He was the sensible, level-headed shifter that everyone relied on to keep the peace and follow the rules, which he did, no matter what the cost to his personal happiness. When he met his fated mate, the one woman created just for him, Dane realized that there was nothing he wouldn't do, no rule he wouldn't break to make her his. The ruthless streak he'd kept hidden emerged with a vengeance.
Shana Nichols craved the kind of bond that mates shared.
She longed for a man who would always be faithful, love her forever and make her burn with desire. She got more than she dreamed of when a charming wolf shifter claimed she was his mate. He stole her heart with gentle patience and panty-melting passion, but she could not be the mate that he needed. After she rejected their union, she discovered that walking away from the mate bond was impossible.
Tonya Brooks is a teller of tales, a dreamer of dreams, and a weaver of words. Her steamy romances contain action, suspense, and humor with unexpected plot twists and turns. You never know what's going to happen next, hence her catchphrase, It's all smoke and mirrors till… The End.
Dane is the alpha's brother and has just divorced from his wife because she'd met her fated mate. Not that it matters because she didn't love him anyway...in fact, no woman has ever loved Dane. Suddenly, he meets his fated mate, Shana, in a bar. It's instant connection and the two spend the weekend together. Dane can't believe how lucky he is, but some problems indicate they need to get to know each other better. But when Dane comes back from a business trip, he finds Shana at the altar ready to marry her ex, with no explanation for him. Dane's sense of betrayal is so unbearable he kidnaps his mate, which forces a confrontation with his alpha.
The getting to know you part of this romance was really great, and takes up the majority of this story. The actual conflict, where Shana basically betrays Dane happens towards the end, so we don't get quite as much resolution as I think this conflict needed. Dane and Shana are really cute (Dane is just a teeny bit whiny and broody). They try to take things slowly and do build a bit of a friendship before jumping into bed together (that same night, but they did spend all day together). Dane is over the moon. Then, Shana finds out that and feeling that it's unfair to Dane and that he deserves better, she decides to go ahead and marry her gay ex.
Apparently Shana failed to understand the whole mate thing and the fact that Dane isn't ever moving on from her, even if she tries to be noble and set him free. He doesn't want that and, in fact, she's dooming him to a life of loneliness and misery with her actions...far better to deny . I don't know how this escaped her understanding, but it did. On top of that, she doesn't do the sensible thing and talk to him or anything...she simply goes ahead with the wedding without ever telling Dane. So Dane flips the fuck out. He kidnaps her and nearly kills his alpha brother because of her. Now, I'd think she might internalize some guilt, feel like some of this was her fault, apologize profusely or maybe have to deal with his anger. She doesn't really do any of these things. She admits that he's her mate and her reasons (at which he scoffs and says they don't really matter), then admits her love. And all is perfect in their world once again. This REALLY needed some discussion and conflict resolution and maybe some grovelling on our TSTL heroine's part...which is ironic given that the hero in the story before this did an incredible job grovelling. Sometimes heroines need to do it too.

This is a fast, hot, and satisfying little tidbit!
Initially, this felt a bit like an Alexa Riley read with no real substance. But then, holy heck! Things took a turn and I was suddenly holding onto my Kindle and completely engaged with this story and more importantly, these characters. Very pleasantly surprised at how this one worked out. I’ve got others on my TBR that I’ll definitely be moving up the list.
Usually 1 star means I hated the book. My 1 star here is because this book was such a hot mess. I don't know where all these high ratings are coming from. This book was a disaster!
This is the sequel to "The Big Bad Wolf's Ex" and is about Reese's brother Dane. I had a few doubts about Dane in the first book and I still wonder about him here. He has just gotten divorced after his wife found her mate and dumped him. Shana just caught her fiance cheating on her and they both meet while drowning their sorrows at a bar. They instantly know they are mates and we still have the whole book left.
And so the rest of the book is filled with OTT drama, contrived to create conflict, angst, and drag the book out. It seems like the author threw in everything she could to make this nasty stew. The final twist at the end came out of nowhere, made NO sense and was just skimmed over. And Dane, who is supposed to be this Ultimate Alpha comes across like a wimp who never asserts himself and lets his woman walk all over him.
Be sure and read the 1st book in the series first, even though it’s just a 2 book series. Lol you’ll be glad you did, certain parts will make more sense. Both books are very enjoyable, has just enough of everything you need in them. Definitely recommend for a fast and easy read.
After reading the first book about this hero’s brother The Big Bad Wolf's Ex I felt curious enough to read this.
So when the hero was forced to let his wife go because she’d found her fated mate, and the heroine’s man cheated these two meet and its great because she’s his fated mate, and I wondered what direction this would go. So the story then becomes a massive train wreck with loads of unnecessary OTT drama that the author apparently seems to love, going by the other book as that was the same, the trouble is the drama and angst is the sort that it’s very difficult to resolve IMO. That’s why I’m giving this a massive thumbs down.

Loved this book! I must say Iam a big fan of this author. I love that she always gives a twist to the stories. I loved #1, and was really intrigued about this one. I totally love him. He is really the guy everybody dreams about, a true gentleman. He made the biggest sacrifices, and kept himself as if he did nothing. Since chapter one, I wanted him to be happy! She was also good, but for me he "stole" the book! I strongly recommend this book! It is a must read....but before you do it go for #1 too!
I really enjoyed this book! I have been waiting for Dane story. I was not disappointed! Dane and Shana have a beautiful chemistry! I can't wait to read more on this series! I highly recommend this book and series!
I have been wanting to read Dane's story since the first book! Her Wolf in Shining Armor is a fast paced read that's a fun fabulous furry read!! And I absolutely loved, loved it! Tonya Brooks writes an angst filled love story that will leave you wanting more of the fabulous Lassiter brothers! I was blown away at the twist in the story, BAM!! I'm yelling WHAT!! NOOO! I didn't see that coming!
Dane is heartbeakingly sweet! Shana is the perfect compliment to Dane. Dane is just getting out of his marriage, looking forward to forgetting it. The eternal good guy! Shana is in the same predicament. Kismet!
I read my first book by Tonya Brooks in June of 2017, which was Reece's story (Dane's brother), and I still think about that book, and still feel all the emotions I felt when I read it. That book shattered me and I just didn't think it could happen again. Then I read this one, and it had the same power to make me feel every damn emotion that every single character was experiencing.
When I first began reading Dane and Shana's story, it hadn't clicked with me yet that this was Reece's brother, whom I so loved in the first book. That book is titled The Big Bad Wolf's Ex by the way, and if you haven't read that one yet, I would highly recommend you do before you read this one. Although they are both stand alone books, we are first introduced to Dane in Reece's book, you get a lot of background info on both brothers, and it is absolutely one of the best books I have ever read by any author!
Once it clicked with me who Dane was, I was a goner. I couldn't put the book down, and devoured it in one sitting. Although these books are novellas, Ms. Brooks has no problem wielding her magic pen to draw a reader in and just flat out make you FEEL. Her skill is remarkable, and I am in utter awe of her. I am a fan for life, and I can't wait to get my hands on other works of hers. I was very happy to see an epilogue with this book that encompassed both brothers and their families, as that was my one and only complaint about the first book. Please do yourself a favor and immediately get both books. You will not regret it!!!!
I really enjoyed this book. I devoured this book in one sitting and wasn’t once bored. I have been eager to read Dane’s story since he was introduced in his brother, Reece’s story. My heart ached for Dane. He didn’t realise how loved he was. After his horrific childhood and evil mother, he though that he was UN loveable. I liked the chemistry between Shana and Dane. I liked them as a couple and was rooting for them to get their happily ever after. I really liked Shana. I liked that even though she was angered at her ex, she remained friends. She even went as far as to help him keep his secret. I liked their friendship but I have to admit, I thought Laurence was selfish. All he thought about was himself, his mate and their secret. Even when he knew Shana had met her mate, he took her for granted. I was irritated with Shana. She knew how much Dane loved her and she even loved him yet she hurt him by going ahead with the wedding. My favourite part of this book was the ending and the epilogue. I liked that Dane finally realised how loved he was. I liked that Dane and Shana had lots of children/cubs. The storyline for this book is easy to follow and an enjoyable read.
The first was quick and angsty but it felt realistic and even though the shifter aspect was sort of not a huge part of the story it worked as a whole.
This, if felt like it needed to have more shifter lore, I don't know just be a longer book to make it all work. The h was a disappointment, I didn't hate her but she was like every cliched heroine. As an educated, professional woman she behaved immature. The h, could have been a whole lot more alpha instead of it coming out in the last part of the book.
It was ok, I didn't hate them but not a re-read or a keeper for me. It was entertaining.
I am a pain in the ass, and as a prolific reader and a pain in the ass I tend to hold authors to what may be an unreasonable standard. Or I thought I did, but maybe not. Because I read this story in record time and was enamored of it every step of the way. Kudos! The tears in my eyes ate still threatening.
He's a wolf that had it bad - divorced and looking he meets his mate in a bar. But relationship take time and understanding. Great new book in this series
We first met Dane in Reece’s story, The Big Bad Wolf’s Ex, and at that time he was a compelling secondary character that I hoped would get to tell his own story one day. That hay arrived with Her Wolf in Shining Armor.
I liked Dane and Shana together. They met when both were at their lowest in the love department, yet as most shifters, Dane knew immediately that Shana was his fated mate. Shana might be human, but she knew instant attraction when she felt it… and their connection was like nothing she’d ever experienced before.
Yes, there are several issues to be worked out between them. Most were easily taken care of if they had only “talked to each other”… but then we wouldn’t have gotten the emotional, sexy and heart-stopping romance that we did. They were a believable couple to me because, frankly, couples do these kind of things when they’re trying to protect the one they love “for their own good”… without asking. The drama was a bit stronger because wolf shifters are involved but I not only liked their romance but found it plausible as well (for the genre).
We get to met up with Reece and Jolie again to see where their lives are now, as well as Shana’s friend Cindy. I do wish that Cindy’s romance had its own book, for I would have liked to know this feisty loyal friend better. There are a couple twists and turns later in this story that put a different spin on the ending. Overall, I enjoyed my time in their world once again and would happily recommend both stories to any Paranormal Romance or Shifter Romance reader. I had fun with this one – and isn’t that the whole point?
I read this title through my Kindle Unlimited subscription.
Her Wolf In Shining Armor, Book 2 of the Mating Mayhem trilogy, was about Dane Lassiter, brother to Reece Lassiter of Book 1, and Shana "Shay" Nichols, a prosecuting attorney in the town's d.a.'s office. Side Note: Because of the spoilers at the end of this story, this should have been the THIRD book instead of the second. It spoils Book 3 before you can even read it. The book began with Dane leaving the office of his attorney after taking care of the paperwork that finalized his divorce from his (now ex) wife, who had left him because she had found her mate after years of being married to Dane. They had been friends, but never loved the other, nor were they each others' mate. So, after signing the papers, he went straight to a bar that was close by to drown his loneliness in expensive booze...and ran into Shana in the process. Shana was in the same bar as Dane, drowning HER sorrows of a broken engagement. Apparently, her (now former) fiance had been caught cheating on her, so she dissolved their relationship. When Shana and Dane finally noticed each other, they both knew immediately they had found the one they had been searching for. Shana's thoughts were focused on the fact she had found the man of her dreams, while Dane's inner wolf shouted, "MINE! MATE!". He just had to find a way to tell her. With both resolving they had found "the one", they ended up getting a motel room, spent the evening getting to know each other, then fell into bed together. It wasn't until the next morning that Dane finally told her that she was his fated mate, an announcement that she found both "a dream come true" and terrifying at the same time. After spending the entire weekend together, Shana told Dane she needed a week apart in order to clear her thoughts and try to get a handle on the idea of being his mate. While neither Dane nor his inner wolf were happy with her request, they could not deny it either. What they were most upset about was the fact she cut off ALL contact with them for five days. But neither of them expected Fate to step in and mess with their plans to meet up the evening of the fifth day. Shana had a prior commitment she could not get out of, and Dane was delayed meeting her because his brother had wrangled him into escorting Jolie (Dane's sister-in-law) to an art exhibit...which incidentally happened to be the exact same event that Shana was attending, and she saw him with Jolie and misinterpreted what she was seeing. She was thinking Dane had lied to her about being divorced, and she was thinking that Jolie was not only his wife but also expecting his baby...which was, in fact, going to be his niece or nephew instead. But they were both able to talk it through and calm the other down, each convinced they were meant for each other. Over the following seven days, Dane and Shana spent as much time together as they could, getting to know each other, sharing their hopes and dreams for the future (including how many children they each wanted), and introducing her to his pack as well as his brother. But then Dane had to go out of town for a few days since Reece wouldn't leave Jolie, who was getting closer to her delivery date. While he was gone, Shana got a call out of the blue that destroyed any hopes SHE had in regards to having a happy life with Dane. So she did the only thing she could think of to drive him away, never taking into consideration what that decision would do to a mated wolf who was to be rejected.
It would have been nice if the author had included a bit more background information on Shana, and perhaps even incorporated her family into the story as well. She was a really good character, with a depth that most FMCs lack. She was strong and had a backbone (for the most part), but the author needed to expand on her more than she did. Perhaps even focusing on Shana's job or even her friends (and former fiance) as well. She just didn't play a big enough part in the role she was given. She was so much more than a "sex kitten", which is what the author actually portrayed her as. She was there to be Dane's mate and nothing more. For a woman who was supposed to be a prosecuting attorney, Shana truly had no backbone. She was more wishy-washy than one would expect for a woman who held such a prominent position. Dane's character, on the other hand, showed a lot of growth from the first beginning. He started out a bit meek and mild, but he grew a pair by the end of the story...while still maintaining his sweet, loving side. He had a maturity a lot of MMCs lack in most romance novels. He wasn't cruel, petty, or vengeful. He was kind and caring, with a hidden spirit of steel that finally sees the light of day by the last chapter. I would have loved seeing that happen a little earlier, thus allowing him to become an even stronger pack member, as well as a stronger character. The angst of this story wasn't as high as it probably should have been, nor was the drama. The chemistry between Dane and Shana was mild as well; almost too mild. Other emotions included fear, anger, jealousy, resentment, and a touch of despair. But they were also weak. The author threw in a plot twist that actually came out of nowhere, but it was the pivotal point to the climax of the story, which was confusing. Why was it thrown in at the last minute, especially as the outcome of the entire book rested on one issue? There was no rhyme or reason for this. Everything hinged on that ONE phone call. But the question remains: WHY was she even expecting it? WHEN had Shana taken steps that would require her to wait around for that phone call? WHAT had forced her to take those steps? See what I mean? There were so many things that weren't addressed in such a short book. TOO much vital information was not included that should have been. Because of all the missing content, this story only earned a three-star rating. I will still include it in the Keeper for the Shelves collection, but only because it is a part of the "trilogy"...and I loved the first book. It's sad because this book had SO much potential to be a fantastic novel.
Dane is the best uncle. But he isn’t feeling so great. DIVORCE! His wife had found her fated mate and there was no changing that. He gave her the out and was even gracious to let her mate live. Fated mates were rare and Giselle wasn’t his. Shana was going to drown her sorrows. He lied and cheated, oh and did I mention he is now her ex-fiancée. Oh and to make it hurt even more, he left her for another man. Now how to you beat that. DRINK! When she started talking to Dane things started to pick up. Were either one of them willing to try again. YEP, because Shana happened to be Dane’s fated mate.
Dane is a sweetheart. He fought for his sister-in-law and nephew and help repair the relationship for his brother Reece. Now he just needed to find his fated mate. BOOM!!! I love that Dane is always gentle and sincere. Who wouldn’t melt for him? I mean come on, the man know the right words to say even during sex. Then of course you have Shana’s ex having issues of his own. I was almost wrung out with all the up and down of emotion. There was a surprising twist towards the end but so worth it. I love both the brothers with their big hearts.
It was a day to remember. That morning Shana walked in on her fiance cheating on her. Throwing back drinks at the bar seemed like a good way to numb the pain. His divorce finalized that morning, Dane Lassiter walked into a bar and met his mate. She didn't know that his brother Reece was the Supreme Alpha Wolf of the U. S. wolf pack. He didn't know that she was an Assistant District Attorney. They didn't know each other's last names. There was a whole lot that they didn't know about each other. They didn't know that was going to cause problems. It did.
This is a delicious book. I devoured it in one sitting and highly recommend it. I loved catching up with characters from the first book. The epilogue was great, too.
The whole story was just one enjoyable and pleasant read. This is Danes story, the nice brother from THE BIG BAD WOLFS EX. As I was not impressed with Reece in that book I wasn’t sure what to expect for Danes story. I have to say I loved it. Found Dane was a gentleman (which had shown in the other book). His treatment of his ex-wife was generous and his love and devotion to Shana was heart-warming and undeniable. Shana does act a little bit silly in her actions, not realising that Dane cannot move on now that he has found her. The ending and everything that happens was great and I loved how everything was resolved and ended.
This book is a tender story between Dane a Wolfe shifter recently divorced and Shana, human and recently single after finding her fiance in bed with another man. Both decided to drown their sorrows in a bar and Dane finally finds his mate. I truly fell in love with Dane. He is any woman's dream man and will do anything to keep her. The twist at the end was amazing. Give this book a try. You won't regret it. Highly recommend it
Tonya Brooks amazes me this book was absolutely full of love, compassion and partners trusting each other! I'm not normally a shifter reader but this book was written so well I almost expect to see men become wolves in my backyard! I recommend this to anyone looking to read a story that gives you fantasy fun and romance!
This book is a good short read. This is the second book in the series and I'm glad that we got to know what happened with Reece and Jolie as well as read about Dane and Shana.
This was my first time reading Tonya Brooks and I absolutely loved it. This book started out with two people drowning their sorrows at a local bar and bam one look into her eyes Dane knew he had found his true mate.
These two have everything going for them but when Dane finally faces his own insecurity it's almost to late. We get caught up with Reese & Jolie and Reese plays a big part in the outcome.
Shana thought she was doing what was best. Loved the story
Dana was beta wolf with wealth. He wanted love for himself not for his wealth. Shana want love just like the shifter loved their mates. Can they find each other or will they settle for someone else
I'm glad I took my friend recommendation to try this author. The story was a fast to love, but the story was well paced and the brothers were together til the end of the surprise ending. Well done.
