KNITTED SOCK PORN

Did you notice the socks? ;)

Includes hot masturbation scenes and lusty thoughts, but the MCs have no joint page time and do NOT get together in the story.

Sexy and fun, because, hello, it's Amy Lane, but a little rushed.

I would love to read Alejandro and Donnie's complete story, but it's not one of the Johnnies books.

I haven't read the series (Because. ANGST.), so I don't know if they make an appearance as secondary characters in any of the novels.

Donnie is watching Alejandro’s house for the weekend, and as he has a serious crush on him, he can’t help but wandering around Alejandro’s place. Lots of fantasizing and solo action take place, but I couldn’t find it as sexy and cute as I expected (based on the reviews here).

Not for me.

Super Sock Man by Amy Lane
Johnnies series #0.5 and Granby Knitting series #1.5 novella. M-M romance. Can be read as a stand-alone.
Donnie agrees to house sit for his sister, mostly because he has a crush on her roommate Alejandro. Donnie fantasizes about Alejandro and ends up falling asleep in his bed. When Alejandro comes home early and finds Donnie in his bed, he’s charmed by the young man.

First romance troupe, high, repeated heat and steam. A sexy little acceptance story.

Fun read and super duper steamy! Lots of self-release going on...from one horny teenage boy! It was pretty funny! I loved Donnie from Chase in Shadow, and had no idea that he and Alejandro had a book telling their story until Kris told me about this book. Not only do we see how these two get together, we get some insight into Chase's conflicted thoughts and feelings prior to his own book. Those little tidbits alone were worth reading about. Even though Chase was less than a stellar friend to Donnie at times, he says some really poignant and sweet stuff to him, when Donnie is contemplating his relationship with Alejandro and if he should take the next step. The whole sock discussion and Donnie's take on the "powers" that they hold was ADORABLE...just like him!

My only complaint...I wanted a little more in the end. Final thoughts...Amy Lane can do it all, and she does it so well!

Thanks for the heads up on this one Kris!

* I picked this book as a part of my Funny pick of the month reading challenge, the title did it this time.

1.75

“Oh God… Yandro… please… please… yes. Yes. Yes! Just. Like. That! Oh God. Keep going… stop, wait, keep going… more… geeeeaaawwdddd yes! More! Harder! Deeper! Oh my God. Oh my God. Oh God, Alejandro, keep fucking me pllleeeeeaaazzzze!”

I finally remembered when I read this author last - it was the Locker Room. Oh yes. I remember the writing style and how it absolutely didn't work for me.
Granted, these books are over a decade old and I'm guessing for that time they were probably good? But to me it sounds like a teenager writing it.

The story is a part of #Granby Knitting series, but the socks basically have no major role here.
If you expected some serious sock sniffing, like I did, forget it. It's just a nana sending a couple of socks over, the end.

🟣 Best friend's little brother
🟢 Age gap - 19/post college (about 24-25?)
🟠 Pining, first crush, losing virginity
🔵 Gay-awakening
🟡 Could be so hot and dirty, the cover sure looked promising
🌶️ Some smut, quite good; vers/t-->vers

This story was hardly readable. I had trouble getting through it. This author has a very different style of writing or storytelling and it's not really working for me.
The dialogues come across as stilted, unnatural, practiced for a school play almost. Basically all interactions are like that.

Alejandro is a gay dancer, a Latino from a wealthy family who's letting him stay in the USA because they don't approve of him being openly gay (at home) and he's got a best friend Chelle, who has a 16-year old brother Donnie, who gets his gay-awakening with Alejandro.

Donnie is experimenting a bit with his best friend and at 19 years old he finally gets to have sex with Alejandro.

Overall, it sounds like a simple story, yet it wasn't well developed, we get a lot of tidbits about Donnie and Alejandro's lives, yet not many come to conclusion. It seemed like Alejandro was quite focused on Donnie's youth too and everything about their potential relationship wasn't well told.

"He’d woken up and there had been a man there, and then he’d realized it wasn’t a man, it was Donnie, but he’d felt like a man, and…."

Huh? Then was he, a rabbit? He's 19 years old, so in Alejandro's mind it's not a man, that's how it sounded.

“Donnie, there’s… well, there’s a kit on the counter that’ll make tonight… well… pleasant. It will make it more pleasant, and… well. Okay.”
“I’m not buying it. You don’t want to boss me around any more than you wanted to be in charge of that last kiss.”
Alejandro blushed and looked away. “Just use it, okay? My God, you’re a brat!”

“Tell me a story where I get to top. I’m dyin’ to see what that’s like, okay?”
Alejandro sat up and laughed, wiping his eyes with the side of his hand. “I don’t usually do that,” he said huskily. “Maybe a little later for that, okay?”
Donnie was looking at him soberly. “Okay,” he said softly.

How their relationship starts? Where Alejandro doesn't do relationships and this would be Donnie's first, so just a few hook-ups, a few nights over and

“Then tell me a story where you tell my parents that we’re having a relationship. And my sister. And maybe tell your Nana too, and see what that gets you. Will she squeal to the rest of the fam? Is that gonna get you kicked out of Shangri-la here?”

Oh god, the storytelling is just awful. This was pretty much the whole book of this kind of writing and I really wonder who talks like that? Where? Where have you heard two people talk like that? This was terrible to read.

Forget the socks, they had absolutely no important role, I thought these two are going to be fucking with their socks on, having a great time, maybe exploring the shift of Donnie topping Alejandro more, sniffing their feet or whatever, but this was just uuugghhh, terrible!

If it were at least funny like oh, look at that, I'm naked in your room with your socks on using your dildo and here you are, back from your trip, then he jumps him, fucking him while sniffing his feet with socks on that nana sent - now that would be something! Less cringe dialogues and more fun and sex, not this.

When Donnie was sixteen years old, he helped his sister Michelle move in with her new roommate, Alejandro. Up till that time, all that really mattered to Donnie was baseball, hanging out with his friends, and playing video games. But when he was around Yandro, whose dark Latin looks and dancer’s body were so very different from his own blonde jock build, something new began to stir.

As Donnie gets a little older, the feelings grow stronger and more powerful. He recognizes he is gay, and finally comes out to his family and friends. His friend Chase, another tall blonde jock, allows Donnie to experiment, but doesn’t reciprocate. But nothing touches the feelings and attraction he feels for Yandro.

Ah, Yandro. He is a bit of a man slut. Has a different man every week, never settling down with one man for too long. And when he gets too close to something resembling a commitment, he bails. His wake up call comes, however, when he gets hit upside the head with a guy who uses him like he uses other men. So he takes a break.

As the attraction between the two simmers, Donnie and Yandro keep each other at arm’s length. But one night, as Donnie house sits for Yandro and his sister, his curiosity gets the best of him. He ends up asleep on Yandro’s bed. What will happen when Yandro and Michelle show up two days early?

Amy Lane takes us back to meet two of the characters introduced in “Chase in Shadow”, and fills in some of the back story there. If you haven’t read that beautiful work yet, grab it immediately. But here we are allowed to see how Donnie and Yandro met and fell in love.

This is Ms. Lane at her best, writing about family and true love and men who are so strong and weak for each other. Men, who find their truest love. She writes her stories like Yandro’s grandmother knits those wonderful socks she sends him. Slowly, surely, row by row, link by link, adding a sudden splash of color in to the mix. Hitting us in the heart, with a sudden observation and truth. Then, the whole pattern shows up and we stand back in awe, our hearts touched.
Some of her truths hide in the mix, then shoot out and knock us off center.

Family:

“Donnie actually looked at her and rolled his eyes. ‘Do you have to make me feel five?’ Michelle’s look was only a little sad. ‘Honey, don’t you know that to me, you’ll always be five?’”

Love:

“…but…but I saw you growing up, and coming out, and I wanted you, but all I could think was, I don’t ever want him to stop looking at me like he first looked at me back when I first saw him, and he was so beautiful and young and…”

Heartbreaking vulnerability:

“I think God rewards people like you by not breaking their hearts, that’s what I think.”
I loved Chase in his story. And I fell so much more in love with him, seeing him through Donnie’s eyes. And I adore Donnie and Yandro.

So. Damned. Good. Read it. Love it.

3 sweet stars!

Amy Lane is one of my favorite m/m auhors and I have been looking forward to read this short written for the DritC event. It is the prequel to a longer series by Amy Lane and I have to say that this sweet short story got me interested in the characters. I will definitly take a look at the longer version of this story and at the other books in this series.

A sweet, fluffy and sexy prequel of sorts to Chase in Shadow about how Donny and Yandro got together.

We do get a few glimpses of Chase's struggle to come to terms with his best friend Donny's sexuality and Donny's fears for Chase's self-deception, but this story is really about Donny's coming out and getting together with the guy of his dreams, the manwhore Yandro. Donny is innocent and Yandro a bit jaded and fearing not just a relationship, but one with his roommate's younger brother. It turns out that maybe Donny isn't as naive as he seems and might just be the bit of color Yandro needs in his life.

That was so freaking cute I think I gotta go knit some socks! It's nice to have a pattern too!

I love Donnie so much. He's wise and innocent at the same time and so endearing. This was just cute all around. And hot as hell. There were so many ejaculations in this expanded version I lost count around 20%!

Okay, there's a lot going on here, so let's get a few things straight first. This was originally written offered for FREE from the Goodreads M/M Romance Group, Hot Summer Days event, and has since been expanded and is now sold. It is a prequel to Chase in Shadow, about one of the side characters (Chase's BFF Donnie), and I think it is fine to read before or after that book. It's also considered the second book in the Granby Knitting series that starts with The Winter Courtship Rituals of Fur-Bearing Critters, but seems unrelated except for having knitted socks (different characters, different state, etc) and I really wish they would stop calling it part of that series. It irks me.

Now, onto the book. It's a really sweet little story. The prompt pic had never done much for me when this originally came out, but I'm glad I finally got to it. Donny is a sweetheart and I enjoyed the friends-to-lovers as Donnie slowly worked his way into Alejandro's life. The sister was a great secondary character, and I liked Donnie's parents as characters, but I also appreciated that they didn't make an actual appearance. Short stories can feel overloaded with too many extra characters, having only the sis and Chase so that our guys weren't in a bubble was perfect. And Although I predicted it, the ending with the Grandma was sweet

The audio version was okay, but not my favorite narration for a few reasons. I liked how the narrator made teenage Donnie's voice crack, it was a great touch and emphasized his youth. Despite the fact that 19 is still technically a teenager, as a sophomore and college baseball player at University, Donnie is no longer a child and I did not like the continued, albeit sparse, use of this device. This was a love story between two men so I didn't like his voice cracking at this point. Similarly, I appreciated all the intonation and acting from the narrator, the first time Donnie got penetrated with the "fuck yes more wait harder damn stop yes FUCK ME!" was fabulous, but some of the groans and grunts were borderline comical. And while I liked Alejandro's accent, it drove me a little crazy that we only heard it when he talked out loud. Wouldn't his thoughts have an accent also? Especially when composing a letter? Small things, but like I said, good yet not a favorite in audio.

Definitely recommended to fans of the Johnnies series, although can be a stand alone. And just ignore that anyone ever said it was part of Granby Knitting. You can still get the original for free on Goodreads, but I don't know which bits were added on so I can't speak to that version.

Received audio version from the publisher in exchange for an honest review, reviewed for Hearts On Fire

Cute, adorable, super sweet, and with a message of joy and hope, this story captured my heart. It was interesting to see it build right in front of my eyes, starting small and gradually adding pieces until I saw the whole picture of who Donnie and Alejandro were to each other. There isn’t a lot of information about who they are outside their changing friendship, but it wasn’t important to me. Somehow that exclusive focus on each other was just right for this.

Donnie starts out with a crush on Alejandro, who is, at first, only his elder sister’s roommate. As he grows up, his adoration and yearning doesn’t change, and I loved it that one ‘mistake’ actually led to him starting to ask for everything. Fearless, full of hope and with lots of joy in his heart that he wants to share, Donnie is one of those guys you just have to love.

Alejandro is lost. He doesn’t even know it, and would never admit it, but he is drifting along without much direction. He has a career, he has enough money from his rich parents to survive, but his life is empty. Alejandro is tempted by Donnie once he wakes up to the fact that he is now a man, all grown up and ready to explore a relationship. I loved how he tried to resist (and we do, eventually, find out why) – but finds there is no way he can stop the force of nature that is Donnie.

I was wondering about the socks on the cover, and how knitting would make it into the story, and was not disappointed. If you’re looking for an all-round sweet, feel-good story, if you like reading about young men trying to find their way in life discovering it’s easier and more fun with someone special by your side, and if you (like me) want to find out what those socks have to do with it – give this story a try. I loved it, and think you will too.

*** 3 knitted socks stars ***

Cute story. It was funny when he posed in the mirror. *giggles*
I tried not to think too hard about how he (plot spoiler!) But it was hot and the ending was cute.

I did figure out that there are two versions of this story. A real short one (this one) for the MM Romance group on Goodreads and a longer (not-free) version which is a prequel to the Johnnie's series by Amy Lane. The MM Romance group's is 9 pages or so, and the longer version is about 100 pages (give or take).

I do in fact own the longer version, I may read it at some point.

I had no idea there was a prequel to the Johnnies series, so I read this after Chase in Shadow. I thought the title was super cheesy, but I love it now that I've read the story! Donnie was so young and sweet. And Yandro was such a great guy, trying to do right by him. Very much a light n fluffy read, which was just what I needed today.

Thank God Ms. Lane can write light too! If this was like Chase in Shadow I might die. XD

The only thing I didn't like was

But it was nice to read about Donnie & Yandro's backstory. :D

This is cute and sweet. I enjoyed the expansion of this story. Seeing Chase before the start of the Johnnie's series is hard to read knowing what's coming for him. But Donnie's love of Yando is just so sweet and true. I enjoyed the simplicity of this story and the growth Yando goes through.

Definitely a long time "friends to lover" story. Donnie is crushing on his sister's roommate big time and for a while. What I like about this book was that Alejandro didn't crush Donnie's feelings when Donnie was young and had an obvious crush on him. He just treated him like a family member of a friend. The vibe was so relaxed but when he had a chance to "go for it" he was gentle and considerate. I enjoyed how the entire friendship turned to lovers and found this quick read quite enjoyable. What I sm confused about is this book being titled is part of two different series by this author. I don't see the connection other than the fact that their is knitting in both series.

This was fine for a short story. I read it as the prelude to the Johnnies series but from what I was reading in the reviews, this doesn't really reflect that much on the series at all. It seems like the rest of the series is super angsty and this was not at all. It was kind of sweet but I am not sure what the point was but maybe I will later in the series?

This is a sweet and relatively angst-free story, with Amy Lane's trademark characters who work their way into your heart. Donnie is young and vibrant and remarkably self-assured. Yandro is a nice combination of world-weary and vulnerable. They seem like a bad fit at first, but through the story the way they fit together gradually becomes evident. By the end, the love between them is real and beautiful. This is a no-tears story from an author who is partially responsible for my large Kleenex budget, but there are a few glimpses of Chase in here and if you've read Chase in Shadow they add poignancy. (And now I may have to go read that one again.) I'll be keeping this on the shelf for when I need a nice sweet reminder of the ways love can work out.

OMG I loved this book! What a pleasant surprise. Finally I'm not disappointed by a listopia recommendation. I loved the dialogue in the novella. The sex was freaking hot!!! I liked how Chelle stood up for her brother. I loved Donnie and Yandro together.

I thought I recognize Chase so I went searching. I realized he's the same Chase from Chase in Shadow. I'm glad he was only briefly mentioned here because he was a douche bag here and in his own book LOL. I can't believe how much I loved this and how much I hated Chase in Shadow.

Another winner from Amy Lane. Interesting and lovable characters, great dialog and excellent humor. Donnie was adorable and for a 19-year old he carried himself with great confidence. Of course I loved Alejandro. He was so conflicted and well, horny. And it took finding Donnie in an awkward situation for him to see him as more than his roommate's little brother. Their connection felt real and their chemistry was off the charts.

I will continue to read the series since the first two titles have been so enjoyable.

Simply sweet and hot and sexy and full of sunshine. As only Amy Lane can do it. Donny and Alejandro fall towards each other so deliciously. You want to eat it with a spoon.

Oh… and Chase, from Chase in Shadow (the next book in the 'Johnnies' series), makes his appearance here as Donny’s (very confused) best friend. Here, we get all sorts hints as to just how messed up Chase is, and why.

Super Sock Man is My Superhero Now!

Donnie is such a great guy. He's all bright smiles, sunshine and laughter. I never felt as if he were anything other than a fully genuine guy. His hero-worship of Yandro was honestly sweet in a teenage-dude king of way. (There's only so "sweet" most teenage 'dudes' ever get, right?) I loved how his view of Yandro changed as he grew up since that's what it takes to make a relationship work. Both parties have to see each other as they really are rather than how they look to them up on a pedestal.

Yandro about broke my heart way too many times to be healthy. I loved his thoughts about color versus the starkness of his own wealthy lifestyle. His realization Donnie was no more a kid than he was himself was fantastic as it about blew his mind. All he'd ever wanted was a life filled up with color like the one Donnie had---except the only reason he thought Donnie's life was such a rainbow riot of color was because of Donnie himself.

Their start together was sweet and sexy and simply hilarious at times. I love Amy Lane's work for all the smiles I get out of it. I'd highly recommend this read to anyone looking for a sweet, steamy read to quickly pick their spirits up.

Audiobook review:
Performance – 5
Story – 4
Overall – 5

Good story, great audio performance.

So, this is my 4th Amy Lane audio novella in 2 days and I liked it but not as much as Turkey in the Snow. In all fairness, they are very different types of stories so I think I need to read more of the Johnnies series to see how I like it overall.

It’s a good story about a man who ends up falling for his female roommate’s younger brother. Said younger brother has had a crush on his sister’s roommate for a few years. When they finally get together the sparks fly and they have great sexy time.

This was a super quick listen and Sean Crisden did a great job with his performance; I always enjoy listening to him, especially when there are Hispanic accents involved.

I don’t know how Amy Lane does it. This book has A LOT of intimacy scenes, yet I could still classify it as sweet. I can also speak to the touching sentiments throughout. Donnie was adorable and exactly what Yandro needed.
