What a strange gift to receive from my father-in-law. I was reading Ulysses when I got this book for Christmas, and I was surprised to see a picture of the General Slocum, which is mentioned in the novel. Ulysses takes place on June 16, 1904, and the day before, the General Slocum had caught fire and 1031 lives were lost.
