This short story follows two new mothers and their struggles between new and old traditions. Hilarity ensues as a slightly used MUB (Monster Under the Bed) helps their daughter in a rite of passage. Parenting will never be the same.

“MUB: Monster Under the Bed” is a delightful short (14 minutes) story featuring the love and parental concerns of a same-sex couple who finally are approved to adopt four year old Lizzie.
I don’t want to spoil the story describing the plot, but it is lots of fun. With fond memories of their own childhoods to bolster them, our new moms realize they really are going to enjoy being parents!
The audiobook is priced a bit high ($2.77 to members) for only 15 minutes, but I picked this up during the recent Audible sale offering an additional 30% off, so that brought it under $2. Still, that’s $8/hour. Authors don’t control pricing on Audible, and I think this is the lowest price for a book other than the now very infrequent (and much missed) $1.99 add-on price that used to be more common when buying a book on Kindle at the same time as buying the audiobook. “MUB” is one of the very few books that Erik makes available on KU; you can save a couple bucks, but the narrator is Hollie Jackson, which made it easy to choose between the KU book and the audiobook!!
4.5* for “MUB”. Rounded up because of the terrific cover!
This short is a fun read. My only complaint is it's too short. The "monster" is adorable. The characters are compelling, which is hard to do in such a short story.
Mr. Schubach's writing style has greatly improved over the years, which I am pleased to see. I have always enjoyed his books and his ability to tell a great story with compelling characters.
MUB is another feather in the cap for Mr. Schubach.
Plus, Frank the Platypus is mentioned and that's always cool.
This was a cute story. Very short but definitely worth the smiles it brought. I like shorts like this, they're fun and just the thing to give a break between longer ones.
