At Mother's Command 2 continues Max's story of being whisked away to her biological Mother's BDSM castle/resort. This time around, Max is essentially being held hostage and isn't allowed to leave. She meets Neil, a man that I personally don't trust but who knows, and begins to explore her sexuality a bit. Additionally, she demands the parents who raised her act like they were actually a couple which causes quite the stir. It seems the couple may actually explore these unearthed feelings for one another... despite both being involved with Sumera, Max's Mother.
There's more kink and sex in this book. Not only Sumera's sex life, but some infant and degrading kink as well. While those aren't my thing and I didn't enjoy it as much, it's definitely well written. Kay knows how to write her erotica really well! There will be readers who will eat this stuff up, pun intended.
I've very curious to see how the third book will go. I'd like to see Max develop and see what she decides. Will she accept her fate or escape from it all? The plot is just as good as the erotica in this series!

Meanwhile, Sumera is truly trying to do damage control with the bombshells she, Rocca and Stella have thrust on Max as she orders her subs to play the parts Max has demanded. Who is manipulating whom now? Their intentions are good, but nowhere near in the ballpark. And four souls are being tied into knots of confusion and pain.
AT MOTHER’S COMMAND – 2 by Kay Brandt focuses more on Max and the rebellion that will probably go supernova, as she becomes her own worst enemy in a world that is becoming a solitary prison. Sumera is grasping at straws, but her inability to let go and not be a puppet master is almost painful to watch, kind of like heading full steam into a dark tunnel and then seeing the oncoming lights in the distance. Her love, misguided or not, for her child has placed her in a submissive role that clearly is shaking the firm ground she thought she stood on.
Ms. Brandt has created total chaos in a world based on order and control and while separating one vein of storyline from the other, she has done a masterful job of placing the affairs of the heart in a different light than the affairs of the BDSM lifestyle. I feel like there are going to be some earth-shattering events ahead and these characters have only just begun to feel the tremors.

Story kept offering up different turns that the main characters took. So many things going on at once. Young innocent 18 year old learning and beginning to explore her sexual path. The twist for her is that her parents own and run this exclusive BDSM club. So she's exposed to several different kinks, that she then thinks about. Meanwhile her real mother is trying reconnect, after the daughter was raised by another woman. Added spice with a budding relationship between the girl's father and the woman that raised her.
Then there is the surprise Dom who is interested in this young woman. She is very tentative, not sure what she likes or really wants. Cannot wait to find out what her parents think about this relationship.
Sadly I found out late in the story that there is yet a third book in this series, which is not released yet.
It only took me so long to read because I read late in the evening, so I don't read too much.
I enjoyed this book much more than Book 1.
The kink scenes were very good. I love the way Kay describes them, and I felt like I was right there.
The character development is really great too. I enjoyed getting to know the characters on a deeper level. There is so much more to them in Book 2 than Book 1.
Looking forward to Book 3 and some other Kay Brandt stories

Actually enjoyed this one more than the first installment. There was more Max in this one, as well as her parents (all 3 of them), which is really where the heart of the story is, so that’s what drew me in and kept me there. I can appreciate the little windows we get into the other guests at the house, but they aren’t so many and so long that they deter from the harshness of Max’s reality and what she’s going through. Although, I must admit, the new layer to Rocco and Stella’s relationship, and where their story is going, was the best part for me in this story. I really feel like Rocco and Stella are starting to become their own fleshed out characters, with their own feelings and emotions. Not just robots that do what Sumera tells them.
This installment definitely made me even more excited to continue with the story.

At Mother's Command was one the most intriguing opening to a fetish-themed stories I have ever read, a dark twist on the fairy tale themes of adoption and secret legacies. It ended on something of a cliffhanger, hinging on an unexpected confrontation that opened the story to deeper emotional complexities.
With At Mother's Command 2, Kay Brandt moves the story forward in a surprising manner by softening Mistress Sumera and forcing a twist on Rocco and Stella's parental duties, even as she slowly introduces Max to the world of BDSM.
Even moreso than the first, this is a story of relationships, primarily kinky and erotic, but with an emphasis on the dramatic. A woman of absolute power and control, Mistress Sumera is forced to relinquish a little of that power to her headstrong daughter. At the same time, Rocco and Stella are forced to temporarily relinquish their submission as they are thrust into new roles with both mother and daughter. As for Max, the catalyst behind all these changes, she finds herself exploring a whole new world of relationships, guided by the stern but cautious hand of Neil.
Brandt does a wonderful job of opening up Max's world, introducing her to the realities of fetish and fantasy, and allowing her to navigate them with a virginal safety net in place. They are not quite baby steps, but her journey is carefully controlled, even as Neil hides nothing from her. Watching her develop into fetish, even as she tries so hard to restore a normal life that was really never more than a fairy tale, is rather exquisite.
Clearly, there is far more to Max's story still to be told, and I cannot wait to see what twists await us next.

Kay Brandt continues her story about Max, daughter of Sumera, raised by Rocco and Stella, a platonic couple who are both submissive to Sumera. This second installment starts out with teen angst, with Max keeping to her room, reacting strongly to the presentation made by Sumera, her mother, that Stella is not her birth mother and, though Rocco is her father, he is not married to the woman she always knew as her mother.
There are a number of issues about the storyline. Apparently, Maxina, an 18-year-old, has NEVER dated, never had a boyfriend, never been allowed to date, but the author wants us to just accept this as normal. Sumera and Max are both described as very attractive.
So, if she is so sheltered, why spring a complete BDSM lifestyle on her like this? I find this mind-boggling. The parents are so completely self-absorbed that they must not even see their daughter. But, now that she is at the estate, their focus on her is almost overwhelming.
Max decides she likes Neil, a dominant man who is spending time at the estate. Neil introduces her to a certain amount of sexuality, something her parents (or Rocco and Stella) never told her anything about (did she not reach puberty?). Sumera orders Rocco and Stella to follow the 18-year-old’s capricious wish, but, meanwhile nobody is watching Max or is aware of the goings-on with Neil.
The first book merited a four-star review from me. The copy editing on this one is better. This one deserves a three-star. There are some hot scenes, but it is a young adult novel grafted onto a novel that young adults ought not to ever read.
I took breaks from this book. It’s a slow read. If you read the first one and are just dying to find out what Max will do next, I suppose it’s worth a look, but it did not hold my interest and I cannot recommend it.

Fabulous Read!!
Kay did a great job with the second addition to the series. Very good character development, The story line is well done, I can't wait to see where the characters go in the future additions. Sumera Is heading on an unknown Journey that is very sexy, unseen and captivating with her unusual family she has created to try to fit into her Dom lifestyle. Maxi is exploring herself with the incredible Neil where will their relationship go, Loved the interaction of the two of them. I could see this play out into a great movie with some of my favorite performers playing the roles!!

This book is definitely better than the first one. There are fewer characters it seems and those that are there are much more fleshed out. Stella and Rocco are coming alive, Max is demanding to be heard but growing and learning herself. Sumara seems less one dimensional and much more real and (almost) relatable in this book. The additional time with each character definitely helps.
As to the sex, of course it's hot - Kay doesn't write sex that isn't hot!!! Max and Neil just touching themselves in front of each other was amazing. And Stella and Rocco with Sumara's guidance was just as hot.
I think the book definitely got stronger and excited to see part 3 - hopefully soon!
