favorite books written by Ms. Arthur. I can't wait to see what she comes up with in the next story set in this world.
Here we go again. I love these books but I end up on an emotional rollercoaster, they make me so angry and sad one minute and then the next I'm laughing and sighing. I abhor how Omegas are treated in this ABO world and I want to scream at all the Alphas and even Betas when I read about them being abused or just treated as less than human.
This story is about Kell, (Braun's older brother), an Omega who suddenly finds himself being charged with murdering his sadistic Alpha husband after 3 years of deplorable physical, sexual, mental and emotional abuse. Unable to remember the night his husband/Alpha had his throat slashed, Kell doesn't know if he is really guilty or not. One thing is for sure though, it's a good thing Krause is dead.
Ronin refuses to give up hope that he will be able to keep Kell from going to prison. Alpha born and a lawyer he fights to prove that Kell is not a coldblooded murderer but the victim of a horrible crime. This case means everything to Ronin who knew Kell years ago and has never been able to forget the Omega who stole his heart.
I honestly loved Ronin. He was so different than the other Alphas we've seen in this and the previous book. He's even more sensitive than Tarek who I adored in Saved. He does everything he can to prove to Kell that he deserved a good life and I thought he was an incredibly loving, loyal and protective.
AM Arthur has done a great job with this story and the series. As with Saved, the writing was well done and the story flowed well. There were a few moments I felt that it dragged a little bit but, overall, I really enjoyed it.
I would definitely recommend Seen.

Visto - A.M.
Per me è ❤ ❤ ❤ ❤ ❤
